lie. PENDLETON — Native American kindergarten students in Pendleton schools out-performed statewide averages in early mathematics, early literacy and in selfregulation and interpersonal skills, according to test results recently released by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). "This is exciting for us," said Tr icia M ooney, Assistant Superintendent fo r Pendleton School District 16R. "It speaks highly of teachers at Pendleton schools, including those at Cay-Uma-Wa Head Start." Mooney said the improved scores are a testament to the relationship between the school district and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. "The partnership with the Tribes shows what we can do when we work together," she said. District 16R Superintendent Jon Peterson echoed Mooney's assessment.
