In the Spotlight Fashion show highlights Indigenous designers

MISSION — For the first time since its inception the Northwest Native Economic Summit hosted the Northwest Native Fashion Show. “I really wanted to make sure we showcased small business, and what better way to showcase small business than to have a fashion show with small business, Indigenous cre ativ es ,” s aid Jacob Wal lis , Nixyaawii Community Financial Services Business Services Manager. “We wanted to make sure that was our focal point and Northwest Native Fashion Show was born.” The Oct. 27th show, held at the Wildhorse Resort & Casino, featured 14 Indigenous clothing designers and 20 models from Indigenous c om mu n it i e s t h ro ug h o u t t h e Northwest. “ We a p p r e c i a t e a l l t h e collaboration w ith all small businesses, including hair and makeup, who had a focal point in what actually transpired (for the event), and our own photographers who made sure we had these looks documented. It’s historical at this point,” Wallis said. Key partners of the Northwest Native Fashion Show include Wallis; Casey Pearlman, ATNIEDC Business Development ser vices manager; Dave Tovey, NCFS Executive Director; Bill Tovey, Leona Enright, and Monica Paradise, of the Coyote Business Park; and Dani Wilgus with Hamley Clothing. “This collaboration as a Native community and a regional native community we set precedence tonight and I wanted to make sure SEE PHOTOS INSIDE - PAGE B10
