FEATURE STORY MARODY THE MAGIC MAN ryan Holt | bakersfield condors
Cooper Marody had a big night in Stockton on Wednesday. And on a specialty “Wizard” night in Condorstown, some might say, it was even magical.
“It was a big win for us and sometimes you need that puck luck,” – Marody said.
On Wednesday, Marody scored twice in the first period and once in the third to notch his third career AHL hat trick. His second goal was the stuff of wizardry as the puck popped straight up in the air, off the goaltender’s back and just crept over the line. It’ll be one that in 50 years he’ll say was a snipe under the cross bar. The trio of goals was his third hat trick in the month of March alone after having two last season against Ontario and San Jose. More special, the goals moved him into second, only behind Josh Currie on the Condors AHL goal-scoring list. With Seth Griffith already at the 20goal plateau and Marody nearing, the Condors should have at least two 20goal men for the first time since 2018WATCH EVERY GAME LIVE 19. Both will have a chance to break the THEAHL.COM/AHLTV Condors record of 29 goals set by Joe Gambardella that season.

FEATURE STORY PLAYOFF PICTURE The race for home-ice advantage will come down to the wire as Colorado, Bakersfield, and Abbotsford are vying to get a first round series on home ice. Bakersfield will see tonight’s opponent, Abbotsford, three times the rest of the season, including tonight. Bakersfield will be bolstered by the fact that 12 of their final 17 games will be on home ice, a place James Hamblin has grown to love and the Condors have fared well in this season. “It’s great when you see the support and have the home crowd behind you to feed off that energy,” he said.

Riley serves on the AHL’s Board of Governors, and various league committees. He was previously the vice chairman for the ECHL Board of Governors, and served on the league’s Executive Committee. He was instrumental in negotiations in the January 2014 purchase of the Condors by the Edmonton Oilers and the team’s elevation to the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2015-16. The Keokuk, Iowa, native previously served as the Executive Director of the Mobile (AL) BayBears Baseball Club, the classAA Southern League affiliate of the San Diego Padres, and was integral in the construction of Hank Aaron Stadium. Colby Cave Memorial Fund The Cave Family and the Edmonton Oilers have created the Colby Cave Memorial Fund to carry on the memory and legacy of Oilers forward Colby Cave who passed away suddenly and tragically on April 11, 2020. Proceeds from the fund will go toward community programs with an emphasis on mental health initiatives and providing access to sports for underprivileged children. Cave made a lasting impact both on and off the ice with the Edmonton Oilers and the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, and before that with the Boston Bruins organization and the WHL's Swift Current Broncos. Cave was a consummate professional, well-respected by teammates and opponents alike. He was also a committed and positive member of the communities in which he played, eagerly volunteering for charitable initiatives and always stopping to say hi to fans. Donations to the Colby Cave Memorial Fund are being accepted by the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation in Colby's memory. click to donate now
