FEATURE STORY CONDORS CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC TEDDY BEAR TOSS BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN BAKERSFIELD ryan Holt | bakersfield condors
The first Saturday after Thanksgiving has become as much of a holiday staple for many in Kern County as turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. This year the team, and more importantly, the city, celebrate 25 years of the Condors Teddy Bear Toss. Thousands will gather inside Mechanics Bank Arena for a glimpse at the spectacle after the Condors score their first goal, unleashing thousands of bears on to the ice.
What started as a novel idea in 1999 has grown into an annual must-see event filled with fun, smiles, and a great time. The bears are collected by and donated to the United Way, who has served as a longstanding partner of the team to disseminate the thousands of plush stuffed animals to those in need during the holiday season and year-round. The bears are used not only as gifts, but also in times of crisis for local police and fire departments, delivered to countless hospital rooms, and used to comfort those who may need a calming hug during a difficult time. Perhaps the best part of Teddy Bear Toss in Condorstown is the organic nature of what transpires.
FEATURE STORY None of the bears are pre bought by the organization, none are handed out, and everyone in attendance can be seen with bags full ready to chuck on the ice after the team’s first goal. It is the community’s way of coming together to support a great cause and have fun doing so.
flying in the quickest goal scored in Teddy Bear Toss history. Over 8,500 bears hit the ice, the second largest teddy bear toss in team history. All-time over 153,000 bears have been donated to those in need and over 185,000 people have seen the annual event in person. It’s a timeless tradition that brings together fans of all ages and keeps families coming back.
And let last year’s event serve as the ultimate reminder to not delay in getting inside. Just 29 seconds in a year ago, on the first shift of the game, Luke Esposito’s shot off the rush sent the bears

SCOTT HOWSON PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE
The AHL is as proud as ever of its role in developing nearly all of the players, coaches, executives, trainers, broadcasters and officials who you see throughout the National Hockey League today. Generations of our great fans have cheered on future superstars, Stanley Cup champions and Hockey Hall of Famers as they have come through the AHL. This season is sure to be another memorable one, from the excitement of opening night to the pageantry of the AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose to the thrills and emotion of the Calder Cup Playoffs. On behalf of all of our teams, thank you for your continuing support of the AHL. Sincerely,
Scott Howson President & CEO | American Hockey League
