RESUME
Guilherme Reis is a Brazilian Graduate of Architecture, from the University of New South Wales (Sydney). There, he took advantage of the opportunities presented over his degree and was lucky to visit a multitude of cities and, hence, develop his skills as a conscious designer. Now currently undertaking his master’s at the University of Newcastle, he seeks to apply his skills, gained throughout his professional and personal experiences in a practical setting, and refine them through the continuous opportunities that come with employment.

Hereon follows a selection of projects that Guilherme developed throughout his Bachelor. Ranging from domestic and international projects, in various scales and purposes.
PROJECTS
The selection aims to encompass the multitude of skills that he possess, while demonstrating a certain level of personality. His ethos, if you will.

SOFALA ART GALLERY
The facility was to house local art works from the small town of Sofala, NSW, and surrounding areas. To accommodate an artist and to provide them an working studio adjacent to the gallery.
8
The approach took was that of versatility in design plan, with pivoting walls. Its response to the site expresses in solar and light access, and also framing of views to all four directions.

GIARDINO DI PISA
This project was the result of a month long workshop lead by RICA.Studio (Madrid) which took place during the Venice Biennale 2018. The site of choice was the flooded gardens of Pisa, Italy.
16
17
The project aimed to save the once communal space, by designing a series of mechanical installations that responded to weather and functions, seeking to enable people to use in spite of the recurring floods.
18
19
To develop our ideas themes, a physical model of Pisa was built on a 1:500 scale (previous pages). Then, at the same scale, an axonometry of the garden was made with our proposed installations (to the right).

LA VIVIENDA
The project La Vivienda was developed with a focus on Building Information Modeling, using Revit, in a multidisciplinary course taken at UPV (Valencia). Shown are the exterior renders of the house in topic, produced with Revit and VRay Max, and post-treated with Adobe Photoshop.,

WE’REHOUSE
The requirement here was to explore the construction detailing of a two-story building incorporating Class 8 and Class 5 components. The building was a warehouse, design for multipurpose, in a slopped terrain, dimensions being 15 by 30m. The project consisted on producing detailed sectional drawings, in 1:20 and 1:5 scales, and one thoroughly detailed physical model, in 1:20 scale.

31
The model, depicted below and on the previous page, focused on a few key structural analysis, them being, respectively left to right:
1. Roofing system, in steel construction; 2. Flooring, in concrete construction; 3. Wall impermeability.

CASE STUDY #1142
In this project, done in my first year of Bachelor, the aim was to explore profoundly a building of individual choice and explore the architect’s creative process and design through annotated drawings, physical models and diagrams. The choice: Lina Bo Bardi’s Glass house. Enclosed by the Atlantic Forest, Lina built her home distant from society. A statement that architecture should keep a distance between individuals and the natural environment.
38
39
The analysis focused on its topographic location and orientation, reaffirming the passive design of her home. Design explorations also focused on circulation thought, such as the staircase represented below.
40
41
In a overwhelming world, visually polluted, Guilherme has recently developed a passion for photography.
PHOTOS
42
His focus lies on formal patterns and light and shadow play, exclusively explored in a monochromatic layout.
A personal reminder, and a public project, seeking to find beauty in the mundane, but also a manifesto to mindfulness observation. The following photos were taken with a Nikon B500 and edited with Adobe Lightroom.
43
The first series is a selection of what got him into [architectural] photography in the first place, which was the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, designed by Santiago Calatrava.
The background to this, and the following, series are some of my first photos focused on the human figure [in sculpture]. They were taken in Florence, Italy.
44
45
The second series is more recent, and of much humbler scale. Composed by a collection of trivial moments in everyday life’s sights in Newcastle, Australia.
46
47
The third, and final series, focus on humans in the reengagement with community activities in a (post-) pandemic life.
