The Installation Ceremony for
Alan Huehn
the Third Chancellor of Concordia University of Edmonton
ON THE TWENTY-FOURTH DAY OF OCTOBER TWO THOUSAND AND TWENTY-THREE SEVEN O’CLOCK P.M. CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY OF EDMONTON ROBERT TEGLER STUDENT CENTRE

The University The Chancellor, President, Board of Governors, faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Concordia University of Edmonton extend a warm welcome to all who join us as we install our third Chancellor, Alan Huehn. Located on territory of the Treaty No. 6 Nations and the homeland of the Métis Nation (Region IV), Concordia occupies land that was used for trading and gathering. Our campus is one of the original Métis river lots in Edmonton. Concordia is a university of action and passion, small enough that every student is essential but large enough to make real differences when we tackle global challenges. We are a students’ university. We rally around that central promise in everything we do and all that we build. We say to students: if you join us, you will belong. For more than a century, it has felt this way here. For more than 100 years, Concordia has played an important role in Alberta’s educational history. In 1987, Concordia began to award degrees in the arts and sciences.
Today, we offer more than 50 undergraduate majors, concentrations and minors, 4 master’s degree programs, and 1 doctorate degree program, in addition to several afterdegree programs, graduate and undergraduate certificates and diplomas, and continuing education programs. In and out of our classrooms and lecture halls, we translate what we learn into extraordinary hands-on experiences. Because of our size, our closeness and connection, we blend and mix in surprising – sometimes delightful – ways. If we’re scientists, we can follow our curiosity into drama. A business student can graduate with a foundation in history, philosophy, and Indigenous knowledge. We can test our ideas with people from every department and course of study, from around the world. We can change directions and find our path. We can be our best selves. Our ultimate goal has not changed since 1921: to be more than students and professors, to create a community of active citizens, of good and honourable people.

Thanks to his unquenchable optimism and cheerful demeanour, he is a sought-after speaker and supporter in his field. He has served on a variety of industry and private corporate boards, including a member of the Modern Miracle Network, the former Chair of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC), and as a Chair of the STARS and Spurs annual PSAC fundraiser. Mr. Huehn’s community spirit has also been recognized with the awarding of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Alberta Centennial Medal.
