“Wen Xin Cup” Chinese Writing Contest Concordian International School held its 8th Wen Xin Cup

Chinese Writing Contest on Monday April 4th, 2022. The contest aimed to showcase our students’ creativity and critical thinking through Chinese writing as well as to engage students in fun and inspiring Chinese learning.

Pim (G6): I wrote my writing from my heart and everything was true, it made me appreciate my mom even more and felt that she was really important. Chinese writing is very important because it will help us in the future! I am very happy to be the winner of the first year's writing competition in the MYP because I never thought I would win and I also feel proud of myself for winning.

Next year, I will also try my best to win the Chinese writing contest again!

Paris (G6): When I won first place I felt very happy, I also felt very accomplished about it. This is because it was my first time winning first place in this Chinese Writing Contest. I felt that I did really well and put a lot of effort into my piece, but I didn’t expect to be able to win first place in my whole class. I also felt really happy when I was in the email that told who won the Wen Xin Cup Contest. I felt happy that my picture was in there.

Rita (G6): I felt really happy and proud of myself when I found out that I got 2nd place. I tried my best and put all my effort into it. I wrote about what I learned about the unit we were learning, which was about nature, the environment, the animals, human impact on the environment, and what we can do to help. It was an easy topic for me to write about since I was very interested in it so that motivated me to write well.

Otto (G8): After many years of participating in this writing competition, this years’ is definitely one that will be unforgettable; filled with excitement and determination through all phases and students. Through this competition, I was able to regain confidence in my Chinese writing skills that were previously lost, or confidence that was never even there to begin with. When my name was called to the front of the class, I was shocked and felt proud to see my large improvement. I have to admit that this competition was difficult and rough as Chinese was neither my strong point, nor my mother tongue. However, one significant Meena (G7): I really appreciate my Chinese teachers’ guidance lesson was learned: never give up. Even if you feel down, or are and encouragement! When I was first notified that I received at your lowest point you should never give up. this award, I felt excited because I used to struggle with writing.

However, through Chinese learning, I found that writing is not as difficult as I thought it was before; it is just a way of sharing experiences I made in my life and organizing them into bits and pieces for each paragraph. I chose to write “the most memorable trip” because I went to England last summer. I was particularly fond of the academic and artistic atmosphere of Cambridge and London. I decided to write about what I’ve seen and heard in the trip for myself. This experience now inspires me to be more confident in writing.

Maya (G7): I would like to express deep gratitude for the support my teachers lent me. Thank you, Ms. Limin, for having faith in me, your encouragement proved successful with the result of this year's award which I received. I really did not expect to receive an award for the Chinese Writing Contest, specifically the “Extraordinary Award”, which I am very proud of. This award means a lot to me and I feel very honored and glad that I received this award because it will inspire me to work harder in the future and study more.

Pim (G7): I would like to thank all of the Chinese teachers that had taught me for the past 10 years, without them, it is impossible for me to get this award. I have participated in Chinese writting contests 4 times, each year the writting topics are really broad, we can choose what we would like to write about. This year I decided to write about "family is the most important", for the reason that I grew up in a wonderful family and I can apply the values that we learned from Chinese class to my writing. I will continue improving my Chinese.

Grand (G8): My family and I were so elated when I received an award from the Chinese writing competition. I did not expect that I would receive the award since my classmates are all so talented and have very unique topics that they have written. This competition was a good opportunity to express my thoughts and opinions while using the Chinese language. Even though there were some mistakes and areas that I did in the competition, I will continue to improve my Chinese language skills and become a better student.

Matmee (G10): I am very honored to receive this award, especially because this is the last year I can participate in the Chinese writing competition. The reason I decided to write a letter to myself 20 years from now is because I am currently at the stage where I have to start considering my future, what I am going to learn in university, and what I am going to do when I grow up.

Receiving this award for writing a story that portrays my feelings means a lot to me. I also want to thank my Chinese teacher for all the support and guidance she gave me. Thank you again for this award.

Tasha (G9): Entering this competition has allowed me to gain more experience in writing Chinese, improve my writing techniques, and develop my ideas along with my thinking skills. During the competition, I enjoyed the brainstorming process, as it allowed me to think creatively in a short amount of time. All in all, I think that this writing competition has really helped me improve my Chinese writing skills, and I am grateful that I was able to gain experience from this!

Alyssa (G9): I am extremely honored to be given this award, as it was unexpected of me. This writing contest has inspired me to strive and continue to grow my knowledge of Chinese. Even though I am still a beginner and I have much to learn coming, all the teachers in the Chinese department have been encouraging me to learn and try my best in every criterion! I look forward to all my future Chinese classes and more Chinese-based contest in the future.

Annie (G10): The Contest is quite memorable for me since I have participated in it every year. Thinking that this is the last time to attend it, I feel very thankful for this special honor. Actually, it is the first time I wrote a poem in this contest, I chose the theme “I really want to…” and thought about the things that would relate to me the most. I immediately got the idea of birds expressing their desire for a home due to the current events of pollution, global warming, or war. Overall, I want to thank my Chinese teacher for her guidance and correction. I really appreciate all the efforts from her and the Chinese Department, Thank you so much.
