Design is a versatile discipline that shapes objects, systems,

and experiences with purpose. It plays a crucial role in forming our surroundings, enhancing functionality, and facilitating effective communication. Design combines problem-solving, aesthetics, and user-centric thinking while considering cultural and environmental factors.

The Concordian Design Department has been busy this year developing the 'Design Dragons' of the future. At Concordian, we offer instruction in various design subjects, including product design, AR content, coding, and web design.

This year, we hosted a fantastic exhibition that fills our students with pride. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who took the time to visit our exhibition, and we eagerly anticipate seeing you again next year!

Congratulations to Raiwin (Hui Hui) Sae Zhang, Grade 12 student

who was accepted into Northwestern University, US, this year. As she joined the Thai classical music activity since she was in G3 until now, she had an opportunity to do many things such as performing in Thai Events, music competitions, a personal project and also creating the club with her friends to help others which was very meaningful. Not only that, she inspires the younger generation to be good musicians and try to achieve their dreams as she has done.

Here are some feelings and experiences that Hui Hui would like to share with us: “Beautiful polished wooden pieces with such vibrant echoes; feeling the rhythm of the melodies pulsating through my veins. What a journey it has been.

As I reflect upon my incredible and long (16 years!) journey at Concordian, one thing remains constant in my life—my love for Thai music.

The earliest memories that I treasure most are my involvement in various school events. From Loy Krathong to Songkran, I have had the privilege to showcase my appreciation for Thai music to my peers, teachers, and parents.

Throughout the years, I have also had the opportunity to participate in numerous national competitions. They not only challenged my skills but also allowed me to connect with like-minded youths who share the same passion for Thai music.

One of the highlights of my musical journey is representing my heritage on international stages. From performing at the AsiaPacific Economic Cooperation conference to the World Education Forum, I witnessed how music transcends cultural barriers and brings people together.

As I progressed in my musical journey, I was inspired to give back to the community that brought me to where I am today. With the support of my teachers, parents, and peers, I embarked on a service project, donating musical instruments and teaching music to underprivileged students. This experience has instilled in me a sense of responsibility to continue sharing my knowledge with those who may not have easy access to it.

As I prepare to embark on a new chapter at university in the US, I am determined to continue my musical journey, honoring the traditions of Thai music abroad.

All this would not have been possible without the help of the Concordian community, so I would like to end by thanking Kru A, my family, my friends, and all of you for your unwavering support.”

Music Contest 2023 Congratulations to our three representative students, Rika (G8), Don (G5) and Dol (G5) who participated and won amazing awards in the Thai music competition for Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at Burapha University on April 8-9, 2023.

Mookmada (Rika) Phurkwattanagul earned the silver medal for the Khim in the Middle school category. Don Decharin and Dol Decharin earned the Gold Medal for the Ranad-Ek in the Primary school category.

The success was a result of their hard work and diligent training. Let’s enjoy the experiences that they all would like to share with us: I am very proud of myself for receiving the silver medal for the khim competition even though I have only been practicing this song for 2 weeks. I feel like all the practice paid off because I thought I would get a bronze medal, because there were so many talented seniors in the competition. Going to this competition really enhanced my skills on this instrument and made me more comfortable on stage by myself. Thank you Kru A for giving me this opportunity to compete!

Last month my brother and I competed in a Ranad competition, Mor

Burapa and we achieved the gold medal award. This competition has taught me a lot of things but first I would like to thank Kru A for supporting me in this competition. Every time I compete it always helps me to improve myself. This competition taught me to be a risk taker - even though this wasn’t my first time playing in front of audiences, I was still pretty nervous. But I overcame it and continued. It has also improved my responsibility to practice everyday and improve my skill of managing time.

Recently, I joined a Ranad competition called “Mor Burapa”. I enjoyed my time there and I also learned a lot of things. For example, I was open-minded in hearing the responses of my teachers when I made mistakes and also used the IB learner profile “Reflective”, after the competition, I reflected on what I did wrong and how I could have done better. I would like to thank everyone who helped me throughout this journey and especially Kru A for teaching me. Without her, this wouldn’t have been possible.

Career Day 2023

The annual Career Day event took place on April 22, 2023, and

was organized by Concordian’s Career and College Counseling department. Each year we bring together professionals in the larger community of Thailand to share their knowledge and expertise to our students in Grades 9 to 12. This supports our students by providing in-depth knowledge on specific careers as well as an insight on future job opportunities. It allows them to make connections between what they are learning in school and the world of work. It also encourages students to set goals and develop a plan of action for their future while inspiring them by making them aware of the unlimited potential ahead of them. We highly value these kinds of events and send our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the professionals who took the time to share their experience and knowledge with our students.

Chinese Speech Contest On March 14 and 15, 2023, the Chinese department

successfully held the Chinese Speech Contest! A total of 33 students registered for the competition, and after the audition, 16 contestants stood on the stage for the final competition.

This year, the theme of the speech contest was "Culture, Empathy, Dream" (文化，同理心，梦想). Through their impressive speeches, the students not only showed their Chinese language skill but also expressed their understanding and appreciation of culture, further highlighting their confidence!

We look forward to having more students take the stage and join in the speech contest next year!

The spring choir performance at Concordian was a joyous celebration of music and song. The students put on exciting performances and showcased their growth of musical skill on the stage. In addition, the Con Brio (“with passion and vigor”) Choir gave their stunning inaugural performance!

The students worked tirelessly to practice and perfect the music as well as all the logistics and details of the concert. It takes a coordinated effort by the community, staff, administration and students to produce such an exciting musical concert experience and the Concordian choirs want to thank everyone who attended and provided their support.

Our final song, “Sisi Ni Moja'', was chosen to exemplify one of Concordian’s greatest strengths - “We are one”. As the song states, “We all bruise, we all scar, we all fail but learn to thrive!”

We hope you enjoyed sharing in this message of unity and togetherness that Concordian so beautifully embodies.

I am always honored to bring these voices together and build confidence and excellence in song. The excitement, joy and love for music at Concordian is thriving! Personal Project Ling

The Personal Project Exhibition was held on March 16, 2023,

where the Class of 2025 students put their work on display after a year-long inquiry into their personal interests. This year we were very excited to be back in person for the first completely face-to-face Personal Project cycle since the pandemic.

The Exhibition was our biggest to date! All students got to showcase their work in innovative ways, including: live musical performances on stage, movie screenings in a cozy theater, a selection of snack and drink tastings, video game trials, and many other interactive booths. We would like to thank Khun Thida, IT, maintenance, and all the related departments for helping the students’ work to be shown authentically.

Each booth was personalized to the students’ interests and experience in the Personal Project, which boasted a vast array of products and topics. From Hug Machines to soccer cleats to sugar-free candy to building a PC, each student showed a clear passion and deep investment in their personal interest this year.

As the first externally moderated IB task students submit before they head to the Diploma Program, this is a very important milestone for each student to achieve. We thank our excellent team of internal moderators who work diligently to mark the reports ahead of the IB deadline. We are eagerly waiting for the final IB marks, which will be released later this year, but we are confident that all of our students grew, learned, and developed new skills throughout this meaningful journey.

G12 IB Art Tourner dans le vide During the first week of April, the senior students presented

their bodies of work in an event which is not only one of the IB exams but also an important landmark in the lives of student artists. They chose the title of this exhibition from a song (Indila, 2014) to aptly describe this exhibition as a celebration of the beauty and complexity of the human experience, as captured in the fragments and moments that make up our lives. The works explore the multiple possibilities of existence and the human experience of being suspended in the vast and infinite expanse of the void.

The variety of perspectives on this theme are ranging from the contemplative to the playful, from the introspective to the hyperreal. The student artists have used a range of media, including painting, sculpture, digital art and photography to explore the emotions and experiences that shape our lives. This year we also had the wonderful opportunity to be accompanied by performances from Kyla as well as the Con Brio choir ensemble. The

students, together with Mr. Mark, were excited to perform and provide further expansionand introspection on the human experience through song.

Also this year, the contagious motivation of all HS Art students conveyed through the Art club, the Culture club, the impressive improvement of the G10s and the enthusiasm of the G9s. The clubs took this opportunity to present some of the works achieved this year and highlight the works of the seniors: the Art club with a welcoming installation and the Language and Culture club with calligraphies reflecting on the seniors' exhibitions.

As communicators but also risk takers, the G9 and G10 students selected their most achieved works, not only demonstrating their creativity and thinking skills but also their reflection skills.

All the students were proud to have this unique occasion to display collectively their creativity,imagination, emotions and concepts.

Their works invite the viewer to contemplate the human condition and find inspiration in the artists’ explorations of this timeless and universal theme.

Throughout their first year in the MYP service learning program,

the Grade 6 students have demonstrated great effort in creating impactful service projects for communities in need. They have shown passion for their chosen causes and have collaborated and managed themselves effectively to achieve their goals. As a result, they have gained confidence and knowledge about the true meaning of service learning. It is with pride that we acknowledge the students' dedication and initiative towards helping those in need. We are excited to see how they will continue to grow as service learning leaders and make a positive impact on the world.

Garbage Masters

Hello! We are Mungbean, Ren, Hakao, Pipo, Butter, and Kan -

the Garbage Masters service group! Our group went to help the government pick up trash at Ta Lhad Hua Ta Khe and through indirect service we donated recyclables like used plastic bottles to Wat Chakdaeng. The people at Wat Chakdaeng will then recycle what we donated to them. We achieved our goals of helping the environment and people in need. Additionally, we even gained a lot of knowledge during this project. We hope people can help pick up and recycle trash such as used plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, etc. to save the environment and to make it better.

The specific community targeted in our project is Wat Chakdaeng. Wat Chakdaeng is a temple that accepts used plastic objects to recycle by turning the plastic fibers into fabric.

It was our main targeted community because a lot of our work in this service project was to collect trash and to give it to them.

The knowledge that we gained was that many people could help pick up trash, and that we could make the environment a lot better and cleaner from just picking up trash. Our service project focused on the UN SDG “Life on Land” since we picked up trash which would help clean up many animals’ habitats and everyone would also have a good environment to live in.

- the Food 4 All service team! On this service project, we did indirect service. Our project was to collaborate with the Food For All club and set up a booth at the Zanook Fest. We raised a total amount of 9,000 baht and the money will be donated to the organization มูลนิธิร่วมกตุญญู to help people without food resources. We chose this project because we wanted to help those people in need. Our SDG is Zero Hunger and this connects to our service project because we wanted to raise awareness and money to donate to มูลนิธิร่วมกตุญญู. We learned many things along the way, such as by working together we can accomplish anything because it takes more than one person to do a service project. This project means a lot to our team because knowing we get to help the people in need and donate money to them is really great.

G7 Service Program

As the 2022-23 school year draws to a close, G7 students are now reflecting on the impact of their service work in the past months.

With the relaxation of covid related restrictions, this year's G7 cohort were fortunate to have some of their first direct service experiences since entering the MYP. Students had the chance to dive deeper into their enquiries by identifying the authentic needs of their targeted community and assessing how they could take action to meaningfully contribute to those needs. In small groups, students collaborated to execute a diversity of projects, including collecting trash to recycle, planting mangrove trees to alleviate flooding, creating educational supplies for students in need, and tutoring elementary students, to name a few. Despite the obstacles, the G7 students persevered to complete service projects that would have a lasting impact on both themselves and others.

According to many reports, more than 100,000 children do not have access to books for education. This service project’s initiative supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Giving access to notebooks to children who are in need of them can bring peace to society. It allows the children to trust and care about their education. In this project, we used the ATL skills of research, communication, and social skills. We researched a problem that is affecting the world and learned more about the organization that is related to our SDG. We then contacted the organization and learned about the quality of education in Thailand. Finally, we went to meet the organization and made numerous books with many other people. From this service project, we learned about various elements of life, such as how to use recycled paper and make it into something that can promote learning opportunities for all children. Even though the books we made weren’t much, small actions and gestures can make a huge impact on someone’s life.

We all participated in our service project to clean under-

neath the Kanchanaphisek Road highway. We picked up the trash underneath the road and put it all in trash bags, then we placed them into a recycling bin. Our service project specifically targeted the village called Chayapuk/Chayapek and the targeted SDGs are Climate Action, Life on Land, Life Below Water. This is because we are helping the animals by cleaning the trash, saving their habitats, and restricting the animals from eating trash and dying. We all felt that cleaning this will not really impact the world, so this showed us how much the world really needs our help.

Grade 8 Service Program

As another school year draws to a close, it is a good opportunity

for us to pause and reflect on all that was accomplished along the way. Our Grade 8 students have been hard at work on their service projects, which will be concluding near the end of June.

We restructured the program this year to include two smaller projects, rather than one large one. The focus was placed on “active service” which means the students go out into their chosen communities to participate in various service activities and document their work along the way. For each project, students worked with a new group in order to help them learn how to work with different people. This helped to create a wide range of projects which could meet many needs throughout various communities. Students are now in the final stages of their projects and will soon be showcasing their work for all to see. Congratulations on all of your hard work, Grade 8 Students! Our service project for this semester revolves closely around an Mr. Aaron issue within the Concordian community: food waste. This project G8 Service Lead addresses the food waste produced by the school community by turning it into compost that will be used for growing plants vegetation. We collect buckets full of food scraps daily Our project is about fundraising to help children in orphanages and and put them into a mixture of dry leaves and water, which will have a better quality of life and improving their mental health ater be used to fertilize plants. A lesson that comes with this is by donating living essentials as well as some masks and hand understanding the value of sustainable practices. Not only is it sanitizers and new toys. Even though we worked on it for only beneficial to the environment, but also teaches resourcefulness around 3 months, our team made a very decent start, had good rather than wastefulness. results and worked very efficiently with time. This helped support our ability to work under a short amount of time, making sure that everyone had a fair amount of work and lessened our stress and pressure during tight times. We were able to successfully get past innumerable obstacles, such as in-person meeting restrictions, time restrictions as well as other formalities that were a waste of time, but nevertheless required to be met for our project to be successful. All in all, our project is on a pretty satisfactory and timely track, and we would like to express deep thanks to everyone for supporting us substantially, especially Diya (G7) who was our amazing volunteer/sales assistant. For those who have invested their time and supported us, don’t worry, you will get to see our good results after the project is wrapped up and completed; and to the team: Don’t forget, we still have to wrap this up!

Grade 9 Service Program

Hoop for Hearts - Mlabri House Build

After a number of years of being unable to experience a fully Hoop for Hearts is a G9 Service Project that is devoted to fostering immersive year-long Independent Service Project, Grade 9 took the helm, blazing a trail of extraordinary achievements. With unwavering determination, they embarked on a transformative path, undergoing multiple cycles of inquiry before settling on their final projects. Along the way, they encountered setbacks that forced them to reconsider their plans and, in some cases, start entirely anew. Witnessing students reflect on these failures and exhibit adaptability and perseverance was nothing short of inspiring. Even those who didn't achieve their anticipated impact garnered invaluable lessons in planning, prioritization, and time management, skills that will undoubtedly bolster their future success. The culmination of their year-long efforts will be showcased at the Service Learning Exhibition on June 22, where students eagerly anticipate sharing their profound experiences this year. While a few outstanding tasks, including the notable Hoop for Hearts house build trip to the Nan province, lie ahead, Henry and Ken were kind enough to provide an update on their group's extraordinary journey so far to give you a small sample of what this cohort have accomplished this year.

Above all, "Hoop for Hearts" aspires to inspire the Concordian community and show that, with hard work, time, and effort, you can achieve anything. Embracing that challenge and working towards the goals will create a strong foundation and a lasting change.

Through several Campaigns "Hoop for Hearts' has raised a total of 150,000+ Baht, that will be going to the house build, crop planting, renewable energy, everyday life necessities, seeds, etc. The money was raised from our Zanook Festival booth on April 5th, and the Hoop for Hearts Tournament on May 6th. We sold 2 colored pouch bags, 2 colored duffle bags, and wristbands, all of which were designed from our personal passions and desires to improve lives. Through this project we have learned valuable life skills such as leadership skills, intercultural understanding, empathy, compassion, and hard work that will forever stick with us throughout our life. Let's shape a better future for the Mlabri community and, in particular, this family of 5.

In 2022-23 the G10 SA projects initiated by the students focused

on Research and Innovation and/or Advocacy and Awareness. Research and Innovation projects enabled students to combine critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, to foster long-term sustainable change. Advocacy and Awareness projects enabled students to utilize various platforms, such as social media campaigns, or creating informative resources, to shed light on topics such as environmental sustainability, gender equality, or mental health awareness. By spreading knowledge and inspiring others to take action, students can contribute to long-term systemic change.

High School World Scholar’s Cup

The World Scholars Cup club is happy to be back with a bang

for the 2023-24 season. Our numbers have tripled from around 10 people to over 30. Concordian students recently participated in the Bangkok Regional rounds hosted at Bangkok Patana. As a club, we were able to attain many medals and trophies. All Concordian teams managed to qualify for the Globals, which will be occuring during the summer and early next academic year. Congrats to G6: Budh, Leo, Term, Kan, Keit, G7: Airi, Kenta, Rita, Kirin, Nina, Inging, Kenjung, G8: Libang, Yuro, Mark, Imboon, Candy and G9: Henry, Otto, Praew!

The club is looking forward to sending multiple delegations to the Global Rounds; particularly as the WSC Globals are once again returning to Bangkok at the Aksra Theater in late August and early September. In the Global Rounds, students will get the opportunity to interact with peers from all over the world, as well as test their rigorous preparation over the previous summer.

Additionally, participants have the opportunity to qualify for the Tournament of Champions hosted annually at Yale University.

Miki and I had a fun time at last year's Globals, so we are excited to be introducing the event to a new generation of scholars.

The club is looking to provide additional support, in terms of a Summer training program, where members will train for the upcoming Global Rounds. As a club, we are ready to prepare members for the remainder of this season, but also look forward to introducing WSC to a new cohort of students next school year.

We believe that with our plans for more structured preparation and support, there is much to be excited about for the WSC club.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity (H4H) is an internationally-recognised

organization devoted to funding and helping to construct buildings for those in need. The H4H club of Concordian International School aims to assist the organization, to which we have contributed yearly both financially and in terms of physical laboring. Over the course of this academic year, we’ve raised and donated 90,000THB and we’ve organized 3 site buildings, an activity in which club members participate in the construction itself. The builds consisted of house painting, where we funded and helped paint the exterior and interior of a house for a large family residing in Pathum Thani; and the last two builds were buildings of a latrine for Sagad 80 School, and an underfunded and developed school in Chachoengsao, consisting of laying the floors and walls, along with digging a hole for the septic tank.

As for raising money, we have participated in many food sale events, along with merchandise sales. The club members would submit their designs for the club merchandise, then a poll would be created to select the final design. By doing so, the members are able to actively participate in the club’s activities aside from the site buildings. Club members recount their experience at Chachoengsao site:

“The site-building was an eye-opener for me, but even more so were the fundraising events. Each year we organized many fundraising events, which we club members are encouraged to participate in. In that sense, I helped our club sell drinks and snacks during the football competition, which was really hectic and quite fruitful. Aside from these events, we also voted on the club t-shirt design and sold 5 shirts myself. Moving aside to the actual build, I found it to be extremely worth my time despite the physical exertion. In this experience, I learnt the hardship of construction, and the reality of how physically demanding these construction projects are. I hope that through my contribution to the club, I, along with my fellow members, are able to help make a difference, no matter how small, in the local community. ”

Model United Nations (MUN)

The MUN club has been an absolutely wild ride this year, starting

with hosting and running Concordian’s first CISMUN, to attending several conferences hosted by other international schools around Bangkok, to college level conferences. A particularly good experience for me was THAIMUN, because I was able to meet delegates from all over the world (America, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, etc.), and it felt a little surreal to discuss national topics in a room filled with actual people from all over the world. I am extremely proud of all our new and old delegates for Middle School Student Government showing so much spirit and enthusiasm in attending conferences this year, and am extremely grateful for all the friendships formed (MSSG) within the vast MUN community.

House competitions are small events where everyone gets a chance to play some sports against other teams in their grade to earn points. This year, the first house competition was dodgeball, then Kahoot, then Capture the Flag, and for the last quarter, the seventh grade had dodgeball again, while the sixth and eighth grade plan on playing handball. Many students enjoy competing in house competitions and we hope to expand their variety next year.

In addition to events, we submitted a policy to propose opening the Vive Cafe downstairs for students during break time due to the snack lines being very long. However, as it was a busy school year, we were not able to complete the other proposals that were originally planned.

Being part of the MSSG can be a fulfilling experience that allows you to make a positive impact in your school community.

Hosting events, such as the rose sale on Valentine's Day and the school house competitions, can be exciting and challenging but ultimately rewarding, as they bring students together and promote a sense of unity and belonging. It's important to approach these events with creativity and continuously strive to create a welcoming and supportive school environment for all.

We hope that future MSSG members will have the same love that we share for the MSSG.

Assemblies are held every Wednesday afternoon for this school year. Each assembly includes athletic notices for each week and bookmark presentations every other week. I have been in the student council and student government since

grade 6, and – except for grade 9 – I have spent every single year of my secondary school with these amazing people. After putting in a lot of my own time to plan numerous events and resolve countless suggestions by the student body, I still do not regret any of the time spent here. Although everyone has their own lives to live, the fact that everyone surrounding me, especially all the officers, is putting in their best effort motivates me to try to work just as hard. Even Ms. Marijoy was spending every minute of every day reading our messages on Google Chat; who can possibly slack off when you’re surrounded by the most determined people? I am really grateful for my experience with these amazing, talented people.

As for my juniors, I would like to leave a couple of messages.

If you ever find yourself asking yourself if joining the HSSG is worth the time, I’d say go for it. Not only will you feel good about helping out your community, but you will also get to build new friendships with people you might never have approached if not for HSSG. Having a network of friends you can count on is never a bad idea. Also, as for those who might not be interested in joining the HSSG, it’s also alright. I understand that you want to spend your time doing things you would enjoy more doing.

However, some of your peers are giving up their precious youth to make your community a better place, so please support them in any way you can. If you ever have any ideas, a simple suggestion will go a long way to helping them achieve their goals. I hope everyone will enjoy their last few years of secondary school.

There were concerns as to whether the HSSG would be able to carry out their responsibilities smoothly with the resumption of activities in person. However, their exemplary performance since then has put all doubts to rest. The members have proven to, and have only further burgeoned in the past years in their endeavor to keep the school community positive and engaged.

Valentine’s Day

This year, HSSG raised funds for a charitable cause which is a significant milestone for the organisation, and thanks to our very supportive administrators, Mr. Bill and Mr. Laurent, and to all the teachers who volunteered to be dunked, we raised enough to send necessary supplies to the Baan Dek Foundation for communities in need up in Chiangmai. This year is also a great collaboration of work with Mr. Mike Daly, the MSSG advisor.

I had the privilege of working with most of them as one of the MSSG advisors during 2018-2020. It should come as no surprise that even back then, they have displayed dedication to the student community by voicing students' concerns to allow backpacks, organising the first MSSG Sports Day in June, and requesting to have a "Little Corner Shop" to accommodate G6-G8 students. Their batch was also the first one to run the Khaojao, Grade 12 Student Representative MSSG Valentine's Day Gifts Sales.

The HSSG's preparation for Valentine's day is undoubtedly

the most anticipated event by the student body. High school students eagerly look forward to Valentine's events as they provide an opportunity to express and celebrate their feelings of love, friendship, and affection towards their peers. The main event of this year's celebration was the distribution of gifts--red and white roses, chocolates, and adorable teddy bears, all of which were available to students via anonymous envelopes. The HSSG thoroughly organized all of the gifts, but the most exciting part was creating the flower bouquets. We carefully made each bouquet, hoping to bring a smile to the face of the recipient upon delivery.

Another captivating theme, 'Guess Who', offered an opportunity for students to don creative disguises and challenge their peers to recognize them beneath clever costumes. The week's joyous ambiance united us all in the spirit of camaraderie and amusement.

Concordians Taking Action - Crisis Relief Fund

In the wake of the devastating 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earth-

quakes that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023, and claimed the lives of over 46,000 people, two groups the Grace and Grand group and the Tsheyang, Lodrel, Jinnie, Pearl, JJ, Man, and Mon group - joined forces to maximize the impact of their efforts to raise funds for crisis relief by showing kindness and compassion. The donations collected by the groups were delivered directly to Her Excellency Mrs. Serap Ersoy, Ambassador of Turkey to Thailand, and will go to provide support for the countless left without shelter and basic necessities.

The EY Songkran Ceremony in this school year was the first time for nearly all of the students as we didn’t have this event for about 3 years.

K3 representative students were outstanding while presenting the significance of Songkran. The students learned about Thai culture through this meaningful ceremony. After that they all had a great time with Songkran water play. Everyone was excited and had a fantastic time!!!

The Legend of Siam Songkran in the Secondary school

After 3 years of Covid restrictions, we have finally been able to resume our

regular Songkran celebrations at school. To celebrate a return to semi-normalcy, the Thai Department put together an elegant performance celebrating the many beautiful and diverse aspects of Thai Culture. From the graceful beauty of the Nang Songkran procession to the powerful and controlled strength of the Muay Thai demonstration, we got to experience the width and depth of our culture through performances which represented each region of Thailand.

Students also received blessings from their teachers, this was also a good opportunity for students in Grade 12 to receive their final blessing from their teachers before their exams and graduation. After the performance, we got to enjoy the booths set up by the students, for example, stalls making traditional Thai amenities or booths serving foods like “Fried Pork with sticky rice” or “ข้าวเหนียวหมูทอด” and “Thai Herb refreshing drink” or “นำ�้ สมุนไพร”. Overall, this year’s Songkran celebration is one of our best yet, with great performances and student-led activities.

Dear Concordians, This year the English department organised and ran the second edition of the Speak! Competition, a public speaking event aimed at showcasing our students' oratory skills. All the candidates underwent an audition process and were vetted by a panel of 5 judges. Then they spent over 2 weeks editing, refining, honing, polishing and, finally, perfecting their speeches.

They attended individual practice sessions and even participated in the English Public Speaking CMA after school-- all in an effort to provide our community with their best possible performance. And what a performance that was! The speakers regaled us with authentic and heart-felt speeches, with emotional performances, and with our fair share of both anticipation and trepidation.

Talent Show

The 2023 Secondary School Talent Show was a great success this year! As one of the hosts of the talent show I felt that the performances were outstanding and that they deserved every bit of credit they could receive. Moreover, props to the HSSG for planning such a great event.

I know that many of the performers must have been extremely anxious on that day (including me), however I feel that everyone worked together extremely well and managed to produce quite a show for the student body. The performances were extremely diverse, ranging from traditional instruments to outstanding vocal performances.

Working and coordinating with my fellow co-hosts also was a pleasure to be a part of and that we shared many fun moments throughout. I am extremely proud to be part of the talent show as it has provided a plethora of new experiences for me, like how it’s fine to be nervous and excited for a performance but the fact that you are courageous enough to be there makes all the difference.

From first hand experience, I know that it must be terrifying to be up on that stage and perform something in front of the entire school, and I feel that that is something I will never really get over. Fear is a natural part of that experience but don’t let that hold you back, it will be a shame if you give up on your dreams just because of it.

I know that there are lots more talents in the student body that are just waiting for a chance to shine and I believe that the talent show is indeed that stage for you! So do not be afraid to sign up next year, because believe it or not, it is going to be a blast.

I would like to thank Ms. Marijoy and the officers for really helping set up the show this year, and trying really hard to help coordinate the shows. I would also like to thank all the performers who performed on the talent show, without them the show would not have been possible. Also, let’s not forget the teacher's performances! Zanook

The Zanook school concert is a vibrant, exhilarating event

that draws over 500 attendees each year. It stands out as a fun-filled celebration, characterized by a light-hearted, joyous atmosphere that encompasses both performers and audience alike. While each performance is very well rehearsed, Zanook's essence lies not in serious competition but in providing a platform for students and bands to showcase their talents in a stress-free, enjoyable environment.

Zanook was held on April 4, 2023,, timed close to the vibrant Songkran holiday and attendees embraced the holiday spirit, arriving in colorful, floral shirts that added to the festival's visual appeal.

Driven by the passionate student committee - Good, Tin, Minnie, PingPing, and Kanoon - the organization of Zanook is a meticulous, collaborative process. Regular meetings with the school administrators ensure that the festival runs smoothly and remains an anticipated, highlight event of the school year.

Service groups and clubs ran booths selling refreshing drinks and delicious food. Combined, the groups were able to raise over 170,000 baht for various charitable causes.

Zanook's unique charm is amplified by the 'Dunk Tank' event which was handled by the HSSG - an exciting spectacle where students get the rare opportunity to dunk their administrators. Over 80,000 baht was raised and donated to Baan Dek Foundation. The crowd's laughter and cheers during this segment encapsulated the festival's spirit - one of camaraderie, amusement, and shared enjoyment.

Zanook isn't just a school concert; it's a jubilant celebration of Concordian student talent, community bonding, and shared joy. It represents the very heartbeat of the school year, making it not just an event to attend, but an experience to cherish.
