NOTE Dear Impact Readers,

Here we are at the closing of another academic year, one that has

certainly challenged us and brought out unexpected reserves of strength and resilience in us all.

You will notice that this issue of Impact is quite voluminous - simply bursting with content - a hopeful indication that we are returning to normal and that school life, and all the wonderful events and opportunities that come with it, is getting back on track for our community.

A most heartwarming event took place recently as we were able to celebrate the graduating Class of 2022 in the Valedictory Ceremony on May 28th. The graduation provided a dignified celebration of achievement, perseverance and personal growth, and a fitting send off for our alumni.

The Secondary school provides us with plentiful and interesting updates on the learning that has taken place inside and outside of the classroom in the past few months. We are also privileged to see the incredible art produced by our IB Art students and to glean a deeper insight into the thought process of the artists through their own words. And we find out about an exciting new event in the Concordian calendar - Speak! The English Public Speaking Showcase.

We thank the wonderful Concordian families who once again have shared their feedback about the school and salute the accomplished alumni featured in this issue who are making a difference in the world in their own ways.

Of course, the end of the academic year inevitably means having to say good-bye to some departing faculty members. We would like to thank our departing teachers, teaching assistants and staff for their valuable contributions to our community and wish them all the best in their future endeavors wherever in the world they might take them!

Founding Director

Dear Concordians, In the past years, we have been witnessing so many conflicts around the world as well as the continuation of the biggest pandemic of the century.

Living through this difficult time of changes, tragedies and conflicts, we can view them as troubles and headaches or we can learn from them and prepare ourselves for what might come. In every crisis, there is always an opportunity for us to be a part of solving the problem or to act with compassion. Change is inevitable in this world and we hope to be a part of the positive changes in this ever-evolving world. You all must question: In this seemingly chaotic and unsettled world, what can we do to make a positive difference? Well, even if we can’t change the bad to good, we can definitely do more good to better the world and to help people.

Don’t wait for anyone to come and change the world for you, you just have to make sure that everything you do and say in your everyday life is positive to yourselves, to those around you, and most important of all, to those you love and love you dearly. Show and act based on compassion, and pray that compassion spreads because the world is very much in need of it now.

Despite all the troubles, we also had wonderful news from our Graduating Class of 2022. Through all of the adversity of the past two years - the most important years of their high school lives, and the competition of overflowing universities applications around the world, the Class of 2022’s university acceptances have triumphed against all odds.

Congratulations to all of our students from Class of 2022! Thank you so much for all the hard work over the past 16 years, including the input of all students, parents, teachers, support teachers, assistants and specialist teachers, administrators, and our college counselors who worked with every single one of our students to achieve the best university acceptances. Thank you to everyone at Concordian who has been a part of our students’ journey.

I am so proud of every single one of my graduating students, because I truly believe that each and every one of them will carry Concordian’s Mission in their heart and will one day lead with Dignity, Integrity and, most importantly, with Compassion.

Valedictory Ceremony May 28th 2022 I cannot believe our school year has passed so quickly and

we have now bid goodbye to our seniors, and are preparing ourselves to welcome Grade 11s to be the new senior class! It was wonderful to hold the Senior Graduation in person for the Class of 2022! Excitedly, they received their accolades for a job well done. As they head off to their respective universities, we wish them every success and we celebrate in their accomplishments. Congratulations also go to their parents on this accomplished milestone in the lives of their children!

PY Chinese Writing Contest 2022

Concordian International School was very excited to organize its

8th PY Chinese Writing Competition in April 2022. The contest was designed to promote the love of writing and expression, as well as to showcase Concordian PY students’ writing abilities. We hope students will be proud of their Chinese writing skills and the progress they make year after year in Chinese learning.

The following are the writing topics this year. These were announced to both teachers and students on the day of their contest, out of fairness.

On Monday, April 25th, 2022, four different awards were announced in each class and grade level: ● The Excellent Writer Award (the 1st place winner of the class) ● The Great Writer Award (the 2nd place winner of the class) ● The Grade Level Excellent Writer Award (the 1st place winner of the grade level) ● The Grade Level Great Writer Award (the 2nd place winner of the grade level) Congratulations to all the amazing young writers. G1C Yada: 我觉得写作很难，可是 没想到我能得第一名。我妈妈 会很惊喜。Writing is hard but it was a total surprise that I won my class 1st place. My mom would be thrilled to learn this news.

G1C Vita: 我兴奋极了！这是我第 一个中文奖杯。下一次，我要多 写一些内容，让故事更有趣，让 读者更快乐。I am so excited because this is my first Chinese trophy. Next time, I will write more and make my stories more interesting for the pleasure of my readers.

G1I Anya: 当我听到我的名字的时 候，我真不敢相信，因为写作是 不容易的事情。我不敢相信金灿 灿的奖杯是我自己的。When my name was called out, I could not believe my ears. Writing is not easy and I still can not believe this golden trophy belongs to me.

G1I Fah: 谢谢老师给我奖杯，我 很开心。在写作比赛那天，我非 常认真。我真的得奖了，我很自 豪！I’d like to thank the teachers who awarded me this trophy. I am very pleased to receive it. I worked very hard and I won indeed. I’m proud of myself.

G1D Stephanie: 因为我每天努力 写很多作文，所以我得到大奖 杯，我很高兴，这是我第一次得 奖。I won the big trophy (Grade level 1st place) because I practice writing stories everyday. I am so happy as this is the first time I won a trophy.

G1D Anya: 我真高兴啊！我家里没 有一个中国人，可是我也得奖 了，我要感谢每一个教我的中文 老师！I am so happy! None of my family members are Chinese and I won thanks to all the Chinese teachers who have taught me!

G1D Otto:我真惊喜啊！因为我得 到了又亮晶晶又金灿灿的奖杯！ 我在写作比赛的时候用了很多 超级词语，说话，感叹句，感 情和比喻句,所以我得奖了！I am so surprised to receive the shining golden trophy. I won because I used many adjectives, dialogues, exclamatory sentences, simile sentences and true feelings in my writing.

G2I Poon: 我知道我一定会得奖 的，因为我觉得我真的非常努力 的在学中文，我想告诉每一个同 学，只要你们努力学习，认真 听讲，反复练习，你们也可以 做到的！I knew I was going to win this contest because I really study very hard in Chinese. I want to share with everyone that as long as you work hard, listen carefully, practice and review frequently, you can all win!

G2I Risa: 我非常开心我可以得奖，但是，我知道我 的朋友们也都很棒，我会继续努力学习中文，上 课专心听讲，认真记笔记，做好每一次作业。I am very happy I won, but I know my friends are all great, therefore I will continue to study hard in Chinese, listen attentively in class, take notes carefully and try my best to complete work.

G2S Thi: 我很有信心自己在这次 作文比赛中能得奖！果然，我得 奖了！我非常开心！I was confident I was going to win and indeed I did! I am extremely happy about it.

G2S Korbua: Ms. Ariel说我得奖的 时候我感到很惊讶，我没想到 我竟然会得奖！我真是太兴奋 了！When Ms. Ariel announced my name, I was so surprised and didn't expect it at all. I am so excited that I won.

G3I Alicia: 我非常惊讶我可以得 奖，因为这是我第一次得到第一 名。希望明年我也可以得奖。I was so surprised to learn I won. This is the first time I won the class 1st place. I hope next year will win again.

G3I Aiya: 今年是我第二次得奖， 我很开心。我写作时会想怎么可 以写得有趣，我写好后会再读一 读，改一改。This is the second time I won the writing contest and I am so happy.

When I write, I try to see how I can make my story more interesting. I will read my writing and make edits.

G3D Kuan-Kuan: 我感到很开心！我 想明年我要更努力，我希望明年 的比赛我可以得第一名。I am very happy and I will work harder next year, hopefully I will win 1st place.

G3D Look Peach: 我感到很开心，因 为去年的比赛我只得了第二名。 今年我终于得到第一名，我觉得 自己进步了。我相信只要努力就 可以做到！I am so happy because last year I got 2nd place and this year I got 1st! I am pleased with my improvement. I believe there is a will, there is a way.

G3D Mona: 我感到兴奋极了，因 为这是我第一次在写作比赛得 奖。明年我要更努力！I am so excited because this is the first time I won the writing contest. Next year I will work even harder.

G4C Tri: 我在一年级时得了第三 名，在三年级时得了第二名，现 G3S Peang-Or: 我在这次写作比赛 在四年级，我得第一名！我太兴 得了第一名！我感到很开心也很 奋了！我认为要不断地的努力和 吃惊，因为我觉得别的同学写得 练习才能越来越好，我要继续努 比我好。我真的很开心，也会继 力，明年也要拼第一名。 续努力！ I am so surprised that I got 1st place as I think my classmates write I got 3rd place in G1 and 2nd place in G3. G4S Aya: 这是我第一次得奖，我 很自豪。我认为要写好作文，平 时一定要多练习写字。This is my first time winning a writing contest and I am very proud of myself. I think the key to success is practicing writing a lot.

G4S Xiu Xiu: 我是第一次得奖，我 开心极了！为了写好作文，我上 课非常认真听讲，也多用好词 好句。This is my first time winning a writing contest and I am extremely happy.

In order to write well, I listened carefully in class and used many good words and sentences.

G4D Pun Pun: 我得奖又惊又喜， 我认为多练习写字和记住超级 词语对写作文很有帮助。I was so surprised and delighted to win the writing contest. I think practicing Chinese characters and using many juice words is very helpful.

G4D Reiko: 我听到老师叫到我 的名字我很激动，我认为一篇 好作文要多用超级词语和关联 词。I was very excited to hear my name being announced. I think a good writing piece needs to use many juicy words and conjunctive words.

G5I Leo: 我认为第一是要写对，第 二才是好。虽然我得第一名，但 是我觉得我可以做得更好。The key to writing is first of all to ensure the correctness (correct Chinese characters and grammar) and then is about the beauty of language (word choice and techniques). Though I won the grade level 1st place, I still have more room to improve.

G5I Sureen: 我想把这个奖献给我 的妈妈，因为她是我从小到大， 在教我中文。我也要感谢所有教 过我的中文老师们。I would like to dedicate my trophy to my mom who taught me tirelessly since I was little. I also would like to thank all my Chinese teachers who helped me grow.

G5I Term: 我听到我的名字后，我 欢喜得跳了起来！这件事让我学 到要好好地复习，然后要全力 以赴。When my name was called out, I jumped out of joy. I learned I need to review learning often and always try my best.

G5I Grace: 我很开心，因为这是我 第一次在写作比赛得奖！以后我 要继续努力！I am so happy as this is the first time I won the Writing Contest! I will continue to work hard!

G5S Skye: 我开心极了，因为我 得到全年级第二名！I am extremely happy because I won the grade level 2nd place!

G5S Ivy: 我知道我得奖时，我 很开心，因为这是我第一次 得奖。明年我要继续努力！I am so happy to learn I won the Writing Contest because this is the first time. I will continue to work hard.

Without them, I would not be who I am now.

CENTERSTAGE@11 April 7, 2022 The exceptional talents of Concordian Primary Years students were showcased once again on April 7, 2022. In spite of the pandemic, we were absolutely fortunate and delighted to have hosted and shared the streamed-live coverage of Centerstage @11 on our YouTube Channel.

Twenty one acts (with 45 participating students) vied for the Super Nova award, a special award given to the act/s whose performance or performances have the “WOW” factor, and are close to perfection. It is not by category, but by the impact that they have made that wowed the audience, and the five honorable judges, Mr. Laurent, Ms Dessy, Ms. Jing, Ms. Hyesun and Kru Aim. Our heartiest congratulations to JJ G1I (Piano), Vicky G4C (Piano), Times G3S (Guitar), and Pun Pun G4D (Aerial Hammock), who were the Supernova recipients this year, and a massive thanks to all our multi-talented PY student participants. We would also like to acknowledge our gracious and eloquent Masters of Ceremonies, Ivy (G5s) and Sureen (G5I). Kudos to you all for sharing your talents and for being such an inspiration!!!

We are incredibly grateful to our school community - to our administrators, PY teachers and teaching assistants, secretaries, purchasing staff, custodians, and maintenance staff whose immense help and assistance are beyond compare. Moreover, a very special thank you goes out to our technical (IT) team, especially to K. Game, K. Santi, K. Max, and K. Wat who worked conscientiously from auditions, rehearsals, up until the actual show. Our heartfelt thanks as well to all the participants’ parents for their unparalleled encouragement and support.

Earth Day

Football Tournament The

story of our Lady Dragons Earth Day Football Tournament is one of human success and an understanding that our future will be brighter.

After waiting for two years, we were allowed to play, but with careful guidelines. No outside teams, no spectators, social distancing between games and at the water stations, and just so you know, we had to take an ATK test before playing.

It was not ideal for wanting environmental booths around the perimeter of the field, music with meaningful lyrics from the speakers, and the smell of organic healthy foods in the air.

So, we decided that this Earth Day Tournament would be an agreement that with one year of planning and commitment, we will make next year’s tournament a true Earth Day Festival.

All of us players from Grades 7-11 would like to thank our teachers - Mr. Bill, Khun Kay, and Mr. Laurent, for letting us play, and Coach Neil, Coach Toni, Coach Nui, and Coach K for the football being intense and joyful at the same time.

Athletics News

Girls Football 2022 quarantining and hybrid learning accommodations, the G3 girls team showed their dedication to the sport when they took to the pitch in February.

Lilo, Bambi, Namhomm, Mira, Hana, Alicia, and Neala made up our super seven this year. While this team is small in numbers, they are full of spirit!

After a long break from football, the team focused on fundamentals like passing, dribbling and movement drills to get their skills back up to speed. They quickly surpassed expectations and showed much improvement through their communication and quick passing in match style situations. Their confidence, coordination and cooperation are improving with each practice.

Once tournaments and friendly play return, this will be a force to be reckoned with!

Look out for this group of G3 (soon to be G4) girls squad next school year! They have been working hard and are ready to show off their skills.

Grade 12 Anthropomorphism:

Animal symbolism

Kindred Horses and zebras are astonishingly similar animals. The primary distinction between them is their color. The similarity between these two animals inspired the piece. The piece depicts how people sometimes alter themselves to fit in with society, creating another version of themselves and questioning which version is their true self. Like the zebra, the horse is dressed as a mime, complete with white and black makeup and a striped black and white shirt.

Thanutchai (Act) Chaisupat

Dream and Death The piece is my interpretation of a dream in which I reincarnated as a different person. Inspired by Salvador Dali, an explorer of subconscious imagery, the piece employs pictographs to describe dreams through the use of a symbolic object and an animal resembling Dali's work figure. The elements in this image correspond to my unconscious mind while dreaming. The whale, emblazoned with the cross call on its body, represents death and rebirth in the dream until the end.

Facade Inspired by body language that can be interpreted in a variety of ways. The piece depicts two apes with their mouths turned up and their front teeth visible. A smile is a type of facial expression that represents pleasure or amusement in humans. When animals are afraid, threatened, or stressed, they will make this expression, which exposes the teeth in the same way that a smile does.

The piece represents how good deeds can be interpreted in a negative light.

Heremita Contrasting between hermit behavior and materialism. The piece is inspired by the behavior of the hermit crab and a fashion magazine. To safeguard their fragile body, hermit crabs must occupy shells. Hermit crabs must use shelters or risk being defenseless. Extreme behavioral shifts in human evolution, like the hermit crab, lead us towards the lifestyle of materialism.

Humans often push the extremes to reach for what we yearn for.

Like the crab, humans use clothing as a protective shell.

Life harmony This painting is inspired by my personal belief that humans and nature are interlinked. I wanted the viewer to reflect on the importance of nature as a provider of everything people need to survive and enjoy life. The strong ruptured skull means death. Nature is shown as flowers, vulnerable and frail.

Four Seasons Four Seasons conveys the ideas of the natural connections between water, earth, forest, and wind. These four elements are connected by spiral flower petals to show how nature is strongly linked to these four elements and humans. Different tones of turquoise, brown, green, and blue depict the essence of each element. Petals are multicolor to represent a connection of all elements in a timeless, infinite way.

Be Born Be Born is the way of expressing the idea of life as a new beginning.

The baby is in the mother's womb as a way to represent a world of new opportunities. Butterflies symbolizing long life are witnessing how the baby will be born. The vines are intertwined with the umbilical cord to represent the connection between humankind and nature.

In the artwork, “The Ambassadors" by Hans Holbein, Vanitas is portrayed by the elongated skull on the floor to symbolize mortality, perhaps tracing back to The Black Death in the 1340s.

Grab It Grab It is a sculpture that conveys the idea of transformation.

Humans and nature are constantly transforming into new phases. This sculpture of a hand reaching out of the plate surrounded by several stones represents the magical power of change that lies on the human hand. The plate, as an object that people use daily, represents an offering in the same way nature offers humans its resources. Stones represent the earth, humans' main provider.

From the moon An astronaut stands on the moon as he stares back at Earth. This artwork shows the sense of achievement that is the result of incessant struggles. This artwork is inspired by the images of the moon landing as it shows a step forward in human exploration. The moon that the astronaut is standing on symbolizes new heights that have been reached whilst the Earth he looks back at symbolizes the beginning of the journey. The beauty of the Earth mirrors how past reminiscent memories can be beautiful.

Elysian For this piece, I found inspiration researching plant ecosystems. I found the dynamics of ecosystems had mirrored different ways people live.

Uninterrupted, nature grows with chaotic beauty: trees tower, and flowers bloom. The bubbles represent the various lenses through which life is seen or experienced. For instance, Life can be considered a fight, where trees constantly fight for resources and sunlight. Life can also be a search for harmony. The exchange of resources ceases at equilibrium.

Les Montagnes (The Mountains) A man glows brightly in the dimly-lit landscapes. Surrounded by hills and mountains, he trudges. The artwork is inspired by paintings of Caspar David Friedrich’s. This painting symbolizes how people brought light to the world and the melancholic beauty of nature. The hills symbolize the struggles we humans must overcome. The darkness also symbolizes how nature facilitates nothing. The darkness shows that we must overcome the challenges ourselves as there is no exterior assistance from nature.

Life and Death Color glitters and emanates from a glass tree sat atop two hills teeming with flora. At the hill’s foundation stands a gravestone.

Inspired by a rainbow I saw in the dark cloudy skies before a storm. I am reminded of the phrase “The calm before the storm”. The rainbow represents hope, peace, and equality which grow as the tree does, whereas the gravestone symbolizes death and the passage of time.

I found this meaningful as it showed the ephemeral nature of beauty and the inevitability of time.

Ascension After survival comes ascension. When life transcends the goal of survival it may seek distinction through elevation. Life can trample over nature, to use it as a stairway to an objective. Ambitions and aspirations of supremacy, aided by nature’s willingness to proffer, at nature’s expense. Ever more, nature’s beauty is meaningfully exhibited and outshines the darkness from the sins of life.

Château sur la Montagne (Castle on the Mountain) I was inspired by the beauty of medieval structures in rural landscapes.

This piece shows a castle that rests upon the top of a mountain sitting in isolation in the midst of the green natural landscape. I used a combination of the techniques of digital 3d modeling and matte painting to create this piece with the castle being the magnificent Mont Saint Michel in France. The castle represents mankind.

Majestic but insignificant to nature. We may be on top, but inferior to nature’s vast expansion.

Dancing Leaf This piece is a consolidation of natural and artificial elements. The addition of wires allows momentum motions, symbolizing wind.

Wind embodies humans' spirit, freedom, and existence and all living creatures. Gold epitomizes sunlight and natural mineral. Likewise, insects tend to lay their eggs on leaves, so in that case, it also symbolizes ‘nature is humans and living organisms’ nursery.’

Nurturing new life, which eventually will come to an end. The cutout leaves intersect to form the woven effect as for how nature and humans are tied together.

The tunnel of ‘life.’

This installation is a tunnel constructed by a mirror panel and butterfly tunnels. The audience will become a part of the installation by crawling through the tunnel, similar to a caterpillar.

The butterflies symbolize how we envision our growth and the bright idea of how pretty and free we will be once we ‘grow up, which is when the audience finishes with crawling and can finally stand up and walk around freely.

Songbirds and Pomegranates This piece symbolizes Chinese auspiciousness. The pomegranate in Chinese culture symbolizes fertility, prosperity, and turning tragedy into happiness. Songbirds symbolize upcoming Spring, honesty, and fertility. Zheng Ling Ling inspires this piece. The mix-mediums and fractured sections represent diversified interpretations, which the traditional art ultimately illustrates who I am. Thus, the mixed medium showcased the variety of my cultural backgrounds.

Ephemeral This piece indicates the harmony between humanity and nature. The perfect square does not exist in nature; the diversity of whites that provided unique dimensions and texture created the “floating illusion” inspired by Malevich.

The ceramic pieces were positioned based on the Fibonacci Spiral, which complemented the art of natural material and the only golden work based on the golden ratio. This piece is made out of three mediums: oil paint, acrylic, and two types of white clays.

This installation piece will be completed with hung images of individuals holding a sign with their insecurities written on them. The intention behind this piece is to advocate for body positivity. As the audience walks through the small room of mirrors, they will see their reflections and make them a part of the exhibition. The audience will have to dodge the hanging images while walking through the piece, symbolizing that we must step aside and acknowledge diversity.

Flourishing chaos Inspired by Mia Pearlman’s “Clouded house” and Poonyawee Iamsakul’s “Bride”, the flourishing chaos is a reflective piece of one’s thoughts through depression. The movements are beautiful chaos without our minds. The black roses symbolize thoughts and death. The waves symbolize thoughts flowing between ideas. Similar to the composition of flowers, one sits in the corner to overthinking, it’s big enough to devour one’s thought, thus possibly taking over one’s self and finally losing one’s control.

Time to unfold Inspired by Helen Wells' "Tropical Love," I drew this piece featuring repetition, rhythm, and organic forms. I was fascinated by her use of organic lines and mesmerized by her beauty. I decided to mimic her drawing techniques, enhanced with dead flowers, leaves falling apart, and elements of the fallen fashion industry to symbolize the beauty in death and how life (nature) unfolds itself within a deadline set, thus showing the mixture of beauty in nature after a catastrophe.

Moments Inspired by Piet Mondrian’s “Broadway Boogie Woogie”. Similar to the artist’s visual inspiration of roads and the color scheme, I mimicked it by using duct tape, a medium used to restrict one’s communication or vision. I incorporated my own culture by writing poetry in Thai and Chinese, with meanings of restriction and death alongside 3 faces that are supposed to be restricted but in my piece, they are all fully visible, unlike the covered truth of the unforeseen.

Desolate Void Inspired by Van Gogh's Starry Night over the Rhone, an attempt to appropriate the color scheme of the painting in a way to evoke "dynamic rhythm". The calm night sky on glass empathizes with how Van Gogh and the audience would look at the night sky.

The deep void in memes of a loved one who has passed away. Thus, the night sky reflects loneliness and entropy. However, the question of "why would one wish to live, to embrace, and to give affection" is one for oneself to answer.

Two Perspectives Inspired by J.A.C. Bezer, with the median being colored pencil chalk and patterns. This artwork focuses on the context of double cultural identity. Furthermore, this aims to reflect me based on my cultural background through different perspectives. I would like to incorporate a richness of different textures and colors into my artwork. The background of this artwork represents my Thai culture, whereas the overall women and the clothing present my French culture.

Friction in comfort zone The girl embracing herself is meant to represent my own feelings and how I feel trapped between two cultures. When I describe myself as half, I feel more at ease and comfortable with myself. However, I still feel compelled to choose between my two nationalities. The red circle symbolizes Thai, the blue circle represents French, and the purple tint in the middle represents me. The facial expression conveys an emptiness while being tranquil in an attempt to embrace myself more fully.

The inspiration behind this is the unpredictability of having these 2 elements of women's lingerie and rabbit fur combined together as one. With that in mind this challenges the perception of what is acceptable in society and how this has influenced the borders of what is considered “art”.

This is a piece to symbolize ancient beauty and the appreciation of Greek and Egyptian art. The uneven texture would be a representation of the sensual aspect of liquid and the flow of the woman's silhouette. This is a minimalistic modern piece, mimicking the shape of a woman. The piece would not have much detail about the area so there could be room for interpretation. The extreme exaggeration of the human body will represent the ideal beauty of the present times with the increase in social pressure.

Judgement Judgement’s style is inspired by traditional Chinese paintings and contemporary artist, James Jean. The subject matter of this piece involves human internal conflict between rights and wrongs. The gaze creates a quiet discomfort portraying the silent fight of the person’s id, ego and superego.

Within the Crowds Within the Crowds is inspired by Hong Kong cinematographer Wong Kar-Wai. This series of street photography explores the feeling of the physical detachment of human senses from the surrounding cultural-urban landscape. A sense of loneliness pervades the atmosphere even when the buzzing streets of Chinatown are spirited. Reflecting on a veiled distance that has been created by rapid urban changes affecting the facade of Thai-Sino culture.

Desolation.

Absence Quietness is said to be peaceful. Inspired by Superflat style and James Jean’s fantastical symbolism and composition, Absence is about the discomforting silence of mental paralysis experienced during sleep. Thanatos and Hypnos are symbols of gentle destruction awaiting control similar to self-destructive thoughts. The varied pacing of brushstrokes and illogical scaling of objects mimics a dreamlike state of the sleeper creating an enigmatic distortion illusion of personal truths.

The strings symbolize the ignored self-destructive actions that turn into an unforeseen danger to our future selves, restraining us from ever being free from consequences.

Wonderland As we grow older, we prefer to build our own Wonderland to escape the current world, which is full of challenging experiences of "development" and "self-discovery." Wonderland allows us to enter a new stage in our lives with new opportunities. Spending a significant amount of one's life imagining and having paranormal experiences causes people to gradually sink into a fantasy and lose the ability to distinguish between fantasy and reality. Imagination influences our expectations and hopes, as well as our behaviors.

Invention of Storms To live, we must dominate nature, but we must also appreciate nature's enormous force and discover ways to use it to our advantage. We might be astonished and inspired by the beautiful sight from our safe sanctuary indoors. Our resilience will find a way for us to live and learn from the experience.

Even though we don't take care of life with nurturing and seriousness. The skin represents who we are, how we feel, and provides us with a feeling of surface awareness. It creates a barrier between our bodies and the environment. The skin may also represent what is obstructing your emotions or the yearning to express oneself. Portrayal of

Procrastination & Depression Anuruth (Otto) Ruangronghiranya

Vieux Alberto Giacometti has inspired me to follow his techniques of creating rough clay surfaces and giving emphasis to the head being the focal point. Making other body parts less detailed and shaped isolates the sculpture to have one fixed focal point, therefore giving importance to the face giving off the sense of distress. Rough textures symbolize the rough feeling of anxiety and fear built up within the person, whereas old age characterizes the experience of what one has been through.

Monotonous Works by George Seurat and Chuck Close inspired me to create my own piece pertaining to an allusion that utilizes repetitive shapes to form an image, resulting in an image to be seen as a whole. Seurat's work uses many color dots to blend them all together to form an image. For my idea, I want to introduce Seurat's art style to the tiredness expressed through the physical labor one has been through. Repetitive thumbprints on a black and white canvas represent the monotonous days of the worker.

Fatigued Karl Schmidt's techniques and concepts inspire me to create a piece that expresses anxiety and fear. Bags under the eyes or the use of bold line symbolizes the feeling of devastation that one would feel to the point of being worn out and the inescapable void that's holding us down. I want to arouse these types of emotions in others on a personal level, even though people have different perceptions of fear and anxiety, the one thing that is true is the emotions that the person is experiencing.

This piece serves the purpose of representing a secluded space in contrast to his works. While his works may invoke a sense of despair and hollowness, this piece is made with the intent of being relatable in the modern day where such a simple thing as a room can be a medium in displaying a surge of complex emotions; one made to be contained unlike the overt presence of his works.

Dim sum This piece is drawn from my experience as a Thai-Chinese person. Even though dim sum is predominantly a Chinese dish, it is still a very popular dish rooted in Thai-Chinese culture. This piece was taken at an old dim sum restaurant in Chinatown, just like me, the dish is rooted in Chinese culture and has its origin from China, but it is created and adjusted to fit Thai culture and taste. This piece is made using oil and acrylic, oil is used to paint the baskets and the food because of oil colors similar to that of the food, it’s difficult to work with, yet it could yield incredible results if done right. This is an analogy to the complex cooking methods in Chinese cuisine.

Beef Noodles This piece is drawn from my experiences as a Thai-Chinese person. The subject of this piece, or the beef noodles, represent myself since Thai noodles are a mix between Thai and Chinese food and culture, furthermore, the reason that I chose to use beef noodles instead of other types of noodles is because beef noodles are my favorite and because of that, I feel like it is an accurate representation of me and my culture and heritage. Furthermore, the two flowers in the background are also representative of Thai and Chinese culture, with the pink flower, or the peony, being the national flower of China and the yellow flowers, ratchapruek (casta fistula), being the national flower of Thailand. For this piece, I was influenced by the Thai Artist Jirapat Tatsanasomboon, as he is known for taking western culture and mixing it with Thai culture in his own paintings.

Ink In this piece, I wanted to explore the relationship between unhealthy food and death. The foods that I wanted to represent in this piece are food from America, China and Thailand because of my own identity, I am an American citizen, living in Thailand, coming from an ethnically and culturally Chinese background.

Print In this piece I wanted to explore the similarities and differences of food from different cultures. The dumpling is the subject of my piece because as a form of food, the dumpling is prevalent in many cultures, in Chinese culture it’s the Jiao Zi, in Japanese culture it’s the Gyoza and in Italian culture it’s the ravioli. I find it fascinating that despite the distance and differences in every culture, there is still something similar between them all.

Light, shadow, and form Peeraya (Pennt) Laorittikrai

Cotton, candy, clouds, crows’ series ‘Cotton, candy, clouds, crows’ is a series of photographs taken when the sun is setting, focusing on the crows gathered around the electric posts and their wires. The photograph revolves around the complexity of the city wires and how nature adapts to the consistent changes, ultimately resulting in beautiful, unimaginable sceneries which are hard to capture. Comparable to the idea of ‘surrealism’, these cotton candy clouds create a dreamy effect, leaving the audience in their own imaginations.

The Lights "The Lights," set in Yaowarat, Bangkok’s modern Chinatown, focuses on the lights and shadows through the portrayal of photography. Yaowarat specializes in its nightlife, displaying the wonders of colour through signs and advertisements and attracting both locals and foreigners.

Known for its neon lights and traffic, people are stunned by the shimmering night lights. With motion, movement, and the contrast between light and darkness, this series of photographs illustrates the beauty of Chinatown.

Skystalker ‘Skystalker’ refers to a transformer prime, an energy-efficient Decepticon micromaster who has full control over the interstellar shuttle. In the contemporary world, fictional characters are only a part of imagination, but what if it’s brought to life? These fictional characters live rentfree in children’s minds, a futuristic setting that not only humans can access. However, with certain limitations of human imag- The Cache inations, they are only restricted to being ‘The Cache’ refers to something that is hidden or stored, particularly short-term monochrome, equivalent to a sketch. computer memories. In correlation to the artwork, the boat depicts a person travelling through time, the canal acting as a memory lane, along with graffiti representing past experiences. Ultimately, all of these reminiscences are contained in the person’s brain, equivalent to how people utilize the cache. Furthermore, the boxes portray how the memories build up, illustrating that this occurs in the futuristic society.

Lost in Polaroidise The word ‘Polaroidise’, a play of words between polaroid and paradise. ‘Lost in Polaroidise’ refers to how the neon lights effectively attract the viewer to the lights rather than the polaroid camera, lost in the vividness of colours. The contrasting light becomes delusional and creates another dimension where the light revolves around the main subject: the camera. It cannot be defined whether the audience is lost in the artwork’s complication or the artwork is lost in the audience’s mind.

Imagination In this piece, the wooden coat hanger represents humans who were born bare and vulnerable, and the wires wrapped around it represent our imagination that shapes us into who we are and makes us strong. Even though the wooden hangers can be broken, the wires are what holds the shape and keep us going.

The Human Project This project is inspired from the tragic news that had been making headlines in Thailand for a long time about people being killed for their organs and body parts which would be sold on the black market. Design students worked on a unit oriented to bird’s wildlife conservation. The final products are macrame hanging planters, feeders, or nests that provide food and shelter to bring back local birds to our school. Students researched how to use appropriate sustainable textiles to maintain wildlife in urbanized areas. They sketched and designed a plan to construct a textile structure, and they created individualized clay beads, or they painted wooden beads to add additional aesthetic features. They learned knotting techniques to generate a diversity of patterns. The creation of the product required five to six hours. The macrame hanging baskets are unique, beautiful, and functional, holding around 1-to-2-kilogram pots according to the design specifications. All our G6 are proud of their work and new knotting skills!

Fun with Baking During the second quarter, Grade 6 math students learned to

follow a recipe and apply their math knowledge about fractions and unit conversions to make two batches of chocolate chip cookies.

We had a lot of fun learning how to measure the ingredients properly from YouTube. We also had to do some math in order to make two batches when the recipe is only for one batch of cookies. We learned to look at the results to figure out what could have gone wrong if our cookies did not come out as expected. We were pleasantly surprised that the cookies were very delicious. It was a success!

6 students have been using interactive notebooks throughout the year which differ from traditional note-taking because students “interact” with knowledge, experiences, and feedback. This model allows students to create a product that merges the insights from their learning process with information, instead of just copying down notes from a book or the board.

It includes notes taken in class, a video or a text, and graphic organizers.

the third quarter, the students learned vocabulary relating to physical fitness and collected data on physical fitness activities like push-ups, squats, and sit-ups in PHE and they used their knowledge of statistics learned in Math to explore two questions: 1) Are there any differences in the performance of boys and girls in individual fitness activities?

2) Are there any differences in my performance on the fitness activities?

Nervous because it was the first time they had to give a 5-6 minute presentation, they all walked away with an appreciation of how analyzing data could give them answers to questions.

They also reflected on how much they have improved on different fitness activities. It was impressive how well students were able to use technology such as Google Sheets to sort data, create tables and create graphs.

Dissection Labs In Grade 7 the students were able to put their critical thinking and practical dissection skills into practice with two different laboratory activities. A dissection of the humble chicken wing (try it at home!) provided the students with an opportunity to see how the muscular-skeletal system works to enable movement. In quarter 3, Grade 9 students engaged in the Thai & Chinese IDU In where they learned about the mixture of cultures, societies and lifestyles from both Thai and Chinese class to find out the connections between the two cultures. This extended students’ understanding on how Chinese immigrants have impacted Thai society. Moreover, students also thought about their identities and beliefs of their own under the influence of globalization. In the end of this Unit, students created a poster to showcase their understanding of the connections between Thai and Chinese cultures.

Grade 10 students completed an interdisciplinary unit exploring the relationship between society and art. They learned about the Great War in I&S and each Arts discipline investigated the impact conflict has on the creation and performance of music, visual arts and drama. The learning culminated in the Cafe Voltaire performance, a nod to the Cabaret Voltaire where arts and politics took stage in 1916, and students were able to showcase the synthesis of their learning.

Another meaningful learning experience was an interview with G9 Thai & Chinese IDU Ms. Jeanne’s father, “The Great War: memories of my dad from Ms. Rong his grandfather” about life after the Great War in the village of Villiers-Saint-Georges. Pim (G6): I wrote my writing from my heart and everything was true, it made me appreciate my mom even more and felt that she was really important. Chinese writing is very important because it will help us in the future! I am very happy to be the winner of the first year's writing competition in the MYP because I never thought I would win and I also feel proud of myself for winning.

Next year, I will also try my best to win the Chinese writing contest again!

Paris (G6): When I won first place I felt very happy, I also felt very accomplished about it. This is because it was my first time winning first place in this Chinese Writing Contest. I felt that I did really well and put a lot of effort into my piece, but I didn’t expect to be able to win first place in my whole class. I also felt really happy when I was in the email that told who won the Wen Xin Cup Contest. I felt happy that my picture was in there.

Rita (G6): I felt really happy and proud of myself when I found out that I got 2nd place. I tried my best and put all my effort into it. I wrote about what I learned about the unit we were learning, which was about nature, the environment, the animals, human impact on the environment, and what we can do to help. It was an easy topic for me to write about since I was very interested in it so that motivated me to write well.

Otto (G8): After many years of participating in this writing competition, this years’ is definitely one that will be unforgettable; filled with excitement and determination through all phases and students. Through this competition, I was able to regain confidence in my Chinese writing skills that were previously lost, or confidence that was never even there to begin with. When my name was called to the front of the class, I was shocked and felt proud to see my large improvement. I have to admit that this competition was difficult and rough as Chinese was neither my strong point, nor my mother tongue. However, one significant Meena (G7): I really appreciate my Chinese teachers’ guidance lesson was learned: never give up. Even if you feel down, or are and encouragement! When I was first notified that I received at your lowest point you should never give up. this award, I felt excited because I used to struggle with writing.

Pim (G7): I would like to thank all of the Chinese teachers that had taught me for the past 10 years, without them, it is impossible for me to get this award. I have participated in Chinese writting contests 4 times, each year the writting topics are really broad, we can choose what we would like to write about. This year I decided to write about "family is the most important", for the reason that I grew up in a wonderful family and I can apply the values that we learned from Chinese class to my writing. I will continue improving my Chinese.

Grand (G8): My family and I were so elated when I received an award from the Chinese writing competition. I did not expect that I would receive the award since my classmates are all so talented and have very unique topics that they have written. This competition was a good opportunity to express my thoughts and opinions while using the Chinese language. Even though there were some mistakes and areas that I did in the competition, I will continue to improve my Chinese language skills and become a better student.

Annie (G10): The Contest is quite memorable for me since I have participated in it every year. Thinking that this is the last time to attend it, I feel very thankful for this special honor. A Great Learning Experience

For our Thai Communication class, we

had to create a business and run it by ourselves. The objective of this project is to help us learn how a business is run and the challenges we will face when running a business. The name of our company is Pétales Savon.

For those who do not understand French, this name translates to “petals soap”. Our product is a body soap that contains petals inside. The whole class unanimously agreed to make soap. The reason for this is that soap is not only covid-friendly, but it is also relatively easy to produce. All the profit we earned from this project will also be used for our school build project next school year.

Lastly, we distributed the product to all our customers and wrapped up our project by presenting our work in front of our only investor (our teacher).

Everyone in our class learned a lot from this project. We learned how to work as a team, stay organised, think on our feet, solve problems, think creatively, and most importantly improve our Thai. This experience is extremely valuable to us. It inspired many people in our class to follow their dreams and find their career paths.

The judges were Mr. Markus, DP Coordinator, Ms. Rachel, MYP Coordinator, Mr. Jamie, I&S, Psychology and TOK teacher, and public speaking extraordinaire; and Coach K, MYP/DP Athletics Coordinator. Despite the wealth of talented entries, the judges managed to select ten finalists from Grades 6-10 who went on to present live at the Grand Theater on May 31, 2022.

Public speaking can be daunting, but these ten students rose to the challenge and delivered polished, impressive performances in front of their peers, teachers, and administrators.

Some spoke of overcoming their personal challenges, and others shared some of their life lessons while others related funny stories. The messages were easy to relate to, timely, and unique.

Amid stiff competition, three finalists were selected: Grace (Grade 10), Sheen (Grade 8), and Jane (Grade 6).

The English Department is incredibly proud of all the students who embraced public speaking. The fact that so many students auditioned speaks highly of their drive, commitment, courage, and ability. We hope this event inspires more students to try out for next year’s event, and we look forward to growing a new generation of confident public speakers.

World Scholar's Cup 2022 The

World Scholar’s Cup is an international team academic competition with more than 15,000 students participating from over 65 countries every year. Concordian’s WSC teams have had amazing results in 2022 with 10 students signing up for the competition that took place in the second weekend of June. The four teams of 10 students have won 2 trophies, 17 Gold medals and 28 silver medals altogether. Among the senior teams, Burger, Miki and Sheen won 2nd place in the Champion Team category!

at True Digital Park On June 8 the English B class visited The MQDC Future Tales Lab th

at True Digital Park. The organization focuses on studying many trends in various sectors to make predictions about what is on the near and further horizon for society. Ms. Austina Karma Gurung, Senior Foresight Researcher, presented “Future of Living” research to help prepare for sustainable living as society changes in the future. Students learned how insight into what is coming can help them make decisions about their actions now. They learned to see "future" as a plural word "futures" to indicate that many simultaneous possibilities are open to them. This visit served as a culmination of their study of human ingenuity and the examination of the pros and cons of how technology affects society today and in years to come.

Service Programs As the year wore on, and more and more Covid restrictions were

relaxed, our MYP students found more opportunities to get involved in meaningful service activities, helping to make the lives of various communities that little bit better. From G6, who experienced MYP service for the first time, to G10, who will be busy completing their DP CAS requirements next year, the following is a snapshot of a few of each MYP year level’s service projects from the second semester.

For our service project, we gave a detailed presentation to the G5 students and teachers about how MYP works since they will be transitioning soon. It was a group effort to make the slides and research mental health. In addition, Airi contacted Dr. Teresa and emailed the G5 teachers. Furthermore, IngIng and Ping Ping interviewed Dr. Teresa for expert advice. Moreover, the ATL skills our group used were social skills, as everyone had to be assigned a task they were to take full responsibility for, be able to make decisions, and equally cooperate in the roles assigned to them. Secondly, we used communication skills as our team had to be able to communicate our ideas and be respectful toward others’ ideas. Overall, our experience with G6 Service went well this year, we had a lot of questions from the 5th graders which was very unexpected for us. We hope that this presentation will inform G5 about the MYP program and help them smoothly transition into it.

For our service project, we helped the BangSaen community by cleaning up one of their most polluted beaches. We also helped kids in an orphanage by donating used clothes, toys, books, and essential needs. Throughout our projects, we used all the ATL skills but some of the main skills we used were communication and time management. Communication was important because we had to discuss where we wanted to help and how we wanted to help. Another way we used communication skills is when we had to communicate with the community and the people at the orphanage center. Time management was also really important because everything is packed into a tight schedule. In our first project, we picked up trash in the ocean. This project is connected to the Life Below Water Sustainable Development Goals. The experience was tiring because we were picking up trash for a long time but we also felt good because we knew that we were helping the environment. In our second project, we donated to the orphanage - this project connected to the Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well Being, and Quality Education Sustainable Development Goals. On top of that, we even donated 10,000 baht to the orphanage, so we felt great because we knew we helped the Grade 7 Service Program orphans. Overall, we learned that we are very fortunate to have a family that loves us.

Hello! We are a service group that targets helping children in Nia, Putney, Copter, Proton, and Khunpol (G6S) orphanages. We target the SDGs No Poverty and Zero Hunger.

The reason is that we want to help poor children who are in orphanages. We decided to do this because we realized all the privileged things that we have and how we no longer use them.

We want these children to be able to enjoy toys and belongings that we used to own because if it stays with us then it will be left unused. This impacts us significantly because we get to do good deeds and find places for toys that we can't find places to store.

Overall, we think this service project went very well and we got to see the happy faces of the children which makes us very grateful for everything we have.

Hello! We are the tree planting group and our targeted community are the visitors of Bangphu tree planting center. We decided to go there to plant mangrove trees because trees are decreasing, therefore resulting in the air quality getting worse and worse.

The CSA (Concordian Service) we targeted was Environmental Service, since we were helping the environment and wildlife by planting trees. Everything went well and we had fun, though we didn't have enough time and power to plant more trees. Plus, not everyone was able to go. Overall, it was a great experience that we will indeed do again. We hope to plant more trees next time!

Grade 8 Community Project Our year-long Community project was created to advocate for and assist people with mental problems. Despite the limitations imposed by Covid-19, our group members collaborated on the publication and compilation of a website 'Mental Art’. We believe that by presenting our work through a website, we can: 1. Provide a solution to mental problems (through our research); 2. Present our artwork and posters effectively; and 3. Give the viewer a variety of alternative options to choose from. There are still things yet to be accomplished - an example of that is the direct service we planned originally. Throughout the duration of the year, we have gained multiple ATL skills but the few most relevant skills that we have gained during this process include organization, collaboration and research skills. As a result, these skills help us develop as team workers, create more efficient procedures, gain more success, and communicate better. This year's community project was met with numerous obstacles, but the three of us were able to conquer them all. Our project is named W.O.H.E.O, an abbreviation for We Only Have Each Other, and our aim is to identify (mostly Covid) concerns in our local community and promote awareness through a social media campaign on Instagram, as well as distribute a donation box in school to donate items to Covid victims. Over the lengthy weeks and months of this school year, we were able to develop an Instagram account with posts on vaccines and Covid. We now have only three postings, but we have many more stored in our shared Google Drive folder. In addition, we painted and decorated a donation box, which we will most likely place somewhere in school by the end of the school year. However, we have had to postpone this idea in order to comply with the Covid requirements that have been imposed on us. This includes our donation box plan, which we've had since December but could only get started on now. An additional obstacle was Covid causing us to miss meetings that could have been used to further our cause and work towards our goal. Nonetheless, from this experience we have learned many valuable lessons and skills.

Grade 9 Independent Service Projects Our service project focuses on the SDG goal of Quality Education.

We believe that we should give back to our community by improving the education of people in need, specifically, kids with special needs who are in the age range of 8-12 years old. Therefore, we decided to donate handmade basic Math and English workbooks, in addition to mask straps and bead supplies to a foundation, ศูนย์พัฒนาศักยภาพบุคคลออทิสติกจังหวัดนนทบุรี or Center for the Development of Autistic Persons in Nonthaburi Province.

We purchased beads to make mask straps whilst utilizing our knowledge to provide educational workbooks. We have formatted our workbooks so they would aid the children in concentration as well as improve their language and mathematical abilities. Since we cannot get into physical contact with the foundation, we had to send the materials through the post office. Afterward, we were very appreciative to receive a “thank you” letter back from the foundation.

Proud, Prom and Prin For our community project this year, we decided to focus on the 3rd SDG goal, which is Good Health and Well-being. We were interested in helping children who are in need of tangible objects such as medical supplies. Over the course of the school year, we organized a 60-lap walkathon where parents, teachers, staff and students in the Concordian community were able to sponsor us to raise money. We used this money to purchase the supplies which we then planned to donate. By the end of the fundraiser, we were able to collect a total of 34,160 THB, allowing us to purchase diapers, liquid soap, and milk bottles for the Queen Sirikit Children’s Hospital Foundation, that we decided to work with.

There were some challenges we faced, such as managing school activities and service projects, contacting staff from both the school and the foundation, and even some miscommunication, but we finally managed to end this project on a positive note.

Although it might be tiring, and sometimes, things don’t go as planned, in the end, we all felt proud of the dedication we had placed into this service project to help children in need. While we weren’t able to talk to the kids due to them being in a different area for their check-ups, the hospital staff that we met expressed their appreciation. The foundation continues to be in need of similar medical supplies, for all those who are interested in helping out and supporting the cause.

Grade 10 Service Program Our project was a success as the initial goal was to collect and donate a total of 40 books, which we managed to accomplish.

This project (despite being extremely small) would definitely have impact on the children we donated to, because being able to freely have access to books is a privilege we were born with and lucky to have since we were little, so to be able to give to the young, less fortunate rural children is simply giving back, and is necessary. The project had a significant impact on us as we learned information about underprivileged areas and how to gather materials which can help the underprivileged. We discovered that we could finish things faster when we worked together and the biggest problem we faced was communication as the Covid-19 issue made it difficult to meet each other when working, and our project was delayed due to Covid regulations. If it weren’t for these strict rules, we could have gotten a lot more books to donate.

For our project, we decided to base everything around SDG 7 which is Affordable and Clean Energy. This was because we all believe that clean energy is where, on a global scale, we are heading in the near future. In the beginning of this project, we were planning to build a large vertical farm which features a water supply system that mists out water, however, due to the time constraints we decided to downsize the dimensions. In the end, we would consider that we accomplished our initial goal as we are able to create what we wanted to do since the beginning.

We decided to do this vertical farm as we believed that plants capture harmful carbon dioxide and release it as oxygen which is a good solution for us as we produce too much carbon dioxide on Earth. On the other hand, the water system that mists water not only waters the plant efficiently, but it also cools the area down by 9 degrees from our testing. In addition, the majority of us are interested in building physical objects that are useful to solve problems, therefore, we not only chose to do this structure just for the project, but it is also our passion to complete this project.

school year has provided the MSSG with the opportunity to organize in-person events, namely a house competition for each grade, three assemblies, and the final day festivities (which are about to kick off as the Impact Magazine is being delivered). Im- Given the restrictions, we agreed to do a combination of Kahoot portantly, we also were able to make crucial strides in the realm and Jeopardy for the house competition. It was our first "real" of policy. house competition in over a year, thus we wanted to come back with a bang. For the prizes we had small snack baskets. We presented the snacks in creative ways – the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes being distinctly different. This added to their allure by making the prizes more appealing to win. Some baskets were very "unique" to say the least, but later versions had a more aesthetic and "professional" look.

The questions for the Kahoot and Jeopardy featured fun personal trivia collected from our peers, which added to the interactiveness. Students would laugh and cheer when a question featuring one of their friends appeared. Additionally, we added small challenges like throwing a paper towel into a trash can or planking for three minutes. To complete the whole experience, we added grade specific in-jokes, part of our initiative to tailor each event to the audience in question.

In other news, we tried to implement measures to increase the enjoyment of assemblies. Given the year-long hiatus, we were eager to return. We stuck with some tried and true segments, like the fun facts and riddles, but also introduced new parts, like "from downtown" (inspired by throwing away paper towels into the trash after wiping your desk). Undoubtedly though, Sheen's energetic MCing was what added the most pizazz to the assemblies. It was definitely the defining aspect of our assemblies, and hopefully will be what sets the tone for future ones.

Additionally, we have been hard at work on revitalizing the lounge. Our policy efforts were a bit lackluster at the beginning of the year (and inspired by some of the HSSG's efforts), we were invigorated, and ready to make a concerted attempt at change.

The pandemic (and the policies that have gone along with it) have lessened the lounge's popularity. We aim to advocate for changes that help bring the lounge back to what it once was – a center of student relaxation and activity. We have made a survey, complete with sketches of potential renovations, and have calculated the costs of said renovations. As this portion of the magazine is being written, we are in the process of getting the form approved to be sent out. After the survey results are in, we will utilize them to write a proposal to the administration.

Looking forward to the final day of school, we are undoubtedly anxious about organizing its events (which will consist of a mixture of sports and non-physical games). Although nothing is guaranteed at this point (as we are still in the event's planning phase), we anticipate putting a spin on the generic execution of the activities for the last day of school. Much like the Assemblies and house competitions, we remain committed to evolving, to trying out new and unique event ideas, and hope that future iterations of the MSSG will lead with the same mindset.

It was an honor for us, the High School Student Government, to be able to serve you in this amazing school year. We would like to thank all of you for being a part of our success, for seeing our plans turn into events and for making this academic year one of the best years ever. We hope that you have enjoyed your high school experience here. Without your input and support, Concordian would not have been the Concordian we know today.

It is time for us to say goodbye to seniors, teachers, and students who are leaving this school. The time spent in Concordian is priceless and we will treasure every moment we spent together.

Although there were many Covid-19 restrictions, we still held various events and class competitions, including Spirit Week, an online scavenger hunt, and talent show. All of these would not have been successful without your participation and enthusiasm.

High School clubs have had a difficult year, with both internal and external Covid re-

strictions hampering their efforts to meet on campus for activities, and also plan and run events. Nonetheless, they have persevered, and numerous clubs have finished the year positively by holding events, and taking part in competitions. The following articles highlight just a few of the club activities that took place during the later part of second semester.

MYOB CLUB The “Mind Your Own Business” club opens a door of opportunities for those who are passionate about business and entrepreneurship. Our club provides members with webinars, camps, and competitions that introduce students to the basics of business.

Through these activities, our members gain valuable experiences, develop social connections, and learn skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork. One of the webinars we hosted was focused on the process of creating a business along with exploring how businesses operate in a professional way.

Members were able to gain an insight into being a good leader and grasp business concepts.

SASTE Project Our team found a common issue in our daily lives that ties with the global issue of food waste from the market research we conducted to investigate deeper into customer behavior in eating their meals. We had a sample of 30 high school students and their family members and conducted a survey with them in regards to how often they have leftover food in each meal. The results showed that up to 53% of the respondents frequently have leftover foods. 29% sometimes have leftover foods after each meal and only 18% rarely have leftovers. The data here clearly shows that we can take this opportunity to make use of the leftover foods, reduce food waste, and create joy during the creation of new recipes.

Through this we created a presentation introducing an application that provides a menu from leftovers ingredients from each user. Our team members created the app prototype to support our presentation. With teamwork we were able to win the greatest social award and believe that this business competition gave us opportunities to explore our ideas. Here is the business mission statement from the SASTE team: We aim to become a platform that will achieve "Making morality more convenient" for our conscious customers, with a vision statement of "We will be more than a platform that offers a convenient lifestyle, but a middle ground between comfort and sustainability". Therefore, we are here with a platform, “SASTE” that would transform leftover ingredients to win dishes emphasizing the global issue of food waste.

Secondly, one of our greatest achievements was collaborating with a professional organization called “Bangkok Entrepreneur Student Tryouts ”. Through this, we were able to extend our experiences through valuable webinars. For instance, tips and tricks on public speaking, the rising metaverse world, how to organize a business club, and much more. In addition, two of our club members also joined a business competition called “Bangkok Entrepreneurial Student Tryouts 2022” and won the award for greatest social impact!

We took the initiative by reaching out to influencers to increase brand exposure. This allowed us to gain a wider variety of customers and raise awareness of the club’s mission. As a result of club members' work and our marketing approach, we sold a total of 200 sweatshirts and pieces of jewelry. The funds will be used for our upcoming planting trips and future projects. In addition to that, we aim to support clean food consumption. Our club members have been harvesting plants on a regular basis and selling the organic batches to the school community. While we may not be able to sell our organic batches outside of school, we were able to promote clean food consumption within our school community. Even on a small scale, we are able to tackle environmental issues by lowering embedded water, lowering energy consumption, and promoting clean food consumption.

This year, our club also collaborated with Grade 11 for the stem initiative. We took part by showing our expertise regarding plant growth and collaborating in the development of design and product engineering of the plant watering system. As a grade, we designed an energy efficient and suitable watering system for plant growth. The product is currently in the planning stage.

Seed of Hope Seed of Hope is a club dedicated to taking action to address the current issues of climate change and deforestation. These challenges include rising sea levels, increasing frequency of heat waves and flooding, etc., which have taken the lives of 5 million people per year. The problem has been proven to have a negative impact on human livelihoods and is projected to have a more severe negative impact in the future.

For months, we have been looking into regions in Thailand that are very vulnerable to climate change hazards. We've discovered one, Lopburi, เขาพระยาเดินธง, where forests have been decimated and people are constantly suffering from flooding. Not a lot of foundations are doing anything to restore these specific areas, therefore, we see the chance of intervening.

We plan to take action by planting a total of 3,000 plants to create more carbon sinks to absorb greenhouse gas and pollution, and a forest barrier for flooding to protect these vulnerable people. We have raised approximately 150,000 baht to purchase the materials required for planting. We, as a club, sold terrariums, sweatshirts we designed, and cooperated with a local jewelry brand (Gail’s Jewelry) to release a Seed of Hope collection where all profits will go to the planting project. We marketed our product via Instagram (seedofhope.store), which is targeted towards young adults.

Our club has also been one of the two clubs from our school that was selected to compete for the IB Student Innovator platform and grant competition. We compete against IB school clubs from all over the world. During the process, we created presentations and pitched our ideas to the innovator. As a result, we were one of the semi-finalists amongst all the other IB students.

Another thing we did throughout the year was collaborate with MQDC. During the year, we received 1000 plants from MQDC that we will be planting in Lopburi during our upcoming trip. In return, we have been taking care of a total of 3,000 plants for them during three months. We consistently create schedules for members to water the total of 3,000 plants throughout the year.

In the future, we plan to continue our productivity in our school garden and promote clean organic food. To expand our impact outside of the school community, we will also reprogram the app “We Grow” and use the funds we collected to reengineer the application to better suit the new generation. Although the impact may only be on a local scale, it is the exhilarating feeling we gained from the contribution we made to the community.

Grade 11 Plant STEM Initiative This semester Grade 11 students embarked on a STEM Project. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM projects can be any sort of engagement but for our Grade 11 students, it meant a plant watering and irrigation system.

Students were sorted into expertise groups based on their knowledge or community involvement in the following fields: Science, Design, Engineering Club, Seed of Hope (planting charity), Math, Environmental Systems and Societies.

They identified the various challenges of building a water irrigation system in homeroom groups and came up with a series of conceptual designs which had to include all aspects of STEM. They later developed one feasible design idea and made a scale model with the intention to build a lifesize solution.

During the STEM project, the most valuable aspect of the experience was seeing many skills from different people and different subjects being used.

Rose G11I Planning, giving ideas, making sure ideas work, and thinking of materials to use, was most valuable.

Dash 11C Building the model was the best part of the STEM project because we had to adapt to problems on point. Even when we faced difficulties we collaborated and no one blamed others.

Jean 11S CAS and gaining knowledge was important to me because this particular STEM project will help my portfolio in the agriculture field.

Canducare Club Despite facing many challenges from strict Covid-19 regulations and the constraints of online learning in the beginning of the year, our club was able to persevere through these issues by adapting to the pandemic situation at school. At first, we had planned on continuing our fundraiser project from last year by initiating the Thai Music concert charity. Sadly, the strict social distancing and “bubble” guidelines prevented us from doing so. We had to turn to our Plan B, which was to write literature reviews on social, psychological, and mental issues. By doing so, we managed to meet our goal of raising awareness on health-related issues.

Initially, we gathered students from other schools who are also interested in doing so to collaborate with us. We became a CanDuCare community rather than just a club. We worked on four literature reviews throughout the whole year, on topics including beauty standards in the 21st century, the genotoxicity of burnt foods, the effect of social norms and taboos on gynecological health, and music therapy on mental health patients. Through writing these literature reviews, our members not only developed their research and critical thinking skills, but also their writing skills. Our work blocks were spent giving peer feedback, as we believe that learning from each other is the most efficient form of learning.

we believe, in accordance with the IB, which informs our lives, that a student must be well-rounded. Science starts with an s, as does service. With that in mind, and with a gradual easing of the Covid-related regulations, we decided to try to run the Thai Music concert again, this time successfully. The aims of the concert included spreading Thai culture in the Concordian community and raising funds for a hospital in Chacheongsao province. We coordinated with the Thai department to create a multicultural performance consisting of talented primary and secondary school students. From MC-ing to selling T-shirts, working backstage, and performing, our club members were all super busy with and dedicated to this charity concert. Now, at the end of this project, we are massively proud to announce that we have raised around 140,000 baht to purchase a dialysis machine for Wat Samatratanaran Hospital! We are really happy to be making a positive social impact and we hope that the machine can help patients improve their quality of life.

Finally, we would like to thank all our club members, Mr. Alessio (our club advisor), Kru A, and everyone who has helped us with the projects throughout the year! We hope that everyone enjoyed being a part of the Canducare community!

As

parents of 7-year-old twins, we consider the next steps into a new chapter of Don and Dol’s education as one of the most important moments in their lives. We seeked to find a trilingual international school where education outside the classroom is valued as much as the academic side while the Thai background of the students is not abandoned. Under the guidance of understanding faculty, we hope to see our children grow up to be adults who contribute to society. Then we came across Concordian International School that gave us a clearer view of our goals. The school vision statement immediately grasped our attention: "Concordians will be compassionate, moral and visionary leaders who strive for excellence". This remark assured us that the school will be able to shape Don and Dol to be transformational young leaders who make a difference in the world.

Education is the core value in school and we have been impressed by what Concordian provides. The IB curriculum offers a comprehensive but balanced range of academic and essential life skills. Additionally, the school establishes a positive learning environment where the open classroom system elevates a student's learning experience. With the encouragement from the teacher, students can freely voice their opinion and make comments on others’ ideas. An open discussion allows children to gain systematic thinking and obtain the best outcome from communicating together. Don and Dol have picked up the habit of being critical thinkers, they are able to organize their thoughts and solve problems. Their analytical skills are the result of conceptual learning from the IB. The teaching of 21st century skills in technology and basic coding is also covered. CIS prepare their students to keep up with the digital community from a young age. We are frequently amazed by what children have achieved when seeing their presentations for UOI class.

Most importantly, a child's well-being is placed at the highest priority for parents. We couldn’t be happier to see Don and Dol enjoy school where they are surrounded by loving friends, compassionate faculty and a suitable environment.

We would like to thank the school’s principal, teachers, staff, parents - all of whom have built the best version of Concordian International School. We believe these are indispensable components for creating knowledgeable and empathetic young leaders who project positive change in the world.

Bhume & Mook’s Vichitkulwongsa's family them to study at an international school with Chinese language but that we would like to maintain Thai as well. For us, it is very important for our children to know themselves that they are Thai but to have the education and training to communicate like a foreigner or like anyone in this world. When our children entered Concordian, we were not disappointed. We were looking for an international school that teaches children to be citizens of the world and to have international qualities but to also value Thai culture. So far we are happy with the quality and utmost care of Concordian International School.

What motivated you to start your own business?

I was starstruck by the power of solar since primary school days. Although I didn’t immediately become an entrepreneur after graduation, my time at The Boston Consulting Group enabled experience in multiple industries, and it is here that I learnt of the beautiful win-win-win nature of solar: I get to run a rewarding business, customers get to enjoy great savings on their electricity, and of course the environment wins as we move towards a truly renewable and sustainable source of energy. Once this light bulb switched on in my head, I knew it was the right next step. My goal is to make solar more accessible, especially for households and small businesses, hence our mission to “make renewable energy possible for all”.

What has been the most surprising thing about becoming an entrepreneur?

How liberating and fulfilling it feels. Partly because I get to do something with real and physical end product instead of just moving pixels on a screen, but mainly because subconsciously I know I am doing my small part in making a difference.

How did Concordian prepare you for your real-world life after school?

Concordian and the IB Programme push us to become independent, to think critically and take responsibility of our future, equipping us with the necessary skillset and mental capacity to face any challenges with humility, integrity, and compassion. And of course, I always wish I tried harder in Mandarin classes given all my suppliers are now from China!

What advice would you give to the graduating class of 2022?

“It’s always later than you think”: whilst ‘YOLO’ is a term used, abused, and firmly rooted in the last decade, I think this quote itself is pretty timeless, yet a good reminder of the passing of time. Although you guys are at a time where it seems like life has just truly begun, everything will fly by in the blink of an eye. Focus on what matters, and always make sure to give enough time of the day to your parents, families, and loved ones.

Supercharged Bringing EV Innovation to Thailand

I founded and I am now overseeing Future Charge Co., Ltd, a one-stop EV solution provider. We are Siemens Thailand's official partner in e-mobility and future grid components. Future Charge provides EV installation/management consultation, installation services, all types of EV-related hardware, and after-sales services.

What motivated you to start your own business?

When I studied in the UK, EV chargers and cars were very common. Coming back to Thailand, I realized that there is a huge opportunity in this industry since it is yet to mature. Having an engineering background also helped me a lot in the technical part of the business.

What has been the most surprising thing about becoming an entrepreneur?

Being an entrepreneur means you must understand every part of your business. I had to learn how to do corporate accounting, stock keeping, taxes, marketing, etc. It was very challenging but necessary in order to manage each part of the business efficiently.

How did Concordian prepare you for your real-world life after school?

Concordian has taught me how to manage my time efficiently, it is very important that you work smart because being a business owner means you will have to deal with so many tasks in a day. Knowing Mandarin has also helped me in communicating with customers and suppliers from China.

What advice would you give to the graduating class of 2022?

Don’t be afraid to try or start something new.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is the only way to make yourself grow.
