MYP Personal Project Exhibition, the culminating showcase of months of independent inquiry, creativity, perseverance, and reflection. Across the room, 57 students stood beside the products they had created, ready to share not only what they had made, but what they had learned along the way.

The room looked beautiful, the displays were thoughtful, and the range of projects was remarkable. Students presented creative designs, technical builds, performances, research-based products, personal challenges, and projects connected to passions they had carried for years. Yet what made the exhibition most impressive was not simply the quality of the products. It was the confidence, maturity, and ownership with which students spoke about their process.

From the outside, it can seem as though everything simply comes together on exhibition day. Those who work closely with the Personal Project know that this is never the case. Behind every polished display was a much longer journey: early uncertainty, changing ideas, revised plans, difficult decisions, feedback, persistence, and growth. For a Grade 10 student to work independently toward a personal goal over many months is not easy. It requires courage, organization, resilience, and a willingness to keep going when the project becomes difficult.

That is what made the day so meaningful. Students explained their choices, reflected on challenges, answered questions, and communicated their learning to parents, teachers, peers, and visitors. They did so with confidence and professionalism, but also with something more important: a sense that the work truly belonged to them.

This year’s cohort also achieved excellent report results, reflecting the strength of their planning, ATL skill application, reflection, and communication. Those scores are worth celebrating, but the impact of the Personal Project reaches beyond marks. It could be seen in the way students stood taller beside their work and spoke with pride about a process they had carried from beginning to end.

Each year, Concordian students inherit a high standard from the cohorts before them. This year’s Grade 10 students met that standard beautifully and added to it. With 58 students each pursuing an independent goal, the success of the exhibition was not automatic. It was the result of months of effort from students who cared, worked hard, and rose to the occasion.

The exhibition reminded us why the Personal Project is such a powerful part of the MYP. It gives students a rare opportunity to pursue something personal, take ownership of their learning, and experience the satisfaction of seeing a long-term process through to completion. To our Grade 10 students: I hope you remember this day not only as the day you presented your product, but as the day you realized how much you had grown.

The success of the exhibition was also made possible by the care and support of many people across the school community.

A special thanks goes to the IT, Events, and Maintenance teams for the behind-the-scenes work that made the space look beautiful and run so smoothly.

We are also grateful to our Head of School, Head of Secondary, Secondary Principals, MYP Coordinator, Dean of Students, supervisors, examiners, and all the teachers who brought classes from Grades 5 to 12 to view the projects, helping make the exhibition feel like a true community event. The presence of visiting professors and our guests from Keystone Academy in Beijing made the day even more special.

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Khun Varnnee, whose commitment to the students was extraordinary. She spent hours in P501, moving from table to table and speaking in depth with every student in the room. It was a remarkable gesture of care and encouragement, and one the students will not forget.

The March exhibition was a celebration of products, but more importantly, it was a celebration of process, growth, independence, and student voice. I am tremendously proud of every student who took part.
