Dating back to the year 1640, The Stag’s Head is a Grade II listed building adorned atop by its traditional thatched roof.

Unfortunately, the building was extensively damaged by a fire which tore through its beautiful thatched roof and pub below, so experts were called in to repair the structure.

Thatching is the oldest form of roofing, it has been around for 10,000 years and it still exists and is still used on many buildings today, from commercial through to residential. To rebuild the pub, the underlying structure constructed with timber rafters and battens was fitted first. The thatcher then fastened layers of thatch to the battens and rafters.

The pubs trade area was also restored and the walls are once again adorned with framed pictures of both past and present, with a history lesson of the pub, the village, and the people of Wellesbourne.
