Youth Camp is Back!

June 19–23, 2023

Your child will love all the fun-filled traditions of overnight CAMP! Campers will enjoy Canoeing, Crawdad Fishing, Hiking, Archery, Volleyball, Swimming, Beach Fun at Lake Tahoe, Skits, Arts & Crafts, Tye Dying Shirts, and Campfires with S’mores. Roundtrip bus transportation from Concord to South Lake Tahoe included. COVID-19 policies will be announced in early 2023.

Designed for the young learner! Your child will spend an unforgettable summer expanding their imagination. Each 2-week session is designed around different themes filled with a variety of activities from cooking, arts and crafts, water play and outdoor fun! No camp on July 4, activities subject to change based on staff discretion.

Camps

Backyard Explorers

entering Kindergarten-5 thgrade

Spice up your child's summer and experience the camp of a lifetime with Backyard Explorers! Grow, explore, play, and connect with nature in Concord's own Markham Nature Park. Your child will make new friends and have fun while supervised by highly trained staff. Daily camp activities include a variety of arts and crafts, games, crawdad fishing, nature walks, and more! Campers take walking field trips weekly to swim at Concord Community Pool and to play on the playground in Concord Community Park. Once a week, campers will go on a field trip to an exciting place in the Bay Area including the Oakland Zoo, Antioch Water Park, and the California Academy of Sciences. Field trip locations are subject to change. No camp on July 4.

East Bay Explorers

entering 6th -8th grade

Young teens experience the hottest summer at East Bay Explorers. Each week campers will visit Concord Community Pool and local Bay Area hot spots including Hurricane Harbor, rock climbing, an A’s baseball game and much more! Participate in sports, painting, tie dye, and in the many STEAM projects that trained and experienced counselors provide. Sign up for a five day or three day option! Field trips are subject to change. No camp on July 4.

Counselor in Training

Do you love the outdoors and want to be a day camp counselor? This 2-week program provides valuable job training and leadership skills. Work side-by-side with experienced Backyard Explorer's day camp counselors to teach art, games, and plan a special event. You'll also learn the basics of CPR & First Aid training. No camp July 4.

Artic Adventure Spanish Camp

Ages: 3.5-7

Campers will have a great experience as they learn and practice Spanish through music, role play, scavenger hunts, bingo walks, and more. Campers will explore the amazing wildlife of the Artic. Their imagination will take them down to the ice and discover new adventures.

Cartoon Café

Ages: 6-12

Step inside the Cartoon Café and create some of the dishes your favorite characters love. We will recreate Taco Pie from Aqua Teen, Little Muriel's Macaroni and Cheese from Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Captain Crunch Casserole from Futurama just to name a few. $60 material fee due to instructor on the first day.

Mission ImPIZZAble

Ages: 6-12

Test your pizza prowess in this cheesy class! We will roll, sauce, and grate our way through both sweet and savory pizza inspired delights. Classic Pepperoni and Cheese, Spaghetti Pizza, Crunchy Quesadilla Pizza, S'more's Deep Dish Dessert Pizza and so much more. Bring your appetite! $60 material fee due to the instructor on the first day of camp. No class on June 15.

All American Road Trip

Ages: 6-12

Inspired by Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, your child will travel the US on a foodie adventure. It does not get better than Inside-Out Grilled Cheese from Utah, Granny's Giant Cream Puffs from Colorado, or Bacon-inthe-Batter Buttermilk Waffles from California. Regional favorites from across the US will delight your child's taste buds. $60 material fee due to instructor on the first day of camp.

Bake Like a Boss

Ages: 6-12

Baking Boot Camp for your aspiring young Pastry Chef. We will learn basic methods like creaming, folding, and whipping to create cupcakes, frostings, cookies and other sweet treats. If your child has an interest in baking this is the camp for them! $70 material fee due to the instructor on the first day.

The Breakfast Club

Ages: 6-12

Your child will learn how to master the morning meal in the Breakfast Club. We will cook classics like the Monte Cristo and Joe's Scramble to sweet favorites like Cinnamon Swirl French Toast and Pancakes. This camp is sure to start their day off right! Continental Cuisine

Ages: 6-12

Delicious traditional recipes from around the world will be cooked in this class. Our global adventure will begin in Europe with Pierogis from Poland, stop in Peru for Alfajore cookies, and finish up in North America with Mollete from Mexico with so many other stops on the way. We will learn the history behind the dishes we create and children will be encouraged to share about the foods native to their family heritage. $60 material fee due to instructor on the first day.

Bring Lego worlds to life! We provide Legos, you provide your imagination. From creating and drawing a wide array of fun characters, to telling a compelling tale with a strong beginning, middle, and end every student will be guided through the process of making their very own comic book from start to finish. $25 material fee due the first day of class to the instructor. Love the Nightmare Before Christmas, Wallace and Gromit, or Boxtrolls? Then join us to create your own claymation movie! We're making your dreams come true in our no-experience-necessary music camp! Students take our stage and are introduced to guitar, piano, drums, bass, keyboard, and vocals. Musicians learn songwriting and write an original song, draw their own concert poster and unique band logo, perform in their own band, and more! $25 material due on the first day to instructor.

This camp is inspired by the music and choreography of the smash hit Broadway Musical! All Sorts of Sports Junior Club

Ages: 4-6

This program gives children a fun, active & educational experience tailored to the abilities of their age group. Your child will have a blast learning motor skills and coordination while playing games with the other children that may include: baseball, soccer, flag football, capture the flag, relay & obstacle races and a whole lot more. Featuring structured simple activities, individual and team-building challenges along with small sided competitions to develop and engage small athletes. **In order to keep the program enjoyable for all campers, sports played are up to staff discretion and may be changed due to the overall wants & needs of the group or for safety reasons.

The All Sorts of Sports coed program by National Academy of Athletics is packed with fun! Whether your child is a beginner or a more experienced player, this multi-sport camp is a perfect place for kids to be introduced to the world of sports, teamwork and athletics! Games we play include, basketball, dodgeball, soccer, kickball, and football, capture the flag, ultimate Frisbee & obstacle races and a whole lot more. Basketball Handling & Shooting Camp

This 5 day coed basketball camp is designed to make kids more confident with basketball. Ball handling drills, shooting fundamentals, passing, team concepts. Many skill based instructional programs will be combined with games & other small sided competitions. Come join our experienced staff & walk away a better player! This camp focuses on basic soccer skills and team concepts in a fun and nurturing atmosphere. We dedicate the morning session to playful games that teach all the fundamentals of soccer. World Cup Soccer: Development Academy

Most campers at our Development Academy have been playing soccer for 2-3 years or more. The camp format dedicates the morning session to technique training and developing skills that will help players perform at the next level. Our coaches are well trained and will provide a camp that is fun and challenging at every level of play.

In this camp, our coaches evaluate the campers on the first day of camp and group them according to their age and skill level. We create game situations that will allow campers to improve their skills while having a lot of fun. Our coaches are well trained and will provide a camp that is fun and challenging at every level of play.

Splash Camp Ages: 8-14

Dive into a week of fun at the pool with our Summer Splash Camp. The Camp combines our popular Junior Lifeguard training program with pre-competitive swim work, water-based activities & games and outdoor recreational activities. Participants must be able to swim, unassisted, 25 yards each of freestyle (face in the water with rhythmic breathing) and backstroke. Participants will need to bring: swimsuit, towel, goggles, change of clothes, lunch & snack, water bottle & sunscreen.

Junior Tennis Camps are perfect for children interested in an active sport! The game with the funny name is the fastest growing sport in the US and a great way to introduce your child to fun, athletic competition. Pickleball is the ideal first sport for kids. This program emphasizes good sportsmanship and proper pickleball etiquette in a fun and lightly competitive environment. Paddles and balls will be provided. Try our classes. If, after attending the first class, you are not happy with the quality of the program, call us right away. Tell us what was wrong so we can make it right. If you call before the second class we will give you a full refund or credit. There are no refunds for non-attendance, one-day workshops, trips or materials fees.

Refunds due to class cancellations can take up to 2 to 4 weeks to process. A credit left on a customer’s account will expire 12 months after the date of issuance.

Withdrawals and Transfers

If you wish to drop or transfer to another session, call us at least five full working days before the start date for a refund or credit. $5.00 Withdrawal Fee applies to all cancellations. Please note: Programs with different cancellation fees are noted and only the higher fee applies, not both. No refunds for non-attendance, one-day workshops, trips or materials fees.

WAIVER AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY / ASSUMPTION OF RISK

I, the undersigned, wish to participate in one or more activities (hereinafter collectively referred to as “the Activity”) conducted in collaboration with the City of Concord’s Parks & Recreation Department. I am aware that serious accidents and injuries occasionally occur during recreational pursuits such as the Activity. In consideration of my participation in the Activity, I knowingly and voluntarily assume all risks arising therefrom, and on behalf of myself, my heirs and assignees release the City of Concord, its officers, agents, employees and volunteers from any and all claims, liens, damages, lawsuits, or liability for property damage, injury or death, resulting from, arising out of, or in any way connected with my participation in the Activity. I agree and acknowledge that this Waiver and Release From Liability/Assumption of Risk shall apply even in the event that I suffer death, personal injury, or property damage as the result of passive or active negligence on the part of the City of Concord, its officers, agents, employees, or volunteers of the City (with the exception of sole, active negligence, or willful misconduct). In the event that the individual participating in the Activity is a minor, I certify that I am his/her parent or legal guardian and I give my permission for him/her to participate in the Activity. I understand my signature is a legal and binding signature and will be considered original if received by fax.

USE OF PARTICIPANT PHOTOGRAPHS/VIDEO

In addition to the forgoing, I give consent to Concord Parks & Recreation Department or any other media agency authorized by the City of Concord to photograph or video me (or the minor on whose behalf I am signing this waiver), and to use such photographs/video footage in brochures, newspapers, social media, or other forms of media describing City of Concord activities. I agree to advise the City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department in writing if I do not agree to the forgoing.

COVID-19/CORONAVIRUS LIABILITY WAIVER AND RELEASE, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT

On behalf of myself and/or my son, daughter, or person for whom I serve as legal guardian (the “Participant”), I acknowledge with my signature that the Participant wishes to participate in a City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department activity or program (“activities or programs”).

I understand that by participating in City of Concord activities and programs there is an inherent risk of potential exposure to infectious diseases, including but not limited to COVID-19/Coronavirus. The risk of potential exposure cannot be eliminated. On behalf of myself, the Participant, my heirs and dependents, personal representatives, assigns and insurers, I now voluntarily and knowingly release and hold harmless the City of Concord, its officers, employees, volunteers, agents, successors in interest, insurers, contractors, suppliers, vendors, assigns, and any persons or entities with which/whom the City is affiliated (hereinafter collectively referred to as the “City”), from any and all liability, lawsuits, or claims for injuries, death, or property damage resulting from, arising out of, or in any way connected with Participant’s participation in the activities and programs (collectively “Claims”), including but not limited to Claims arising out of or in any way related to any emergency medical care administered, any illness or infection or disease, and COVID-19 or Coronavirus related health issue or exposure. This waiver and release shall apply even in the event that such personal injury, death, or property damage is caused or contributed to in whole or part through the passive or active negligence of the City (with the exception of sole, active negligence).

I agree to defend, hold harmless, and indemnify the City from and against any and all Claims (including attorney’s fees) arising out of, or in any way related to Participant’s participation in the activities and programs, any actual or alleged negligence of myself or Participant, any emergency medical care administered, any illness or infection or disease, and/or COVID-19 or Coronavirus related health issue or exposure.

I/WE HAVE READ THIS WAIVER AND RELEASE IN ITS ENTIRETY. I/WE FULLY UNDERSTAND IT, AND RECOGNIZE THAT THIS WAIVER AND RELEASE IS A LEGALLY BINDING DOCUMENT.
