FEBRUARY In this second edition of the newsletter of this Embassy, we say goodbye to Mexico's friend, CEO Patrick Andrews. We wish him the best!

Within the framework of the Feminist Foreign Policy promoted by the Government of Mexico, we share information about the Generation Equality Forum.

Also, throughout the month, we commemorate the 53rd Anniversary of The Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean.

53RD ANNIVERSARY OF THE TREATY OF TLATELOLCO This year, we commemorate the 53rd Anniversary of The Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean, better known as the Treaty of Tlatelolco, in response to one of the most intricate episodes of the twentieth century: the Cold War (“the missile crisis”) which, in 1962, made the threat of a possible confrontation, between United States and the Soviet Union, tangible.

In this context, at the initiative of Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, and Ecuador announced, in 1963, their intention to turn Latin America into a zone free of nuclear weapons. Details: https://bit.ly/3ceahmo

GENERATION EQUALITY FORUM With the presence of members of the diplomatic corps in Mexico and international agencies, the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE), the National Women's Institute (INMUJERES), UN Women Mexico and the Embassy of France in Mexico, presented the national strategy of the "Generation Equality Forum" in Mexico. This Forum is a process that will begin in Mexico on May 7 and 8, 2020. It will culminate in Paris from July 7 to 10 of the same year with a Global Forum

FAREWELL CEO PATRICK ANDREWS As part of the activities of the Office of the Dean, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of International Organizations in Belize bade farewell on February 6 to CEO Patrick Andrews, who stood out for his extensive and successful career that spanned more than 40 years in the public and private sectors.

Back in 2014, the UK government, through Queen Elizabeth II, honored him as a Member of the British Empire for his services to the community.

UPCOMING CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

CEO Andrews is considered a friend of Mexico for his invaluable support throughout his tenure at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of this country.

Mexico will be represented at the tenth edition of the STREET ART FESTIVAL in downtown Belize City, on February 29 from noon to 2:00 p.m.

Giovanni Guerrero is a multidisciplinary artist, originally from Michoacán. His work shows the roots of his indigenous identity, thus showing Mexican people's worldview.

Guerrero dedicates a large part of his work to collaborate closely with the youth, collectives, other artists, and movements that seek social justice.
