2011 Alum Builds the

NEW COMPTON HIGH

SCHOOL

Did you know that Compton residents are involved and integral in the construction of the new Compton High School? One example is Compton local and 2011 Compton High School graduate Jave Jones. He currently works on the crew of 150 people who are at the construction site every day, building the new Compton High School campus that will be opened in 2025.

ONES recently started working as an Ironworker and is excited about the role he’s playing to build the new campus structures. His duties on the job site vary from day to day and he has been busy with numerous tasks constructing the main school building.

“As far as what I'm doing to build Compton High School, I’m cutting, fabricating steel, hanging steel, bolting and connecting steel, tightening them down, and cutting them off,” said Jones. “I’m making sure everything is leveled and sitting right before we weld them together. I'm doing what-

ever I'm asked to do to make sure that this comes out to be a masterpiece.”

Growing up in the city of Compton, Jones attended Bursch Elementary School, moved on to Enterprise Middle School, and then went to Compton High School. At Compton High School, he was an active athlete

and played football for four years. He was also on the basketball team and track team for two years.

After graduation, Jones attended Los Angeles Harbor College for a year, and then worked a few different professions. “I had several jobs before n School, see page 8

Detectives make arrest in 2001 Compton cold case double murder On Aug. 8, 2001, a neighborhood experienced five separate drive-by in the Compton area experienced five separate drive-by shootings that tragically resulted in the unintended double murder of twoyear-old Kali Murphy and her 25-year-old father, Stephen Murphy. These shootings appeared to be acts of retaliation for a gang murder that occurred the previous night.

The double murder of Stephen and Kali Murphy was the result of the third shooting that night, which occurred at 13130 Willowbrook Ave. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to their head and were pronounced deceased at the location by rescue personnel.

Investigators believed the double murder of Stephen and Kali Murphy was committed by a local black gang, and witnesses from that fateful night provided descriptions of two male black suspects involved. n Cold Case, see page 8

City honors Imani Speed City Compton Track Club for its success

By Dennis J. Freeman I The Bulletin COMPTON - Getting to the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships is no small feat. For Steve Todd and the Imani Speed City Compton Track Club, it’s become a habit.

It’s a pretty good one at that.

For 27 years, the Imani Speed City Compton Track Club, based in the city of Compton, has made its way to the highest pillars in track and field to compete at the national meet. Todd is the man responsible for guiding the Imani Speed City Compton Track

Club to all its glory.

This past summer, Todd took 47 of his kids from the Imani Speed City Compton Track Club with him to nationals. They came back with Photo by Dennis j. Freeman 24 medals. Due to the track Members of the Imani Track Club hold up certificates club’s remarkable run, the City of recognition for their accomplishments during a of Compton went out of its way ceremony held at Dollarhide Community Center on n Track Club, see page 6 Nov. 4, 2023.

NAACP California-Hawaii State Conference Hosts 36th Annual State Convention Antonio Ray Harvey | California Black Media The NAACP California Hawaii State Conference (Cal-Hi NAACP) held its 36th annual State Convention at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront Hotel.

T

HE convention featured a series of workshops and discussions organized to promote solutions for some of the most pressing issues impacting Black communities in California and Hawaii. The focus was on a range of topics, including next-generation leadership, environmental justice, housing, veteran’s affairs, labor, education, and more.

“This is when we bring our branches to get them trained up and ready to go back into their communities ready to fight for what we’re fighting,” said NAACP Cal-Hi President Rick Callender. “What we are fighting, we’re fighting for criminal justice, environmental justice, equity in education, equity in the legislation and trying to move the NAACP’s agenda forward.”

This year’s event, themed “This Is How We Thrive,” was held from Oct. 27 to 29.

Around 500 NAACP Cal-Hi leaders, delegates, elected officials, activists, organizers, faith leaders, and entertainers from across the state and Hawaii participated in the festivities.

tendees at the Women In the NAACP Labor Luncheon on Oct. 28 that the NAACP has been a beacon of light ensuring Black Americans are granted their constitutional rights.

Since Feb. 12, 1909, the NAACP has advocated, agitated, and litigated for civil rights.

Its legacy is built on a foundation of grassroots activism by the biggest civil rights pioneers of the 20th century and is sustained by 21st century activists.

“We are resiliently surviving the afterlife of chattel slavery. In fact, as African Americans we have been confronting these lingering badges and incidents of slavery without any signifi-

cant government aid or private actions. We’ve been doing it on our own and the NAACP is a testament of that,” Callender said during the luncheon.

Several influential leaders -- U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee (DCA-12), Assemblymember Mia Bonta (D-Alameda), Exodie C. Roe III (General Services Administration, Washington D.C.), NAACP Senior Vice President of Communications Trovon C. Williams -- spoke at the convention.

NAACP Cal-Hi’s Youth and College Division hosted multiple workshops, including a “Stop the Hate Mock Trial,” and another titled “Youth Fo-

cused Dinner, Juvenile Justice Workshop, and Health Forum.”

On Oct. 27, NAACP CalHi presented an exclusive preview of “The Space Race,” a National Geographic documentary that weaves together stories of Black astronauts seeking to break the bonds of social injustice in their quest to reach for the stars.

On the evening of Oct. 28, Callender joined Dr. Hazel N. Dukes for a fireside chat at the President’s Awards Dinner. Earlier, on the afternoon of Oct. 27, a special “Hats Off Award” ceremony was held honoring Alice Huffman, President Emeritus of the NAACP Cal-HI State Conference, at the WIN Luncheon.

Officials are looking into Compton fatal drive-by shooting Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a male adult in the city of Compton.

Deputies from Compton Sheriff’s Station responded to the intersection of McMillan Street and Lime Avenue in the city of Compton regarding a gunshot victim call for service.

The incident occurred on

Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they located the victim, a Black male, 23 years of age, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso. The victim was located in the alley south of McMillan Street, west of Lime Avenue. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded and treated the victim. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was

pronounced dead at the scene.

Further south in the alley, deputies discovered a second victim, a Black male, 22 years of age, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper torso. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for his gunshot wound and is currently in stable condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed the shooting appear to be gang-related. Both victims

were on foot during this driveby shooting.

There is no suspect or suspect vehicle information available at this time.

The investigation is ongoing, and currently, there is no additional information available. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 8905500.

Obituary: Pasadena Businessman and News Publisher Joe C. Hopkins Remembered for His Courage and Leadership Solomon O. Smith | California Black Media Last week, the Pasadena community lost a towering symbol of leadership and courage, Joe C. Hopkins. A lawyer, activist, publisher, husband and father, Hopkins passed away on Oct. 31 after decades of dedicated service to the community.

Hopkins was a prominent presence in “Dena,” the local nickname for the Pasadena/Altadena area. A resident for over 40 years, Hopkins, and his wife Ruthie, are deeply embedded in their local community, establishing meaningful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds. Their influence extended beyond Pasadena, inspiring and shaping California’s Black political and social circles in numerous ways.

Hopkins was born in Altus, Oklahoma. He relocated to California in 1967, settling in Altadena in 1969. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Glendale University College of Law and in 1982 he began his legal practice which he later moved to Pasadena in 1986.

Hopkins was a man of conviction who fearlessly defended what he believed in. It was his strength of character and clarity

of perspective that made him an effective leader.

Hopkins once held the position of president of the West Coast Black Publishers Association and was the president emeritus of the San Gabriel Valley Black Business Association.

He founded the Pasadena/Altadena Black Lawyers Association and headed the Pasadena Black Expo from 1990-1992. He started the Pasadena/Altadena Journal, the first and only Black publication in “the Valley,” a region located north of Los Angeles that spans several other San Fernando Valley cities, including Burbank, Studio City, Glendale and Sherman Oaks.

Hopkins’ accomplishments have been acknowledged numerous times: He received the Appreciation for Outstanding Contributions in Business from the Altadena NAACP Branch in 1990, the Citizen of the Year Award from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity in 1992 and served as the Community Grand Marshall of the Pasadena Black History Parade in 2000. In 2006, he was awarded a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congressman Adam B. Schiff (D-CA-30). Additionally, he has been honored with

Attorney Joe C. Hopkins was a pillar in the Black media and was co-owner of the Pasadena /San Gabriel Valley Journal. numerous special recognitions from various city, state and national organizations.

In 2018, Hopkins and his wife were honored as civil rights pioneers and “Unsung Heroes” by the California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC). The award was presented by Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena).

In a statement following Hopkins’ passing, Holden said, “My life and the lives of

many other people are forever changed by the impact of Joe Hopkins and his wife Ruthie. I will miss Joe’s fearless leadership and unrelenting dedication to community.”

Hopkins’ personal achievements were substantial, and their enduring impact makes his loss deeply felt by the greater Pasadena community.

Sen. Anthony Portantino (D-Burbank) recalls being inspired by Hopkins’ writing in his book, “I will not Apologize,” a collection of his opinion pieces many consider to be the core of his beliefs.

After reading his book Portantino had to meet the man behind the “no nonsense” words.

Hopkins was not easily impressed and quizzed Portantino about whether he read his book.

They bonded over that conversation and their mutual desire to create a bridge between higher education in California and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Together, they encouraged leaders and educators from UCLA to establish the Summer Institute for Emerging Managers and Leaders in 2012. The program’s purpose is to “increase the diversity of graduate students enrolled in

the UC business schools.

The program continues to diversify leadership in California graduate schools.

“We connected on a friendship level and continued to talk policy and as the world changed, we kept talking to each other,” said Portantino. “The community has lost a special person, a great dad and a tremendous leader.”

Condolences have been extended to the family from the mayor of Pasadena, Victor Gordo, and other community leaders offering comfort during their time of bereavement.

Hopkins’ son, Yusef Olaitan-Hopkins, remembers his father as more than a political leader, entrepreneur or civil rights leader. He cherishes intimate memories of his father as a caring parent, selflessly dedicated to his family and community.

According to Olaitan-Hopkins, the family is overwhelmed by the community’s expression of sympathy.

Hopkins, according to his son, was always ready to defend others with his knowledge of the law, leadership or his presence.

They highlighted how record financial help — through enhanced federal premium support and a new program in California that will reduce out-of-pocket costs for over 650,000 consumers — is bridging the gap between uninsured Californians and access to affordable coverage and quality care.

“2024 will be a historic year for health care coverage in California,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom. “Here in the Golden State, we are removing barriers and increasing access as we work to create a healthier California for all.”

The event marked the start of the 11th year of Covered California’s offering affordable, name-brand health care coverage and financial help to Californians under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Open enrollment, which began today and runs through Jan. 31, 2024, is the time of year when Californians can sign up for health insurance or make

Covered California is entering this openenrollment period with over 1.6 million Californians enrolled in coverage.

“There has never been more financial assistance available to help Californians pay for health care through Covered California than there will be in 2024,” said Jessica Altman. “We want every uninsured Californian to know that affordable health care coverage is available and within closer reach than ever before.”

Open enrollment begins with a record-low uninsured rate of 6.5 percent among Californians, according to federal data. Since Covered California’s first openenrollment period in 2013, California’s uninsured rate has fallen from 17.2 percent to 6.5 percent in 2022, which is the largest percentage point drop for any state in the nation over this time.

Next year will bring a significant expansion in health coverage eligibility, as all low-income Californians will be able to enroll in Medi-Cal regardless of their immigration status, as part of Gov. Newsom’s promise of universal access to health care coverage. While those who are not lawfully present do not qualify for a health plan through Covered

California due to federal regulations, thanks to a continued partnership with the California Department of Health Care Services, which oversees Medi-Cal, Californians can go to CoveredCA.com or visit a certified enroller to find out more about what coverage they may be eligible for and apply.

While the opportunity to get more Californians covered is tremendous, the latest data from the California Simulation of Insurance Markets (CalSIM), a model created by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, shows that significant gaps remain between those with and without insurance.

CalSIM estimates that there are over 1.3 million uninsured Californians who either qualify for subsidies through Covered California (606,000) or are eligible for Medi-Cal coverage (714,000).

Nearly 500,000 of those eligible for coverage reside in Southern California.

Covered California has enrollment assistance available in more than 50 languages for those eligible in Los Angeles County, Orange County, or the Inland Empire.

Bridging the Gap The theme for this year’s campaign, “Bridging the Gap,” emphasizes the role Covered California plays in connecting uninsured Californians with health ins­ urance. Covered California is currently focused on serving as a bridge for those who are no longer eligible for MediCal or lost their employerbased coverage.

Lynwood Unified receives $200K DOJ grant to prevent tobacco use among youth Lynwood Unified School District is among 37 local government agencies to receive a grant from the California Department of Justice Tobacco Grant Program as part of the state’s widespread efforts to reduce the illegal sale of tobacco products to minors.

HE $201,285 in funds – authorized under the California Healthcare, Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016 (Prop. 56) – will go toward establishing a set of goals and timelines centered on enhancing resources for students via studentled awareness campaigns, youth outreach, prevention programs and more.

“The Tobacco Program

grant is a significant step forward for our District and reinforces our commitment to fostering secure and healthy learning environments for our students,” Board President Alfonso Morales, Esq. said. “It will allow us to strengthen our resources for the betterment of our community and will aid us in continuing our mission of relieving barriers to success for all of our students.”

The DOJ received an overwhelming $48 million in grant requests with only $21 million being available statewide for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The 37 awardees include law enforcement organizations, public health departments, school districts and other local government agencies that collectively demonstrate the mission of the Tobacco Grant program

Lynwood Unified students pledge to be drug-free as part of Red Ribbon Week, which takes place Oct. 23-31 every year to raise awareness about the dangers of drug and tobacco use. and its approach toward enhancing the welfare of local communities.

In June 2020, for instance, the District joined school districts across the nation in filing a class action lawsuit against JUUL Labs Inc. for its role in creating a school vaping crisis and e-cigarette

epidemic resurgence in youth nicotine addiction that impedes the learning environments in schools across California. Earlier this month, Lynwood Unified was awarded a $424,500 settlement.

“Our gratitude goes to the Attorney General and

the Department of Justice for providing us with these funds for our community,” Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D. said.

“The Tobacco Program grant underscores the District's unwavering commitment to student welfare and academic excellence and emphasizes our mission to provide a nurturing and secure environment in which students can thrive and reach their full potential.”

The Tobacco Grant serves as an addition to the District’s ongoing efforts in cultivating a proper learning environment for students, including Red Ribbon Week activities held in October, engaging workshops, and counseling resources that bring awareness to substance abuse and provide those struggling with the necessary tools to thrive.

Students open up about bullying

By Danielle ParenteauDecker I used to be called a “nerd” in elementary school because my mom wanted to get me glasses. My friends were used to seeing me without them, so after I got the glasses, they made fun of me, saying stuff like, “Can you see the future?” or just “four eyes.” I’m used to the name-calling and don’t care as long as they’re just joking around and don’t really mean it.

(The best way to deal with a bully) is to fight back.

It’s called self-defense. The kid who started it has to get a big suspension to make him realize that picking on anyone isn’t right. I’m saying “self-defense” because you can’t let someone mess with you. If the principal does nothing, then you’re going to have to do something about it.

(I see bullying) kind of in person and not really online.

language, sounding out words sounded different from the spelling. So some of my classmates started to taunt, mock, belittle me.

When I told my teacher about the bullying, she told me to get over it. From then on, throughout elementary, I

felt self-conscious.

From my experience, coming to the school is not the best option. Sure, your parents may file a complaint, but the school often ignores it. The best way to deal with the bully is to confront the parent. Often, I’ve noticed that a bully’s parent is never quite aware of their child’s torment. Either that or their parents don’t care about them. Or just move schools if none of the options work.

I have witnessed online and in-person bullying, and both can do critical damage.

The only distinct difference between the two is that online bullies are more likely to be cowards. Physical bullying is mentally exhausting and terrifying. People are more likely to ignore you when are being bullied in fear of being bullied. You’re basically on your own with no one to turn to when it gets violent.

I Don’t Believe in Superstition…But Dr. James L. Snyder I don’t believe in any of the superstitious nonsense that seems to be going around these days. Some people have a fear of numbers like 13 and 666. What in the world does a number have to do with anything?

OT being superstitious, there are times I am slightly confused about life.

Something happens that I don’t feel I’m in charge of. I won’t go to the superstitious side of the road because I don’t believe in that. But sometimes, things happen that I really can’t explain.

For example, the other morning, The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage entered the living room, where I was sitting on my easy chair drinking coffee. With a huge smile, she said, “I got you an Apple Fritter for this morning.” And

she gave it to me, smiled at me, and then walked away.

The following day, I got up and got my coffee, went out to my easy chair in the living room, and started to sip it very carefully.

As I was getting situated, The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage walked in, and I saw in her hand another Apple Fritter. “Here, my dear, is an Apple Fritter. I think you’ll enjoy this today.”

I possibly could process yesterday’s Apple Fritter, but two days in a row was beyond my processing ability. Something is going on, and I have

no idea what it is. Being that as it is, I enjoyed that Apple Fritter to the last delicious crumb.

The day went normal, and she never mentioned the Apple Fritter.

By the time we came to go to bed, nothing was said concerning that. It was just a coincidence, and I could not explain it satisfactorily.

Again, I got up the following day, went and got my coffee, and sat in my easy chair.

In a few moments, in walks The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage, and in her hand is another Apple Fritter.

“Here’s an Apple Fritter

for you this morning. I think you’ll enjoy it today.” She smiled at me, turned around, and returned to the kitchen.

I held that Apple Fritter in my hand for a few moments, basking in its deliciousness, and then began to eat it slowly and enjoyably.

Three Apple Fritters in a row has to be some record.

It’s not that I can’t handle an Apple Fritter because I can.

It’s the fact that someone is bringing these Apple Fritters to me who does not like Apple Fritters. Something is happening behind the scenes, and I’m anxious to find out.

In the first speech, he said he was accepting the award on behalf of the Civil Rights Movement, though he noted it might seem strange to give this prize to a movement still deeply in the midst of struggle. But Dr. King believed it recognized a shared vision of

the ultimate end: “Sooner or later all the people of the world will have to discover a way to live together in peace, and thereby transform this pending cosmic elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood.”

Dr. King said he had both “an abiding faith in America” and “an audacious faith in the future of mankind” to get there: “I refuse to accept despair as the final response to the ambiguities of history. I refuse to accept the idea that the ‘isness’ of man’s present nature makes him morally incapable of reaching up for the eternal ‘oughtness’ that forever confronts him. I refuse to accept the idea that man is

mere flotsam and jetsam in the river of life, unable to influence the unfolding events which surround him. I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.” He continued: “I believe that even amid today’s mortar bursts and whining bullets, there is still hope for a brighter tomorrow . . . This faith can give us courage to face the uncertainties of the future. It will give our tired feet new strength as we continue our forward stride toward the city of freedom. When our days

District) all took time out of their relentlessly busy schedule to acknowledge the success of the Imani Track Club.

“We want you to understand that our being here, our honoring you is the way that we say to you not only are you special, but we love you and we’re looking for all of you to have successful futures,” Waters said. “And when you know how and understand how important you are all of those things that get in the way of your success, you’ll be able to push back on them. You’re not going to let anybody stop you.”

Gipson also offered his words of congratulations to the honorees.

dranath Tagore’s “bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark.” I’ve said I know we can transform our nation and world because we have seen the impossible happen in our lifetime, including a pillar of Dr. King’s own dream: the crumbling of the centuries-old walls of legal racial apartheid in America thanks to the courageous witness of a small minority of parents, children, and lawyers who wanted a decent education and better life for Black children and the countless Black and white citizens who built the Civil Rights Movement to end legal segregation in American life.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, the city formally recognized Todd for his longtime work working with Compton youths and finally gave kudos to the Imani Speed City Compton Track Club for its sustained success.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Todd said. “We really appreciate the time and effort the mayor has given to finally recognize our team after 27 years of existence, of being champions, representing all the city of Compton. It’s well overdue.”

Washington beats USC in the run game

By Dennis J. Freeman LOS ANGELES, Calif. The college football game between USC and Washington came down to the fourth quarter. Tied after three quarters, the Huskies did their part to close the game out. The Trojans did not.

ITH USC’s defense focused all night trying to stop Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. from going wild, the Trojans gave up 316 yards rushing to the Huskies.

Washington running back Dillon Johnson busted a 53yard run late in the fourth quarter, which eventually led to his 1-yard touchdown plunge. That was pretty much the ballgame.

Washington outscored USC 10-0 in the final period to create the final margin of victory and the Huskies walked aways with a 5242 win at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

“We didn’t play very well tonight,” USC head coach Lincoln Riley said about his team’s defensive performance after the game

during a postgame press conference. “ Biggest thing was the run game. Way too many big plays, and then some of our worst ball was on some of the biggest plays of the game. Like the third and extra-long where we had a chance to sack him and he gets out and makes a crazy play there in the end zone. A couple other key third-down plays where we had chances to get off the field and we didn’t. We did not make enough plays obviously to get enough stops to win.”

and Washington was viewed as a showdown between reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams of USC and Penix, a player who have led the Huskies to an unbeaten record thus far this season.

Penix, who leads the nation in passing, has played well enough this season to be in the conversation as a sure-fire Heisman Trophy candidate.But while the Trojans were worried about the Penix aerial show, it was Johnson who shined the brightest for the Huskies.

game-high 263 yards and scored four touchdowns for Washington to steal the spotlight from both Penix and Williams as the best player on the field.

“It’s a special game,” Johnson said. “I don’t even know how to put it into words. It’s just God’s plan, and God’s timing. We were kind of struggling in a run game the last two weeks. The whole goal this week was to establish the run game and that’s what we did.”

Johnson averaged 9.8 yards per rush on his 26 carries.In a nutshell, the USC defense had no answer for Johnson or Washington's running attack.

With Johnson and Washington going buckwild running the football, the Huskies accumulated nearly 600 yards (572) in total offense.

USC linebacker Mason Cobb said the Trojans simply gave up too many big plays against Washington.

“I would say the biggest issue maybe was just too many explosives,” said Cobb.

“You guys can notice the difference between when guys are there to make the play and when guys are not.

That’s kind of the biggest thing for me was explosive runs. It just kind of looked like guys weren’t ready to make the play. That’s

something that we have been trying to work on and were just biting ourselves again.”

The loss to Washington dropped USC to third place in the Pac-12 football standings, and just about washed away any hopes for the Trojans to play in the conference championship game. The defeat also hampers the chances of Williams repeating as the Heisman Trophy winner.

That said, Williams had another special performance, completing 27 of 32 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

Williams also scored a rushing touchdown for a total of four scores in the ballgame. That didn’t hold water with Williams, who was not too thrilled about the defeat.

“I want to go home and cuddle my dog and watch some shows,” Williams said. “We lost the game, something we work hard for throughout months, years, for big games like this, to try and go win and play your best - each and every one of us. We came out with a loss today so emotionally, I want to go home and I want to lay with my dog.”

The frustration for Riley and the Trojans is that the team dropped two conference games they had an opportunity to. USC lost on a last-second field goal to Utah. The Trojans then pushed Washington to its limits before falling to the Huskies.

“Everybody wants to write the whole story of the whole thing and all that’s happened,” Riley remarked.

“Every week is its own season for us. We were in the moment right now to try to go beat a top-five team here, and we were agonizingly close — maybe one holding call from getting that done.

So we’re just fighting like crazy every week to play as good as we can and not get too wrapped up in all the big-picture stuff right now.”

– The Pasadena Tournament of Roses® has named Naomi Stillitano as the 105th Rose Queen® at the Announcement and Coronation ceremony presented by Citizens Business Bank. The 2024 Tournament of Roses President Alex Aghajanian made the announcement on the front steps of Tournament House in Pasadena.
