If you happen to live in or around the sleeping communities of Compton or Carson, you had plenty of options to be entertained during the final weekend in April.

MORE specifically, April 29 was a big day for both cities. During the early part of the day, the 3rd Annual Compton Advocates Community Resource Fair took place at Gonzales Park in Compton.

Later, Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Lalah Hathaway headlined the 4th annual Dymally International Jazz & Arts Festival in Carson, Calif. at Dignity Health Sports Park.

This was also a big weekend for sports. The 2023 NFL Draft saw both the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams make their first picks to be players that participated in the College Football Playoff National Championship game that was played at SoFi Stadium earlier this year.

The Chargers picked up

TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston with the 21st pick in the first round of the draft. The Rams chose offensive lineman Steve Avila, also from TCU, with the 36th overall pick (second round).

The LPGA Tour was also in town, holding up at the Wilshire Country Club where Australian golfer Hannah Green won the JM Eagle LA Championship. Finally, the USC-UCLA track and field meet at Drake Stadium on April 30, showed off the crosstown rivalry between the Trojans and Bruins.
