The History
SupereagleofNigeria
After participating in unofficial matches against other city states in the 1930s, Nigeria played its first formal match in October 1949, while still a British colony. The Nigerian Super Eagles played exhibition games against lower-level opponents including Bromley, Bishop Auckland, and South Liverpool before their Super Eagles matches. Gold at the Second All-Africa Games was the team's first notable victory. Third-place finishes in the African Cup of Nations in 1976 and 1978 followed this.

In Lagos in 1980, Christian Chukwu's team won the Cup for the first time thanks to Segun Odegbami and Best Ogedegbe. Nigeria's men's football team defeated Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico en route to winning the gold medal in Atlanta in 1996. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, they came in second to Argentina in a game that was reminiscent of the one from 1996.
