OVERVIEW Compass One partnered with Amazon’s Expressions to teach the Art of Coffee to Amazonians. This introduction was a hands-on experience to survey how to make the best cup of coffee.

The event was hosted by local roaster, Boon Boona at Grace Building, Expressions Lab.

CULTIVATING RELATIONSHIPS

Boon Boona Roasters joined our coffee community at Amazon with the opening of Canvas Bar in the Grace building, September 2021. Since then, Boon Boona has expanded with their coffee at Astra and Moby Café in the Roxanne building.

BOON BOONA TEAM Founder and CEO, Efrem Fesaha, was joined with his team Ali and Sierra to bring their expertise in coffee to Amazonians.

Efrem started the evening by introducing his team and explaining how the name Boon Boona was born and passion he has for bringing the community together with coffee. The name “Boon Boona” refers to the African name for coffee, which translates to “Coffee Coffee”.

At their coffee location in Renton, WA, you can experience East African coffee in the traditional way where coffee beans are roasted in a pan until browned, and steeped in a Jebena, a traditional African coffee pot. The coffee is then poured to be enjoyed with a group.

For this Expressions Class, Boon Boona explained coffee cupping and how to tell the different roasts apart as well as how to pour the perfect pour over by using the exact measurements and water temperature.

CUPPING Amazonians enjoyed learning about coffee cupping and how the senses pick up different notes of flavor from Boon Boona Roaster, Ali.

POUR OVER Sierra, from Boon Boona walked the class though how to make the perfect pour over. She demonstrated how to measure the grounds, then added hot water to create a beautiful cup of coffee.

CUSTOMER OBSESSION Our 15 guests left the event with an abundance of coffee knowledge and a gift bag of Boon Boona coffee, an 8 oz. Boon Boona traveler cup, and house-made truffles from the Compass Once Catering team.
