4th Annual Wauter Valley Ranch Bull Sale

Page 1

Please consider this your personal invitation to come and sort through our pen of red and black herd sire prospects that will be on offer by PRIVATE TREATY from February 1st 2025 through to the final sale of the last bull purchased in the pen. Our focus always has been the Quality of the “Mother Cow” and the profitability of our commercial customers and we will continue to breed cattle with maternal focus, longevity and doability as we continue to build our seedstock Angus program. Our primary focus is the Red Angus breed and we have thoroughly enjoyed raising this breed of cattle for their ability to adapt to our harsh environment. The calves born have the will to live at birth and the do-ability to turn hard, short growing forages into pounds. The females have a mothering ability that is second to no breed and the structure, docility and milking ability to allow their offspring to excel in the rugged country of southern, Alberta. We are so far away from meeting our end goals but truly admire and appreciate the fellowship of our Commercial customers and friends within the industry that continue to mold the emphasis our breeding and management decisions and continue to help guiding us to our destination within the Angus Breed. We would love to have you through the cow herd or bull pen located in Wrentham, AB. Call us at any time to chat about the offering or to book a tour as everyone is always welcome here at Wauter Valley ranch.

Sincerely, Matt & Bailey Criddle

fromWauter Valley Ranch

COW BULL Management Development

The WVR Cows are dealt no special treatment as they are managed among our 350 commercial cows prior to calving on a quarter section of limited winter grazing on native grass up until our winter-feeding period beginning in December. These Cows are Managed on a maintenance diet built with large amounts of dry, high roughage forages. Our cows are put on test similar to our bulls but in a slightly different format. We provide a LOW-COST INPUTS and hold our cows to a standard of LARGE OUTPUTS as far as their self-maintenance on feed and ability to reproduce pounds and quality of progeny on high roughage diets. This has developed a positive and impactful culling scenario for us as we let the environment, and our low maintenance management decipher which individuals belong in production and which females lose their spot on the roster.

The first steps taken in management on the bull calves start two months after calving. We Provide a 16% digestible forage creep feed to all Calves at 2 months of age (May 1) until being put to summer pasture (June 1) where we provide no supplementation other than summer mineral until the bulls are weaned and placed back on a TMR. The 16% Creep feed Consists of highly digestible fibers Such as Soybean Hulls and by-pass soy with a moderate grain base of ground corn and barley designed for early development of frame Growth, Muscle development but most importantly development of the rumen leading up to the grazing period over the summer. This allows the rumen to quickly adapt to grass when turned out along with immunity and overall health by allowing them to intake their daily mineral and vitamin requirements during the breeding season where the cow herd is generally in an enclosed penning scenario for purposes such as AI, pen breeding and yearly Embryo transfer Scenarios. The bulls are weaned on the ranch where they are introduced to a high protein high forage based TMR to enhance lean muscle development and maximize frame growth. The diet also contains a high-quality 14% pellet from bullseye feeds that includes a full vitamin and chelated mineral package to help boost the bull’s overall health and immunity. The bull’s overall diet is formulated to achieve a 3.0 lb ADG allowing the bulls to show their true potential and ensure longevity is a primary focus on developing the bulls. The bull’s feet do not get trimmed prior to the sale or in any scenario and are examined for fertility by the Taber Vet Clinic

PEAK DOT TRUST 86G

PEAK DOT QUEEN 303D

There is nothing new about Lady 368C bringing her progeny to the top of the bull pen. Qualicum 4250 has been elite since birth and has had us excited about his future since. It is hard to find a herd sire prospect that checks all the boxes a power bull needs to. Qualicum is rugged and opened up from all angles while maintaining a stunning build to his front third as well as that ideal hind leg and massive foot we all search for as breeders. He is the softest made, easiest fleshing bull we have raised to date and his performance data represents the value he holds from a feed efficiency standpoint. We are yet to see a 368C son that resembles so much of his dam in a masculine fashion as well as his powerhouse sire Peak Dot Trust who is known for his fleshing ability and overall mass built onto an ideal skeleton. This pedigree contains a mixture of popular sires in the angus industry including U2 Recon 192Y, Hoover No Doubt and Ellingson Roughrider. This is a Beef business type of bull and in this exciting market Qualicum will be a wise investment for any commercial cattlemen or breeder when it comes to improving your bottom line.

WVR DEPENDENCE 4275

Dependence 4275 maintains all the quality and fleshing ability of his sire Peak Dot Trust while adding a shot of presence and flash to his overall appearance. This bull is stout, and power packed full of muscle in a medium frame with an ideal coat of hair. His dam U2 Beauty 448E is moderate in stature and has been a powerhouse producer for our program. Her feet are as ideal as you will find in a Red Angus Female, and she passes this trait along to all her progeny continuously. We recently offered a daughter of Beauty 448E in the 2024 Angus Collection Sale who highlighted the Red Angus bred heifer section retrieving $18,000 to Compass Ranches of Cochrane, AB. Dependence has power in the blood to create beautiful females as well as lay the substance and balance your market cattle need to bring a premium.

3 WVR CHECOTAH 4170

If you pay attention the Black Angus seedstock industry in Canada it is no secret that PF Oklahoma 6625 has been one of the most consistent maternal producing calving ease sires utilized in recent times which made our decision to cross this sire on to our Red Angus replacement heifers an easy one. Checotah 4170 is another one of those bulls that held a lot of promise right from birth. Born at a mild 75 lbs unassisted, this future calving ease sire has a lot to offer. Checotah is ideal in his skull and extended and smooth in his front third with an explosive build from his heart girth to his pin bones, while maintaining a breed improving set of feet and legs. His dam is the highest quality K model we have and is a direct daughter of our foundational donor Red MEM Holly 29Y who is now 14 years of age and is still flushing with ease while looking as impressive as she ever has. While this young herd sire prospect adds value with calving ease he does not sacrifice performance values and has maintained one of the top average daily gains since birth amongst the entire offering. If you are looking to utilize a bull in the heifer pen that will build a set of females with great udders, feet and ideal Angus phenotype this is a great lot to spend time studying. Retaining 50% semen interest.

BAR-H TIBBIE 129F

BAR-H

Introducing Bar H Tibbie 129F! The first time we seen 129F was as a bred heifer the summer prior to the annual Bar H Female Sale where Tibbie would be offered. We idolized her on summer grass but at the time we were not in the market for Black Angus bred heifers. A few years later while scrolling through the R PLUS dispersal videos we found a Bar H bred female that we were immediately intrigued by with a powerhouse of a half blood sim/angus heifer calf at side. We ended up buying 1/2 interest in the female following the sale and would later come to find that this female was the same female we had picked out on summer grass at Bar H a few years prior to. It was truly one of those situations that felt “meant to be”. Bar H Mindbender 141D has 331 total registered progeny with 170 of those registrations being Females; a true testament to what this sire has achieved. We believe 129F is amongst the elites of those 170 females registered regardless of if you analyze her in person or on paper. 129F is Double Bred HF Tibbie 93U; a foundational female and premier dam for the Hogberg family of Langenburg Saskatchewan. Tibbie 93U is not only the dam of Bar H Mindbender 141D but also the direct dam of Bar H Crossfire 63A who has influenced and propelled the Six Mile Ranch Black Angus program into what it is today. 129F possesses power in the blood and is abundant in phenotypical quality. She maintains the ideal Angus characteristics we all search for while taking body mass, length of spine and foot quality to the next level. Leading up to this past spring we only had the opportunity to flush her twice; both times being mated to U2 Coalition 206C. The 6 low birth, ET brothers on offer are a small sample of the what Tibbie’s capabilities will be in the near future and are sure to highlight this year’s bull pen!

HF Tibbie 93U Granddam
Bar-H Mindbender 141D Sire

Regardless if you are trying to get cows or heifers bred these low birth ET brothers are flat out impressive. To find a heifer safe herd sire with the muscle, bone and growth of a performance sire is a rarity, and to top that off with a royally bred dam to back them should seal the deal for many producers in the business of producing functional maternal focused cattle. Cooperative 4235 is tidy skulled and striking in his build. The muscle, power and hair coat will be valued by many not to mention the near perfect foot he and his full brothers stand on. The U2 Coalition 206C Sired cattle may be as popular today as they have ever been. Cattle That are known for their muscle and fleshing ability, foot quality, utter quality and docility.

WVR POLITICIAN 4245

Coalition 206C’s dam, U2 Erelite 109Z was and still is one of the most impressive cows we have ever laid eyes on in person. When we analyze Politician 4245 roaming the pen his stature reflects so much of his Grandams phenotype. Wide Muzzled and sharp skulled with the most eye appeal of the 6 ET brothers. He is soft haired and has an angular build from his forearm into the point of his closed shoulder and is as long spined as a summer day. If you like them flashy and angular this one may be the favored choice. Another brother with great feet, ideal disposition and big scrotal. We feel the females Politician will produce will be program builders.

Unity 4225 combines the total package of lots 4 and 5. Arguably as stout as lot 4 with the angular and attractive presence and soft hair of lot 5 Unity is sure to be someone’s favorite brother of the 6 being offered. An ideal set of running gear as well as being extremely far ahead in scrotal development; this scale crushing calving ease prospect has what it takes to write his name on the wall. From a commercial cattlemen standpoint this will be the lot we will Draw semen on and AI all our commercial heifers to. This is the type and kind we believe in!

WVR CANDIDATE 4240

A summertime favorite. talk about one that showed himself off all summer through to weaning and hasn’t let off the gas since. Candidate 4240 is upright and elite in the build of his front third with a massive amount of base width and chest floor while maintaining a closed shoulder package with an ideal heel and foot structure. His pin set and rib cage are as opened up as you can make one and his muscle pattern will be idolized by any cattlemen who makes a living off of pounds. To be able to put this bull in the heifer pen is as exciting as it gets. Get a premium for big time steers out of first calvers and keep every female.

WVR SYNERGY 4210

Another pen pick amongst early visitors here at Wauter Valley. Synergy 4210 like his brothers is packed full of substance and power and a touch more rugged in style. Calving ease plus performance with a great foot and scrotal to boot this is going to be another heifer bull that you will be hard pressed to find. He is great haired, deep stifled, clean sheathed and ready to service and add a ton of maternal value.

WVR ALLIANCE 4215

Alliance 4215 will not be in the running for top quality out of the 6 brothers on offer but for someone who needs a more reasonably priced , good footed heifer bull with a well-developed scrotal in a moderate package that will still maintain a great set of bloodlines this one will excel in that category and most likely out breed his own performance data.

A “Reflection” of his standout K model dam is exactly what 4180 resembles. This performance prospect is masculine fronted, huge middled with an extra rib of length. His feet are impeccable, and his dam is as ideal uttered as you can make one as a first calver. The 448E descendants have been of great value and this bull combines the beauty cow family as well as the Holly cow family through his sire WVR resolution 290J. This bull will have the ability to cover miles of ground, breed large framed cows in his first year of service along with longevity and performance to put pounds in the steer pen for years to come.

Another performance oriented red hided Resolution 290J son out of a Paramount first calver that is elite in her design as far as her angularity, show style utter and ideal foot and heel design. This prospect may not be the feature of the pen as far as overall body and substance but when it comes down to feed efficiency and maternal bloodlines this bull will have the ability to do it as good as any of them. We sold a maternal relative to this bull in 2020 for $25,000 to Elk Meadows of Idaho.

Here is just a young March born prospect that will work great in the heifer pen. We have been extremely impressed with how this paramount son has cranked on the pounds. 4290 is dark red in color with a great structural build as well as tremendous set of feet. His Dam WVR Sangria 170H has an ideal utter and feet and is a descendent of 201Z; one of the first Red Angus cows we purchased from Brylor Ranches who is still on the ranch working today at age 13. This one will put ideal, long-lasting females in the herd as well as making things easy while calving heifers.
