Thank you for taking the time to read this and welcome to our 3rd Annual Bull Sale. We would like to express a great deal of gratitude to our past customers and everyone who has made our 2024 memorable. We are extremely blessed to be surrounded by the people we have in our lives, and to have the opportunity to work in the industry we do. It truly is a great lifestyle and a great way to raise a family in the cattle industry! Life certainly doesn’t slow down around here, but I’m not sure we would have it any other way.

2024 was a year most notably highlighted by yet again record-high cattle prices. The markets show a lot of strength moving forward with no indication of slowing down. These are optimistic times in our industry, a great time to build your herd and invest in your genetic base!

If you follow our breeding program it is very simple. Our highest priority is the maternal characteristics in our cowherd. It is our belief that if our cows are the right type and can fit the fundamental criteria we set out, the rest falls into place. Our females must calve with little to no assistance, nurse a calf with little to no assistance, can raise that calf to weaning of an appropriate size with no additional supplementation, and possess the maternal instinct to do these things with the least amount of human intervention possible. We select for a moderate framed, easy fleshing female, she must be feminine yet robust in her rib shape and overall dimension. Udder quality, structural soundness, and longevity are some of our highest criteria. These females must then breed up consistently year to year. We feel that our management style is very similar to that of our commercial customers, if not harsher in some circumstances. It is our belief that if our females can achieve these fundamental maternal values, the rest quite simply will fall into place, as the realization of performance must lie upon the foundation of the mother cow. Today’s marketplace is ultracompetitive, what will ultimately set you apart from your peers is the merit of your cowherd.

As our program progresses, we feel that our bull offering has as well. We think this is our deepest set of bulls to date. Our program utilizes Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer to a high degree, allowing us to propagate industry-leading genetics into our herd and ultimately your herd as well. The three breeds on offer are ones that we believe in for their ability to work in unison and compliment each other in a cross-breeding scenario, as we have witnessed in our own operation. We breed our cattle to be uniform in their phenotype across all three breeds, but still emphasize the unique advantages and breed characteristics that each will bring to the table. The offering consists of some powerful

Maine-Anjou bulls that will add power and punch to your calves, Angus bulls with a high-priority on maternal merit and efficiency, and some pounds-heavy Simmental bulls to help you tip the scales. Every bull in this sale is backed by a cow family we are darn sure proud of, and likely has multiple generations of good momma cows sprinkled throughout his pedigree.

We emphasize the development process of our bulls. Our bulls are not creep-fed, they are raised on their mother’s milk and grass. They are then developed slowly and responsibly. They are fed a conservative controlled ration consisting mostly of oats. Free-choice dry grass hay and absolutely no silage. We pail feed these bulls twice daily allowing us to control intake and monitor the bulls regularly. Our goal is to maintain a steady growth rate and maturity rate leading up to breeding season, promoting bone and tissue development, and not to fatten them. By responsibly developing these bulls, and not damaging their rumen, we procure their longevity. The integrity of our data is also very important, we hope that by developing our bulls in this manner from birth to weaning, and weaning to sale day, we can provide more realistic performance data to our customers. Your bull is an investment, one that should pay for it self and meet the shelf-life you require, and we take that quite seriously.

General Terms

The seller will retain 1/3 semen interest on all bulls sold unless otherwise noted in the sale catalog or on sconlinesales.com. The seller will also retain the right to in-herd semen use on all bulls in the sale, in-herd semen will be collected at the seller’s expense and the buyer’s convenience. Any special terms noted on SC Online Sales will take precedence over any in the catalog.

U.S. customers we ask to make your payment direct with SC Online Sales.

Canadian customers we ask you to make your payment direct to the seller, Justin VanDeWoestyne or Vandy Cattle, via cash, check, or e-transfer. Sale amount is payable in full between the date of purchase and is due upon delivery of the bull.

Housing and Delivery

All bulls will be housed at no cost until June 1, 2025, after June 1 bulls will be housed at a cost of $10/day Free delivery is provided to central points within a 400km radius of Benson, SK. We will do our best to get your bull to you as conveniently as possible to the buyer. For U.S. purchases we will health test and broker your purchase into the U.S. at a cost of $250 CDN for expense of health certificates and permits.

We ask that any bulls being housed here after a valid semen test has been performed please be insured.

Guarantee

Vandy Cattle guarantees to sell you a bull that has passed a semen test performed by a certified veterinarian. We guarantee to sell you a sound breeding bull capable of physically breeding and servicing a proven breeding female. Should any bull 14 months of age and over fail to prove a breeder after being known to be used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within 6 months following the date of purchase or 6 months after the bull has reached 14 months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of 6 months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. If proven a breeder the bull will be returned at the seller’s expense. If proven to not be a breeder; a credit, compensation, or a replacement will be issued upon agreement between both parties. The seller will not provide a credit, compensation, or replacement for physical injury or mismanagement. That being said, we encourage you to insure your bull for full value immediately after purchase.

Breeding Soundness Evaluations will be performed by a certified veterinarian and take place after April 1 and no later than April 10. Upon semen testing all buyer’s will be contacted and given their results. Any bulls that fail will be given another opportunity to pass a breeding soundness evaluation 2 weeks after the first exam.

We ask that after a valid semen test has been performed that all bulls being housed here be insured.

W/C Relentless 32C may go down as one of the top female makers in the Simmental breed. His daughters are unmatched in quality and productivity. These two full brothers we think a lot of for their striking phenotype and stout features. However, the most special thing about these bulls in our opinion is 239, their mother. She has been a standout female in our herd. 239 is a massive female, beautiful in her design, possesses an ideal udder, and is perfect footed. We have retained every 239 daughter but have numerous sons working for some of our customers. A full sister to these two bulls is the dam of Lot 9, and she is following in her mother’s footsteps in terms of productivity. When I study these two bulls I can’t help but appreciate their exceptional foot and leg structure, smooth yet powerful muscle pattern, and easy fleshing look.
