Thank you for taking your time to view this catalog, and our offering for our 2nd Annual Bull Sale. We would especially like to thank everyone who bought, bid, and viewed our bulls last year and everyone who has supported our program this past year! 2023 was an exciting year for us with many great achievements, none greater than the birth of our son Waylon, now making us a family of three. Life has certainly become a lot busier, but we are so blessed to have a happy and healthy boy!

What a great time to be in the cattle business. Record low cow numbers combined with consumer demand for quality beef, has equated to record high cattle prices. We as producers are finally getting paid what we deserve for our product! Ranchers are resilient folks, and after years of adversity we have found some reprieve. Now is the time to invest in your program! The demand for quality has never been higher and good genetics are what is going to propel your program forward into the coming years. Our breeding program is very simple. An unwavering focus on maternal characteristics in our cowherd. We like a moderate framed, stout-made female, who is attractive in her design, she must have a problem-free udder, sound feet and legs, and the ability to thrive in our harsh environment. We expect our females to calve with little to no assistance, and possess the maternal instinct to care for and nurse her calf with no human invention. Our cowherd is managed in a nearly identical way to most commercial cow-calf operations, which we hope can help you draw a realistic image of our program. A strong cowherd will set your program apart from others, and put you into a positive position in an everso-competitive marketplace. Maine-Anjou cattle continue to increase in popularity in all facets of the industry, as cattlemen are realizing and harnessing the power of the breed. “Power without Sacrifice” is a very accurate statement in describing the breed, not often can you inject power and muscle without sacrificing maternal traits like this breed can. The quality of Maine-Anjou cattle is getting so high, and is meeting the needs of today’s industry. This is a lot of the reason we got involved in the breed and have utilized it so successfully in our commercial program in unison with our Angus and Simmental genetics. There is a real nice group of Maine bulls in the sale, ones that will go on to sire some very marketable steer calves and high quality replacement heifers. We again have a group of Angus bulls on offer. The Angus bulls are backed by some very maternal genetics with efficiency in mind and some great cow families.

Although we have no Simmental bulls on offer this year, we look forward to offering some again in 2025. Every bull in this sale is backed by a mother that must meet our criteria. She must be good uddered, have nursed this calf with no assistance, and is the type of female from a phenotype standpoint that we are striving to produce. Our bulls are raised in an environment similar to most commercial operations, with no creep-feed and only mama’s milk and some pretty marginal grass, the data is about as real as it gets. We develop our bulls slowly and responsibly. They have ample room for exercise, are not babied, fed only dry hay with no silage, and a limited mainly-oat grain ration. We pail-feed the bulls twice a day allowing us to walk through them daily and identify any issues before they become problems. By developing our bulls in this way it prevents the bulls from damaging their feet or rumen, hopefully meaning more years walking your pastures. These bulls will certainly not be the fattest bulls you see this spring, that is not our objective. They are not fed to be fat, they are developed for longevity. A herd bull is a big investment, as a breeder we feel that integrity in the data behind our bulls and developing these bulls for the long term is a must! Thanks for viewing our offering! General Terms

The seller will retain 1/3 semen interest on all bulls sold unless otherwise noted in the sale catalog or on sconlinesales.com. The seller will also retain the right to in-herd semen use on all bulls in the sale, in-herd semen will be collected at the seller’s expense and the buyer’s convenience. Any special terms noted on SC Online Sales will take precedence over any in the catalog. U.S. customers we ask to make your payment direct with SC Online Sales. Canadian customers we ask you to make your payment direct to the seller, Justin VanDeWoestyne, via cash, check, or e-transfer. Sale amount is payable in full between the date of purchase and is due upon delivery of the bull unless otherwise agreed upon between the buyer and seller.

For U.S. purchases we will health test and broker your purchase into the U.S. at a cost of $250 CDN for expense of health certificates and permits. We ask that any bulls being housed here after a valid semen test has been performed please be insured.

Guarantee

Vandy Cattle guarantees to sell you a bull that has passed a semen test performed by a certified veterinarian. We guarantee to sell you a sound breeding bull capable of physically breeding and servicing a proven breeding female. Should any bull 14 months of age and over fail to prove a breeder after being known to be used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within 6 months following the date of purchase or 6 months after the bull has reached 14 months of age. The seller will have the right and privilege of 6 months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. If proven a breeder the bull will be returned at the seller’s expense. If proven to not be a breeder; a credit, compensation, or a replacement will be issued upon agreement between both parties. The seller will not provide a credit, compensation, or replacement for physical injury or mismanagement. That being said, we encourage you to insure your bull for full value immediately after purchase. Breeding Soundness Evaluations will be performed by a certified veterinarian and take place after April 1 and no later than April 10. Upon semen testing all buyer’s will be contacted and given their results. Any bulls that fail will be given another opportunity to pass a breeding soundness evaluation 2 weeks after the first exam.

All bulls will be housed at no cost until June 1, 2024, after June 1 bulls will be housed at a cost of $10/day Free delivery is provided to central points within a 400km radius of Benson, SK. We will do our best to get your bull to you as conveniently as possible to the buyer.
