BULLSALE MARCH 7, 2023 ON SCONLINESALES.COM VANDY CATTLE 1st Annual

VANDY CATTLE from Welcome

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to view our offering for our 1st Annual Online Bull Sale. As we continue to work in our program it is with great excitement that we reach this step and start to market our bulls in this platform independently. We look forward to continuing a relationship with our past customers and meeting many new ones as we continue to progress.

For those of you who don’t know us, my wife Nicole and I own and operate Vandy Cattle on the family farm near Benson, SK. We have a primarily black cowherd of Maine-Anjou, Angus, and Simmental cattle. The objective of us having these three breeds is to offer what we believe to be one of the most productive and efficient three-way crosses that exist in the industry. In our commercial cowherd our Maine-Simm-Angus cattle are such a testament to the three breeds and what they can do in a crossbreeding scenario, offering performance, longevity, and maternal merit.

Our philosophy is very simple, we raise our cowherd in a very similar management style as our commercial customers. Our females must not only survive, but thrive in our environment. We select our females with high emphasis on maternal traits and longevity, but they must also have added performance and mass, be sound structured and good footed, and attractive in their design. Our females must then meet criteria when entering production, on udder quality, maternal instinct, and temperament. Why do we put so much emphasis on the female? We feel that the cowherd is the backbone of any successful cattle operation, in our modern industry we often have the same access to genetics, your cowherd is what will indeed set you apart from your peers, whether that means selling a load of steers at the stock yards or marketing a pen of replacements to your neighbor. On the flip side, we also feel that a cow that can calve unassisted, have a calf nurse her unassisted, and raise that calf until weaning without problem is a cow that will make you money, less hands on equals less labor and expense.

Our bulls that we offer for sale must also meet this criteria. They must be backed by a good mother and have highly heritable maternal traits built-in to their genetic makeup. In fact every mating on our operation is designed to make a better daughter than her mother, and the male offspring is just a by-product of that. But we believe that when your females are doing their job properly the rest falls into place. It is also our belief that every bull we sell must be of the quality that we would want to use that bull ourself, and must meet a certain criteria of trait selection to be that. And lastly

it is our obligation to provide our customers with a product that will perform to their expectations and have the longevity to live up to their shelf-life. For this reason our bulls are not creep-fed, the data you see on the bulls are actual and as close to reality as they can be. Upon weaning our bulls are fed dry-hay, free choice mineral, and a mostly oat grain ration intended to develop these bulls for maximum longevity. As a rule our bulls are fed only up to 1% of their body weight per day in dry matter grain. We feel this is the optimum target to develop these bulls to an appropriate breeding weight and condition, this will condition these bulls to develop properly throughout our harsh winter without getting them fat, their feet and stomach does not get damaged from this approach, this is designed to not compromise the fertility of these bulls, and we feel this puts a lot more integrity behind our performance data.

These will certainly not be the heaviest, fattest, or most impressive bulls you see this spring. But we would hope by exercising integrity in how we raise our bulls will ultimately lead us to a longer and more trustworthy relationship with our customers.

Again, thank you for viewing our offering. We look forward to talking to you about our bulls and the cows behind them, but more importantly talk about your program and what direction your breeding program is taking. Please feel free to stop by any time to view the cattle, and do not hesitate to pick up the phone with any questions you have. We hope we can assist you in finding the next breeding piece for your operation.

Sincerely,

will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the DEUTERONOMY 28:8
“The Lord LAND HE IS GIVING YOU.”

VNDY FIRST EDITION 251K

Here is a stout made, burly First Edition son to lead off our offering. We acquired his sire, First Edition, in 2019 as an outcross sire and in a few short years has had such a positive impact in our program. His daughters are big bodied with great udders, yet his sons are packed full of performance and punch. 251K is backed by a powerful Garth daughter, this being just her second calf. 251K is loaded with muscle, long as a truck, has a big set of running gear, and big testicles underneath him. If you had a set of Angus cows that needed some extra power, this would be the bull.

VNDY MISS 51X

267K is soft-bodied, long-spined, and stout built. A bull that can get out and travel, and looks the part doing it. I can just imagine the kind of daughters he will leave behind. His mother, 888, is a real attractive female with a near perfect udder. She is sired by 618D, a Broker son that now works for Todd Froh who is still out breeding cows at 7 years old. Her first daughter was our high selling heifer calf a few years ago. 267K is a product of our first crop of Game On calves, the Game On cattle come a nickel softer made than most Garth derivatives, are good looking, sound, heavy muscled, and stamps them all with such a perfect skull shape.

VANHOVE RUSHMORE

VNDY 602 EMERALD 701E

KW EMERALD 602C

This is a stout rascal. This is one of our favorite bulls, he is sound structured, lots of shape out of his top and into his lower third, and has such a proud masculine carriage. This bull probably didn’t get a fair shake at life as his mother came down with an injury this summer and we ended up losing her this fall. She was an exceptional cow that had so much mass and shape, and an udder we only dream about. His dam, 701E, is royally bred in her own right being a daughter of Vanhove Rushmore (Cerveza x Northern Improvement x OCC Legend) who was a high seller out of Vanhove’s 2016 Bull Sale, and her mother Emerald 602C is a direct Irish Whiskey daughter out of the legendary DSUL/GK Chill Factor 602G cow. Power in the blood.

These two flush mate brothers are the product of a very unique mating. They are direct sons of Limited Edition out of Legacy Plus’ full sister! These bulls would be ¾ sibs in blood to SLC Sooner 101M. We were blessed with the opportunity to purchase these embryos from Barry & Patty Hall.

214K is a power bull, lots of muscle and performance, and big footed. Red Purebred Maine bulls don’t come around often, and especially in this kind of genetic package. 214K was a member of our show string this fall, and garnered the attention of commercial cattlemen and breeders alike.

223K is a smoother built version of his brother. In all honesty, this bull got left behind in a different pasture and didn’t get in and weaned quite as early as his pen mates, but in short order is making up the difference. This bull just might be a smidge more attractive in his front 1/3 than his brother. But look to either of these bulls as a unique genetic opportunity.

This bull has plenty of shape and muscle, and is really attractive in his design, all in a low birthweight package. He is the product of a first calf heifer, who is a moderate young cow, super in her udder attachment and teat design, and robust in her rib shape. She is a daughter of our Napoleon 825F bull and out of a tanky Whizard cow. 249K is sired by No Worries, one of our go-to Maine-Anjou calving ease A.I. sires, and this could be arguably the best No Worries son that we have raised.

Another calving ease bull, this one sired by Daddy’s Money. This bull is also out of a first calf heifer, an own daughter of Maternal Perfection and going back to our 52Y cow family. Your heifers will appreciate a bull like this, and so will your wife when you aren’t calling her to come help pull a calf at 3am. This bull is sleek in his skull design and shoulder shape, very attractive, sound on the ground, and backed by a mother we wish we had more like. 206K would work great on a set of heifers that need a little look, and generate some valuable replacement females.

Maternal oriented Angus genetics! Three full brothers sired by the cow maker, DuffJC 4Real 16250. This is hands down the most consistent and highest quality flush we have done on our Fay 135A donor. We sold a full brother last year to Tiny Angus Ranch, and there are 4 big bodied, broody full sisters getting ready to enter production here. These bulls are stout, huge ribbed, easy fleshing, and rugged designed. They are the kind that are gonna leave behind a set of daughters that we dream about. Take your pick out of these full brothers, it will be hard to go wrong.

A Fay 135A grandson, sired by calving ease specialist and cow maker, Gold Standard. His mother, 002, is a direct BC Lookout 7024 daughter. She is a flawless uddered female, this being just her first calf. Gold Standard, his sire, certainly needs no introduction as he has made his mark in the industry for his calving ease reputation and no-miss daughters. 215K himself big centered, strong footed, sound legged, and attractive in his head and neck. This Gold Standard son comes at you with just enough muscle, but not to sacrifice his smooth shoulder and wedge-like design making him a prime calving ease candidate.

Maternal Power! Powerful, robust, burly are words to describe 242K. An own son of Whizard 125W, who’s ability to consistently sire highly productive females is unmatched. 242K is a son of our Elegance 239Z donor who is one of the best cows we have been blessed to have raised. She is an absolute tank, with a perfect square udder, and a favorite of anyone who tours the ranch. Her daughters don’t usually leave Benson, SK., but she does have sons working at Todd Rau’s(2), Todd Froh’s(2), and Alex Franken’s. This son is loaded full of red meat, weaned off his recip with an impressive WW, and carries himself with that impressive herd bull character.
