That she has internalized the many values learned growing up in the small, southeastern Saskatchewan town of Langenburg is evident both in speaking with her and in listening to her honest and compelling lyrics. She is fast becoming a strong female presence, not only on the Canadian musical landscape but internationally as well.

“This role means a lot to me, but it’s also huge shoes to fill,” she expressed. “There are so many fantastic artists [in Saskatchewan] and I appreciate the work they all do.”

True to her humble nature, Moskaluke acknowledged that while she is becoming increasingly well known in the public eye, she identifies as being in what she calls “musical puberty.”

She leans on and values the unending support of her mother, friends and a fan base she describes as “the absolute best on the planet,” while learning what it means to pursue a career as a recording artist and performer.

“As much as it is based on music, [the music industry] is very based on personality and relationships,” she said. “The industry feels a lot like a small town, to be honest, and the best lesson I can say I’ve learned through actually living in a small town is having a personality. It has helped make me a better conversationalist and kept me grounded.”

Bigger is Better

How to get voluminous hair you have always wanted.

1) If your hair is fine, use a volume conditioner in the shower. A volume conditioner is meant for people with fine hair as it will not weigh hair down, but will help you achieve volume.

2) Towel dry your hair, comb it and then add a root lift product to the roots; as well as mousse or volumizer product throughout. Flip your head upside down and blow-dry roots while pulling the rest of your hair away from your head. Blow-drying this way this will help achieve maximum volume without having to use a round brush.

3) Bring your head upright and wrap 1-inch sections using Velcro rollers. Once all your hair is set, blow-dry with a diffuser for 10 minutes on the hot setting, then 3 minutes on cold, then lightly hairspray. *Alternative option is to use hot rollers or a curling iron, but make sure your hair is 100% dry beforehand.

4) Remove the rollers and use your fingers to comb through your hair. Lightly hair spray again. *Hair spray tip: Avoid over hair spraying the ends as this can leave your hair heavy and weighed down. Instead, spray hairspray with little doses throughout the procedure; this will create more strength and structure to your style.

5) For extra body, take one-inch sections horizontally at your crown, and back comb. When back combing you want to pick up the section of hair and hold it at 90 degrees, then do small but tight strokes with your comb. You want to create a cushion. When it comes to backcombing, do more than what you are comfortable because you can always smooth it out at the end to reach your desired look.

Quality of life is just as important as construction quality. It’s imperative to find out if the home you are looking at really fits the wants and needs of your family. When you just cannot find the home that meets your family’s needs, it is time to have one designed and built for you.

If you are in the market for a house you’ll likely want to make sure you have a roof that won’t leak, a solid foundation, proper wiring and so on. But what about the things not covered by an inspection? Sometimes it’s these less obvious factors that end up making the biggest impact on the day-to-day experience of a house — things like the quality of light, flow from room to room and the amount of time it takes to shovel the driveway. Here are 20 things to look for … happy house hunting!

1. Indoor-outdoor flow. The ease with which you can move from indoor to outdoor living areas and back again can make a huge difference in the day-to-day experience of living in a home. If this is important to you, look for French, sliding or accordion glass doors leading from main living spaces to the outdoors.

2. Size of rooms. Not too big, not too small. Channel your inner Goldilocks to nail down the ‘just-right’ room size for your lifestyle. Imagine setting up your own furniture in the rooms as you walk through — bring measurements if you can.

3. Interior layout. Like indoor-outdoor flow, the interior layout or floor plan, can have a big effect on your daily life. Walk through the rooms, imagining your typical day. Are there sharp corners and narrow passages to navigate, or is there an easy, natural flow from one room to the next?

4. Lot grade. The steepness of a lot is in some ways even more important than its size. After all, what good is an acre if it’s too steep to walk on, or rather up?

Think about not just what you want today but what you might want in the future. If down the road you were to decide you wanted to add a deck, an extra room or a backyard studio, would that be possible on your lot?

5. Window size and placement. You can of course can add and modify windows, but it’s not the cheapest change to make to a house. Ideally, look for a home with ample, well-placed windows.

6. Amount of natural light. This is a big one, yet it’s surprisingly easy to overlook when attending open houses. Once you have a few homes on your list that are strong contenders, make appointments to give them a second look at a different time of day. This will give you a fuller picture of what the light is like in the home.

7. Regional weather considerations. Live somewhere with cold winters? You may want to put an attached garage, covered entrances and an easy-to-shovel driveway on your checklist. Those in warm climates may want to focus on shaded walkways and cooling trees.

8. House orientation on lot. The way a house is positioned on its lot affects how much natural light it gets and can influence heating and cooling bills as well. A south-facing home will maximize natural light — though a north-facing home can be just as bright if the main living space is in the back of the home and there are ample windows all around. In hot climates a north-facing home with deep eaves may be preferable to keep your house cooler.

9. Driveway length and width. It seems silly to even consider this — until you buy a house and realize your car won’t fit in the ridiculously narrow driveway, or you have to shovel that extra-long driveway after a mega snowstorm. (The too-narrow driveway? Yep, that happened to me.)

10. Street parking. Though street parking is not usually an issue in the suburbs or rural areas, some towns and cities have strange rules and regulations regarding it. Where I live, for example, we are not allowed to park overnight in front of our own house.

(Combine that with the too-narrow driveway situation described above, and oh boy!)

11. Staircase steepness and length. You may not have the slightest problem with stairs, but this is one of those times it’s helpful to think about the future. If you think you might ever want or need to take in an elderly relative, or you plan to age in place; a long, steep staircase may not be the best feature.

12. Architectural details. Great architectural details, like exposed beams, beautiful moulding and mantels, will make everything else you do to your home look even better. Start with good bones.

13. Heating and cooling systems. While not as big an issue in temperate climates, if you live somewhere that gets very hot in summer or cold in winter (or both), good heating and cooling systems will make life much more pleasant. And because putting in central air conditioning or heating can cost a fair amount and the work is disruptive, finding a home where it’s already in place will save money and hassle.

14. Laundry room location and size. Is the laundry in a convenient spot, or is it hidden away in a dingy corner of the basement? Since this is a chore that usually needs to be done frequently, having a laundry near a main living area can make life easier.

15. Kitchen features. Ask whoever does most of the cooking in your household to make a wish list for the kitchen. Does he or she prefer to work on a gas stove? If

so, be sure to check for one, and failing that, ask if the house is connected to a gas line so you can add your own gas stove. Other things to consider in the kitchen include its shape or layout, natural light, number of sinks, storage area and overall size.

16. Number of bathrooms. Adding a bathroom is expensive, so choose a home with enough baths to meet your family’s needs. Even if you are a household of only one or two people, an extra powder room on the main floor can be a big bonus.

17. Ceiling height. Some basement and attic rooms have less than adequate ceiling heights. If someone in your household is tall, bring him or her along to the open house to make sure the fit in all the rooms is comfortable.

18. Zoning and town ordinances for animals. Have a notion that you may one day want backyard chickens or another unconventional pet? Check local ordinances before committing to a house, or you may never be able to get the pets your heart was set on.

19. Closeness of neighbours. Though the general area (city versus suburb) has much to do with how close your neighbours are; there can still be a big difference between how private one house feels over another. If privacy is important to you, be sure to check the views from every window, and walk the perimeter of the property to get an idea of how close you will be to your next-door neighbours.

20. The neighbourhood. This may be where you started your search, but have you really considered all aspects of your potential new neighbourhood? School districts are of course important for families with kids, and proximity to work and family closely follow on many folks’ wish lists. 2 cups rolled oats 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup wheat germ 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 cup raisins or chocolate chips 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup honey 1 egg, beaten 1/2 cup vegetable oil 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 (8 oz) pkg cream cheese, softened 1 cup sour cream 1 (1 oz) package dry ranch dressing mix 1 cup chunky salsa 1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese 10 (10 inch) flour tortillas

2 red apples 1/4 cup raisins 1 tablespoon peanut butter 8 thin pretzel sticks

Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Generously grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

2. In a large bowl, mix together the oats, brown sugar, wheat germ, cinnamon, flour, raisins and salt. Make a well in the center, and pour in the honey, egg, oil and vanilla. Mix well using your hands.

Pat the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.

Directions: 1. In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, sour cream, fiesta-style ranch dressing mix, chunky salsa and Cheddar cheese. Spread even amounts of the mixture onto the tortillas. Roll tortillas and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

2. To serve, slice the chilled, rolled tortillas into 3/4 inch slices and arrange on a large serving platter.

3. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until the bars begin to turn golden at the edges. Cool for 5 minutes, then cut into bars while still warm. Do not allow the bars to cool completely before cutting, or they will be too hard to cut.

Directions: 1. Slice apples in half from top to bottom and scoop out the cores using a knife or melon baller. If you have an apple corer, core them first, then slice. Place each apple half flat side down on a small plate.

2. Dab peanut butter on to the back of the ‘lady bug’, then stick raisins onto the dabs for spots. Use this method to make eyes too. Stick one end of each pretzel stick into a raisin, then press the other end into the apples to make antennae.

4 teaspoons peanut butter 2 tablespoons honey 1/4 cup shredded coconut 1/2 cup granola 1 banana, peeled and halved lengthwise 2 large whole wheat tortillas

Directions: 1. Place ham, lettuce, and carrot in a resealable plastic bag. Pour Ranch dressing into a small resealable container.

Wrap the pita bread in plastic wrap. Pack the ham mixture, Ranch dressing, and pita bread along with a spoon in a lunch box or bag until lunch time.

2. Assemble pita pocket by spooning the ham mixture into each pita half and drizzling the Ranch dressing on top.

Directions: 1. Stir together the peanut butter and honey in a bowl until smooth. Mix in the coconut and granola. Divide the mixture in half, and spread half over each tortilla.

Place a banana half in the center of a tortilla, and roll up. Slice the rolls in half to serve.

Living Your Healthiest Lifestyle Setting Goals

Oh hi there! I hope you enjoyed the first article to what will be a journey and collaboration of living healthy together!

So after we’ve prepared ourselves to overcome barriers that will inevitably appear along this journey to our healthiest life, we now move forward…we’ve begun!

We have made the choice and although it is for a lifetime of healthy, its so important to set goals along the way. Think of these as check points to check-in and readjust. We may have a goal we look forward to today that we may surpass sooner than anticipated. Or one that may curb our direction to set our sights bigger and further than originally thought possible.

It’s important to ask yourself: ‘Where do I see me at my healthiest and happiest?’ If you were your best version of you, what would that look like? Is it a distance ran? Is it a promotion? Is it a weight lifted? Is it a body fat percentage attained? Is it a play date with your nephew, daughter, grandson, pet? Is it walking to the grocery store and carrying the bags home? Even going through the day without joint pain. Whatever your vision is, picture it in your mind, get a piece of paper or your smart phone notes, and write the answers to these questions down: My goal is:

These goals should always benefit and add to our life, and checking in with yourself regularly will help you appreciate the effort you have put in.

We can sometimes get started and on a roll, only to have one bad situation derail our entire goal. One bad day will not hinder all of your hard work and staying the course; checking in to see how far you have come since setting your goal, helps push you forward and put things into perspective.

When will I achieve this goal?

In today’s world, everything is quicker and time is the most valuable commodity. Treat hours worked towards your goal as an investment in your own personal health stock. This is valuable time and effort, and selling yourself short will not make you rich in the future.

How does this goal translate into happiness for me?

Think bigger and believe in yourself.

How will I reward myself for reaching this goal?

Lastly, but so, so, so importantly, it is paramount to see a vision past your goal. The point of working towards something is

How will I feel when I reach this goal?

What will my next goal be when this goal is achieved?

Put this down in writing and check in to keep yourself accountable. Services are out there to provide additional accountability and attribute to your success rate, but if you don’t want this for yourself first and foremost, the added services will not be worth the added cost.

As human beings I believe we are most motivated by the feeling of accomplishment. By checking in with ourselves and setting short-term goals for long-term success, it allows us to feel accomplished. This drives us to push forward and expose ourselves slowly to the vulnerability of putting our best feet forward into society.

You must have direction and an eagerness to move forward.

This is where the lifestyle component becomes critical, for if you deprive yourself of too much, or restrict yourself to a point of breaking to accomplish your short-term goals; your longterm goals become impossible.

I began competing just months after opening our first Anytime Fitness club in Regina. I started a blog to share my journey and keep myself accountable. I could make promises to myself to do it, but letting everyone else know what I was dreaming of pushed me even harder.

I had always admired the strong women in the fitness magazines, and avidly followed my favorites and their competition placements. I wanted that feeling. Competing satisfied that feeling, but the thought of doing a competition and then just falling back into my normal routine seemed silly. I had checked that goal off, now what?

There were a lot of confused moments following, which left me wondering where was I headed next. I wondered what I wanted to do with this newly achieved success. I then figured my ultimate goal was to spread the healthy lifestyle movement and motivate others to lead their healthiest lives. That included inspiring those no matter the age, ethnicity, education or experience, so I set out to spread the message and prove all of us are beautiful at every part of our journey.

There have been many little goals along the way and with each achievement, my end purpose becomes clearer, stronger and, I am more and more confident in relaying this message.

Next month I will get into the misconceptions that come along with living your healthiest lifestyle. We will combat road bumps and continue our journey to living our healthiest! I am a seasoned traveller having set foot in 23 countries and travelled an estimated 300,000 km over my lifetime. Planes, trains, automobiles, ferries and buses. And yet, I am always feeling like there is so much left to see. So much to see, so little time.

With 195 countries in the world, you would have to become a full-time traveller just to have a chance to see them all. Travelling above all requires time and money and it is often challenging to have them in your hand at the same time. That’s why I have always believed that if you have time, take advantage of it and go. You can make more money later. You cannot make more time.

Travel blogger Gary Arndt of Everything Everywhere fame, sold his house in 2007 and has been travelling ever since. He has visited all seven continents and over 140 countries and territories across the world; every U.S. state; every Canadian province; over 125 U.S. National Parks and over 250 UNESCO World Heritage sites, and counting. He is truly a person you could say that has “seen it all” but yet his thirst for travel and new experience see him continue down roads not yet travelled. Admirable.

Even when you travel a lot there is always a consideration to go somewhere you have gone before. It is a known commodity. You feel comfortable about going there again. Comfortable, but not challenged. A comfortable trip doesn’t take you anywhere new.

And, it’s not an adventure. And, that’s OK. I admit I have been to some places more than once and continue to do so. Even though I fight it, there are always those places that feel like home to you.They feel like your own special place. I 30 |

I love Hawaii. Warm, beautiful with adventures around every corner that keep me coming back. Northern Saskatchewan is my favourite place in the entire world. A pristine mecca of forest and lakes for my canoe to carve its way through, and my fishing rod to sample. It is a place I return to again and again because it feels like it is mine. I guess that makes me human. But,my wanderlust is never satisfied and my need for new experiences pushes me to take out the globe and wonder ‘what if?’

I haven’t been everywhere yet and I know that I never will. But always looking for an adventure on the horizon keeps me excited about tomorrow. My son Ty when asked if he wanted to return to Grand Cayman this year said, he’d rather go somewhere new.

Italy – A place I would visit again and again and again. You walk through history and Italians do an outstanding job of preserving it for you to enjoy. Rome, Florence, Venice and endless rolling hills filled with ‘foodie’ opportunities, create a wonderfully repeatable experience.

Argentina – With scenery much like Canada, it is a place of great beauty with expanses for you to stretch yourself out in. It is a place where you can just get lost. I have never seen the stars shine brighter than in the Patagonian region – brilliant, like you are looking through a telescope.

Egypt – With the world heritage treasures of the pyramids and museums, it is a rare place to step back in time, not hundreds but thousands of years. Cairo despite a population of 20 million, displays a charm that will surprise you. top 5 Places I need to visit The South Pacific – Pretty much anywhere. TECH UPDATE Back to School

With a new school year right around the corner, kids are gearing up to go back to school to show off their latest clothes, gear, and most importantly, their latest gadgets. This is the perfect time to bring up some of the hot gadgets that we need to get our hands on for the upcoming school year.

Now obviously when we talk tech we always have the money conscious consumer in mind, because no one wants to break the bank at the beginning of the school year (that comes later). I’m sure we’ve all seen the savings posters everywhere but where can you really get the best bang for your buck?

Honestly there is no such thing as a sure thing so I compiled my top 5 favorite back to school items to think about: 1. Laptops: Where would we be without our trustworthy laptop? This humbling piece of technology has the power to appeal to all, and with all the potential options in the market, it has the power to drain everything in your pocket. So where can you find the best deals? Now I really do enjoy shopping at Bestbuy, with a customer friendly atmosphere, they have tons of the latest gadgets to browse through.

What I noticed is they seem to carry only 1 or 2 laptops at a discount, these devices typically have mediocre specs, and usually are up to par to the year before. For the younger guys I would take a look at those devices first. For the Tech savy consumer my favorite place is OTV. They carry the higher end laptops and as far as I can tell their prices are not too shabby either. Of course this is just a quick overview but it’s a definitely a good place to start.

2. Desktops: The desktop department is, in my view, a dying category. The only people desktops would really appeal to are the power hungry bunch, i.e. the guys that love gaming! Typically speaking you can find a high end laptop to suit your needs but nothing is better than having a fully customizable device so it can last years to come. My absolute favorite place to find parts to build your favorite desktop is www.newegg.com. Now of course gaming isn’t a big part of the school season but as I always say “work hard and play harder!”.

But for the most part a laptop should appeal to almost 80 percent of the consumer market. And if you like the having a large screen to play with, get an HDMI cable and connect it to that beautiful 60inch 4k display you have sitting at home.

3. Tablets: I wrote an article a few months back about how to choose the best tablet and now I’m mainly going to focus on where to find the best deals, as having a tablet for school is becoming a practical option as time goes on. For educational purposes, it could become the single most important device you purchase. The best tablet deals could be found literally anywhere. From your local Big

Box Stores or at your online shopping convenience. Apple is a great example of offering back to school deals. You’ll rarely see Apple dropping their prices, but during back to school season you will come across some attractive discounts - sometimes up to 100 dollars. Keep your eye on those Samsung tablets, as they seem to be a little bit better equipped to simplify your school needs with the famous S-Pen. 4. Smartphones: Of course we all have one, but this category of technology is more inclined to be driven by trend and what we rely on to help us through the day. Smartphone’s help to keep all our information in one convenient location and builds organization in our lives by keeping in touch with family and friends. A smartphone will be a priority for a lot of the youngsters. If you’re in the market for a new cellphone, back to school season is always a good time to shop. All providers have great deals on new devices with many great options for trade ins. Ask your provider for their back to school specials. For the contract-hating consumer you may want to look into the Motorola G smartphone or the Alcatel One touch, they both provide excellent user experience at a fraction of the cost of those high end smartphones.

5. SmartWatch: Many of you may not of heard of the new smartwatch category, but it is quickly becoming a neat little gadget to have. Already many smartphone makers including Samsung, Motorola and HTC are quickly saturating the market with great watches. These devices can be used for checking new messages, getting updates on the weather, searching online for stats and scores and hundreds of other things. Watches have now been transformed to not only tell time, but to give the consumer a more convenient way to stay connected.

I for one am not jumping on the smartwatch bandwagon yet, these devices are too new and still have a long way to go before becoming useful. Despite being in its adolescent state, it’s something to look at none the less.

All in all Back to school can be appealing to everyone. Make it a family outing, check out the great deals at Wal-Mart, Staples, and Target etc.. I think of it as a fun time of the year. Happy shopping!

back to school charades

Summer vacation was great but now it’s time to get back into school routines with alarm clocks, packed lunches, bus rides, afterschool activities...and the list goes on. While it’s easy to get wrapped up in all those appointments, activities and homework, don’t forget to schedule some time for family fun.

These Back To School Charades are a fun way to share some giggles with your family after a long & busy week. Family fun nights don’t have to require a lot of planning - simply grab the popcorn, unplug the electronics and grab this free game. Cut out each of the 30 charades listed below and place them into a little pail. Split your group into two teams and take turns assigning “actors” to act out the charades while the rest of the team tries to guess the correct answers.
