We think about what your gifts accomplished this year, we get a burst of energy.
Your gifts bring that energy into classrooms all across Minnesota! Like Hilltop Elementary School in Henderson, Minnesota, where COMPAS Teaching Artist Anne McFaul Reid taught a sculpture workshop to all 5th grade students (72 in all!). When we checked in to see how it went, Anne said; “Students were all engaged the whole time...It was a joyful learning environment full of energy.” You are the calayst that brings people together to create something new - and perhaps learn something new about themselves. This year, you reached 84,702 people. Wow! Whether it’s working with students to share their internal thoughts, fears, and imagination, inspiring older adults to get up and dance, or creating an “instrument petting zoo” to introduce musical instruments to kids in Children’s Hospital, you connect people to the power of creativity. None of this work would be possible without you. We hope you will take a moment to review what you’ve accomplished year – we are so grateful. Thank you.

104 schools New this year: COMPAS Teaching Artist Kevin Strauss worked
with students at Ulen Hitterdal Secondary School in Ulen Minnesota, teaching writing and listening skills. After working with Kevin all week, students shared their writing at a public event.
56 school districts You brought the magic of poetry to every K-5
student at Praririe Creek Elementary School in Northfield, Minnesota. Students worked with COMPAS Teaching Artist Rachel Moritz to write their poems, then headed to the Minnesota Center for Book Arts to create books for their poetry.
205 community workshops When Little Earth of United Tribes
needed an engaging youth workshop, they came to COMPAS. You gave 14 youth the opportunity for an in-depth exploration of their Native identity as they created spoken word pieces with COMPAS Teaching Artist Alexei Moon Casselle.
30 older adult residences Older adults living at a Senior Living
Community in Minneapolis created larger-than-life puppets with COMPAS Teaching Artist Christopher Lutter-Gardella. Once the puppets were done residents organized a parade with local school children to show them off and connect across ages.
64 libraries COMPAS Teaching Artists Leo & Kathy Lara
completed a tour of rural Minnesota, sharing the history and music of Latin America. From Warroad, MN to Aurora and beyond - you brought diverse and engaging performances and art making to libraries across our state.
39 counties Kittson County, Minnesota was this year’s farthest school
residency (more than 400 miles one way!). COMPAS Teaching Artists Benjamin Domask, Anne McFaul Reid, and Levi Weinhagen traveled north to teach a whimsy-themed camp featuring theater, sculpture, and writing to students at Kittson Central Elementary.

In memory... Emily Ann Tuttle This year, COMPAS received a special, tranformative gift from the estate of Emily Anne Tuttle. Her final gift will ensure that the work that she supported over the past 50 years will continue.
