Fleetwood Market- the seaside shopping experience

In this issue of Community Update we are delighted to select Fleetwood Market with our Commitment to Excellence Award.

Fleetwood is a seaside resort in the Borough of Wyre, Lancashire on the northwest tip of the Flyde coast. The oncefishing port is perhaps best known for the iconic Fleetwood Market.

The multi-award-winning market opened in 1840 and still very much operates as a traditional Victorian market. With 250 indoor stalls spread over 5 areas the market offers a great day out for visiting coach trips and an unrivalled shopping experience for locals. Known locally as the jewel in the crown, Fleetwood Market was recently voted the best market in the North West and the third best in the country, by gazebo supplies GazeboShop.

The market has had over 34,100 views on TikTok, with customers enjoying the eclectic treasures, from haberdashery, vintage clothing, fresh fruit and veg, homeware, pet food, to the latest street food offerings. The market is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9am- 4.30pm, with special events throughout the year. “Our multi-award-winning market is owned and run by Wyre Council and has been subject to a major, extensive £1.9 million refurbishment recently to replace the slate roof on the main hall, as well as new windows and doors.

Furthermore, as part of our ongoing commitment to net zero, the market has been awarded just under £1 million to install renewable energy technology by the Governments’ Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. This will include state-of-the-art installations of a new air source heat pump, solar panels and LED lighting.

The market will remain open-as-usual during the refurbishment and installation period, with exciting events planned for October and December.”

• Christmas Festival: Saturday 9 December- fun for all the family: Santa’s grotto, reindeers, free children’s crafts and live music.

Fleetwood Market was Highly Commended in The Great British Market Awards (NABMA) 2023 and welcomes everyone: locals and holidaymakers to visit its wide range of indoor and outdoor stalls.
