Welcome to the Taste of Blue Ash Dear Community Press Reader: The City of Blue Ash would like to extend a warm invitation to attend the 2011 Taste of Blue Ash in the heart of downtown Blue Ash (Aug. 26, 27, and 28). This year marks the 26th year of the annual event. We are proud that the Taste of Blue Ash has grown to become a quality event that is eagerly anticipated by Blue Ash citizens and visitors throughout the Tristate region. We believe that familyoriented events like the Taste contribute to Blue Ash being nationally recognized as a “fabulous” place to live, work, and play. Chief Navy Reserve Officer attending Taste Cincinnati Navy WeekAug. 28 through Sept. 2 As Chief of Navy Reserve, he is responsible for more than 66,000 Navy Reserve sailors worldwide. Today, more than 6,500 of these sailors are mobilized to active duty and serving abroad in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, living up to the Navy Reserve motto: “Ready Now. Anytime, Anywhere.” Vice Admiral Debbink will be attending the Taste of Blue Ash and he will be addressing the crowd before the CCR concert on Sunday evening.

Best of The Class Every month the Ohio Lottery accepts nominations for outstanding students and teachers from each of our nine regions across the state. As part of the Lottery’s continued support of public education, we give special acknowledgment to these selected recipients for their work as role models for educational excellence. “Best of the Class” is a Lottery program that recognizes outstanding high school graduates throughout Ohio by featuring them on television stations that carry the “Cash Explosion “ show and nightly drawings.
Combined Charitable Campaign Through the state-run charitable campaign, state employees have the opportunity to support their favorite cause. The campaign encourages giving through payroll deduction to 11 Federations representing more than 2,500 agencies. Campaign runs from September through the end of October.
Operation Feed Campaign This statewide food drive supports various food banks throughout Ohio. Employees donate non-perishable food items to regional food banks. Campaign runs throughout the months of November and December.

Rockin’ the stage Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo Pat Benatar has been breaking the rules and blazing a trail for female rock stars for more than 30 years. In the 80s, she was nominated eight times and won four Grammy awards for Best Female Rock Performance. She also received three American Music Awards. Among her two multi-platinum, five platinum, and three gold albums, Pat had 19 Top 40 hits including “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” which was her first top 10. In 1978, Pat began working with Neil Giraldo, a talented musician and arranger. Neil had previously worked with several groups included Rick Derringer’s band. Pat and Neil worked well together and developed a rapport on and off stage. Ironically, the first song Neil wrote for Pat was “We Live For Love.” He has produced all but one of her albums. Neil has also produced albums for John Waite and the DelLords, and contributed to Rick Springfield’s no. 1 hit “Jesse’s Girl” and “Don’t Fight It” by Kenny Loggins. Pat and Neil married in 1982, and between 1985 and 1988, Pat took time off to raise their daughter. Since then, Pat has been appearing in cameo roles in several TV shows. She also worked on her autobiography “Between a Heart and a Rock Place.” Neil remains busy working on various projects, such as, writing the score for the movie “Nailed,” and compiling songs for a Bruce Springsteen Tribute album.

Creedence Clearwater Revisited
You may call the members of REO Speedwagon rock stars, but they prefer: Working musicians. REO (famously named after a flat-bed truck and fire engine) formed in 1967 and vocalist Kevin Cronin has directed the band’s course since 1971. For decades the band has blended consistency and change. Initially, members rode in station wagons, going from small gigs to even smaller gigs, just to get the REO name out. Later REO consistently reached the top of the charts with 22 million albums sold in the U.S. and 40 million around the world. The band has a string of gold and platinum records and international hit singles. Members have that Midwest work ethic, and other rock bands have aspired to reach their success. REO members have always kept their eyes on the future and on the road – they have never missed a year performing live, thrilling fans with hits like “Keep On Loving You” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling.” With the many current changes in the music industry, the band members recorded “Find Your Own Way Home” in 2007 and released it through Wal-Mart. REO drove to radio stations across the country to promote the album, and that proved more successful than if they had released it through a record company. Kevin Cronin provides lead vocals, guitar, and keyboards. Other band members include Bruce Hall (bass), Neal Doughty (keyboards), Dave Amato (lead guitar) and Bryan Hitt (drums).
Members include Doug “Cosmo” Clifford, Stu Cook, John Tristao, Steve Gunner, and Kurt Griffey. Only a handful of drummers in the rock world can be identified by one name, such as, Ringo and Bonzo. Cosmo is a member of that elite club. He provided the groove for all the great songs CCR recorded in the 60s and 70s. Cosmo always takes time to chat with or pose for pictures with fans. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Best pal Stu Cook helped Cosmo supply the groove for the songs and provided the groundwork for classic American rock ‘n’ roll. He’s an electric bassist who helped define the genre. He has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In the ’60s, John Tristao was lead singer with the band People whose hit “I Love You” reached the Top 10. Steve Gunner has worked in the deep South, the San Francisco Bay area, and, since 1982, in Los Angeles. He sings and plays keyboards, acoustic guitar, harmonica, and percussion. He may even toss out a churrango solo when needed. Kurt Griffey is one of the premier musicians of today. As a guitarist, songwriter, producer, and performer, he has recorded and toured with some of the greatest musicians of all time including members of the Eagles, Toto, Foreigner, Santana, Journey, and the Moody Blues. Years after CCR disbanded, Cook and Clifford decided to put together their own band. CCR fans are reaping the benefit of that collaboration.
