FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Our 28th Annual Fun Run will look a little different this year because we’re going Virtual! Our Fun Run will be a month-long celebration encouraging a healthy lifestyle with exercise and family fun! Help us reach our $30,000 goal to benefit the MCS Children’s Education Fund which supports tuition assistance. Each student, along with their family and friends, has an opportunity to set goals and earn prizes while having a great time getting some healthy exercise! Here’s everything you need to know about the 2021 MCS Virtual Fun Run: WHAT IS THE VIRTUAL FUN RUN? • Anyone can register to participate in one of the largest fundraising events for MCS at: www.montessorihawaii.org/funrun • From January 25 – February 19, students will keep track of daily steps using their Fun Run wrist pedometer and their daily log sheet. • Students raise funds and may also collect pledges based on steps or mileage. • MCS will hold weekly competitions to encourage everyone’s participation and fundraising efforts. • Families may collect their sponsors’ pledges and return them to the school office. Please also see “Online Fundraising Instructions” for details on how to personalize your online fundraising page. • All pledge payments and online donations may be submitted up to Monday, February 22, 2021. Final Winners will be announced at our Live Virtual Awards Ceremony on Thursday, February 25. • Every student who raises $100 or more will receive a 2021 MCS Fun Run T-Shirt! Participants are eligible to receive one incentive prize based on their final fundraising grand total. Please see “Incentive Prize Sheet” for more details. STEP ONE
HOW FAR DO WE WALK? • There is no minimum requirement to participate. • We encourage all students to walk every day and track steps using their pedometers. • Strive for a 10k (6.2) miles or approximately 13,500 steps over the four weeks! HOW DO WE TRACK OUR MILEAGE / STEPS? • Each student will receive a wrist pedometer to keep track of all steps. • Students are encouraged and allowed to wear pedometers to school to track steps. • Steps must be logged onto the daily log sheet in order to be counted toward our Top Walker Award. WHERE DO WE WALK? • In the house, safely in your neighborhood, at the beach, on a hike, wherever you can walk safely is where you can count your steps! • Check out https://www.gmap-pedometer.com to create your route. • Visit our instructional video here: https://youtu.be/Qqk1a4_KtiY HOW DO WE COLLECT SPONSORS? • Collect sponsors online: A fun, easy option! • Go to www.montessorihawaii.org/funrun to create your own personal Fun Run page, and share it to your friends and relatives. Please see the “Online Fundraising Instructions” enclosed. • Online pledges are collected online. • Online donations may be submitted up to Monday, February 22, 2021 to be counted toward our Top Fundraiser Award. • Your online page can also be used to track sponsors who prefer to pay by check or cash. • Collect sponsors on the pledge sheet attached • Sponsors may pledge either a lump sum (to be paid no matter how many steps or miles are completed). • Or, they may choose to sponsor an amount per mile (the total owed will be calculated after walking is completed). • Pro Tip: asking several people for small pledges can really add up! The enclosed pledge sheet is due on Monday, February 22, 2021 to be counted toward our Top Fundraiser Award. HOW CAN I HELP? • Besides assisting your child in collecting pledges and donations, please consider a matching gift from your company if your employer participates in matching donations. • We invite you to join us in our weekly challenges and post your photos online! UNWRAP YOUR FUNDRAISING POTENTIAL Here are some fundraising ideas so you can fully unwrap your fundraising potential! • Make the first contribution Kickstart your fundraising and show supporters that you are personally committed by making the first contribution to your campaign. • Personalize Your Message Your supporters want to hear why you love MCS and how they can support you! • Let Your Friends, Family, and Neighbors know! This is a great way to share about MCS. Tell them in person (while practicing social distancing, of course!), send an email, or share on social media. Ask them to help spread the word, too. Consider asking community members to help promote through their place of faith, clubs, community groups, etc. Be sure to let them know how much MCS will benefit from the donations! • Keep Your Donors Engaged and Let Them Know When You Hit Milestones! Did you hit a record with steps for the day or the week? Were you able to outpace your parents? Share the news and peep people updated on your efforts via email, social media posts, and regular communication. • Inspire Others Share the impact that MCS has on your education and life. Tell people how their dollars and your efforts are making a tangible difference! There’s nothing more impactful than raising funds in honor or in memory of someone special. Share your efforts and invite others to join you. • Express Your Gratitude in a Meaningful Way Don’t forget to say “Thank You!” to those who have supported you. Send a personal note or email to every donor. Be sure to send a final update post-event with fundraising totals that shares your gratitude.

Add your total steps for Weeks 1 - 4 to equal your Final Total steps. Student with the highest number of steps wins the Top Walker Award!
