Realtors Gary Kelley and Sue Gordon have personality That’s important in the time of COVID-19
~ “Personality,” Lloyd Price
SOUTHBOROUGH - Gary Kelley gets a kick out of telling people that he co-hosts a radio show on the third Sunday of every month.
Listening to “All Things Real Estate,” it’s clear Kelley and his cohost, Brad Avergon, Senior Loan Office, Envision Bank and Mortgage, tell it like it is.
Recently, Avergon said to Kelley, “There’s a mindset sometimes that all we do is just a transaction. One of the things that makes you and Sue (Gordon) special and distinguishes you from some of your competition is your personality and your accountability to be there for your clients and do whatever you have to do to get things done.”
This is especially true in the time of COVID-19.
“This the first time I’ve been grounded since the summer of 1975. But with masks and social distancing, we figured out a way to get the job done for our clients who were in need,” said Kelley.
What’s different now?
“The real estate market has been rather odd. There was a sense it was going stop in March, and it’s accelerated thanks to ludicrously low mortgage rates,” Kelley said. “People seem to be more willing to put their properties on the market, which is good. There’s low inventory, and over the summer, we have been busy like it’s a spring market. We’ve seen multiple offers on homes, and every transaction has its own challenges.”
He added, “We’re seeing a shift in demand for separate workspaces with people telecommuting. There is a sense this is here to stay.”
Stressful time calls for stressless help
Kelley and Gordon are especially capable on taking on some of their customer’s stress. Clearing out and prepping a home for sale has always been a hurdle, and these days it’s a mountain. Together, Kelley and Gordon have a deep Rolodex of contacts. Need help cleaning out a basement? They have the person to do it, and sometimes they do it themselves. Need a contractor? They’ve already done the vetting and will connect you with a cost-effective quality crew.
A recent customer said, “I would not be where I am on my house today without Gary and Sue. I was overwhelmed with the idea of cleaning out 30 years of stuff and getting my house ready to sell. They told me to have an inspection before I listed my house, and that has been a gamechanger. Everything on the inspector’s list has been checked off one by one, thanks to their help.”
During COVID-19, Kelley commented that the need for physical presence has complicated some work. For example, he said, “We had a client who needed to replace their septic system. We had the engineering work done but the Board of Health wasn’t meeting. That kind of thing can push out a closing.”
Nameless call centers
Another big roadblock can be financing, and Kelley and Gordon can help in that arena too. With low rates and a huge demand for refinancing, mortgage companies are struggling to meet demand. Kelley’s relationship with Avergon (and others) has helped many clients avoid nameless call centers and close their deals.
“While it’s prudent to expect things to take longer, we are getting things done. We can even do a drive-by appraisal on a purchase transaction now,” said Avergon.
Thinking about trading up or downsizing
Kelley and Gordon would be happy to meet you, share some laughs, make a deal, and get the job done. Challenging stressful times call for stressless help.
