“Michelle helped us sell our home in Northbor ough. From the first meeting we were comfort able with her knowledge of the local area and market and we appreciated that when she said no-pressure, she meant it. Once we signed with Michelle she worked quickly and professionally, and she was very responsive whenever we com municated (phone, email and text). It was the first time we had gone through the experience of selling, and she was patient with us as we made decisions, kept us in the loop and offered her expertise when we needed it. As a busy family, we appreciated her commitment to making things as easy as possible for us.”

“Michelle is TOP NOTCH. You will not be disappointed using her as your realtor. The entire process of selling our home from the first sit down consult to the family picture holding that sold sign was impeccable. We have moved numerous times and own multiple rental properties... so we have worked with our fair share of realtors and she sets the bar. Michelle stands out from other realtors and you should consider her when selling or buying. Great marketing- she is well known in the community and has many years of experience. She will likely have other listings and be busy, but you will NEVER notice. She is prompt at returning phone calls and handles all aspects of the transaction as if you are her only client. She will tell you what she thinks. The extra detailsthis is where she shines, she knows what you need to do and what you don’t to sell. We sold our house in 1 day during the COVID-19 pandemic, need I say more! ”

Warm Wishes

Throughout the years there have been several discussions about the key to success. Though there are many different opinions, I truly believe that the real key to my success is all of you; my clients, friends and family. I want to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. I am deeply touched by the kind words, referrals, loyalty, and constant support that I have been shown over the years and want you to know that I sincerely appreciate everything you have done.

I look forward to the opportunity to assist you with any of your real estate needs in the years to come.

Best wishes for a happy & healthy holiday season and a wonderful year filled with laughter, love, and happiness.

As we approach the holiday season, I feel extremely blessed when reflecting on the past. Twenty-seven years ago, I began my career as a real estate agent. I never could have imagined the amazing journey that was ahead. I have met incredible individuals along the way, many of whom I feel honored to now call friends. This adventure has seen the growth of my four children, the marriage of four children, and the birth of my two grandchildren, with a third and fourth grandchild on the way.

“Karen was very knowledgeable and professional. She had excellent local contacts when I needed recommendations. Karen was patient and calm when I wasn’t so much so. She talked me through computer applications that were new since the last time I sold a house. Karen was very supportive through the whole process of selling my home. I enjoyed working with Karen and recommend her to anyone local who is selling their property.”

As I reflect back on my 18 years in Real Estate, I can’t help but feel gratified and proud for doing so much more than just helping over 300 buyers and sellers close on their homes.Ithink of the busy medical doctor battling breast cancer...all the days I went over to her townhouse before showings to bring fresh flowers, make the bed and tidy up. I was by her side throughout her successful battle and am grateful that we are still good friends today.

There will always be a special place in my heart for all my “kids” making their first home purchase. I

Then there are the more complex situations when the marital home needs to be sold as part of the divorce settlement. I recall working alongside a hoarder as she tearfully filled donation bins…and the laughs that ensued as she admitted feeling a burden had been lifted. And then there was the dad who often needed me to pick up the kids at school and one day meet him at the ball field to sign an offer. He still periodically sends me chocolates to thank me for remaining neutral and level-headed during a tumultuous time.

COMMUNITY ADVOCATE • BUSINESS GUIDE • Friday, October 30, 2020 • 9

Since purchasing the business, I’ve had a vision to create something that is so much more than a retail store. I view the store as a venue to provide education, build relationships and create a culture around the products we carry. People don’t realize that we are one of the leading liquor retailers in the nation and much of that is due to the way we connect with our customers and vendors.

What products do you think are going to really grow in popularity?

The pandemic has been challenging for many businesses, have you been able to adjust?

The growth in specialty whiskies and craft brews has been nothing short of spectacular. We are the largest sellers of both types of products in the area. Now, we are looking at “Craft Spirits” as the potential booming market. No matter what products come along, it is our goal to be the educational source that allows our customers to be more knowledgeable about the products they buy.

I never stop marketing the store and exposing it to new markets. In 2018 I was recognized by the industry magazine, Market Watch as the “Marketer of the Year” and in 2019 we were named a Whisky icon store by Whisky Magazine as the best single location Whisky Store in the country. But beyond that, I am passionate about the culture we have created and I plan to keep building on it...it’s not unusual for us to get a large number of people visiting us weekly from adjoining states or even hundreds of miles away. I always want people to realize what a true “destination store” they have right in their own back yard. Liquors

Specialty foods, accessories and an extensive wine selection, including a tasting room.

Julio’s is known for its educational events…has that been put on hold? Absolutely not. We have created a series of hybrid events that allow people to participate either in person, (with limited attendance) or remotely…whatever works best for their personal comfort level. To be informed of our events, customers can sign up for our newsletter at www.juliosliquors.com or download our Julios Liquors app.

Julio’s Liquors is a very unique store. What is your vision for it?

Honestly, we were able to pivot almost immediately and customers were grateful for our response. We were able to accommodate patrons regardless of their comfort level with the health crisis… for those who wanted touch-free options, we offered curbside pick-up and even home delivery. For those who were comfortable shopping in-store, we enacted customer friendly ways to adhere to all CDC and state recommendations.

Julio’s is really known as a regional destination ...how did you become a leader?

How do you account for the popularity of specialized whiskies?

It has something to do with a maturing of tastes. As people mature they start to look for products that have a history and a culture behind them. Whiskey culture is a fascinating world and I have gone to great lengths to become an expert in the field. People with an interest in whiskey would be interested to know that I have been inducted into the Keeper of the Quaich Society in Scotland, one of whisky’s highest honors. Not only does it make them very accessible but they are also able to offer members special pricing on their insurance needs.

History: Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union (SCFU) was founded in 1960 as the Shrewsbury Municipal Employees Credit Union. Its mission was to serve as a cooperative financial institution allowing members to pool their savings, lend to one another, and own the organization where they obtain financial services. Your deposits are protected by the National Credit Administration Association (NCUA), a government regulatory and monitoring agency similar to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) that banks use. Over the years, the credit union expanded its service area to Shrewsbury and all contiguous towns.

Business hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5p.m., Monday-Friday. Phone: 508-925-2970.

SFCU also offers commercial services, specializing in creative financing for small and large businesses. Current offerings include commercial real estate and equipment loans, business lines of credit and credit cards, as well as deposit products. Commitment to community: SFCU has a strong sense of community – it continues to donate to a wide variety of organizations such as the public schools, library, police and fire departments, the arts and health/human service organizations. SFCU became a partner in the Shrewsbury Public Schools Colonial Connections program. It will provide opportunities for students to develop real-world skills and independence in order to prepare them for future success beyond their education. Increasing access to experiential learning and career awareness will help students decide on their paths for higher education and careers and will include, among others, enhanced learning in the STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics). Funds will be used over the coming years to fund special events, transportation, communications, associated equipment and supplies.

In keeping with its dedication in supporting the communities it serves, the credit union also offers residents and groups complimentary use of its spacious community room for gatherings and meeting. We invite you to call, click or visit us soon. A better way to bank may not be a bank at all!

massage therapists and clients wear face masks; therapists also wear goggles, aprons and gloves. New gloves and laundered aprons are changed between every client session.

Why I chose these areas of law to specialize in: Initially, I chose estate planning since I liked the area of law, the hours were flexible, and I could see clients in the evening after my children had gone to bed. I continued to specialize in this area after my children had grown not only because I liked it, but also because I saw a need.

Community outreach: I offer free legal clinics at the Westborough Senior Center and Grafton Senior Center. I also offer a free half hour consultation to new clients and a discount to the senior members of our community. I see these all as my way of giving back to the community.

Staff must pass a temperature screening prior to beginning work. Appointments are staggered to reduce social interaction

When my mother was widowed in her early 60s she knew nothing about finances, estate planning and the like. Several attorneys told her what to do and they all said different things. She was overwhelmed. I believe that I am the type of attorney who will take the time to explain things to my clients so they understand their estate plan and also understand what their estate planning documents say before they sign them. I approach each client with compassion as well. Many people are afraid to do a Will, thinking that it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Those clients need extra patience, understanding and time.

Resinate is an industry leading, Massachusettsbased, vertically integrated Cannabis company. From the beginning, our mission was to establish Massachusetts as a leader in Cannabis production and service and to eliminate the negative stigma associated with Cannabis use.

When scheduling a massage, clients must answer a verbal questionnaire regarding their health. Upon arrival at the massage studio, clients then have their temperature taken with a touch-less thermometer. If the client’s temperature is elevated above the guidelines set by the CDC, he or she must reschedule their massage appointment. Prior to their massage, clients also need to answer another short questionnaire, this time written, about their current health status and any potential exposure to illness.

More time has been allotted between clients to better facilitate deep cleaning and disinfecting of private massage spaces. Both

considering estate planning, the documents that everyone needs at a minimum are a Will, a Power of Attorney, and a Health Care Proxy. Most people don’t know that a Power of Attorney names someone to manage your finances if you cannot do so and that it ends when you die. It is a very powerful document. If a person has minor children, then they will also need some type of Trust to go along with the Will since minors cannot be in control of their own money.

Gega said that they can create a beautiful kitchen or bathroom on any budget and often beat the local home box store in quality and price. They have also done closets, basements and home entertainment zones.“We have handpicked our lines of cabinets that have a little bit of edge on their competitors with better price,” he added. “Many of the manufactur ers build their product in-house from scratch.”When asked about design trends, Gega replied, “New England will al ways be New England. financing, and Kelley and Gordon can help in that arena too. With low rates and a huge demand for refinancing, mortgage companies are struggling to meet demand. Kelley’s relationship with Avergon (and others) has helped many cli ents avoid nameless call centers and close their deals.

He added, “We’re seeing a shift in demand for separate workspaces with people telecommuting. There is a sense this is here to stay.”

Kelley and Gordon are espe cially capable on taking on some of their customer’s stress. Clearing out and prepping a home for sale has always been a hurdle, and these days it’s a mountain. Together, Kel ley and Gordon have a deep Rolo dex of contacts. Need help cleaning

This is especially true in the time of COVID-19.“Thisthefirst time I’ve been grounded since the summer of 1975. But with masks and social distancing, we figured out a way to get the job done for our clients who were in need,” said Kelley.

“While it’s prudent to expect things to take longer, we are get ting things done. We can even do a drive-by appraisal on a purchase transaction now,” said Avergon.

Thinking about trading up or downsizing

Kelley and Gordon would be happy to meet you, share some laughs, make a deal, and get the job done. Challenging stressful times call for stressless help.

During COVID-19, Kelley com mented that the need for physical presence has complicated some work. For example, he said, “We had a client who needed to replace their septic system. We had the en gineering work done but the Board of Health wasn’t meeting. That kind of thing can push out a closing.”

“The real estate market has been rather odd. There was a sense it was going stop in March, and it’s accelerated thanks to ludicrously low mortgage rates,” Kelley said. “People seem to be more willing to put their properties on the market, which is good. There’s low invento ry, and over the summer, we have been busy like it’s a spring mar ket. We’ve seen multiple offers on homes, and every transaction has its own challenges.”

Stressful time calls for stressless help

Recently, Avergon said to Kel ley, “There’s a mindset sometimes that all we do is just a transaction. One of the things that makes you and Sue (Gordon) special and dis tinguishes you from some of your competition is your personality and your accountability to be there for your clients and do whatever you have to do to get things done.”

Listening to “All Things Real Estate,” it’s clear Kelley and his cohost, Brad Avergon, Senior Loan Office, Envision Bank and Mort gage, tell it like it is.

A recent customer said, “I would not be where I am on my house today without Gary and Sue. I was overwhelmed with the idea of cleaning out 30 years of stuff and getting my house ready to sell. They told me to have an inspection be fore I listed my house, and that has been a gamechanger. Everything on the inspector’s list has been checked off one by one, thanks to their help.”

SOUTHBOROUGH - Gary Kelley gets a kick out of telling people that he co-hosts a radio show on the third Sunday of every month.
