SHREWSBURY - Town Meeting Members will decide a number of key questions regarding everything from the future of the Toblin Hill Drive bridge in town to sidewalk and crosswalk improvements when they gather later this month. Selectmen approved a now finalized warrant for that meeting on Sept. 28. Town Manager Kevin Mizikar said there are a total of 16 articles on the warrant.
WESTBOROUGH - Arts enthusiasts enjoyed ideal autumn weather Oct. 2 for the Westborough Cultural Council’s 11th offering of Arts in Common at Bay State Commons. It was canceled last year due to pandemic restrictions. Promoted as “a festival of all things creative,” the six-hour event showcased a variety of performance and visual artists. Eric French of the David French Music Company emceed the live entertainment lineup. Acts included four bands performing an eclectic mix of music for all ages as well as a comedic juggler to entertain kids. About 45 artists displayed and sold handmade items. Among free activities were caricature and henna creations, and a musical instrument petting zoo. Some vendors and food trucks represented culinary artists. Festivalgoers viewed the Community Bottle Cap Mural, which was created by attendees of 2019’s Arts in Common. The mural is now a permanent attraction at Bay State Commons. This fundraiser allows the Westborough Cultural Council to award annual grants. They awarded over $12,000 to 17 grant recipients for projects or events in 2020-2021. Event co-chairs are Maureen Johnson and Jenny Silverberg along with other committee members Michelle French, Holly Kenny and Tracy Spadafora. Article to propose funding Toblin Hill Drive bridge replacement One will appropriate funds received from the sale of Centech Park North to replace the Toblin Hill Drive bridge. That structure was built in the late 1990s and was deemed irreparable in 2016, according to reporting in the Worcester Telegram in November of that year. The town recently sold Centech Park North to NorthBridge Partners for $6.5 million after NorthBridge secured approval to build a “campus-style” complex on the property.
