Carolyn Demarest Wells, 90

SHREWS BURY - Carolyn Demarest Wells, 90, known to family and friends as Demmie, died Jan. 9, 2021 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. She was born in Baltimore, Md. on July 2, 1930, the third daughter of Marguerite Bahlke Demarest and Clayton Demarest, Jr. Mrs. Wells is survived by her husband, John (Jerry) Shippen Wells; her daughter, Elizabeth Wells Moir and her husband Bruce; her son, Eric Demarest Wells and his wife Nancy Tivenan; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of Callahan Fay and Caswell Funeral Home.

Anthony Chaves Jr., 69

WESTBOROUGH - Anthony “Tony” Chaves Jr., departed this world Jan. 7, 2021. He was born on May 14, 1951 to Julie and Anthony Chaves Sr. in Hudson. He was a longtime resident of Westborough.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, who he has been married to for 42 years; his son, Tony and wife Jackie; daughter Tina and husband Anderson; son Joey; and six grandchildren, Carissa, Grant, Lana, Colton, Maya and Brielle. He is also survived by seven sisters and one brother, Dale, Suzanne and husband Ray, Patty and husband Bruce, Pam and wife Patricia, Mike, Lisa and husband Dave, Marianne and husband Tim, Cheryl and husband James. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph Chaves and Bobby Chaves, and sister, Donna Chaves.

Services will be private. Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Fernando Estrela, 68

HUDSON - Fernando Soares Estrela, 68 of Hudson, passed away peacefully Jan. 9, 2021 at Vero Health and Rehab in Worcester after a period of declining health.

Fernando was born on September 14, 1952 in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal. He was one of twenty children of the late Etelvina De Jesus (Soares) Alexandre and Jose De Estrela Junior. He was raised in São Miguel and immigrated to Lowell in 1975 and finally settled in Hudson in 1991.

Fernando is survived by his three children, Dalila M. Ringland, Mark P. Estrela and Nilton C. Estrela; five grandchildren, Crestina Ringland, Aiden Estrela, Savannah Estrela, Ethan Estrela and Analise Estrela; two siblings, Fatima Soares and Denis Estrela; and his former spouse, Lucia de Fatima (Tavares) Estrela. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by 17 siblings.

A period of visitation was held Jan. 13 at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home of Hudson, with a graveside Committal service at Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson.

Catherine A. Andrews, 89

HUDSON - Catherine A. (Goodwin) Andrews, 89, of Hudson, passed away peacefully in her home Jan. 3, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Cathy, or Honey as she was known to those closest, was born in Bradford on April 27, 1931, the daughter of the late Francis and Frances (Lanigan) Goodwin. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marion (Goodwin) Nordengren and Patsy Goodwin, and her brother, Francis (Buzz) Goodwin.

She was the beloved mother of Wanda Hill (her husband Richard) of Lancaster; Bob Andrews (his wife Lynn) of Hudson; Darrel Andrews (his wife Lauren) of Hudson, and Timothy Andrews (his wife Maria) of Rochester, N.H. Beloved Nana to Corey Lynn Andrews (her fiancé Steven Fiorenza) of Stamford, Conn.; Robert Andrews (his fiancée Natalie Pellecchia) of Fitchburg; Kaitlin Walker (her husband Ryan) of Lancaster; Taylor Kenney (her husband Michael) of Lyndeborough, N.H.; Monica Brown (her husband David) of Cape Coral, Fla. and Zachary Hill of Lancaster. She was a doting Nana to her greatgrandchildren, Charlotte Walker, Avaline and Weston Kenney, Emma and Grace Brown – with more on the way. Aunt Honey is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews all of whom she adored.

Steve Faucher, 73

SHREWSBURY - The words simple and quiet go hand in hand and could be used to accurately describe Steve Faucher.

Steve died at his home Jan. 6, 2021 with family at his side after a valiant battle with leukemia. He was 73.

Born on December 5, 1947 in Worcester he was a son of the late Paul and Shirley (Olson) Faucher. A graduate of North High School he played football and baseball and began lifelong friendship with James Walker. He then earned both his Bachelor degree and Masters in Criminal Justice from Western New England College. His professional career began at Parker Metal in Worcester before joining the Shrewsbury Police Department in September 1973. In March of 1985 he transferred to its detective bureau and was promoted to Sergeant in October 1988. From September 1996 he worked as the court officer until enjoying retirement in May 2005.

In addition to his wife, Patti-anne, he leaves his children, Craig A. Faucher (Deanna) of Worcester, Patricia F. Reynolds of Brewster and David J. Faucher (Katie) of Shrewsbury; much-loved Papa to R.J., Stephen, Madeline and Griffin; his brother, James Faucher (Marie) of Worcester and the late Arthur Faucher, Ann Faucher and Katherine Faucher; and is also survived by nieces and nephews, including Keith Faucher (Cheryl) with whom he was very close and his four legged golden, Riley.

Family and friends honored Stephen’s life by gathering for a calling hour Jan. 11 at Saint Mary’s Church of Shrewsbury, followed by his funeral Mass and burial at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements by James & John Heald.

Jerrold Loureiro, 75
