Gary Kelley, real estate professional, will sell your house Call for a complimentary home sale review RE/MAX real estate agent Gary Kelley and his business partner Sue Gordon know how to sell your house. They get the job done. Starting with staging and then professional photography, Kelley and Gordon produce high quality brochures, property specific websites including 3D tours, and marketing floor plans. In some cases, when a home is empty, Kelley and Gordon will “virtually stage” the home, adding furniture and details, right down a magazine on a coffee table. Next, Kelley uses his extensive network of contacts, and expertise in social media—Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram—to bring in buyers. Kelley said, “The power of online presence cannot be underestimated. We recently sold a home to a buyer who lives on the west coast. She never set foot in the home, and using our 3D technology, she knew it was the right house.” Having lived in the MetroWest area for 28 years, Kelley knows every nook and cranny of the local real estate market. And, he’s an active member of the Rotary Club of Westborough. Kelley brings years of experience to his role as a Realtor. He knows how to manage listings, having run large information technology organizations for Staples, Fidelity Investments, and Wellington. He also knows how to buy and sell real estate, having been a real estate investor, along with three partners, who together once owned 200 residential properties, and 140,000 square feet of commercial property. Gordon, a Southborough resident, contributes her expertise in administration and graphic de-
sign, perfectly matching with Kelley’s knowledge of engineering, investment, and sales. Kelley said, “We meet customers as a team, and sometimes, we find for couples, one will bond with Sue, who is more creative, and the other will bond with my affinity for numbers.” There are lots of reasons to work with Kelley and Gordon RE/MAX EXECUTIVE REALTY. Kelley and Gordon have access to an extensive network of resources through RE/MAX, a global real estate network founded in 1973. RE/MAX has just rebranded. Unlike other Realtors, Gordon and Kelley have already refreshed all of their sales materials. They’ve also updated their website, www.movewithgary. com, loading it with high definition photos and video. Kelley said, “When it comes to real estate, seeing is important.” For luxury listings, Kelley and Gordon use RE/MAX Collection signs. As a member of the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing, Kelley has access to a worldwide network of qualified buyers. Are you a first time buyer in your 30s? Kelley said, “I come across in a way resonating with people in their 30s. Many are first time buyers who are looking at properties from $350,000 and up. These days, those properties come on the market and get snapped up right away.” Are you downsizing? Kelley has done it. He’s moved from a big house into a condo. He knows the dilemma facing downsizers who want to remain active. Kelley’s knowledge of 55 and active older communities enables him to suggest options for active downsizers.
Are you divorced? Both Kelley and Gordon have been down that road. They know the challenges you will face. Kelley said, “We know how to lead buyers and sellers through a safe feeling conversation.” He added, “We will always give the same message to both parties, and we might not do it at the same time. Together, Sue and I have helped many couples work through home buying and selling during this very difficult time.” Got stuff? Many sellers need to dispose of heirlooms or furniture. Once the seller removes their valuables,
they can work with auctioneers to determine the perceived value of what’s left. They determine the best way to maximize the return. Great reputation A client said, “Gary Kelley was right there, every step of the way for us… Gary always had our best interests in mind and you always felt that he treated you like family.” They are so sure… Kelley and Gordon know you have a lot of choices when it comes to hiring a real estate agent. They encourage you to contact them at 508-733-6005 for a complimentary home sale review, including a staging consultation.

Luisa Cloutier, Owner, I.S.S.A.
Specialist in Exercise Therapy, Fitness Trainer, Nutrition Together Coach
Fitness Together helps people achieve healthier lifestyles Northborough—When someone decides to commit to a healthier lifestyle, Luisa Cloutier and her team at Fitness Together Northborough are there to help. The Northborough training studio is offering personal and semi-private training through a variety of modalities that include weight training, nutritional counseling and cardio prescriptions. The studio’s focus is the client and serving the needs of each individual. However, each client needs a high-level of commitment to gain the desired results. “People have to be ready to do this and commit to the process” Cloutier said. “Usually we see someone who has tried diets and big gyms without achieving the results they want. We offer a very structured program, provide accountability and motivation and teach them to put themselves first.” Typically, clients will train three-to-five sessions per week, with each session 45-minutes of training plus warmup and extra time for cardio. Cloutier’s Fitness Together studio features four individual training studios where clients work one-on-one with a trainer, and an additional cardio room. Nutrition Together, Fitness Together’s proprietary nutritional program, is an integral part of the process that offers education and accountability to keep the client’s nutrition aligned with their training. Learning the importance of nutrition along with personalized training sessions provides truly amazing results. Cardio Together offers a customized cardio prescription that combines fartlek, interval and tempo workouts with a focus on exercise frequency, intensity, duration and progression to achieve maximum results. “We monitor and check each client’s progress within our programs to ensure that results are being obtained,” Cloutier said. Clients tend to see results almost immediately, which pushes them to continue in reaching their health and wellness goals.” The length of time people spend in the program depends on the goals they are trying to reach, she noted. “Some spend three to 12 months, and when they have achieved their goal, they decide whether they want to continue.” Some, she added, have been coming for years.
(left) In Italy, Luisa participated at a national Run Race 7K CorriRiva at Riva dei Tessali, Puglia Italy and got 2nd place and received a beautiful trophy. (below) Luisa’s new book, “Until Forever,” a memoir of her life growing up in Italy and then with her late husband, Brandon, is available on Amazon.com
Cloutier and her late husband, Brandon Cloutier, opened the Northborough studio 13 years ago. Brandon, a former Marine, had been working as a trainer and decided to start his own training business, choosing the Fitness Together franchise. Luisa, who had been in banking, joined him, handling much of the business side, and she became a trainer as well. “We wanted to help people become healthy,” she said. After her husband’s death, she made the commitment to continue the business, with the support of the studio’s staff. “I love to change people’s lives. This is not a job for me, this is a mission.”

In addition, the bank headed east into Framingham with a new state of the art digital space which serves residential lending, retail banking and commercial services. Q&A with Ryan Maloney of Julio’s Liquors
Julio’s Liquors is a very unique store. What is your vision for it? Since purchasing the business, I’ve had a vision to create something that is so much more than a retail store. I view the store as a venue to provide education, build relationships and create a culture around the products we carry. People don’t realize that we are one of the leading liquor retailers in the nation and much of that is due to the way we connect with our customers and vendors. You seem to be interested in partnering with others in the industry...why is that? In keeping with the theme of collaboration and education, we partner with many of our vendors. In some cases it’s to educate our customers, in others it’s an opportunity to bring forth rare or specialty products not generally available. In one recent initiative we are partnering with a number of wine producers to create signature wines exclusive to our store. Keep in mind, these are not just relabeled as many stores do...these are our unique, exclusive wines. What products do you think are going to really grow in popularity?
Ryan Maloney, Owner of Julios Liquors, Westborough
The growth in specialty whiskies and craft brews has been nothing short of spectacular. We are the largest sellers of both types of products in the area. Now, we are looking at “Craft Spirits” as the potential booming market. No matter what products come along, it is our goal to be the educational source that allows our customers to be more knowledgeable about the products they buy. How do you account for the popularity of specialized whiskies? It has something to do with a maturing of tastes. As people mature they start to look for products that have a history and a culture behind them. Whiskey culture is a fascinating world and I have gone to great lengths to become an expert in the field. People with an interest in whiskey would be interested to know that I have been inducted into the Keeper of the Quaich Society in Scotland, one of whisky’s highest honors. I also started a group for aficionados known as the Loch and Key Society. Those interested should visit our website at www.lochandkey.com. Do you see growth in the craft beer market? Oh for sure. Currently we carry about 2,000 craft beers but there are new ones coming online weekly. One of the new trends in micro brewing is “hyper-local” with beers being produced in your own town or very close by. We plan to be the “go to” place in the Northeast for craft beer selection and education. Julio’s is really known as a regional destination ...how did you become a leader?
Specialty foods, accessories and an extensive wine selection, including a tasting room.
It’s a never ending process. I never stop marketing the store and exposing it to new markets. This past year I was recognized for this by the industry magazine, Market Watch as the “Marketer of the Year”. But beyond that, I am passionate about the culture we have created and I plan to keep building on it...it not unusual for us to get a large number of people visiting us weekly from adjoining states or even hundreds of miles away. I always want people to realize what a true “destination store” they have right in their own back yard.

“Lee is AMAZING!!! Where to start? She is the consummate professional, truly the best realtor I have every worked with. I cannot more highly recommend Lee. Not only did she find us the perfect home, but it wasn’t even on the market! She knew another realtor in a different firm who mentioned that it may go on the market, she arranged a pre-market showing and it we eventually settled on that home. What is more, the deal never would have happened without Lee on many levels. She did independent research at the town offices and county offices and found out issues that the seller needed to address (outside of and beyond the home inspector) before closing and got them to fix all the issues! She did it all. She picked us up at airports, hotels, etc. Had healthy snacks and water with her for us, entertained and bonded with our 3.5yo daughter while we looked at properties, had a custom made drawing made of our home as a gift as well as gifts for our daughter. She is the best of the best! We LOVE LEE!!!” - Mark Notash & Jennifer Wilcox, Northborough, MA “Lee is honest, trustworthy, ethical, diligent, and committed to the client. Our real estate transaction was complex and extended over a number of years. Lee attended every planning board meeting and made numerous trips to the town hall to research by-laws and questioned complex regulations. Lee is the reason my husband and I still have our sanity! THANK YOU. Over the years, she has handled other real estate transactions for our family members and all were conducted professionally. Now that the sale of our property and purchase of new home (yes, Lee helped us here, too) is behind us, we will miss our frequent communications with Lee.” - Jim and Linda Lunt, Shrewsbury, MA “Lee is simply wonderful in so many ways! She makes the home searching process stress-free, responds quickly, and makes you feel like you are her only client. I have utilized Lee several times over the past 10 years and I would highly recommend her.” - Rebecca Lauzon, Grafton, MA

That commitment to superior personalized customer service is what makes MSB stand out from the rest. And they continue to do so by striving to add more products and services, and make banking easier, for all aspects of your life. “We strive to be a resource for your financial wellness, not just a place for banking products. It’s the advice and attention we give that creates our ‘North of Ordinary’ experience,” Jamie Belmore, MSB’s Marketing Officer. For their small business customers, MSB’s Business Development Officers offer free consultations and will review your accounts that you hold at other financial institutions, to analyze how MSB
might be able to help you save significant amounts of money each month. They also offer financial literacy programs for businesses and consumers, where an MSB official will go to your business or organization to present a customized program targeted for your staff. For consumers they often offer seminars on a variety of subjects such as buying a home, planning for college, retirement, cyber security and email scams. And because so many of us live in a 24/7 world, the latest in technology is definitely important when it comes to your banking needs. Recently MSB was recognized in the first annual Banking Choice Awards as a top provider of Technology in Middlesex County. Northeast Insurance
continues tradition of personal service Region – Since opening its first office in 1989 in Auburn, Northeast Insurance has grown from eight employees to 48 with six locations throughout central and eastern Mass. One thing that has remained constant over the years, however, is Northeast Insurance’s commitment to individual customer service. “Our approach with our clients has not changed from a personal contact basis,” said Stan Szajna, treasurer and co-owner of Northeast Insurance with Scott Bulger, president. “We still make house calls or commercial calls and don’t use automated phone systems. When clients call in, they speak to an actual representative. It’s the way we’ve always done it – with a personal touch.” The company also prides itself on the number of insurance carriers it represents. “Not all companies are all things to all people,” Szajna explained. “It depends on the type of risk. Some are better for higher-value homes, older homes or provide specific coverage for
people with animals, pools or trampolines. It’s not one size fits all.” The wide variety of carriers gives us the ability to shop around for best coverage and best price, according to Szajna. “We analyze each client’s situation, and, with the number of companies we represent, we are able to offer the best possible price for the appropriate
coverage. Every company has a little different strength and pricing ability. We can evaluate your needs and match them to a company and possibly improve coverage and price, especially if we combine auto and home insurance together,” Szajna said. Northeast provides a comprehensive array of coverages.
“We do a little bit of everything,” Szajna said, including life insurance, auto, homeowners and condos. On the commercial side, they provide coverage for retail and wholesale businesses and contractors. “Peace of mind is our policy” is the motto of Northeast Insurance and it is one that they take to heart. “We have been using that motto for quite a while,” Szajna said. “It means that we are always looking out for the best interest of our clients. We want to give them a feeling of security.” The attention to their clients extends to their Facebook page, where they post helpful information, such as how to keep your home safe while on vacation; summer gardening advice; and pool safety tips. annoush Jewelers is a familyowned jeweler, based in Springfield, which started in the jewelry business in 1980 and currently operates about 55 stores. Hannoush purchased Goldstein Swank & Gordon, a Worcester jeweler since 1899, over 20 years ago, keeping that jeweler’s exclusive lines and the historic name on two stores, in the Solomon Pond and Auburn malls. “When people come into our store, they find excellent quality and good value,” said Tony Bitar, manager of the Hannoush store. “Our employees and managers have been around a long time.” Bitar himself has been with the company for over 20 years.
The store has doubled its selection of engagement rings and wedding bands over the past year and a half, and the experienced staff can advise couples on this momentous purchase. Couples looking for an engagement ring today have so many choices they can be overwhelmed. “We try to help, for example suggesting styles that would look good depending on the shape of the hand, but we never make the choice for them,” said Bitar. Hannoush and Goldstein Swank & Gordon offer hundreds of different settings to choose from, a big change from 20 years ago, when couples tended to pick a solitaire diamond

engagement ring. Now only about one of five couples wants a single diamond. Most like a center diamond with stones around it. Both stores also do a great deal of custom design. “We have a designer in Springfield who can take a couple’s sketch and create a unique piece of jewelry for them,” Bitar said. Along with the broad selection and experienced sales staff, Hannoush is competitively priced with other retailers and online jewelry outlets. “Engagement rings start at $499, so we can meet just about every price point,” Bitar said. While both stores feature fine jewelry, they have a slightly different emphasis. Goldstein Swank & Gordon in Marlborough focuses on luxury brand names in the bridal and fashion jewelry world, such as Verragio, Scott Kay, Gabriel & Co., Simon G, and Alor. For more casual looks, Auburn offers jewelry from Pandora and both stores offer pieces with magnetic closures from Petra Azar. Hannoush also carries Alex and Ani designs and a popular line of Les Georgettes bracelets in different metals with interchangeable colored leather inserts. Goldstein Swank & Gordon places a greater emphasis on its watch business, including high-end brands like Rolex and Tag Heuer. Rolex watches are very popular. Watches for both men and women are more a piece of jewelry than a timepiece. Hannoush features men’s and women’s watches from Movado, Seiko and Citizen. The value of buying fine jewelry from an experienced retailer is very important rather than online.

“Our prices are very competitive, and we offer personal service. If there is ever an issue, we will address it,” said Bitar. An engagement ring can look very different when it is on the hand. It’s important to try on rings. When someone is ordering a ring with stones on the side, the jewelers prefer to make the ring in the right size so the stones fit well. They can size rings up or down, and replace any lost stones. It’s a service you can’t get online. The brands of fine watches Goldstein Swank & Gordon sells are not available online, and people who think they are getting those brands online risk buying reconditioned pieces or counterfeit watches. Both jewelers feature fine diamonds, luxury watches and great customer service in the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough and the Auburn Mall. For additional information, please call Hannoush at 508-303-6595 and Goldstein Swank & Gordon at 508- 624-9994 in Marlborough. In Auburn, please call Hannoush at 508-832-9492 and Goldstein Swank & Gordon at 508-832-9994.

Diane Cournoyer Dance Center Diane Cournoyer Dance Center was established in Northborough in 1965. With a love and passion for the art, Diane started teaching neighborhood students in the basement of her home. As the studio grew, so did her need for a bigger space. She moved the studio to the Unitarian Church in Northborough. Many wonderful dancers came through those doors to dance every week but again the growth of the studio created the need for more space. Approximately 20 years ago the studio moved to its current location, 329 West Main St. This location has three spacious studios providing enough space to offer a wide variety of classes. Diane’s daughter Michelle, who began teaching at age 14, came on full time in 1990 and has been running the family business with Diane ever since. The studio also has five additional dance teachers, each and every one of them having the same passion and love for dance as the Cournoyers. The Dance Center takes tremendous pride in offering quality classes with personal attention given to all students with an emphasis on body placement and technique. Whether you are dancing as a hobby or want to dance competitively, the Dance Center can provide the proper education. In classic
tradition, students are required to dress properly for class which includes a black leotard, tights according to dance genre and hair in a secure neat bun. Classes are offered in Acro, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary, Pointe, Hip Hop and classes for children with special needs. Children can start dance as early as two years old. Diane herself did not start dancing until she was in her mid-twenties, which proves that you are never too old to start dancing. Five years ago the studio began offering competition classes for dancers wanting to explore the sport. Heading into their sixth season, the dancers have brought back numerous special awards and trophies. The teachers at the Dance Center all agree that the real award is watching their dancers improve through hard work and dedication. The family Both Diane and Michelle agree that through 61 years in busitradition ness, dancers have come and gone but as educators one of the most continues, rewarding moments is when a former student brings their child to with Michelle’s study at the Dance Center. It brings back beautiful memories and daughter Sadie provides a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment in fostering a passion for dance. The joy of dancing is for the professional and amateur alike. The discipline, grace, coordination and feeling of accomplishment benefit the body and the mind of students of all ages. The self-confidence acquired lasts a lifetime. The Dance Center is still accepting enrollments for their 2018/19 session. You can visit their website NorthboroDance. com and contact Michelle to discuss enrolling your dancer.

Over-55 community Bigelow Village
ATC SERVICES JUNK REMOVAL & DISPOSAL
offers residents freedom to own a home of their own design
BUSINESS DESCRIPTION/HISTORY: We offer total estate cleanouts, the whole house, one room or one item. We are more than happy to help people move. We will also do small demolition jobs too. All metal will be taken for free on every cleanout to be recycled. We take tires, paint cans and air conditioners. We reclaim air conditioners and refrigerators. We break them down and take out the motors and copper to get the best price for scrap. We serve all of Metrowest and Worcester County.
WHAT MAKES YOUR COMPANY A GOOD CHOICE TO DO BUSINESS WITH? We have an in-house facility that recycles and disposes the items we collect. We would rather give somebody a bureau than throw it in the trash. There’s no sense throwing everything in the landfill. We do a better job for our customers than if they were to rent a dumpster. If a mattress or a tire is thrown in there, the dumpster staff goes through the load and will back-charge for those items. The bill may end up being considerably more than the expected rental fee. Our prices are the lowest in the industry.
Hours: Monday –Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

ugford’s Flower Shoppe has been a family-owned business since Paul Mugford started it in the 1960s. The shop’s current owner, Christine Bakutis, has been running the business for nearly 25 years, as an independent florist in its original Westborough farm stand location. Mugford’s has a large selection of domestic and imported florals to create custom arrangements to suit your needs. Christine and her staff of professional florists are known for their beautiful designs and their unequaled customer service. For nearly 25 years, Chris has been selecting heritage and cultivated varieties of annuals, bulbs, perennials and flowering shrubs and trees with an eye towards her signature wedding styles. All flowers are grown pesticide- free, watered with rain and well water, and fed by compost created from their own green waste on site. When their gardens are resting, Chris and her staff source other local and domestic growers as well as international floral markets to get the best product with the gentlest global impact they can. The shop offers same-day flower delivery to destinations in Westborough, Northborough, Southborough, Marlborough and Shrewsbury. Children’s resale sizes 0-14
Tracy and Paul Ottaviano
I first learned of Children’s Orchard years ago when I was introduced to the store by a friend. As a wife and mother of three children, I could appreciate the idea of buying and selling gently used children’s items. Plus, as someone who cares deeply about environmental protection, I really liked the idea of recycling these perfectly good items so they stay out of the landfill and let others enjoy them.
I worked as an employee in the store for 12 years, learning the business and what it took to be successful. I purchased the business three years ago with my husband Paul. This October will be our second year in our newly expanded location. At Children’s Orchard, we buy and sell gently-used children’s apparel, shoes, toys, and baby equipment. No need to wait for your items to sell because we are resale, not consignment. We pay cash the same day or you may choose store credit to earn even more. Since kids outgrow their clothing so fast, we help parents keep their kids in quality clothing without spending a fortune on it. SFCU and Daniels, Together at 489 Boston Turnpike Shrewsbury
History: Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union (SCFU) was founded in 1960 as the Shrewsbury Municipal Employees Credit Union. Its mission was to serve as a cooperative financial institution allowing members to pool their savings, lend to one another, and own the organization where they obtain financial services. Over the years, the credit union expanded its service area to Shrewsbury and all contiguous towns.
Services: Membership is open to those who live, work, worship or attend school in Shrewsbury or one of the bordering towns. Members can take advantage of traditional savings, checking and credit card services, direct deposit, automatic payments, and an array of personal lending choices – all with lower fees than most banks charge. SCFU also has no minimum balance requirements or maintenance fees. By joining a credit union, members become shareholders. Unlike for-profit banks, credit unions allow members to keep more money in their pockets through the advantages of higher savings and lower loan rates. We are currently offering highly competitive rates on mortgages, auto loans, personal loans, as well as home equity options. SFCU also offers commercial services, specializing in creative financing for small and large businesses. Current offerings include commercial real estate and equipment loans, business lines of credit and credit cards, as well as deposit products. Commitment to community: SFCU has a strong sense of community – it continues to donate to a wide variety of organizations such as the public schools, police and fire departments, and the Shrewsbury Public Library. In 2018, with a $50,000 donation, it became a major donor of The Campaign for Shrewsbury Athletic Fields, for installation of long-lasting and low maintenance artificial turf. This will allow for safer play/practices, more outdoor space for physical education, and access for youth sports. The reduction of irrigation and maintenance costs, coupled with charging rental fees to outside organizations will benefit the budget. Later improvements are planned for the addition of lighting, installation of ADA compliant seating and walkways, and additional restrooms and storage. The town of Shrewsbury appropriated funds to resurface the track, as well. As more games will be played on our home field, a new standard will be set for sports teams and relationships within our community will strengthen among family, fans and players. In keeping with its commitment to support community, the credit union also offers residents and groups complimentary use of its spacious community room for gatherings and meetings.

The other Realtors in the group also bring varied backgrounds to CRG including corporate finance, marketing, serving on municipal boards and more. That translates into a broad base of knowledge that can assist every type of homeowner, from those seeking to purchase their first house, couples searching for a home for their growing family, corporate moves, or downsizing.

For homebuyers, CRG will support every step of the way, helping you find — and purchase — the home of your dreams.
For sellers, they will provide a detailed market analysis, show you comparable homes that have sold in your area and help you accurately price your home to sell as quickly as possible for top dollar.
The team knows buying or selling a home is not only a huge financial decision, it can also be a very emotional one. There is never any pressure or obligation; rather, they assist clients with the most complete information available to help them feel comfortable and confident in the decisions they make.
But while experience is critical, there is another element that every member of CRG shares — a sincere empathy to help others and make their community a better place. And it is not just talk — after every sale, the company makes a donation to a local charity in their client’s name. On their website, there are listed dozens of organizations that CRG has donated to over the past few years.
“My goal isn’t to ‘get rich in this business, it is to make a difference,” Castinetti said. As part of that goal, she has also formed a nonprofit, the “Kindness Coalition

their estate plan and also understand what their estate planning documents say before they sign them. I approach each client with compassion as well. Many people are afraid to do a Will, thinking that it is a selffulfilling prophecy. Those clients need extra patience, understanding and time.
In considering estate planning, the documents that everyone needs at a minimum are a Will, a Power of Attorney, and a Health Care Proxy. Most people don’t know that a Power of Attorney names someone to manage your finances if you cannot do so and that it ends when you die. It is a very powerful document. If a person has minor children, then they will also need some type of Trust to go along with the Will since minors cannot be in control of their own money.
Teaching: In the spring I teach a course at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough, “Estate, Financial and Retirement Planning for Women”. Too often women are not knowledgeable in these topic areas and I want to educate them so they can comfortably participate in their own decisions.
Why I chose these areas of law to specialize in: Initially, I chose estate planning since I liked the area of law, the hours were flexible, and I could see clients in the evening after my children had gone to bed. I continued to specialize in this area after my children had grown not only because I liked it, but also because I saw a need.
Media: In recent years I did a show for Westborough TV called “Law For Your Life,” which covered a variety of topics including estate planning and a series, “Moving Mom,” in which I detailed the process of moving my mom from out-of-state into a local assisted living residence. These shows can be accessed online at www.westboroughtv.org.
When my mother was widowed in her early 60s she knew nothing about finances, estate planning and the like. Several attorneys told her what to do and they all said different things. She was overwhelmed. I believe that I am the type of attorney who will take the time to explain things to my clients so they understand
Community outreach: I offer free legal clinics at the Westborough Senior Center and Grafton Senior Center. I also offer a free half hour consultation to new clients and a discount to the senior members of our community. I see these all as my way of giving back to the community.

So, what is acupuncture anyway? Acupuncture is an ancient medicine with many Owners Melissa Stein and Kim Flaherty modern-day health benefits. Home Instead Senior Care T
his year the Northborough Office of Home Instead Senior Care is celebrating 23 years of being a leader in providing non-medical companionship and personal care services. In what is still a largely unregulated industry, what makes this particular office of the worldwide franchise stand out is the medical backgrounds of its owners, Laurie Bender, a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist, and Bruce Bender, a physician. The Northborough office was the first Home Instead in New England and the 51st franchise in North America. After completion of a successful first year, in 1998 the Benders bought their second territory covering MetroWest with an office in Natick. The two offices now cover 59 towns. The Benders’ medical backgrounds as well as longterm professional experience in the industry gives families an extra level of comfort in what can often be a stressful and emotional time. Over the years, Laurie and Bruce have worked closely with local officials, including state senators Harriette Chandler (D-First Worcester), Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) and Congressman Jim McGovern to legislate and create quality standards for the industry. The Benders’ two Home Instead franchises employ over 200 “CAREGivers” who are all trained through
intensive orientations and specialized instruction of personal care skills, specifically in working with clients who have Alzheimer’s and other dementias. After completion of their trainings, CAREGivers are matched with clients needing their level of skills.
Home Instead Senior Care’s mission is to enhance the lives of aging adults and their families. Although they can perform more than 60 home care activities such as: companionship, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, running errands, shopping and personal care; each client and their situation are evaluated in terms of the whole person and what their goals are. The owners realized long ago that, “We do custom work.” It is about the person and the relationship and the services provided vary with need. Potential new clients can contact the offices directly to set up an assessment. There are also ways clients can be referred to Home Instead which include: family members reaching out, word of mouth, physician offices, discharge planners, or Councils on Aging. A nurse will complete an assessment and make a recommendation for the potential client as to whether or not the services Home Instead provides would be a good fit. If not, they will make a recommendation to other resources the family may contact. Once a client begins care services they are periodically reassessed free of charge. As the company’s owners reflect on their growth and look towards the future, they are more committed than ever to providing the very best service for their clients and will continue to be a trusted source of assistance and support for seniors so they may truly stay at “Home Instead.”

Raymond Valois Valois Home Improvements valoishomeimprovements.com 508- 845-1107 Valois Home Improvements has been serving Shrewsbury and its neighboring communities for 18 years. Owner Raymond Valois has created a thriving business that blends his love of problem-solving with creativity and an artistic flare. Valois began his career in photography and the advertising field. He spent about 10 years in the industry but when he had pockets of time he also served as a handyman. What began as a small home repair business is now a full-service home renovations entity. Valois Owner Raymond Valois has always had an artistic sensibility that he has been able to incorporate into his business. Largely self-taught, he has an innate ability to look at a construction situation and figure out a creative solution, whether it be fitting a new door into an old door jam, re-fitting kitchen cabinets or building a deck. According to his website, “Ray’s creative side set him apart from other contractors as clients asked for more complex projects such as built-ins and other woodworking projects. He soon learned that his attention to detail and creative eye for the architectural esthetics of his clients’ homes helped bring a unique perspective to his projects.” Areas of Valois’ expertise include kitchen and bath renovations, porches, custom decks, windows and doors, custom woodworking, finished basements, stairs and railings and fine finish carpentry. Customer service is paramount, particularly in a competitive home improvements environment. Valois Home Improvements is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is fully licensed and has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Michelle Gillespie…Your Local Realtor “I have a successful record with close to 15 years of proven results as a Realtor in Northborough. I specialize as a listing agent getting properties sold for my clients. Placing families in their dream homes, helping seniors to relocate and downsize, and investors to find great real estate investments,” she said. “My clients receive the highest quality services with successful results. “I offer quality service and spending time with my clients to help them prepare and professionally market their home. Nowadays, most buyers research a property online first,
which means the online impression is critical. I work with professional photographers to take exciting, bright pictures of all my clients’ homes to feature online.” Gillespie also brings years of experience from working on municipal boards and committees to the process. “I’ve been on the Northborough Planning Board for 15 years and chair the Design Review Committee. My knowledge of land use, zoning issues and design and materials sets me apart,” she said. She also works with clients who move in or out of the area.
“I have worked with relocation clients for many years. I understand how corporations move their people, the processes and the procedures that are required by relocation.” Gillespie noted she was hired this year by Keller Williams Pinnacle Metrowest to open a Mega Agent office in Northborough. Her office is located at 10 Main Street in downtown Northborough. She is excited about this new opportunity and invites anyone interested in selling or buying a home to stop by her new office and meet her staff.
Here, in their own words, are comments from a few of her many satisfied customers. “Michelle Gillespie has the four necessary traits of a great Realtor. She is professional, passionate, patient and personable. We highly recommend her without reservation, hesitation or limitation.” - Steve Anderson and Gail Parker
“We highly recommend Michelle Gillespie to sell your home. We had considered trying to sell our home of 30+ years ourselves, but after experiencing the entire process we are so glad we hired Michelle. Of all the excellent agents we interviewed we felt that Michelle had the best understanding of the key selling points of our home. We were comfortable with the target price using comparable sales analysis and back-and-forth discussion of the pros and cons of our home.
She helped us understand what to expect, and helped us decide where to focus our energy on improvements before we went on the market. She had a fantastic network of professionals who helped stage the home and bring out the best features, and when our listing hit the market our oldest son said “I never realized we grew up in the Taj Mahal”! She managed negotiations with the buyers and buyers’ agent, and went above and beyond after the sale helping with our move and preparing for the walk-through. Most importantly, Michelle was always accessible and responded promptly to every email, text or phone call. It’s hard to overstate how comforting it is to have a professional like Michelle helping you through one of the most stressful events in your life!” - Cheryl and Bill Lewis
“Working with Michelle to sell our house was amazing. She knew exactly what we needed to do to get our house ready to put on the market and helped us with every question we had along the way. Her work ethics are exceptional. She was able to get our house sold for top dollar shortly after it came on. From the moment we started working with her we could tell how dedicated she was, and how much she cares about her clients. It was a pleasure working with her and we wouldn’t hesitate to work with her again.” - Donald & Titani Labaj
