Hudson’s Taylor Memorial Bridge to be assessed for repairs By Paul Hopkins Reporter HUDSON – Town Meeting voters approved $22,000 for an engineering study of the Thomas Taylor Memorial Bridge, which spans the Assabet River to connect Wood Park and Apsley Park. Built in 1926, the bridge is named for the early industrialist Thomas Taylor, who gave $2,000 to the town for its construction. The town has issued a request for proposals (RFP) that would include an assessment of the bridge, recommendations for further testing and short-term repairs, and recommendations for long-term repairs. Proposals are due Jan. 9 and should include approximate cost estimates. “The bridge is starting to show its age,” Assistant Director of Planning and Community Development Pam Helinek told the Community Advocate. “There are cracks in the concrete, and the Historical Commission would like to restore it to its original beauty.” Before that can happen, the town wants to find out if it is structurally sound. “The results of this initial survey may be recommendations for more in-depth testing, requiring samples of the bridge material to be extracted and analyzed,” Helinek added. “If so, we will need to do a more in-depth engineering study. If structural repairs are determined to be necessary, we will need to make those repairs before moving forward with the cosmetic work.”
‘It just becomes part of who you are’ Marlborough’s longest-tenured teacher set to retire By Shealagh Sullivan Reporter MARLBOROUGH — In 1970, Tina Adamson walked through the doors of Francis J. Kane Elementary School as a kindergartener. In 2026, she will retire from that same school as a kindergarten teacher. “I’ve loved being a teacher, and it’s because of the kids,” Adamson told the Community Advocate. A lifelong Marlborough resident, Adamson began her teaching career in 1989 after graduating from Framingham State. She ran the city’s first full-day kindergarten program for bilingual students at Bigelow Elementary School. She founded the program alongside several colleagues. The district constructed walls in the basement of Bigelow to build a classroom for Adamson. In her 37-year career, she said she never forgot those walls and the support system that made it all happen. “It’s part of me. It’s like police officers and Teacher | 6
