Manuel P. Lopes, 82
HUDSON - Manuel P. Lopes, 82, long time resident of Hudson, MA, died on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Marlborough Hospital with his beloved wife of 47 years, Maria I. (da Silva) Lopes by his side.
Besides his wife Maria, Manuel leaves his son, Daniel Lopes of Northborough, MA; his two daughters, Isabel Lopes of Hudson, MA and Helena Lopes of Sterling, MA. He is also survived by his brother, Victor Lopes of Belgium; his sister Idalina Tinta of Marlborough, MA along with other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Maria Lourenco.
Born and raised in Corticada, Portugal, Manuel was the son of the late Antonio and Maria P. Lopes. He attended local schools in Portugal and enjoyed working hard during his younger years in Portugal. In 1966 he emigrated to the United States and settled in Hudson, MA. He was employed for many years as a machine operator by Independent Cable Company in Hudson until his retirement. He was a devoted catholic and longtime member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.
Manuel enjoyed the simple things in life, gathering with friends and family was always special. In his spare time he would go for long walks or ride his bicycle. He loved being outdoors working in his yard and garden for many hours. He was a talented automotive mechanic and would maintain and repair his own vehicles or help friends when needed. Both Manuel and his wife Maria looked forward to the many trips back to Portugal visiting family and friends. He will always be remembered for his kind and giving spirit, his infectious smile and the warmth of his heart he shared with all who loved and knew him.

Dennis L. Knecht, 72
HUDSON - Dennis L. Knecht, 72, of Hudson, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Vera M. (Hall) Knecht, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on October 6th.
Born in East St. Louis, Illinois on May 30, 1950, he was the son of the late Virgil and Eleanor (Steinberger) Knecht. He received his education in the Belleville, IL school system.
He entered the United States Army in November, 1970, and served eight years as a Military Policeman, receiving two honorable discharges, and leaving the military in October of 1978. Within the eight years he served, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he made friends with the local people who took him fishing in the surrounding villages.
Dennis loved being an artist and several of his paintings were displayed at the capitol building in Boston, at many local businesses, and in the Hudson Town Hall. Several local newspapers featured articles about his art and passion for painting. He also loved fishing, bowling, darts, and watching Red Sox and Patriots games.
In addition to his wife Vera, he is survived by a sister, Donna Patterson and her husband Robert of Millstadt, IL, and a brother, Terry Knecht and his wife Jeanne Phivan of Iowa City, IA, a sister-inlaw, Sherry Letendre, and a brother-in-law, George V. Hall III, both of Hudson, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was the son-in-law of the late George Jr. and Lillian Hall, and brother-in-law of the late Steven Letendre.
Funeral services, held at Slattery Funeral Home Home of Marlborough, were under the direction of Morse-Baylis Funeral Home of Lowell.
