Monmouth County SPCA Fur Ball Gala “An Extraordinary Success”

he Monmouth County SPCA recently held its 2022 Fur Ball Gala at the Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury. Held in honor of the life and community philanthropy of Larry Hesse, MCSPCA leadership reported the evening “an extraordinary success.”

Nearly 400 guests enjoyed a cocktail reception with a sumptuous array of passed hors d‘oeuvres and creative culinary stations, and the opportunity to visit with MCSPCA rescue pets in the garden.

The evening’s live program was presented during a four-course dinner, which began with a heart-felt tribute to Larry by MC-

SPCA Executive Director Ross Licitra and Board Trustee and Gala Co-Chair Lisa Stavola. Appreciation for Larry, who was an avid animal lover and a dedicated supporter of the Monmouth County SPCA, was exhibited in a moving standing ovation.

“The Monmouth County SPCA was honored to celebrate Larry’s life, his leadership and his love for animals,” said Monmouth County SPCA Executive Director Ross Licitra. “Although Larry Hesse’s philanthropy touched many lives and many different organizations, we know none were as dear to his heart as were animals.

The 2022 Fur Ball Gala was made possible by the large amount of support of the event’s sponsors, specifically the 2022 Fur Ball Presenting Sponsor, The Cooper Voccola Family Foundation and Jack Morris of Edgewood Properties. The Fur Ball is the MCSPCA’s largest fundraising event of the year and proceeds allow compassionate care for over 6,000 homeless and abandoned animals throughout Monmouth County and beyond.

Monmouth County Historical Association (MCHA) welcomed over 400 members, friends, and history lovers to the 47th Annual Garden Party this summer. The evening soiree took place at the historic Hillandale House in Middletown, home of John Knott and John Fondas. The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners were honored for their enduring commitment to preserving the history of Monmouth County.

“Throughout many decades, MCHA has greatly appreciated and valued the enthusiastic support of the County Commissioners,” said MCHA President Linda Bricker. “The Board of Commissioners has consistently recognized the importance of the Association’s mission and has provided vital funds and encouragement to assist in preserving and celebrating the history of Monmouth County for all. We are so happy to have this opportunity to thank all the County Commissioners present and past for their friendship and encouragement.”

Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley and Commissioner Nick DiRocco were in attendance representing Director Thomas A. Arnone and fellow Commissioners Lillian G Burry and Ross F. Licitra. All past Commissioners were also cordially invited to receive grateful thanks for their efforts on behalf of MCHA. The Board of Commissioners has supplied crucial funds to MCHA to aid in the preservation and maintenance of its five historic properties, renowned collection and exhibitions, as well as showing support by attending events and presentations. Most recently, the Commissioners assisted with critical aid needed to present the 20th anniversary exhibition 9/11, Monmouth County and Its Aftermath at Taylor-Butler House.

Hillandale was built in 1931 by J. Wright Brown, a New York banker and stockbroker. Designed by renowned architects Polhemus and Coffin, the Georgian Revival estate features murals of local vistas in the grand foyer. Set on eight acres that was once the property of Percy Straus, one of the seven children of Ida and Isidor Straus of Macy’s fame, the home offers sweeping views of the Navesink River, Huber Woods, and Navesink Country Club. Knott recently acquired Hillandale and he and Fondas are enthusiastically revitalizing this historic gem.

Netta Architects Cuts Ribbon on Newly Redesigned Hominy Hill Golf Course Center Netta Architects announced the opening of the redesigned Hominy Hill Golf Course Center in Colts Neck. Modernized amenities include a banquet room, locker rooms, and a new Pro Shop. Netta was selected by the Monmouth County Park System to design a complete renovation of the existing Golf Center.

The original clubhouse was a two-story 11,000 square feet building converted from dairy barns in the mid-1960s. The project, led by architect Hong Jinn, includes a reconfiguration of the building’s interior along with a new addition bringing the structure to an impressive 12,000 square feet of space.

“Hominy Hill is a stunning public course and we’re proud to work with the County to update their public facilities,” said Nicholas Netta, President of Netta Architects. “I believe visitors will find the new space provides a comfortable and modern experience that matches the beauty of the course.”

The project also included a full replacement of exterior finishes along with new mechanical and electrical systems. The new clubhouse now contains a Pro Shop, gourmet restaurant and bar, and locker rooms along with Monmouth County office space. The second floor of the clubhouse contains a 275-seat banquet facility along with a banquet kitchen.

Recently, dedicated Colts Neck police officers saved the life of an adored husband and father.

On May 16, my husband, Dan Reiss, was walking our dog near the Colts Neck Police Department. He had a sense that he was ill and knocked on the door of police headquarters.

He suffered a massive heart attack. This type of heart attack is typically fatal. After seventy-five days of hospitalization, he came home.

It was only because of the swift, professional, and compassionate action of Sergeant Matt Miyakawa, Detective Joe Zoppi, and Patrolmen Gabe Campan, Lorenzo Felix, Niall Centofani, and Steve Ferlisi, in concert with the Colts Neck First Aid Squad, that he survived. They shocked his heart three times. Despite the fact that it was the end of the shift for some of these officers, they gave up their time to give him a police escort to Jersey Shore Medical Center and arranged to synchronize the traffic lights so that the ambulance could get him to the hospital without delay. In doing so they not only saved his life, but they also ensured that he did not suffer any neurological damage. Going even a step further, they took care of our dog, Jake. These officers went far beyond the call of duty.

We have asked that these officers be given formal recognition at the next township committee meeting. There are no words that adequately express my family’s gratitude.

Colts Neck Shade Tree Commission to Host Spotted Lanternfly Workshop The Colts Neck Shade Tree Commission is encouraging residents to educate themselves by joining in on the workshop on September 17 at 9:00 a.m. at Colts Neck Library and to each take small personal environmentally friendly actions to control the invasive Spotted lanternfly. The workshop will also discuss the pros and cons of treatment with insecticides and of a variety of environmentally friendly treatment options to reduce the Spotted lanternfly population. Free materials will be available to construct various types of traps.

The Spotted lanternfly reaches full maturity during August and September as a flight capable powerful leaf hopper which is a challenge to catch and kill. The adult female can produce hundreds of eggs, thus emphasizing the importance of killing the adults before mating and deposition of eggs. Time is of the essence and many residents have taken up the task.

College Costs The ever increasing cost of post high school education, whether college, vocational school, or something else, is a serious concern for many parents today. It is an extraordinary cost that many divorcing parents of teenagers must give serious consideration.

College costs include the more obvious expenses – tuition, room and board, books, and required fees. Nowadays, however, the list of often-included expenses also encompasses SAT/ACT review courses and registration fees, transportation to and from college several times per year, trips to visit colleges the student is considering applying to, and application fees. Sometimes college coaches, computers, and study abroad costs are added to the list.

Most parents want the best for their children, but who pays when both want their children to have every advantage, but also prefer the other parent to shoulder the greater financial burden? In most circumstances both parents have an obligation to contribute to their child’s educational expenses. On the other hand, both parents (whether custodial or non-custodial) have the right to consultation about and a say in the choice of school and the costs they can afford.

Typically the Parent of Primary Residence (PPR) is most directly involved in the initial college selection process (not always). She/he generally has more daily contact with the child and often a greater exposure to the child’s thoughts and plans about college. It is the PPR’s duty to provide the Parent of Alternate Residence (PAR) with all the information she/ he has access to. It is both parents’ duty to communicate with each other and the child about the selection process and how much each can afford to contribute.

Of course, the children have obligations, too. They must be diligent and serious about their studies. They must apply for financial aid.

Often children are expected to work during the summer to help defray costs and to take loans which they will repay in the future.

How much each parent contributes and how much a child must earn and/or borrow is dependent on a multitude of factors. Among them are the parents’ respective incomes, assets and liabilities, the child’s ability to contribute to the educational expenses, the child’s relationship with each parent and, of course, the costs associated with the schools the child is considering.

When a child is estranged from a parent from whom a contribution is sought, the reasons for the estrangement take on significance. Is the child difficult and unappreciative? Did the PPR alienate the child from the PAR? Did the PAR alienate himself from the child? In several family court cases, conspiracy-like behavior between the child and the PPR to distance the PAR from the child’s life resulted in no contribution from such an alienated parent.

However, when the parent’s bad behavior caused the rift, the alienated parent will likely be required to contribute.

Another important factor is the age of the child at the time the parents are getting divorced.When the children are younger than fifteen or sixteen the issue is usually too speculative to resolve in a concrete way and must be postponed. Will the child’s grades qualify him/her for college? Which college?

How much will it cost when the child is college age? What will the parents’ respective financial abilities be at the time? When college is more imminent, these questions can be answered and the allocation of responsibility can be determined.

Adam Rechnitz A TRIUMPHANT LEADER IN THE HISTORY OF BREWPUBS

f you’re old enough to remember the 80s, you may recall the buzz around movies like Top Gun, wearing neon-colored…well, everything…as we danced to Let’s Get Physical, and either buying or receiving a home-brew kit for beer. Although enjoying the pleasure of alcohol started more than 7,000 years ago, in the beginning of 1979 it was still illegal in our country to brew your own beer at home.

President Jimmy Carter and the Cranston Act changed all that and ushered in the home-brew hobby craze that

reached its peak during the decade that followed. Soon the idea of craft beer, as it came to be called, as a viable local business took hold around the country and microbreweries and brewpubs began emerging in the 80s and 90s. As September is the traditional start of Octoberfest for all beer-loving enthusiasts, we at CM caught up with the man who pioneered the brewpub in New Jersey.

He owns Triumph in Red Bank, the oldest continually operating brewpub brand in our state. Settle back, pour yourself a pint, and meet your neighbor Adam Rechnitz.

CM: Where does one go to school to learn how to be a brew master?

Adam: Well, in my case, first I learned how to philosophize. I attended Trinity College in Hartford, CT and graduated with a degree in philosophy. Then I attended University of California, Davis and took various courses in brewing science. I worked for two years as a production brewer in Seattle and then completed the Siebel Institute’s Diploma Program in Brewing Science in 1992 and began a brewery consulting business.

CM: You started your first brewpub soon after…

Adam: Yes, but it took some work. The same year I earned my Siebel diploma, 1992, I founded the Garden State Craft Brewers Guild to lobby for changes in the law to create a new license for a new kind of entity called a brewpub – a restaurant and full bar with a brewery inside of it. Before then, it wasn’t legal in New Jersey. Governor James Florio signed the bill into law in 1993. Triumph was the first licensed brewpub in the state and opened its first location in Princeton in March of 1995. I’m happy to say Triumph is the oldest continually operating brewpub in the state.

CM: What’s the meaning behind the name?

There was significant opposition against changing the law that allowed brewpubs to operate. So that was part of it…we were triumphant. I was also looking for a slightly British sounding name as we were brewing mostly English-style ales in the beginning.

Adam:

CM: Why take on the battle? Why not open just a restaurant or just a brewery?

The craft-beer revolution had already begun when I was in college in Adam:

the mid-80s. Anchor, Sierra Nevada, and New Albion were brewing on the West Coast and East Coast beer importers responded with never-before-seen beers from the UK, Belgium, and Germany. I was awash in it all. When people ask me how I came to own these brewpubs I tell them that my homebrewing just got out of control. As a brewing consultant I was paid to be the hired gun working behind the scenes. I saw many brewpub operations around the country at the time and thought to myself that I’d like to step out from behind the curtain, taking everything I had learned in both brewing and business, and give it a go.

CM: You started in the college

it became the quality of the experience that kept them coming back. The New Hope, PA location opened in 2003. The Red Bank location opened in November of 2018.

CM: Why Red Bank, and what about the town is special to you?

Red Bank is my hometown; I was born in Riverview. My family lived in Oak Hill (Middletown) and my siblings and I went through the public school system. My brother and I rode our bikes everywhere, and Red Bank was where we would go to hang out with friends. So, I have fond memories of the place and even though it’s changed a lot, it’s still home to me.

Adam:

Adam: The Princeton brewpub opened in 1995 and was the first. It was an immediate hit with the public; at first because of the novelty; no one had seen a full-scale brewery operating inside of a restaurant. When the novelty wore off,

CM: What sets you, and Triumph, apart from others doing what you do?

Adam: What sets Triumph apart from many brewpubs is that we are not shooting at the lowest common denominator.

I think sometimes Triumph throws the public a bit of a curveball because even today beer still gets treated in this country as a less sophisticated drink than wine or liquor. As a result, the public’s expectation for menu offerings is fairly low. They expect nachos, wings, burgers – traditional pub food. This is partly a result of the mass marketing by the major industrial brewers; a milder product will have the greatest potential appeal.

It’s a shame because as many people have learned during this craft-brew renaissance, beer pairs better than wine with many dishes, especially spicier ones like Indian, Thai, and Mexican. Furthermore, I just don’t think the area needs yet another casual restaurant and bar serving mass market beers and a pub menu. I want more interesting food on the menu, and I want service to be a little more polished, even though execution can prove difficult in current conditions.

I even want different music. I grew up with what has come to be known as classic rock; Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Stones, Tom Petty… but there is so much more interesting music out there. So, much of the music we play both canned and live is of a much wider variety, including jazz and bluegrass.

CM: What’s your favorite aspect of Triumph?

Triumph is not a nano or microbrewery that serves only its own beer. We are a restaurant with a brewery inside of it. We have a liquor license that allows us to function as a full-service restaurant; we serve wine and cocktails made with botanicals from our extensive garden, and serve lunch, dinner and brunch five days a week. We have daily seasonal specials on our menu, host live original music Thursday through Saturday and eschew cover bands.

CM: What comes next?

Growing the business and becoming more a part of the fabric of the community. Triumph was closed entirely to the public from March of 2020 until May of 2021. So, it’s felt like we’re really starting over. I like being in town rather than out on Route 35. Being part of a community and giving back to it has always been important to me. I’m looking forward to continuing to partner with different civic groups and associations.

I’m married to a beautiful woman, Liz, and have a beautiful daughter, Esme, and two wire-haired fox terriers, Tilly and Popeye. My wife and I love to garden; we have a garden for perennials and a large vegetable garden. Composted spent mash from the brewery and vegetable trimmings from Triumph’s kitchen wind up back in the garden feeding vegetables, some of which end up back in Triumph’s kitchen. It’s nice to ‘close the loop’ this way. Giving back, however you can, is something I learned from my parents.

Adam:

Parker Family Health Center to Expand The Parker Family Health Center (PFHC) is expanding and renovating its medical clinic.

Details of the project were shared with friends and supporters at Parker’s Summer Celebration, held last month at the Navesink Country Club in Middletown.

Parker’s expansion will provide for more exam rooms as well as private consultation and telehealth areas. New exam rooms are expected to increase existing patient visits from 7,400 to nearly 10,000 annually. Renovation plans include new multipurpose spaces allowing for an expanded Covid vaccination program and educational classes open to patients and community members.

The expansion will include a new 2875 square foot two-story building with additional parking spaces. Programmatic enhancements will include dedicated space for expanded mental health services and phlebotomy (blood tests), a critical service just recently added onsite. Plans also include upgrading the heating and air-conditioning systems and modernizing all IT, safety, and security systems. Existing medical equipment will be upgraded to support professional evaluations, assessments, and treatment options.

Parker is proud to be supported by Dorothea Bongiovi, Parker’s Honorary Capital Campaign Chair, as well as Carol Stillwell and Peter Graham, Jr., Campaign Co-Chairs. In addition, Parker is honored to be one of four 2021 Impact 100 Jersey Coast grant recipients. The $110,000 award will be used to help kick start the much-needed expansion.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for this fall with completion anticipated in 15 to 18 months.

“The expansion will be a transformative moment in Parker’s history,” said Executive Director Suzy Dyer, Esq, CHC. “The ability to be responsive to the ever-growing demand for medical care for those who are unable to afford it will better position us to meet our mission promise. Our patients rely on us every day, and this expansion will make sure we are here for them.”

Parker continues to support Monmouth County residents who have no health insurance or the means to pay for medical care. Offering a broad range of services, the medical center was conceived 23 years ago by Dr. Eugene Cheslock, a retired oncologist, who, along with local leaders and other physicians, was determined to provide a medical clinic for the community’s least fortunate.

In July 2000, the clinic opened in a small trailer and three years later moved to its current facility on Shrewsbury Avenue. The clinic has been seeing patients in this building ever since.

Holmdel Hornets Practice Teamwork On & Off the Field

“Don’t be afraid to lead,” “Take this opportunity to help out a neighbor in need,” “Support the community that supports you,” are just a few of the directives that Jeff Rainess, Head Coach of the Holmdel High School Football Team espouses during practice, pre-game, and in the weight room throughout the year. Those phrases were put into action this summer as members of the Holmdel High School Football Team – Community Outreach Squad, in conjunction with the Holmdel Half Century Club, visited residents’ homes and undertook yard clean-up projects and home improvement chores. The brainchild of rising Junior Andrew Piscatelli (Class of 2024), the Community Outreach Squad was established with one goal in mind: to support the local community and particularly the older demographic. “Seeing how my grandparents struggle to keep up their own yard gave me the idea,” said Andrew Piscatelli. Andrew’s grandparents, longtime residents Andrew and Janet Piscatelli, have supported youth and high school football for more than 60 years.

“Our work really shows the community how much we appreciate their support of us and hopefully brought a few elderly residents who have lost touch with the schools and kids of our town back into the mix. We invited each one to come to our home games to watch us play and enjoy the band, cheerleader, dance team performances,” shared Andrew. Andrew learned the value of community firsthand about six years ago, after the community stepped up to offer support to his family following a devastating fire that burnt their new house to the ground and his father suffering from a catastrophic autoimmune disease, from which he has fully recovered. He was only nine years old, and his sister was six. “Our family and community network jumped in to help, while my mother cared for my father.”

Piscatelli noted there is a tremendous benefit to the team in doing a project like this. Citing Vince Lombardi’s famous quote- “Leaders are made, they are not born,” Andrew saw this as a great first step in establishing leadership habits for the upcoming football season, especially for the younger players. “It builds camaraderie among the guys and allows teammates to come together well before we step onto the field.”

Andrew is happiest when with his teammates and recognizes the unique relationships the players enjoy with one another.

“The Upperclassmen never attempt to bully or haze the younger players. We have more of a mentor-mentee relationship with the younger kids. Do we bicker? Of course! We’re like brothers! We’re like a family!” Given reports in the news of football program bullying, hazing, and outright physical assault, it is not lost upon these student-athletes that they have a strong support system in each other.

“We laugh together a lot, but when something bad happens to someone or their family, we cry together too, and pick them and each other right back up.”

Andrew not only loves his team, “I love football itself,” he explained, “Not just the games, but I love what it teaches.” When asked to clarify he responded without hesitation, “Football teaches – well, actually demandscommitment, tenacity, handling of adversity, learning to become physical in an otherwise passive world, leadership, teamwork, attention to detail, structure, time management, and my favorite of all – establishing personal goals.”

When asked what he sees for himself in the future, he responded with a smile and shook his head. “I don’t know. Truthfully, I’m figuring that all out now. I would like to play college football and basketball, but I know that is not very realistic and I am probably better suited for football.” As an honors student, Andrew has many academic options. “Wherever I go, I know I will take with me to college, and beyond, the many lessons I’ve learned as a football player.”

James Menake Opens Cafe on Earle Naval Base

By LiliAnn Paras The service members and civilian workers at Naval Weapons Station Earle are enjoying delicious fare at the Navy St. Cafe which opened this January. James Menake, only 21 years old, won the bid to operate the cafe at the base and does so while currently attending Rutgers University, majoring in human resource management with a minor in psychology. As if that weren’t enough, he also takes care of five birds, one lizard, three dogs, and one cat at his Colts Neck home where he lives with parents, Lori and Daniel and two younger siblings, Tatum and Danny. CM learned what inspired this enterprising young man to undertake this venture.

CM: What motivated you to bid on opening a cafe at the Naval Base?

James: I have always cared about our troops. From a very young age whenever I saw someone in the service, I always thanked them for all they do. Also in high school, my friend started a club called Support Our Troops. Through that club, I was able to help with organizing events to gather donations for our troops.

CM: What in your background prepared you for the operation of a cafe?

James: I grew up with a great interest in the food industry.

Prior to opening the Navy St. Cafe, I have always loved to cook and bake. My mom previously owned a restaurant in New York which is why in order to do this, I needed her on board. My mom used to work for the Colts Neck Department of Transportation and learned about the opportunity for a cafe. I found out a month after I placed the bid that I had won. I was ecstatic that at the young age of 21 I would own a cafe on a naval base.

CM: Who are your customers and what does the cafe offer?

James: You need a base pass to get onto the Naval Base, so our clientele consists of mostly those in the navy and civilians who work on the base. The cafe serves breakfast and lunch and we are open from 7 am-2 pm, Monday through Friday.

CM: What do you love most about this venture?

James: The thing I love the most is that I am able to give back to those who work so hard to keep our country safe. I have always supported small businesses and now run one of my own.

CM: What is the most challenging part of owning the cafe?

James: The most challenging part has been juggling all my responsibilities such as attending Rutgers full time, caring for my animals, and running a successful small business in my community.

CM: Who has most inf luenced your career and life?

James: My parents and my grandfather have had the most inf luence on my career and life. All of them have worked very hard while also giving back to their communities. My grandfather was the one who taught me how to cook.

CM: Do you have a philosophy that guides you?

James: My philosophy is to always be nice to people and treat others how you would want to be treated.

R ecently, I came across a simple piece of money advice from billionaire entrepreneur shark Mark Cuban on his blog that I felt resonated in today’s money-stressed world.

Cuban answers the age-old question from an elementary school student… “so what should you do to get rich?” His answer? “First and foremost,” he said, “save your money.

Save and safely invest as much money as you possibly can.

Every penny you can. Instead of coffee, drink water. Instead of going to McDonald’s, eat mac and cheese. Cut up your credit cards. If you use a credit card, you don’t want to be rich. The first step to getting rich requires discipline.

If you really want to be rich, you need to find and stay disciplined.”

Pretty simple advice, but hard to pull off for many adults. Indeed, plenty of pros, including myself agree with him that saving money can make you, if not rich, then at least richer. So, what does it take to create the discipline to save money early and often? Just like any other diet and addiction - the first step is you have to want to make a change. So ask yourself: Do I really want or need to do this? And like any diet, the answer is, do it for your health – your future (emotional and financial) overall health.

What will it mean for your family and your life to have money “banked”? How will it improve your life in a meaningful way? If it won’t, then you have no incentive – this is where everyone falls off the “financial diet” – they fail to have the patience, and don’t see or feel “results”. Many people have the discipline to strong-arm themselves into short-term change (like a New Year’s resolution diet), but they often lack the patience when they don’t see results, and they don’t last. This is a case where a person needs to slow down to go fast. The results are that people who spend many dollars and many years trying to obtain wealth (and health) via short cuts, could have reached that goal if they slowed down and looked under their psychological hood.

Any time you change a habit (a dietary or money habit),

it’s going to feel weird. You’re going to have to change your lifestyle (comfort zone) in some way, so having a good reason for making that type of change is good to focus on – something big. Perhaps it’s self-directed incentive like a beach house, or a vineyard in Tuscany, or a trip around the world (while you’re young and mobile enough to enjoy it).

When we do professional planning, we make people look at recurring spending to see if there is stuff you’re paying for that you no longer need or can be changed (like car/ home insurance, cable bill, cell phone bill). This is good to do periodically, like every year on your birthday (or at least ones that end in 0 or 5). How about this? Something small… how about making coffee at home instead of picking it up, or eating/cooking more at home instead of eating out one more night a week. Even though these tasks seem small, it is the habit that is the most difficult to change. Sure, you’ll say, “I don’t have time”. Ah! Perhaps that’s the rebalance and reprioritizing that is the ultimate wealth or what makes us truly rich – having more time. Money doesn’t buy you time – only you can buy your time.

Be kind to yourself and understand that most of us are hardwired to discount the future. We are still wired for prehistoric life - worrying about today at the expense of today (eat what you kill, instant gratification mindset).

Our cave-person brains haven’t yet adapted to the current world. There are no shortcuts or elevators in life – take the stairs. Someone very smart once told me, “When it’s important enough, you find the time”. Be that time with friends and family or making a cup of coffee. The first half of your life you fight for your wealth – the second half of your life you fight for health. What half are you in? Life is short and pretty important to those that love us. Find the time.

Jacquie Dalton, Holmdel resident and Founder and CEO of SPARROW Executive Jets hosted SPARROW Jubilee, an exclusive gathering held this summer at the Montecalvo family’s private estate in Atlantic Highlands. Guests included top SPARROW supporters as well as community leaders who understand the value of paying it forward. The garden party offered bourbon tastings, hand-rolled cigars, rosé wines from Provence, and specialty Rolls-Royce and Bentley car displays.

Mission Meow to Transform the Way Businesses Donate To Animal Causes Mission Meow, a newly formed nonprofit, is slated to launch next month. Mission Meow will be partnering with businesses to crowd-fund donations for feline-centric nonprofits. By doing so, the level of charitable donations to these organizations will increase significantly, creating meaningful change for cats in need. Rumson resident Sally Williams, the former Founder and President of The Brodie Fund, is spearheading this new venture.

“The challenges that small nonprofits face have steadily increased the past few years especially in the cat community and Mission Meow will be a lifeline for those organizations,” said Williams.

“Mission Meow will identify and work with businesses, aggregating their donations and granting them to small rescues in need of financial support.”

Mission Meow will be partnering with businesses of all sizes in a unique and structured monthly “crowd funding” initiative. This method of hosting monthly fundraisers and then organizing, collecting, and distributing funds will provide small rescues with a large cash infusion. These funds will facilitate meaningful change by funding shelter renovations, purchase of transport vehicles, and other projects that would otherwise not be possible.
