I am excited and honored to greet you as the new President/CEO of the Marble Falls/Highland Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce. While I’ve only recently stepped into this role, my connection to the Chamber runs deep. Over the past six years, I’ve proudly served as a volunteer, ambassador, board member, and Chairman. Those experiences have continually inspired me with the vibrancy of our organization and the incredible community we serve.
First, I want to extend sincere gratitude to Past President/CEO Jarrod Metzgar for his leadership and dedication. His work to strengthen and move the Chamber in a more “Member-Focused” direction laid a strong foundation I’m proud to build on.
My initial focus is to evaluate our internal operations, ensure our programs reflect best practices, and build a collaborative team ready to meet the evolving needs of our members and community.
The Chamber is more than an organization—it’s a vital bridge connecting local businesses, civic leaders, and the greater Highland Lakes region. With that in mind, we’re refreshing some of our current events, introducing exciting new initiatives, and expanding member benefits. Our goal remains the same: to deliver greater value to our members and our community.
Looking ahead, we are committed to strengthening our business environment, supporting sustainable growth, and ensuring the Chamber remains a trusted voice and resource in the Highland Lakes.

Nestled on the shores of Lake Marble Falls and surrounded by the beautiful waters of Lake LBJ to the north and Lake Travis to the south, our community is where business, industry, adventure, and small-town charm converge.
Marble Falls serves as the regional economic hub for the Highland Lakes area, with a trade area of over 121,000 people and more than $3.6 million in daily gross sales. Our area boasts incredible scenery, sustainable growth, and unmatched recreational opportunities—making it one of the best places in Texas to live, work, and play.
From parks and hiking trails to water sports, dining, and shopping, there’s something here for everyone. Our community continues to thrive thanks to the dedication of the Marble Falls/Highland Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, its Board of Directors, staff, and our committed members. We are proud to support local businesses through education, networking, and promotion while attracting visitors through our signature events.

Marble Falls was named for the waterfalls now located at the bottom of Lake Marble Falls. As early as 1817 the falls were used as a landmark by travelers and were referred to as the "great falls" or the "marble falls" of the Colorado River. Though they are now underwater, they are revealed every few years when the lake is lowered by the LCRA for repairs.
Beginning in the early days of the Texas Republic, the area was colonized by Germans, farmers, and ranchers. In addition, a small colony was established by early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints (Mormons) in the early 1850s. Both of these groups aided greatly in the area development and still have an important impact and presence here today.
Charles S. Todd made an effort to establish a town at the falls in 1854. Several lots were sold, but few homes were built, so "Todd's Village" faded before it ever really started. Eventually the land was sold to pay taxes. Later in 1854, Adam R. “Stovepipe” Johnson saw the falls and officially named the area "Marble Falls." He wanted to build a town on the site, but his project remained a dream until the 1880s. There was some difficulty in establishing a clear title to the land, but by 1886 Johnson succeeded in buying one-half and controlling the rest of the original Baker grant, which included the falls area.
In June 1887, Johnson and nine other investors chartered the Texas Mining & Improvement Company to handle the business of the new town. In July of that year, lots in the new town were advertised for sale.
Within just three years, Marble Falls had Methodist and Baptist churches, a cotton gin, a gristmill, a tannery, a shoe factory, three general stores, a hotel, a weekly newspaper, and 400+ residents.
In 1891, the Marble Falls Alliance University was chartered, but was in operation only a few years. Its facilities were later purchased by the public school system when an independent school district was formed.
A mayor-alderman form of government was instituted, and in 1907 the first city officials were elected.
On February 2, 1917, Ophelia “Birdie” Harwood became mayor of Marble Falls - three years before women had the right to vote. She was the first female mayor in Texas and the first in the United States to be seated by an all-male electorate.
It was Granite Mountain, the 866 ft. stone monolith looming on the western edge of the town, that secured Marble Falls’ place in Texas history. It was here that granite for the Galveston Seawall was quarried as well as the famed “Texas Red Sunset” granite used to construct the Texas State Capitol Building.
The stone was donated to the citizens of Texas
from the progressive area owners in exchange for a rail connection from Austin to the mountain. Blacks, Hispanics, Scots and early U.S. immigrants worked to develop granite as a big commercial endeavor.
The Austin & Northwestern Railroad built a passenger extension from Granite Mountain to Marble Falls in 1889, which further opened the area to commerce. A post office was also established that year.
Granite Mountain is actively quarried today and a variety of granite products are shipped all over the world.
You will find over 30 Texas Historic Markers in the area. Marker sites include: several for activities or construction before 1900, locations of historically significant events as well as several churches, homes and business buildings.

The Marble Falls / Highland Lakes Chamber of Commerce, established in 1959, is the largest non-profit business organization in the Highland Lakes. The Chamber of Commerce is not a branch of the local government, as we are a private non-profit, but we work closely with the city to ensure a healthy business environment for our members.
The purpose of the Chamber is to advocate the general welfare and prosperity of the citizens and all areas of its business community shall prosper. The Chamber is responsible for the beloved events in our community such as Battle on the Colorado Boat Races, Walkway of Lights and Mayfest for the enjoyment of our community, as well as encouraging commerce to enhance our beautiful lakeside town’s businesses.

Throughout the year, participants will travel to various sites, meeting the policy makers and trend setters in our community. They will interact with elected officials, city executives, business leaders, non-profit organization leaders and others who make our community work. Sessions have been designed to provide a solid foundation in the concepts and principles of leadership that will be addressed throughout the program as the participants are confronted with the daily issues that face our community.
It is hoped that graduates will use the insights and contacts they develop through this program to enhance performance in their current jobs and endeavors and enrich the community by involvement with local civic, government, business, religious and/or non-profit groups.

"There are so many exciting things happening in Marble Falls. The quality of life in Marble Falls makes Marble Falls a very desirable place to live, work, and visit. Our many parks, Lake Marble Falls, the Main Street Downtown District, and our schools are just a few reasons that so many people choose to raise their families here and call Marble Falls home.
As Marble Falls is being discovered by many, our City Development Services department is very busy working on many potential commercial and residential developments. With growth comes the need to continually
add to and upgrade the basic services we provide for the health and safety of our citizens and visitors. This includes streets, water, and wastewater services, as well as police and fire services. For example, we have begun construction on a new wastewater treatment plant, One Water, that will make Marble Falls a leader in water conservation and reuse, allowing us to thrive in a time when water is becoming more scarce and more valuable every day. Our goal is to welcome growth while preserving the small-town charm that Marble Falls has always been known for.
Lake Marble Falls is one of our most valuable assets. The Marble Falls Hotel and Conference Center is currently under construction to connect Main Street to Lake Marble Falls, which will continue to attract many visitors to stay overnight, enjoy the parks, and experience the dining and shopping options we have to offer. The Marble Falls Economic Development Corporation continues to
contribute to the development of additional lakefront park space. It is currently enhancing the existing parks with a new pedestrian bridge to connect Johnson Park and Lakeside Park.
With growth come many challenges, but the City of Marble Falls has a great group of dedicated employees and council members who are committed to serving our residents and visitors every day.

The Marble Falls area is experiencing a significant economic boom, driven by substantial investments in retail, housing, healthcare, and infrastructure.
A $130 million retail development, the Shops at Flatrock Crossing, is set to transform the local shopping landscape. The 350,000-square-foot center will feature national brands such as Academy Sports + Outdoors, TJ Maxx, Ulta Beauty, and a major grocery store. Expected to open by late 2025, the project is anticipated to generate over $1.75 billion in economic impact over the next decade and create a 1,000+ jobs.
The city’s population has surged by 13% since 2022, reaching an estimated 8,395 residents. To accommodate
this growth, approximately 1,661 apartment and multifamily housing units are currently under construction, with plans for more in the coming years. Developers are also eyeing new residential communities, reflecting high demand from young families, retirees, and remote workers drawn to the area’s scenic appeal and rising opportunities.
Healthcare infrastructure is also expanding. The Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Marble Falls is set to open a new 188,000-square-foot facility in August 2025, enhancing medical services for the growing community. The expansion is expected to attract additional healthcare professionals and related businesses, further strengthening the local economy.
The city is investing in infrastructure to support its growth. Plans include road improvements, utility upgrades, and broadband expansion to accommodate the increasing population and commercial activity. Marble Falls is also working to preserve its small-town charm while embracing modern development.

Developed by the City of Marble Falls with a use of 4A Economic Development Corporation tax revenue, this 300-acre park is fully served with utilities and streets to allow immediate access to Highway 281, the major north-south thoroughfare from Ft. CTC offers over 50 associate degree and certificate programs, including pathways in business, criminal justice, education, and prerequisites for the Associate Degree in Nursing program. The Parks and Recreation Department maintains approximately 150 acres of park land, sports parks, trails, greenbelts and facilities in Marble Falls. These parks collectively enhance the community's quality of life through accessible outdoor recreation.
Johnson Park features shaded picnic areas, playgrounds, a softball field, and a boat ramp. It hosts community events like Mayfest and the Summer Concert Series.
Westside Park, situated along Backbone Creek, offers a dog park, updated basketball court, playgrounds, and an 18-hole disc golf course.

For those interested in chasing the little white ball around some wonderful courses, five different ones can be encountered in the area. There are four 18-hole courses – Hidden Falls Marble Falls, Delaware Springs Burnet, The Legends Kingsland, The Lighthouse Kingsland plus one 9-hole course – Blue Lake Golf Club - with two sets of tees.
We may be named after a falls, but we've got a lake named after us! In addition to Lake Marble Falls, there are also three other beautiful lakes within a short drive: Lake LBJ, Inks Lake and Lake Buchanan. As you can imagine, there's no shortage of year-round sports,

Lakeside Park on Lake Marble Falls offers swimming access to the lake as well as several splash pools perfect for young children. Come wriggle your toes in the sandy beach, jump into Lake Marble Falls, or just take a dip in one of the wading pools. The park includes a roped-off swimming area so you can enjoy the lake without worrying about boats and other watercraft. You can also take a dip in the nearby pool which features a diving board, a water slide and a wading pool with a mushroom water feature for the little ones.
There are five parks located within 60 miles from town and the Hill Country scenery makes for a beautiful drive.
Colorado Bend State Park in Texas Hill Country offers hiking, biking, and stunning Gorman Falls. Visitors enjoy swimming holes, fishing, and guided cave tours. With over 5,300 acres, it’s perfect for primitive camping and outdoor adventures, providing a peaceful escape for nature lovers and thrill-seekers alike.
Enchanted Rock is a magical Texas state park in Hill Country known for its giant pink granite dome - the largest isolated pink granite dome in the United States. Hiking to the top of Enchanted Rock is one of the most
popular things to do in the park. The rock covers 640 acres and is 1,825 feet above sea level at its tallest! In addition to day access for hiking in Enchanted Rock, the park also offers camping, rock climbing and stargazing, it is an International Dark Sky Park!
Inks Lake State Park offers a variety of outdoor activities for visitors. The park features nearly 200 campsites and 22 cabins, many with lake access. Visitors can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking, with equipment rentals available. The park also offers ranger-led programs and is home to the scenic Devil’s Waterhole.
Longhorn Cavern State Park offers guided tours of a unique limestone cavern formed by an underground river system. Visitors can explore striking formations like the Queen’s Watchdog and the Underground Ballroom on the 90-minute Cavern Walking Tour. For a more adventurous experience, the Wild Cave Tour involves crawling through undeveloped sections of the cave. The park also features hiking trails, historic Civilian Conservation Corps structures, and a gift shop.
Pedernales Falls State Park has arguably some of the most beautiful and unique scenery in the Texas Hill Country. While the river itself is reason enough to visit the park, scenic trails wind through forests, atop ridges and along the riverside. You can cross its waterfalls, and delve into the nooks and crannies formed by the boulders in the riverbeds and along the shoreline.
Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls, Texas, is a familyfriendly destination offering seasonal produce picking, including strawberries, sunflowers, and pumpkins. Visitors can enjoy activities like the Texas-shaped maze, petting zoo, berry bounce, and barrel train. The farm also features homemade ice cream and picnic areas for a complete day of fun.
At the preserve, you not only witness a place of extraordinary beauty, you observe a living laboratory. You walk through hundreds of thousands of years of geologic formations as you hike to the bottom of the canyon and at the head of the canyon is a lush, wet grotto where you can see with your own eyes how the water cycle works. In 1965, Lady Bird Johnson planted wildflower seeds across America, and lucky for us, her Hill Country home received a little extra love. Bluebonnets, Texas Paintbrushes, Yuccas and many other wildflowers are painting landscapes all over Marble Falls. Breathe in their beautiful smells, snap all the photos - just don’t pick ‘em!
Each spring, people visit from all over to admire and photograph the beautiful wildflowers located all over the Hill Country. The challenge of the wildflower viewing is not just the finding and walking among them but doing so safely. To aid visitors and locals in search of the best and safest displays, the CVB investigates potential viewing areas for colors and variety and then makes the information available to those wishing to see beautiful expanses of nature’s artful works.

This annual event is a highlight of the summer in Marble Falls, offering a memorable way to celebrate America's birthday! Come celebrate at Lakeside Park with live music, food and a firework display over the lake! Fireworks will go off approximately 9:15 pm and last 15-20 minutes.
The Formula 1 Powerboat Championship will make its thrilling debut at the Battle on the Colorado on August 1–3, 2025. Held on the Colorado River at Lakeside Park, this adrenaline-packed event features high-speed powerboat racing, with boats reaching speeds up to 120 mph. Fans will enjoy intense competition from the premier Formula 1 Powerboats, along with support classes like Formula Lights and Tri Hulls. For those unable to attend, full live streaming will be available on the championship’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
The Marble Falls Fall Festival, held annually in Johnson Park, is a four-day celebration featuring carnival rides, live music, food trucks, market vendors, and games. It offers fun for all ages, creating a vibrant community atmosphere and welcoming visitors to enjoy the season’s festivities.
Each year, grill masters & chili culinarians converge at Lakeside Park & pavilion for the Howdy-Roo cook-off. With 150 cooks competing each year, it truly is a recipe for fun, laughter and spicy cuisine.
Take part in a true Texas tradition at the Marble Falls Rodeo, an open and pro-level event held on the 3rd weekend of July. Competitions include bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling and mutton busting. The event includes a rodeo parade, food/ drink vendors, a dance and live music.
Mayfest in Marble Falls is a four day community event in Johnson Park that features plenty of familyfriendly fun. Carnival rides and games, free concerts, and plenty of great food can be found during Mayfest. In addition, arts and crafts
vendors set up shop in downtown Marble Falls for Main Street Market Day on the last day of the event.
For one week in late March and early April, watch 40+ plein air artists painting at various area locations, purchase some pieces for your own collection, and enjoy everything else this event has to offer. You’ll see dozens of expert artists painting lakeside and other locations like Historic Main Street.
Sculpture On Main is a unique showing of public art within the Historic Downtown Marble Falls
area. The current sculpture display, juried in 2016, represents the best of artists from around the region. In addition to our rotating sculpture exhibit, mosaic pieces created and donated by Father Jairo Lopez are displayed on Main Street and within the Marble Falls Visitor Center.
The Marble Falls Walkway of Lights is one of the biggest holiday events in the Highland Lakes every year. Two million lights on more than 130 sculptures illuminate Lakeside Park beginning each year in November. Walkway of Lights runs 6-10 p.m. each day through the season - weather permitting.
