Met enige trots stel ik u Kortrijk voor.

Onze stad telt meer dan 75.000 inwoners en is daarmee de 14e grootste stad van België. Kortrijk bevindt zich in het zuiden van de provincie West-Vlaanderen, de provincie met de laagste werkloosheid van het land. De regio rond Kortrijk wordt in de volksmond wel eens het Texas van Vlaanderen genoemd.

Er is immers een grote concentratie aan multinationals, kmo’s en familiebedrijven. Die handelstraditie dankt Kortrijk aan haar historische voortrekkersrol in de vlasnijverheid.

Tegelijk grenzen wij aan de Franse grens. Vandaar ons stichtend lidmaatschap van de Eurometropool Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai, een grootstedelijke agglomeratie met maar liefst 78 miljoen consumenten.

Courtrai est située au sud de la province de Flandre-Occidentale, la province au taux de chômage le plus faible du pays.

La région autour de Courtrai est parfois familièrement désignée sous le nom de Texas des Flandres. On y trouve en effet une forte concentration de multinationales, de PME et d’entreprises familiales. Courtrai doit cette tradition commerciale à son rôle historique de pionnier dans l’industrie du lin. Nous sommes également à deux pas de la frontière française, d’où notre adhésion fondatrice à l’Eurométropole LilleKortrijk-Tournai, une agglomération de grandes villes qui compte pas moins de 78 millions de consommateurs.

I am proud to present you the city of Kortrijk. Our city boasts a population of more than 75.000 inhabitants, making it the 14th largest city of Belgium.

It is in the south of the province of West-Flanders, the province that has the lowest unemployment figures in Belgium.

Kortrijk and the surrounding region is often referred to as the Texas of Flanders. There is a large concentration of multinationals, SME’s and family businesses. That mercantile tradition is rooted in Kortrijk’s historical pioneering role in the flax industry.

Our city is strategically located on the French border. That’s why we are a founding member of the Eurometropole Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai, a metropolitan agglomeration of no less than 78 million consumers.

Kinderen krijgen in Kortrijk alle ruimte om te spelen. In het groen in de parken en op speelpleinen. Zoals op het zomerspeelplein op de Grote Markt. De buurten hangen sterk aan elkaar en zijn georganiseerd in wijk- en straatcomités die zelf mogen beslissen over investeringen in hun wijk.

À Courtrai, les enfants disposent de tout l’espace de jeu nécessaire, dans la verdure des parcs et sur les plaines de jeux, notamment la plaine de jeu estivale Grand-Place. Les quartiers sont très solidaires, et sont organisés en comités de quartier et de rue qui peuvent décider eux même des investissements qui les concernent.

Children have a lot of room to play in Kortrijk. In our green parks and in playing grounds. Like the summer playing ground in the central city square. The neighbourhoods are closely knit and are organized in neighbourhood and street comities.

These can decide for themselves about the investments in their area.

La ville de Courtrai dispose de deux universités et de deux établissements d’enseignement supérieur, avec un large éventail de formations pour les nombreux étudiants qui y vivent. L’existence de formations uniques, combinées en pollinisation croisée avec le secteur public, offre un potentiel pour des spinoffs créatives.

The city of Kortrijk has two universities and two colleges of higher education with a high variety of courses for the many students in our city. The existence of unique courses combined with cross-pollinations with the private sector creates a high potential for creative spin-offs.

Al eeuwen is Kortrijk het centrum van de handelsactiviteiten in de regio. Eerst dankzij haar leidersrol in de modernisering van de textiel- en vlasnijverheid, daarna als belangencentrum van de vele hieruit ontwikkelde industrieën, zoals machinebouw en kunststoffen.

Courtrai est depuis des siècles le centre des activités commerciales de la région, tout d’abord grâce à son rôle de premier plan dans la modernisation de l’industrie du textile et du lin, puis comme centre d’intérêt des nombreuses industries qui en ont découlé, notamment la construction mécanique et les matières plastiques.

Kortrijk is the center of trade in the region, as it has been for centuries. At first it was due to her leading role in the modernization of the textile and flax industry, later on it became the headquarters of many of the industries that developed from this, such as machine building and plastics.

In het hart van de stad rijst te midden van het handelskwartier het shopping center ‘K in Kortrijk’ op, waardoor de binnenstad nog steeds het drukst bezochte winkelwandelgebied van de streek is.

Rond de binnenstad liggen verschillende, modern uitgeruste bedrijventerreinen met een vlotte ontsluiting naar de belangrijkste autosnelwegen en verkeersassen.

Op ‘Hoog Kortrijk’ liggen de beurshallen van Kortrijk Xpo. Met 8 zalen en 55.000 m2 expositieruimte is dit één van de grootste beurscomplexen van de Benelux. Hier vinden er verschillende internationale beurzen plaats zoals Matexpo, Busworld, Biënnale Interieur, Velofollies,...

Het is de stad waar wereldspelers zoals textielmachinebouwer Van De Wiele en visualisatie-expert Barco hun hoofdkwartier hebben én houden.

Au cœur de la ville, en plein quartier commerçant, s’élève le centre commercial ‘K in Kortrijk’, grâce auquel le centre-ville reste le quartier commerçant le plus fréquenté de la région.

Le centre est entouré de plusieurs zones industrielles modernes, avec un accès rapide aux principales autoroutes et artères.

Les halls d’exposition de Kortrijk Xpo sont situés à ‘Hoog Kortrijk’.

Avec 8 salles et 55.000 m2 d’espace d’exposition, il s’agit de l’un des plus grands complexes d’exposition du Benelux. Plusieurs salons internationaux s’y déroulent, dont notamment Matexpo, Busworld, Biënnale Interieur, Velofollies,...

C’est aussi la ville où des acteurs mondiaux tels que le constructeur de machines à tisser Van De Wiele et l’expert en visualisation Barco ont et conservent leur siège.

In the heart of the city, in the middle of the shopping district, we have the shopping center ‘K in Kortrijk’. This makes the city center the most visited shopping area in the region.

At the outskirts of the city we have many, modernly equipped business parks. They are well connected to the main highways.

On ‘Hoog Kortrijk’ we have the exposition halls of Kortrijk Xpo. With 8 halls and 55.000 m² of space it’s one of the biggest of its kind in the Benelux.

Many international fairs take place here such as Matexpo, Busworld, Design Biennale Interieur, Velofollies, etc.

It’s the city where world players such as textile machine builder Van De Wiele and visualization expert Barco have and keep their headquarters.

As a creative city, Kortrijk has already received many prizes:

• Shop & Go, een intelligent systeem van digitaal bovengronds kortparkeren ten voordele van de kleinhandelszaken. De stad mocht voor dit project een prijs ontvangen van Agoria, de Belgische technologiefederatie, en de bank Belfius en een prijs van Unizo, de nationale federatie voor kleinhandelszaken.

• Kortrijk Zaait, een stadsinitiatief om leegstaande winkelpanden om te vormen tot ruimtes voor creatieve starters.

• Voor de gedurfde invulling van het ecologisch stadspark op Campus Kortrijk Weide kreeg het bestuur een prijs van Vlaams minister van Milieu ter waarde van € 250.000.

• Het participatieproject ‘Kortrijk Spreekt’ en de bijhorende Budgetgames die de actievere deelname van de inwoners stimuleren, leverde ons dan weer de ‘Thuis in de Stad 2014’-prijs op. Een prijs van de Vlaamse minister van Stedenbeleid voor onze vernieuwde vorm van directe democratie.

• Shop & Go est un système intelligent de stationnement de courte durée numérique au profit des petits commerces. Ce projet a valu deux prix à la ville : l’un décerné par Agoria, la fédération de l’industrie technologique belge, et par la banque Belfius, et l’autre décerné par l’Unizo, l’organisation nationale des entrepreneurs indépendants.

• Kortrijk Zaait, une initiative de la ville visant à transformer des immeubles commerciaux vacants en espaces pour starters créatifs.

• Pour la réalisation audacieuse du parc public écologique du Campus Kortrijk Weide, l’administration a été récompensée par un prix de la ministre flamande de l’Environnement d’une valeur de 250.000 euros.

• Le projet participatif ‘Kortrijk Spreekt’ et les Budgetgames inhérents qui stimulent la participation active des habitants nous ont valu le prix ‘Thuis in de Stad 2014’, un prix du ministre flamand de la Politique urbaine qui récompense notre nouvelle forme de démocratie directe.

Kortrijk ligt aan de rivier de Leie die via de Schelde en het toekomstig kanaal Seine-Nord, Antwerpen met Parijs verbindt. Het water wordt terug de stad in getrokken. Op Buda Beach is het ‘s zomers zalig relaxen met een cocktail langs het water. De verlaagde en vergroende Leieboorden zorgen voor een rustgevende oase in het centrum.

Zes nieuwe bruggen over de Leie geven de rivier een moderne toets.

Courtrai est située au bord de la Lys laquelle, via l’Escaut et le futur canal Seine-Nord, relie Anvers à Paris. L’eau revient à l’avant-plan dans la ville. Il fait bon se relaxer en été sur Buda Beach, avec un cocktail au bord de l’eau. Les rives abaissées et reverdies de la Lys sont une oasis de paix dans le centreville. Six nouveaux ponts enjambant la Lys confèrent une touche moderne à la rivière.

Kortrijk lies on the banks of the river Leie. The Leie will connect Antwerp and Paris via the Scheldt and the future channel Seine-Nord. The water will be pulled back into the city. It’s great to relax in the summer with a cocktail along the water on Buda Beach. The lowering of the Leie banks will bring an oasis of green and quiet in the city center. Six new bridges crossing the Leie, give the river a modern touch.

Die moderne en groene invulling zien we terug bij heel wat nieuwe projecten langs het water. De voormalige internaattoren van het college wordt in de toekomst een moderne woontoren van 65 meter, K-Tower genaamd. Op de Blekerijsite komen eveneens 2 woontorens die een nieuwe invulling geven aan wonen in het stadscentrum.

Nous retrouvons ces concepts modernes et verts dans de nombreux projets des bords de l’eau. L’ancienne tour de l’internat du collège sera prochainement convertie en une tour résidentielle de 65 mètres de haut, la K-Tower. Sur le site de Blekerij seront créées deux autres tours résidentielles, qui donneront un nouveau sens à la vie au centre-ville.

A lot of projects along the water have that modern and green touch. The former boarding school tower of the Sint-Amandscollege will be turned into a 65 meter residential tower, called K-Tower. The Blekerijsite will also have two residential towers that give a new meaning to living in the city center.

Met deze en nog vele andere projecten langs het water geven we de Leie terug aan de mensen.

Avec ce projet et bien d’autres au bord de l’eau, nous rendons la Lys aux habitants.

With these and many more projects along the water, we give the Leie back to the people.

Op een voormalig terrein van de nationale spoorwegmaatschappij creëren we een volledig nieuwe stadswijk, Campus Kortrijk Weide.

Hier combineren we onderwijs, sport-ontspanning en groen in één site met een olympisch zwembad, een ecologisch stadspark, een evenementenplein, een incubatiecentrum,…

Nous créons un tout nouveau quartier, le Campus Kortrijk Weide, sur un ancien site de la compagnie nationale des chemins de fer. Nous y combinons éducation, sport, détente et espaces verts en un seul site, avec une piscine olympique, un parc public écologique, un espace d’événements, un centre d’incubation, etc.

On the former grounds of the national railway company we will create a completely new city quarter: Campus Kortrijk Weide. Here we combine education, sport, entertainment and green space in one location with an olympic size swimming pool, een ecological city park, an event square, an incubation center for new high-tech companies, etc.

Samen met een vernieuwd station en -omgeving wordt dit de toegangspoort tot Nieuw Kortrijk.

Avec une nouvelle gare et son environnement rénovés, cet endroit deviendra le portail d’accès à Nieuw Kortrijk.

Verder volgen er nog ontwikkelingen langs de Leie en verlagen we de Leieboorden voor de Broeltorens om de beleving van het water terug aan de mensen te geven.

D’autres développements suivront le long de la Lys, et nous abaissons les rives de la rivière en face des tours Broel afin de rendre aux gens l’expérience de l’eau.

There are other developments along the Leie and we also lower the banks of the Leie in front of the Broel Towers to return to the people the experience of the water.

Beleving en ambiance is waar het om gaat. Kortrijk moet aangenaam zijn om in te wonen. We brengen daarom de auto’s ondergronds met maar liefst 2.000 nieuwe plaatsen en zorgen zo voor meer groen op de pleinen.

C’est bien d’expérience et d’ambiance dont il s’agit. Courtrai doit être agréable à vivre, c’est pourquoi nous prévoyons des parkings souterrains pour les voitures, avec pas moins de 2.000 emplacements nouveaux, et offrons en contrepartie plus d’espaces verts en surface.

Kortrijk has to be a great city to live in.

That’s why we are creating 2.000 new parking spaces underground, to create more green spaces in the city squares.

Along with a complete renewal of the railway station and its surroundings, this will be the gateway to New Kortrijk.
