Over the past decade, science has found the following symptoms are much more likely to occur in women with ovarian cancer than women in the general population: • Bloating • Pelvic or abdominal pain • Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly • Urinary symptoms (urgency or frequency) Several other symptoms have been commonly reported and they include fatigue, indigestion, back pain, pain with intercourse, constipation or diarrhea, menstrual irregularities, weight gain or loss, and shortness of breath. See your doctor, preferably a gynecologist, if these symptoms are unusual for you and persist for more than a few weeks. Experts suggest getting the following tests: • A transvaginal ultrasound, CA-125 blood test and manual pelvic and rectal exam. • A pap smear will not detect ovarian cancer. • Any woman at risk, suspected or diagnosed with ovarian cancer should consult a gynecologic oncologist. Studies show survival rates are significantly better for women with ovarian cancer that are treated by a gynecologic oncologist.

“… Wilt thou be made whole?” – John 5:6 (K.J.V.) Wholeness may be defined as being well in mind, body and spirit. It is something most of us strive for. God wants us to be whole. An example of this is the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Jesus ministered to the whole person. For example, in the story of the healing at the pool, Jesus asked, “Do you want to be made whole?” We have known persons to be sick in body yet sweet in spirit. On the surface such persons would have every reason to complain to God. The classic example is Job in the Old Testament. He lost his wealth, his health and his family. Even his friends blamed him for his condition. He refused to be bitter and chose rather to be better. In spite of his suffering, Job said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him” (Job 13:15). We can move toward wholeness by making wise decisions. For example, we can choose to renew our minds through worship (Romans 12:1, 2). We can decide to strengthen our bodies (I Corinthians 9:26, 27; 3John 2) for service in God’s kingdom. We can choose godly counsel to heal our emotions (Proverbs 12:15). Let’s take a closer look:
Clarence “Cookie” and Roberta “Bobbie” Cook
of Kalamazoo were married for 67 years when she passed away on Saturday June 2, 2018 at Borgess Hospital. Bobbie had a love for birds and she recorded the bird sightings in her backyard sanctuary for 30 years for the Michigan Audubon Society through the Kalamazoo Nature Center. She was preceded in death by their infant daughter Patricia Sue (1954), sons Roger Lyne (1978) and Robert Earl (2015). Surviving are her husband “Cookie”; son Richard and his wife, Joni of Otsego; daughter-in-law, Sally of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren and many great-grand children.

SPIRIT Seeking and following godly advice enables our spirits to be restored. The healing of damaged emotions puts us into a right frame of mind so that we can become the whole persons God created us to be.
Some years ago a film came out entitled “Mr. Holland’s Opus.” The title role was played by Richard Dreyfuss. It was filmed near Portland, Oregon. Glenn Holland (Dreyfuss) was a high school music teacher who dreamed of writing his own composition. He kept working on it, teaching it to his students. However his dream was shattered when music was eliminated from the school budget. On his last teaching day, his former and present students gathered to honor him by playing his very own musical composition. A former student, the Governor of Oregon, stood at the podium and spoke to his legacy and invited him to direct Mr. Holland’s Opus (“The American Symphony”). There was a powerful line in the story when the governor said, “Mr. Holland, we are your opus.” In the spiritual realm, we are all members of God’s orchestra. Together with other believers, we can make beautiful music for God. Prayer: Dear Lord, may we find our fulfillment and completion in You. Amen.

John passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born January 18, 1945 in Chicago the son of Elliott and Virginia (Sims) Jaeger. John proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp in Vietnam in communications from 1967 to 1970. John loved to run. He attended DePaul University with a track and field scholarship and is a member of their Athletic Hall of Fame. He had worked at Pipp Hospital in Plainwell and at the VA Hospital in Battle Creek until his retirement in 2009. He was an accomplished artist and loved to paint and draw. Many of his paintings have been shown locally and he has a piece in this year’s Art Prize in Grand Rapids. John enjoyed following the Chicago sports teams especially the Cubs and also Michigan State University. On November 20, 1992 at the United Methodist Church of Otsego he married Judy (Stoneburner) Hunt who survives. Also surviving are his children, Bill Jaeger of Coldwater, Tim (Ruth) Jaeger of TN, Becky (Ryan) Gottried of NC, Ruth Rozankovich of Kalamazoo and Charlie (Blair) Hunt of Wyoming; grandchildren, Ty, Hannah, Nolan, Micah, Abigail, Roseanne and Reuben; sister, Sue (Cliff) Miller of Ann Arbor and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may meet with John’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 7, 2018, at the United Methodist Church of Otsego until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Joe Shaler officiating. Military Honors by VFW Post #3030. Contributions in memory of John may be made to the American Heart Association or to the United Methodist Church of Otsego.
