Robert “Bob” L. FULLER AGE 90 - OTSEGO, MI
Robert L. Fuller passed away on August 30, 2025, at Kauhale in Otsego.
Born on April 13, 1935, in Otsego, he was the cherished son of Charles and Beatrice (Beldon) Fuller. Bob led a remarkable life marked by a strong sense of duty and passion. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Era, stationed in Germany, where he exemplified the values of integrity and commitment. Following his military service, Bob pursued various career paths that reflected his work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He owned and operated Rog & Bob's Marathon, transitioned into real estate with Cornell Associates, and ultimately became a licensed insurance agent, opening the Bob Fuller Agency, where he worked with his wife, Barb. On November 22, 1968, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Burchett, at the Otsego Church of God. Their bond remained strong until Barbara's passing in 2024. Together, they shared countless memories and nurtured a loving family. Bob is survived by his two children, Garrett Fuller and Dana (Andrew) Switzer, and was a proud grandfather to Michael, Jonathan, and Audrey. His family meant the world to him, and he enjoyed every moment spent in their company. In addition to his family commitments, Bob was known for his vibrant personality. He was very social and enjoyed having coffee with friends, shooting pool, playing poker and cards and watching television. He was a long-time fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings, Betty Bonnell and William “Bill” Fuller. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bob’s life will be noticed once confirmed. Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. Contributions in memory of Bob may be directed to Centrica Care Navigators or Otsego VFW Post #3030.

Cloud Formation
One of my least favorite courses in college was Meteorology, a fancy word for the study of weather. One of the things I learned (or was supposed to learn) in that course was about cloud formations. There are four major cloud formations— cirrus, stratus, cumulus, and cumulonimbus. But the most important cloud formation for the Christian is the “cloud of witnesses” described in the biblical book of Hebrews in chapters 11-12. The author of Hebrews lists a bunch of spiritual heroes from the Old Testament, such as Noah, Abraham, Moses and David, to name a few. The bottom line is that we need to form a cloud (or crowd) that will form us into the person God has created us to be.
So, who is your cloud formation? Who are the God-rich people who help you to keep your eyes and heart “fixed on Jesus”? There is no such thing as a “solitary Christian.” That’s oxymoronic, or flat out moronic. The healthiest Christians I know are running the race with other runners, drafting off those in front of them. And, truth be told, the most unhealthy Christians I know are those who isolate themselves by choice, usually because they have experienced some sort of church hurt. I get it. The church hurts, but it also heals. Get over the hurt and recruit a posse of people who will help you to “fix your eyes on Jesus.” Rugged individualistic, stoic, independent Lone Rangerism might be a cultural value, but it is not a biblical Christian one. Find and form the cloud that will form you in Christ.
Dorothy is in my cloud. Despite the verbal and physical abuse of her tyrannical husband, she came to church every week and greeted everyone who entered with a hug. She also taught children no matter what was going on in her life. Amy is in my cloud. She doesn’t tell me with her lips but shows me with her life what a long obedience to Jesus in the same direction looks like. Laurie is in my cloud. She has shown me how to hold on for dear life to Jesus when life stacks disappointment upon disappointment. Then there is Harry, a humble and wise Christian leader. He was one of the first to identify leadership gifts in me that I might have never known I had unless he pointed them out. That’s a few of the people in my “cloud of witnesses.” I am who I am because of who they are. Form the cloud formation that will form you.

The above verse comes in the middle of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. In that sermon (Matthew 57), Jesus talks about the importance of human relationships. This includes such things as reconciliation with those who have offended us, speaking the truth, turning the other cheek, going the second mile and loving our enemies.
If that is not enough to live up to, He tells us to “be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” We are relieved to learn that Jesus did not mean for us to be perfect in the sense He is perfect. That would be impossible. After all, He is the only perfect Person who ever lived on the face of this earth.
The word perfect in the Greek language means full grown, adult, complete or mature in our relationship with God and others. Instead of being petty, childish and immature, Jesus wants us to be like Him — loving, forgiving, and non-judgmental. In Jesus’ time, one of the groups which were so hard for Him to get along with was the Pharisees whose attitude was “Holier-than-Thou.” For example, Jesus used harsh words to condemn their attitude calling them hypocrites saying, “You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence” (Matthew 23:25).
Christian perfection is defined more in terms of moving toward Christ-likeness, with the central command being “to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39).
On this journey of faith, there will be times when we stumble and fall, but God’s grace will always be present to forgive us and lead us forward toward our heavenly destination which will be perfect in every way.
In the meantime, we will move forward in faith believing the best is yet to come.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be more like You. In Your strong name. Amen.
