HOW DOES DECOMPRESSION WORK? Non-surgical Spinal Decompression is a pain free procedure designed to relieve pressure that builds up on the discs and nerves. As pressure builds inside the disc it causes bulging of the gelatinous material inside the disc. This jellylike tissue can be placed under so much pressure that it can cause the annulus, or outer band of the disc, to rupture. When the disc has ruptured or ‘herniated’, it may create pressure against one or more of the spinal nerves which can cause pain, weakness or numbness in the neck or back that can radiate into the legs or arms. Non-surgical Decompression creates negative pressure within the disc, causing the herniation to be drawn slowly back into the disc space, thus relieving the pressure, as it rehydrates the disc. Midway through the treatment protocol, the formation of Collagen begins to take place in and around the disc. These ‘sticky’ cells have the ability to form other cells including chondroblasts or baby cartilage cells. These cells help the disc to heal.
WHAT ARE PATIENTS SAYING? I am a senior citizen who likes to stay active, but last summer I fell and ran my head into a steel garage door and received severe neck pain. I had an MRI taken and they found several damaged discs in my neck. I have also had trouble with lower back pain and numbness in my toes for the past several years and an MRI of that area showed multiple damaged discs in my low back as well. I went to several Dr.’s and specialists with each of them taking weeks or months to schedule me and then even longer to get any results and none of them had any answers for my pain. They just talked and talked. I then went to Laser and Spine Institute in Cleveland and had appointments scheduled to have laser spine surgery for both my neck and low back which was going to cost me well over $25,000 out of pocket. That’s when my daughter asked me why I didn’t see a chiropractor that went to her church. I said I didn’t believe in Chiropractors. She said what would it hurt to just go talk to him at least? I agreed to try it. I decided to make an appointment with Albrecht Chiropractic Office PC and got in within a matter of days. After talking to them and having x-rays taken, they found one leg to be shorter than the other and we decided to try a treatment. After that first treatment my feet were better. Then they told me about spinal decompression as an alternative to the surgery for both my neck and low back. It was only a fraction of the cost so I decided to try it. Now I am 100% pain free in both my back and neck. I feel the best that I have in years. I don’t like to eat my words, but I am now a firm believer of chiropractic and Dr. Darl and Dr. Seth Albrecht. AGE 79 - PLAINWELL, MI Mary Ellen Riggs passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. She was born January 22, 1947, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Russell and Irene (Dontje) Morrical. Mary graduated from Portage High School in 1965 and began her career working at Brunswick Bowling Products and for several medical offices in the area. She retired in 2001 as Human Resources manager at Rock Tenn Paper Mill in Otsego. Mary was a woman of strong faith and was a member of the Otsego Church of God where she was active in the bell choir. In her free time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. On August 26, 1967, in Portage, she married Douglas Riggs who survives. Also surviving are her children, James (Joanne) Riggs of Kalamazoo and William (Peggy) Riggs of Holt; 2 grandchildren, Patrick and Lydia; sister, Sandra Kay (Gale Voss) Adler along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Friends may visit with Mary’s family from 5-7 PM, Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with Pastor Steve Burrow officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. Contributions in memory of Mary may be directed to Kairos Dwelling. Arrangements by

One of our delights is babysitting for our greatgrandson. He is a beautiful, happy, fun-loving, curious young boy. He lights up the room when he enters it. Among other things, he loves stories, toys, puzzles, stroller rides, and his favorite children’s DVD “Blue’s Clues.” His world changes dramatically when his mother comes to pick him up. He will be playing and all of a sudden he looks up and sees his mother! A big smile comes across his face and his eyes light up when he runs to the outstretched arms of his loving mother. In the Bible there are at least two kinds of looking up: 1. PHYSICALLY The Magi looked up and saw a star that led them to the Christ-child (Matthew 2:9, 10). Jesus talked about a time to come, at the end of the age, when we will look up and see Him coming on a cloud with power and great glory” (Luke 21:27,28). We live in the great in-between time … the now and not yet. There is something we can do in the meantime. We can “set our minds on things above, not earthly things” (Colossians 3:2). 2. MINDFULLY We can have a Christian mindset. We can have the “mind of Christ” (Philippians 2:5) – the attitude of Christ. It has been said, “Attitude is Your Paintbrush. I read a story the other day about a guy who got himself into extreme debt. He owed a very powerful person about $48 billion, an amount he could never possibly pay back in full. He begged for mercy and patience from the guy who was owed the money. In an act of incredible grace, the guy cancelled the debt. It’s a beautiful story but it takes an ugly turn. The man whose enormous debt was forgiven finds someone who owes him about $15,000. He throws the debtor into prison until the man’s family can pay off the debt. This sickens me! It makes my blood boil! A person who was forgiven a $48,000,000,000 debt refuses to forgive someone who owes him $15,000. That’s ugly!

For some reason, it’s really important to God that we forgive each other “from your heart” (Matthew 18:35). Earlier in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus taught us to pray “forgive us our debts just as we also forgive our debtors” (Matthew 6:12). Why does Jesus want us to forgive those who hurt us? Because He knows that “bitterness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” In other words, bitter unforgiveness toward others can destroy us. Bottom line: “Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13).

This is basically the parable Jesus tells in Matthew 18:21‐35. It’s not a true story, or is it? The point of Jesus’ powerful parable is this: Every time those of us who have been forgiven a huge debt by God refuse to forgive the much smaller debts we have against others, we are the unmerciful guy in the parable. I’m not suggesting that the things done to you by others don’t hurt. What I am saying or, better yet, what Jesus is saying is that we will never forgive a bigger debt than the one we owe God because of our sin. If you are in Christ, God cancelled the debt of your sin through the cross of His Son. And those of us who embrace God’s forgiveness of our $48,000,000,000 debt must extend forgiveness to those who owe us a $15,000 debt. Those who are forgiven forgive.
