We had a wonderful Momma, Grandma and Gigi, One who never really grew old; Her smile was made of sunshine, And her heart was solid gold; Her eyes were as bright as shining stars, And in her cheeks, fair roses, you see. We had a wonderful Momma, Grandma and Gigi, And that’s the way it will always be. But take heed, because She’s still keeping an eye on all of us, So let’s make sure She will like what she sees.

“OUR PRICELESS TREASURE”
“For we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us” ~2 Corinthians 4:7
By Rev. Dan Minor -
There are some things we can never put a price tag on. I am thinking of the beauty of a sunset over the lake, the joyful sounds of children playing and laughing, the majestic sounds of an orchestra playing, a choir singing Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus and a baby’s birth, just to name a few. We treasure our families, our friends, our faith community, and life itself. The Psalmist declared, “This is a day the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). Each day is a gift from God. What we make of it is our gift to God. Although we have plenty to worry about, we rest on the promise of God’s presence. We can face any day and any challenge as long as we know we are never alone.
Apostle Paul talked about another priceless treasure … Jesus Christ. How can we put a price tag on Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins? We can never pay for it but we can show our love for God by the words we say and by the lives we live. The apostle described believers as jars of clay. In other words, God has entrusted God’s priceless Treasure in weak vessels (you and me). The focus here is not on human frailty but on God’s eternal presence in our lives. This thought is repeated in I Peter 1:3, 4 which reads, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade away – kept in heaven for you …”
There is an old saying, “You can’t take it with you” meaning the only lasting treasures are the ones we lay up for ourselves in Heaven (Matthew 6:19-21).
As we show love and kindness to others, we are not only bringing joy on earth but making an investment in the Kingdom of God which will last forever.

It was our first year of marriage. Decisions I used to make alone, I now had to make in conversation with Amy, my wife. “Communication is key,” so the marriage experts say. Let me tell you about one of the many times I forgot to communicate well.
On my day off, I went fly-fishing for trout. I promised Amy I’d be home for dinner at 6:00. Around that time, the trout started biting and didn’t stop until 8:00 or so. I came home two hours late to a very worried wife and a ruined dinner. She asked, “Are you okay? Where were you?” For some reason, I became real defensive, as only a clueless newlywed male would do. “How dare you question me! Can’t a guy enjoy his day off and fish?” I stormed out of our apartment as if I were the victim. Like I said, CLUELESS NEWLYWED MALE!
I drove around for a bit to cool off and then headed back home. I mentally prepared an apology speech as I was pulling into the driveway. Amy is probably hurt and fuming. She likely put my pillow on the sofa. When I got to the top of the steps to our deck, I was shocked by what I saw. There was Amy, smiling and looking beautiful in (what I will call) pajamas. She had prepared a candlelit table for us to dine. She even cooked a whole new meal for me. She didn’t give me what I deserved- punishment; she gave me what I didn’t deserve- grace, a candlelit dinner of grace.
Amy could have retaliated, gave me the cold shoulder, or packed her bags and headed to her mom’s place. Instead, she responded to my insensitivity, pride, and defensiveness with grace. That grace made me want to love her more, not less. And, when we encounter the undeserved grace of God, we will want to love Him more not less. The Apostle Paul put it this way, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
All of us have messed up and “come home late.” God could retaliate or reject us. Instead, He invites us to a candlelit dinner of grace saying, “this is my body broken for you; this is my blood shed for you.” Now that’s grace! Accept His grace and enjoy the feast.
