while also keeping the building in good repair to last for many years to come On the August 4th

The Otsego District Public Librar y has been providing excellent ser vices and programs to our joint communities for 30 years on the same millage rate. This funding is no longer sufficient for current costs and the needs of a 17year-old building The excellent staff has made this work but as the building gets older, significant repairs and maintenance are required and can not be provided under the current millage. The librar y needs HVAC, masonr y repair, lighting, and parking lot maintenance among other repairs and improvements. As these needs become critical they will need to be prioritized over ser vices and programs unless additional funds are approved.

Annual funding for our librar y runs significantly less than those of the surrounding area including Allegan, Plainwell and Richland. Yet, our librar y is open six days a week and provides a wide variety of ser vices and programs for all ages and interests. Please vote yes on this ballot proposal in order to keep the Otsego District Public Librar y running at the same high level of ser

“You come to me with a sword a spear and a shield; I come to you in the name of the Lord Almighty ” ~ I Samuel 17:45

By Rev Dan Minor - revdm nor1945@gma l com

All of us face giants in life One example may be the giant of low self-esteem One of the wonderful exper iences of my life as a pastor was attending a pastor’s retreat and meeting the late Dr Nor man Vincent Peale in Pawling, New Yor k He was best known as the author of “The Power of Positive Thinking” and, along with his wife, was co-founder of Guidepost Magazine His ser mons, lectures and wr itings ear ned him the nickname “Minister to Millions” as he touched countless lives

I was sur pr ised to hear him say that he grew up extremely shy, was plagued by cr ippling feelings of self-doubt and was often terr ified of speaking in public Over time he overcame his giant by merging practical psychology with Chr istian theology

In facing our giants we can lear n some lessons from the Old Testament stor y of David facing a giant named Goliath Goliath stood about 9 feet and 9 inches in height and was a member of the Philistine ar my One day he challenged the ar mies of Israel to select a man from their ar my to fight him

Goliath was strong enough to give the entire ar my of Israel an infer ior ity complex The Bible says the ar my of Israel was “dismayed and greatly afraid ” David, one of the sons of Jesse, volunteered to fight against the giant

King Saul laughed at him but also saw young David’s confidence and courage and per mitted him to battle against the giant Amazingly, David fought the giant and defeated him The secret to David’s victor y was his “I come to you in the name of the Lord” mindset The good news is that we can face any giant with the help of God

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to face our giants in Your mighty name In Your strong name we pray Amen

Even many Non‐Christians believe that Jesus was the wisest teacher who ever lived It’s hard to argue against the global impact of Jesus’ teaching He often taught in parables, allegorical stories chock full of practical wisdom for life

This Sunday, August 2, First Congregational Church of Otsego (FCC) is launching into a series of messages called the Parables of Jesus The first parable I’m focusing on is called the Parable of the Sower in Mark 4:1‐20

Come as you are! You are welcome and wanted by God and us
