Being part of a church family is another blessing. During difficult times I have heard people say, “I don’t know what I would do without my church family.” The church, of course, blesses us with friendships, experiences of worship, spiritual growth and opportunities for service.

God’s covenant with Abraham went far beyond the nations of his time. Through Abraham’s line came Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. One might say the blessings of God go back a very long way!

With this as a background, it gives me great joy in wishing my brother-in law and his wife, Tom & Marylyn Moon a Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary on August l7.

Annette Greene of Otsego passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013, in Kalamazoo.

Mrs. Greene was born January 20, 1933 in Latham, TN to Benjamin and Oma Nell (Maxey) Ivie. A devoted homemaker, Annette had a great love for her family. She enjoyed playing board games with her grandchildren, watching game shows and was an avid bowler. She was famous in her family for her cooking and made the best biscuits in town. On June 15, 1953 in Ferndale, MI she married James Greene, who passed in 2002. Also preceding her in death were a brother, William Ivie, and a sister, Bobbie Nell Moskus. Surviving are her son, Bryan (Cindy) Greene of Otsego; three grandchildren, Katherine (Logan) Dolnik, Rebekah Greene and James David Greene; a sister, Norma ‘Susie’ (George) Ilich of Wixom; a brother, Dennis (Linda) Ivie of Whitmore Lake; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 15th, at the Plainwell Church of Christ with Mr. David Cushman officiating. Burial followed at Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. Contributions in memory of Annette may be made to the Plainwell Church of Christ.

John passed away at the V.A. Medical Center on Monday, August 5, 2013. John was born in Kalamazoo, MI on March 11, 1951, the son of the late John L. and Mary Lou (Elmer “Curly”) Garner. At an early age he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country with pride and honor. John was a hard worker who was employed for 19 years at Jack’s Bait and Tackle store in Homestead, FL. In 2004 he returned to Michigan to be with family. John had an adventurous personality and always enjoyed having a good time. John enjoyed spending time on the computer, listening to old time Rock n’ Roll and watching Netflix. Though not always available, he loved his children, siblings, and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory five children, Angela (Dale) Weststrate, Amy Pfau-Hayward, Anna (Paul) Cole, John Pfau, and Jamie Pfau; siblings, Tammy Leonard, Donald (Renee) Pfau; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. In accordance with John’s wishes cremation will take place and private family services will be held. Memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center, c/o the funeral home.
