“SOME FAMILY FUN ON A RUN” “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household,” (Ephesians 2:19) By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor1945@gmail.com
This story is about family, faith and having fun. Our story begins in Memorial Park, Otsego, MI on August 1, 2026. On that morning, 193 runners and walkers gathered to participate in the 25th Annual Otsego Ready or Not 5K event. A special feature this year was the presence of WWMTV’s award-winning meteorologist Keith Thompson along with award–winning evening anchor Jessica Harthorn and Otsego’s own morning news anchor, Julie Williams.
The weather forecast called for rain, but the rain held off under cloudy skies with Keith Thompson, one of our runners, remarking, “A perfect weather day for running.” Our City Manager, Aaron Mitchell, sent us off with a prayer and Julie Williams gave us the “Runners on your mark! Ready! Set! Go!” We were off and running. We followed the cones, set out earlier by our Department of Public Works. The Otsego Police Department kept us safe with officers stationed at two busy intersections. Thanks to Jane and Neil Rockafellow for organizing and running the refreshments table. Thanks to the Community Shoppers Guide for advertising the event weeks in advance. Thanks to our race sponsors and businesses who offered gifts for awards. Last but not least, thank you to Coach Steve Long, the originator of this fun event. Personally, it was my 15th Ready or Not and I enjoyed every minute of it. The highlight for me was that our 10 month old great-grandson, Benjamin Starr, son of Justin and Ashleigh Starr, was pushed along in a baby stroller by his parents and smiling all the way! What I am talking about is having fun, being in community and having that “family feeling.” That being said, the best kind of community is the community of faith. In John 1:12 we read, “To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” There is no greater peace than being members of God’s household.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the privilege of belonging to Your family. In Your strong name. Amen.

The One Thing Worth Everything For you, what is the one thing worth everything to get? History is full of people who have spent everything they had chasing the “one thing.” Some sacrifice marriages, families, health, and peace just to climb another rung on the corporate ladder. Some athletes give up normal childhoods, endure relentless training, and suffer incredible pain because they believe becoming the best is worth every sacrifice. Entrepreneurs have mortgaged homes, emptied savings accounts, and worked around the clock because they believed in one dream. Bryan Johnson is a 48‐year‐old tech entrepreneur who spends millions of dollars each year on an extreme anti‐aging project called "Blueprint". His goal is to reverse his biological age and make his organs function like those of an 18‐year‐old. At 4:30 a.m. he starts his day with several hours dedicated to specialized treatments and therapies, such as red light therapy. He is on a strict diet and has a medical team that monitors hundreds of biological markers. The one thing worth everything to Johnson is good looks and youthfulness. The truth is this: Everyone is giving their life to something. The only question is whether what we're pursuing is actually worthy of our lives. Jesus tells a short parable in Matthew 13:44 that asks one searching question: Is the kingdom of heaven the one thing worth everything to get? Here is what Jesus said: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” Jesus has so much to give us‐ contentment, peace, purpose, and joy. But you can’t experience all of Jesus by giving him just a part of yourself. Jesus, the one who gave everything just to be with you, is worthy of your heart not just a part. When we give all that we are to him, Jesus gives all of himself to us. And when that happens, we realize that surrender to him isn’t a sacrifice but a celebration. Why? Because the everything we get from Jesus is way more than the everything we give to Him.
