On July 29th, 2019, Janice Lee (Wadsworth) Keith was called to heaven to be with her Lord. Janice was born January 20, 1961 in Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by her sister LuAnn (Hamm) Dekilder and step brother Roe Johnson. Jan is survived by her husband of 42 years John Ray Keith of Plainwell; her mother, Joann (Rocky) Johnson of Allegan; daughter Faith (William) Davis of Lennon MI; son John (Kerry) Keith of Allegan MI; 5 grandchildren; Daniell Davis, Charles Keith, James Davis, Amanda Keith and Alexander Keith; sister Rachel Wadsworth of Kalamazoo; sister Virginia (Bruce) Hopson of Fennville; sister Loretta Smith of Kalamazoo; sister Beth Hamm of Allegan; brother Michael Wadsworth of Springport and brother Dale Wadsworth of Otsego; step sister Carleen (Mike) Kyle of Virginia and step sister Alice (Chuck) Lossie, Paw Paw, MI. She was a member of the Otsego High School class of 1980. Jan loved crafts of all sorts. Woodworking, crocheting, knitting, jewelry making among others. As a licensed cosmetologist she was fascinated by the popular hair styles of the day. It was common for her to get calls for hair or dress help from young ladies before school dances - she happily ‘saved the day’. Jan drove a school bus for Plainwell Community Schools for many years. She loved her bus kids and they loved her for many reasons; from her fair treatment of their antics to her crocheting hats for each rider, her countless costumes for holidays and her ever present smile, to name a few. Jan’s endless love and support of her family is her greatest legacy. Service and a celebration of life will be held August 10th, 2019 at the Trowbridge Community Church, 355 26th St, Otsego, MI 49078, (269) 673-5502, officiated by Mr. Tim Marsh. Visitation begins at 10 am, service at 11am. Luncheon will follow. The family has created a Facebook group to collect memories of those impacted by Jan's warm heart. Donations in Jan’s name may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice in Allegan.

Maggie passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at her home in Plainwell. She was born June 7, 1946 in Munising, the daughter of Paul and Henrietta (Rollain) Lukowski. Maggie had worked at Meijer’s in Holland for 15 years. In her free time she enjoyed painting, doing crafts, bowling, and decorating. Maggie loved spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are her children, Daniel (Teresa) Giles of Alabama and Sarah Giles of Plainwell; 5 grandchildren, Amber Gleason, Brianna Sparks, Kellie Giles, Nathan Giles and Seth Giles; 3 great-grandchildren, Payton, Chase and Colton Gleason; her siblings, Georgia, Jimmy, Della, Paul and Suzie and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, foster parents and 7 siblings. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Corner Bible Church in Allegan over Labor Day weekend. Contributions in memory of Maggie may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice. “SELF-CONTROL”

“For God did not give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled” (II Timothy 1:7 Common English Bible) There is an old proverb, “Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control” (Proverbs 25:28). It does not have to be that way. With God’s help we can practice self-control.
Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:23). In Titus 2:11, 12 we are told that by God’s grace we can “… say no to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives…” In Galatians 5:16 we are warned not to allow the lower side of our nature to have their way with us. According to the Bible, the practice of self-control affects many things such as athletic performance (I Corinthians 9:24-27), our friendships (James 4:4), our thoughts (Philippians 4:8), our words (James 3:3-6), sexuality (I Corinthians 6:18-20), moral purity (Ephesians 5:3-5), our motives (Matthew 6:1) our worship (Psalm 24:3-4) our witness(Matthew 5:14-16) and our actions (James 2:17).
While there are many things we cannot control, such as our heredity and childhood environment, the weather and unforeseen situations; there are many things we can control by God’s grace.
The way to self-control is to allow Christ to have control over our lives (Matthew 6:24). Here are some ways we can practice self-control: * Be Alert (I Peter 5:8)
* “… Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2) * Be strong in the Lord (Ephesians 6:10) * Know this is a spiritual battle (Galatians 5:16-17) * Trust that “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness…” (2 Peter 1:3) * Know that Christ always provides a way out of temptation (I Corinthians 10:13) * Remember God is stronger than evil (I John 4:4) * Live by the Spirit of God within you (Galatians 5:16)
When we allow the Spirit of God to produce spiritual fruit in our lives, we grow closer to God and become more like Christ. Ultimate victory is assured through our faith in Christ (I John 5:4). Prayer: Dear Lord, take control of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen
