Constance Elaine "Connie" HOLTMAN AGE 83 - PLAINWELL/OTSEGO, MI
Constance Elaine "Connie" Holtman, a beacon of love and faith, completed her earthly journey on October 27, 2024, after 83 years of a life lived with grace, joy, and an unwavering dedication to her family. Born on February 16, 1941, to Carlton (Stub) and Edna Hurley, Connie had two younger siblings, Janice Parker and Lynn Hurley. Her next-door neighbor Jerrilynn (Pell) Sunnerville was as close as a sister and her lifelong best friend. Connie attended Plainwell High School where she was a cheerleader, played in the band, and was on homecoming court. After graduating with the PHS Class of '59, Connie married Paul Holtman on October 24th of the same year. She dedicated her life to nurturing the growth of her family, her faith and the beautiful flowers around her home. Connie was the heart of her family, weaving a tapestry of love that extended beyond her biological ties. She shared her life with her late husband, Paul Holtman, and together they raised a trio of daughters, Jill (David) Reyes, Vicki (Jay) Dunham, and Dawn (Dennis) Brown. Her arms and her heart were always open, which was why Vincent Guzman (from Chicago) found a second home as her godson, and Ana Hedberg (from Brazil) found a second mom in Kalamazoo. Her legacy will continue through the stories, her love, and her blueberry pies. Connie enjoyed flower gardening, cooking and baking, crafting, and being at, or better yet, IN the lake. She passed on these same loves to her children, 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren along with the importance of loving one another. Nothing made her happier than seeing her family together having fun. The words loving, faith-filled, and kind only begin to scratch the surface of describing Connie. She was a mother not just to her children but to anyone who needed one, a grandmother who loved her grandchildren deeply, and a great-grandmother who always wanted those babies in her arms. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, a garden of memories, and a family cultivated with love. Her life was a beautiful melody of faith, family, and fun—a story that will resonate in the hearts of those who will love her forever. The phrase, "Remember that time that Grandma Connie..." is how her family will remember her the best. She brought laughter to her family through the silly things that she did - some on purpose, but most by accident! Connie's faith was the cornerstone of her existence, a wellspring of strength that she drew from, especially in times of trial. Her relationship with God sustained her, and she was a living testament to the power of prayer. Although Connie had many medical trials over the last 31 years of her life that robbed her of much of her independence, she continued to believe in a loving God that was using her life to bring others to the Lord. She continued to praise the Lord for all things big and small. The sun has set on Connie's earthly life, but her light continues to shine bright in the myriad of lives she touched. She has returned to her Creator, and we can almost hear her say, with that twinkle in her eye, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, and boy, have I had a good laugh doing it." Rest in peace and joy, until we meet again.

Lila L. REYNOLDS AGE 77 - RICHLAND, MI
Lila L. Reynolds, born on August 18, 1947, in Allegan, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the Family Living AFC Home in Richland, after a long battle with Vascular Parkinsonism Disease and Vascular Dementia. She was the beloved daughter of Albert and Pauline (Clauser) Smith, who preceded her in death. A proud graduate of Allegan High School in 1965, Lila initially dedicated herself to her career as an inspector at Parker Hannifin until 1984. It was that same year in Las Vegas that she married her devoted husband, Donald, marking the beginning of a beautiful partnership. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared values. Lila was fiercely devoted to her children, Brian Reynolds and Scott Moore, as well as to her daughter, Melissa Reynolds, who had special needs. Her unwavering commitment to caring for Melissa for 24 years stands as one of her proudest accomplishments, reflecting the depth of her compassion and maternal strength. Her interests and hobbies painted a picture of a vibrant life; she found great joy in gardening and was a wonderful homemaker who loved to bake, particularly cookies and pies. Lila was admired not only for her skills in the kitchen but also for her meticulous housekeeping abilities. She enjoyed attending Brian’s soccer, baseball, track, cross country, and swimming activities. The holidays were especially cherished times for Lila, as she delighted in cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for her family. She leaves behind her loving husband, Donald, her children, Brian Reynolds, Melissa Reynolds, and Scott Moore, as well as her grandson, Trevor Hoekstra. Lila is also survived by her siblings, Barbara White, Willard Smith, and Robert Smith, along with several nieces and nephews. Friends visited with Lila’s family starting at 4:00 P.M., Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 6:30 P.M. Cremation followed. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, especially Patty, Crystal and Gretchen, for the wonderful care given to Lila during her stay at Family Living AFC Home. Contributions in memory of Lila may be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Years ago, a well-known preacher by the name of Harry Emerson Fosdick told the story about a man who boarded a bus, fully intending to go to Detroit, but at the end of the long trip when he got off the bus he found himself not in Detroit but in Kansas City. He had caught the wrong bus. This may raise the question, “If we get to where we are going, where will we be?” We all have good intentions, but sometimes either consciously or unconsciously we get on the wrong bus (make bad choices) and end up at a place where we would rather not be.
When we repent of our sins, the Holy Spirit comes into our lives to dwell (Romans 8:10-11). The Holy Spirit teaches us, guides us, inspires us and helps us to stay on the right path in life. The compass within is called discernment (Philippians 1:9-10). This is a work of the Holy Spirit. We may think of it this way: Discernment determines decisions. (I Corinthians 2:14-15)
Decisions determine direction. (Isaiah 30:21)
Direction determines destiny (Matthew 7:13-14)
Discerning God’s Spirit within us requires selfdiscipline, prayer and studying God’s Word. The psalmist said, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). We can trust our inner compass to guide us. May we turn to Him often.

Marcia met Ken Brewer while attending Spring Arbor College. They married and were blessed with two beloved sons, Steve (Sheridan) and Greg, whom they cherished deeply. Throughout her life, Marcia was a devoted mother, always encouraging her children to pursue their dreams and filling their home with warmth and laughter. Later in life, Marcia reconnected with David Bradford, a friend from her middle school years at the First Church of the Nazarene in Portage, MI. What began as a rekindled friendship blossomed into love, and they were married in their mid-sixties, sharing a renewed sense of joy and companionship. Marcia and David’s blended family included five stepchildren: David Jr., Amanda, Nick, Travis, and Karisa, whom Marcia welcomed with open arms. Marcia is preceded in death by her father Paul Beeman, her mother Eunice, and her former husbands Ken Brewer and Steven Walker. She is survived by her loving husband David, her brother Joe Beeman (Valerie), her sister Cindy Smith (Kevin), her sons Steve (Sheridan) and Greg, her five stepchildren, as well as many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Marcia was a proud and doting grandmother to seven grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. Those who knew Marcia will remember her infectious laughter that could fill a room. She read stories with her grandchildren by her side. Marcia’s dedication to her community was evident through her generous spirit and her active involvement with Friendship Wesleyan Church, where she found both purpose and fellowship.
