Judith Krebs, known affectionately as Judy, passed away on July 18, 2025, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. Born on February 22, 1945, in Cadillac, she was the daughter of Leo and Barbara (McKinch) Wilson. Judy started her career as a manager of the beauty salon in the Meijer store on Douglas Road in Kalamazoo. She also owned and operated a hair salon out of her home and for 30 years she worked at Parker Hannifin until her retirement. Judy's interests extended beyond her work. She found immense joy in quilting, a hobby that allowed her to express her creativity while creating cherished pieces for her loved ones. Above all, Judy treasured her family, and it was her love for them that truly defined her life. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert, whom she married on March 15, 2013, in Allegan. Judy embraced her role as a stepmother to five children: Stephanie, Jason, Bruce, Bryan, and Laura. She took great pride in being a grandmother to five grandchildren and a greatgrandmother to six great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love continues through them. Judy is also survived by her siblings, Jim Wilson, Gerry Wilson, and Carol Maurer; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Steven Warner. According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at the Otsego United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 11am until 1pm. Contributions in memory Judy of may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Carol G. Tyler passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. Carol was born January 25, 1938, the daughter of Merrill and Louise (Cowels) Burd. She dedicated twenty years of her professional life working in the office at Sutherland Paper, where she became known for her strong work ethic and kindness toward colleagues. After her career in the workforce, she retired to be a stay-at-home mom but ran her own business selling worms to local fisherman. Carol found fulfillment in her family and passions, which truly defined her life. A woman of strong faith, Carol previously belonged to the Otsego Church of God and was an active member of the Comstock Church of God. For many years she taught Sunday School. She devoted much of her time to reading and studying the Bible, embodying the teachings of her faith in everything she did. Carol also took joy in volunteering at several area nursing homes alongside her husband, Richard, whom she married on May 19, 1973. Together, they shared a commitment to service and community. Her hobbies reflected her creative spirit and love for nature. Carol loved art, attending art school and engaging in home courses to enhance her skills. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, hobby farming, growing vegetables, and raising chickens and goats. Her nurturing disposition extended to her many houseplants, which thrived under her care. Additionally, Carol cherished writing encouraging letters to family and friends, spreading joy and positivity through her words. Singing was another of Carol's great passions. She met her husband while singing in the choir and sang in a quartet with her siblings and niece. Throughout her life, she continued to share her love of music, joining in song at church and with her daughter and family. Carol leaves behind her cherished daughter, Dorothy (Jason) Kovacs of Kalamazoo, grandchildren Robyn and Andrew, greatgrandson Konstantin Kovacs along with several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in by her beloved husband, Richard, as well as her parents and siblings, Elizabeth (John) Newhouse and Donald (Esther) Burd, both of Plainwell. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 P.M., Friday, July 25, 2025, with Rev. Caleb Williams officiating. Burial will take place at 3:30 P.M., at Riverview Cemetery in Kalamazoo. Contributions in memory of may be directed to Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or Kairos Dwelling.

It’s Not Too Late

You know how people will sometimes try to encourage you when you tell them an aspiration you once had? They will say, “You know, it’s not too late.” But, let’s face it, some things are too late. I’ve always dreamed of playing professional baseball. The Detroit Tigers are not going to sign me to a million-dollar contract. Shoot, they wouldn’t give me $10 to play on their team. I’m well past my prime. My hand-eye coordination is diminished. My strong throwing arm is now plagued by pain just about every time I throw a baseball. It’s too late for me to play professional baseball.

What is really sad is when people chase after a dream or hope they think is not too late that actually is too late. The cosmetic surgery industry is banking on people believing it’s not too late to look half their age. But despite Botox injections, it’s too late for someone who is 60 to look 30 no matter how hard they try and how much money they spend.

What is even more heart-breaking to me is not when people believe something is not too late when it is too late, but when they are convinced that a hope is too late when it’s not too late. I wonder how many of you reading this article believe it’s too late to reconcile with a family member or friend, or it’s too late to become a gracious person when you been so angry for so long, or it’s too late to find true love, or it’s too late to find and live into a meaningful purpose for your life, or it’s too late to become a good spouse, parent, or friend when you have been mediocre at best, or it’s too late to rebuild credibility.

Here is what I want you to know: When God is present in your life, “all things are possible.”

When God is present it’s not too late for Abraham and Sarah, in their 90s, to birth a child named Isaac; when God is present it’s not too late for a dude named Lazarus who has been dead for four days to get raised to life; when God is present it’s not too late for Peter the coward to become Peter the courageous apostle. And, when God is present, it’s not too late for you to become the person God created you to be and to live the full life He is inviting you to live. Thanks be to God!

“THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS”

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about these things” ~Philippians 4:8

The mind is the control tower of our lives. What we think determines who we are and how we act. We have all seen how negativity in a group can spoil the whole group experience. Conversely, we have seen where positivity can change the atmosphere of an entire group.

As believers, the Bible tells us we are capable of having the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5, King James Version). In Romans 12:2 we read, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Having the mind, attitude or disposition of Christ brings positive energy to all that we do. It has been said, “Attitude is your paintbrush. It colors every situation.”

The late Dr. Viktor Frankl was an Australian psychiatrist who was a prisoner of war for a long period of time in a Nazi concentration camp. He told of his experiences in his fascinating book, “Man’s Search for Meaning.” He observed something that was interesting to him. He noticed that prisoners who seemed physically strong were actually weak because of their poor attitudes. On the other hand, he noticed those who looked frail and weak on the outside were amazingly strong because of their positive attitudes. Among other things, he wrote,

“We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others...giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from us but one thing: the last of the human freedoms...to choose one’s own attitude in any given set of circumstances...”

The question is, how can we think the thoughts of Christ? How can we win the battle of the mind?

Here are some suggestions:

Ask God to Cleanse Your Mind by the Power of the Holy Spirit.

→ “You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you” (John 15:3).

Stay Focused on God by Prayer and Studying the Bible

→ “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1)

Think Positive Thoughts

Never allow negative thoughts to control your thinking. Remember,

→ “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

Remember God is more Powerful than Evil

→ “He who is in you is greater than he that is in the world” (I John 4:4).

Thoughts that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable and praiseworthy come to those who choose to have the mind of Christ.
