Chronic Pain Ruining Your Life? Advanced Back & Neck Pain Solutions Now Available

...for the treatment of chronic & severe disc related conditions!

WHAT IF YOUR DOCTOR WERE TO SAY TO YOU...“Congratulations, I HAVE GREAT NEWS! There is a way to treat your back or neck pain without having to undergo surgery. This FDA cleared technology is non-invasive, pain free and drug free. There are no needles or anesthesia. It can be done on an outpatient basis and it has proven to be very successful. Thousands of patients have been treated successfully using this technique. And the cost of the treatment is a fraction of what you would pay if you were to undergo surgery. In fact, it is probably significantly less than or equal to the out of pocket expenses if surgery was deemed necessary.” This scientific discovery is called Non-surgical Spinal Decompression and it is available at Albrecht Chiropractic/West Michigan Spinal Decompression. It is considered a viable and reliable alternative to surgery in many cases. This unique procedure is becoming widely regarded as the most efficient way and cost-effective approach to treating: herniated discs, spinal stenosis, disc degeneration, and sciatica. It is a pain free procedure designed to relieve pressure that builds up on the discs and nerves.

WHY MANAGE PAIN WHEN YOU COULD LIVE PAIN FREE?

We see patients who have tried various alternatives to manage their pain such as purchasing a new mattress, exercise therapy or pain medications because they think there is a possibility that their pain will go away over time and their condition will resolve on its own. If the pain that you are experiencing is due to muscle strain or stress, then these types of therapies may work for you. But if you suffer from chronic and severe back or neck pain due to disc related conditions of the spine, then it is highly likely that your condition will require a more aggressive disc procedure.

WHAT IS A DECOMPRESSION SESSION LIKE?

Typical patients find spinal decompression to be a relaxing, painless procedure that in most cases can be completed in a few weeks on an outpatient basis. The procedure is performed with the patient fully clothed and is safe, painless and extremely effective. In fact, it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during the procedure. Each session has a cumulative effect designed to significantly reduce pain and improve function as patients progress through the decompression program.

PAIN RELIEF ...without Risky Side Effects!

When you’re in pain getting the right treatment is what’s most important. We will design a comprehensive treatment program that focuses on your specific condition utilizing the latest technological advancements in Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression, core strengthening, and pain relieving therapies. Our goal is to treat the source of your pain, so that you can get back to living a normal and pain free life again!

HowDOES Does DECOMPRESSION Decompression Work? HOW WORK?

Non-surgical Spinal Decompression is a pain free procedure designed to relieve pressure that builds up on the discs and nerves. As pressure builds inside the disc it causes bulging of the gelatinous material inside the disc. This jellylike tissue can be placed under so much pressure that it can cause the annulus, or outer band of the disc, to rupture. When the disc has ruptured or ‘herniated’, it may create pressure against one or more of the spinal nerves which can cause pain, weakness or numbness in the neck or back that can radiate into the legs or arms. Non-surgical Decompression creates negative pressure within the disc, causing the herniation to be drawn slowly back into the disc space, thus relieving the pressure, as it rehydrates the disc. Midway through the treatment protocol, the formation of Collagen begins to take place in and around the disc. These ‘sticky’ cells have the ability to form other cells including chondroblasts or baby cartilage cells. These cells help the disc to heal.

AT WEST MICHIGAN SPINAL DECOMPRESSION... We are committed to getting you well and getting your life back on track again.

SPECIAL - No obligation consultation and 1 TRIAL VISIT, valid thru the month of August! Give us a call at: 269-694-9956 to see if you are a candidate for this procedure. WE LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING YOU!

What Are Patients Saying? I am a senior citizen who likes to stay active, but last summer I fell and ran my head into a steel garage door and received severe neck pain. I had an MRI taken and they found several damaged discs in my neck. I have also had trouble with lower back pain and numbness in my toes for the past several years and an MRI of that area showed multiple damaged discs in my low back as well. I went to several Dr.’s and specialists with each of them taking weeks or months to schedule me and then even longer to get any results and none of them had any answers for my pain. They just talked and talked. I then went to Laser and Spine Institute in Cleveland and had appointments scheduled to have laser spine surgery for both my neck and low back which was going to cost me well over $25,000 out of pocket. That’s when my daughter asked me why I didn’t see a chiropractor that went to her church. I said I didn’t believe in Chiropractors. She said what would it hurt to just go talk to him at least? I agreed to try it. I decided to make an appointment with Albrecht Chiropractic Office PC and got in within a matter of days. After talking to them and having x-rays taken, they found one leg to be shorter than the other and we decided to try a treatment. After that first treatment my feet were better. Then they told me about spinal decompression as an alternative to the surgery for both my neck and low back. It was only a fraction of the cost so I decided to try it. Now I am 100% pain free in both my back and neck. I feel the best that I have in years. I don’t like to eat my words, but I am now a firm believer of chiropractic and Dr. Darl and Dr. Seth Albrecht. I would recommend this office to anyone with back or neck pain. - Larry W Leister Sr. 06/18

Joseph “Joe” W. PICKETT AGE 71 - ALLEGAN, MI

Joseph “Joe” W. Pickett passed away and went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Joe suffered a massive stroke and brain bleed on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at his home in the early evening. Despite Beacon Allegan and Beacon Kalamazoo’s efforts to save him, his condition severely worsened overnight, and a cure could not be reached. Joe was born on March 6, 1955, to Francis and June Pickett, the eldest of 4 siblings. Joe married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie on June 28, 1975, and they recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Joe had countless friends, anyone who met him loved him. He was a true patriot and was a walking talking history book and could recite so much it was truly amazing. He knew the Constitution, Bill of Rights and events, dates and timelines. Joe was first a loving son, then an amazing husband and steadfast loyal father that taught and shaped his kids with all he could. He was truly a wonderful loving husband, dad and papa to his family that he always put first and foremost in his life. Joe built so much of Kalamazoo and Allegan during his 40 years of excavating. He was truly a gifted heavy equipment operator. He could operate any piece of equipment and made it look easy. His true passion was farming from childhood to present day. He always said he never worked a day in his life because he loved what he did. Joe graduated from Otsego High School but had fond memories of Hicks Country School just 1 mile away from his home on 26th Street in Allegan where he met his lifelong friend, Gary Rogers who remains his best friend to this day. Joe enjoyed spending time with his neighbors who were like family having bonfires. Joe loved the Lord and studied Biblical Law which he had a passion for. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and would help anyone in need. He’s gone to meet up with his family who have passed on and his best friend Jay Millbocker. Joe will never be replaced, and he will be missed forever and always. Surviving are his loving wife, Bonnie; children, Nikki (Ben) Butcher and Kaleb (Jordan) Pickett; 4 grandchildren, Shelby, Abby, Bianka and Deklin; 1 great-grandchild with another due soon; siblings, Steve (Missy) Pickett, Tom Pickett and Julie (Bret) Andrysiak all of Allegan; nieces and nephews, Tom, Jayce, Drake, Calleigh, Shane, Brandon, Samantha, Holly, CJ and Presley; many great nieces and nephews and his newest “adopted” son, Eric (Codi) DeJong. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held from 1-6 PM, Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Joe and Bonnie's home, 39 26th St., Allegan, with a bonfire to follow. Please bring a dish to pass and a chair. Contributions in memory of Joe may be directed to OurUnitedRepublic.com. Arrangements by

Surrounded by her loving family, Lucille Schiffer passed peacefully in her home on June 27, just shy of her 100th birthday. Lucille’s was a life well-lived - as a wife, mother, friend, teacher, traveler, volunteer, master quilter, and more. Lucille was born in Otsego, Michigan, on September 2, 1926, to Mildred and Carl Hatfield. The family soon moved to the Hatfield Registered Jerseys Farm in Remus, Michigan. Lucille was on her high school basketball team and also participated in 4-H, earning certificates in gardening and dairy, and certificates plus special recognition for dressmaking and scholarship money for canning. She graduated from Michigan State College in 1947 with an BS degree in Occupational Education. In 1948, Lucille married Pat Schiffer, her high school sweetheart. They lived in Remus where Lucille began her teaching career. In 1952, when Pat became a flight instructor at an Air Force Contract School in North Carolina, the family, which now included daughters Sandra (Miller) and Nancy, moved to Grifton, N.C. Sons Albert and Michael were born there. The family moved to Plainwell, Michigan in 1957, where Lucille taught both Junior and then High School Home Economics, and earned her MA degree. She was a devoted and well-liked teacher, who continued to develop new and relevant courses, including a very popular and successful occupational foods program. In 1984, she was chosen to receive a Michigan Home Economics teacher of the year award. In 1986, Lucille and Pat, then Chief Flight Instructor and Assistant Professor at Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation, both retired to enjoy a life of travel and grandchildren. When Pat died in 1993, Lucille continued her travel adventures with family and friends. Her journeys crisscrossed the entire U.S., from Newfoundland and Labrador to California and from Seattle to the Florida Keys, plus trips to Alaska, Puerto Rico, Bermuda and Paris. The years did not stop her - at age 99, she flew to a family event in Colorado. After 55 years in Plainwell, Lucille moved to Ovid, Michigan, to live near her sons and their families in an apartment designed by her and built onto son Michael’s home. In both Plainwell and Ovid, Lucille was dedicated to giving back and sharing her talents. She brought homemade pies to the Plainwell Pilot’s Club, sewed numerous quilts for the Holy Family’s Quilters group in Ovid, made her daughter’s wedding dress and her grand-daughter’s prom dress, and provided sympathy and support for family and friends in need. Lucille was a devoted volunteer at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo for 29 years and provided 14 years of essential administrative support as the Executive Secretary of the Michigan Agricultural Aviation Association – for which she received the Larsen-Miller Community Service Award at its national convention - at the age of 84! Lucille encouraged and supported each of her four children to pursue their dreams – and then spent much time bragging about them. She is survived by her children: Sandy Miller (Dan), Nancy (Goldwin Smith), Albert (Kat) and Michael (Kathryn), 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. We love her dearly; she will be missed. Burial Services will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Remus, Michigan, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24. A Memorial Mass will be held on Sunday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, Michigan. “CHARACTER COUNTS” “Noah walked with God …” Genesis 6:9

By Rev. Dan Minor - revdminor1945@gmail.com ______________________________________

At the end of the day it is not about position, power, popularity, status or wealth. It’s all about character. Noah was such a person. The Bible says, “Noah walked with God …” (Genesis 6:9). It has been said that character is caught more than taught. We influence people by the way we live and by how we treat them. Solomon, considered to be the wisest person in the Bible, wrote, “A righteous person lives on the basis of his integrity. Blessed are his children after he is gone” (Proverbs 20:7). In other words, character counts. Our nation was built upon Christian principles. God’s blessings are always upon those nations whose God is the Lord (Psalm 33:12). Abraham Lincoln, considered by many as the greatest President who ever lived, said “Character is like a tree and reputation its shadow. The shadow is what we think it is and the tree is the real thing.” This is what Apostle Paul meant when he said, “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ” (Philippians 1:27). In his poem entitled “Sermons We see”, Edgar Guest wrote, in part as follows: - “I’d rather see a sermon than hear one any day! - I’d rather one should walk with me than merely tell me the way. - The eye’s a better pupil and more willing than the ear,

ADOPTABLE Pet of the Week!

Meet... LAGER

Lager came to the shelter as a stray with his two siblings. Because he missed out on early socialization, he is timid and anxious when encountering new things like new people, noises, dogs, and doorways. The great news is that with patience and time, Lager is blooming! He is a genuinely friendly dog who just needs a moment to warm up to new faces. He is still learning the concept of toys but already loves playing with them independently. He can be a little hesitant around new pups, but deep down, he truly wants to make friends and play. Lager is looking for a peaceful, patient home where he can continue to build his confidence. He would absolutely love a calm, confident resident dog to reassure him, show him the ropes, and help him see how beautiful the world can be. The Details: 6 Months Old Somewhat Dog FriendlyCalmer, confident dog would be the best fit May Be Appropriate for Respectful Older Kids (8+) Workable with Cats

- … I might misunderstand you and the high advice you give, - But there’s no misunderstanding how you act and how you live” In Proverbs 10:9 we read, “People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed” Walking with God is the best path to be on. We will never lose our way. Jesus knows the way, because Jesus is the way. Jesus knows the truth because He is Truth (John 14:6). And the more we walk with Him, the more we will become like Him.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I will live this day for Your glory. In Your strong name. Amen.

Tree-Hugging Hippies Sometimes we Christians allow our politics to determine our theology instead of allowing our theology to determine our politics. I see this happening in the area of environmentalism, awareness and action aimed at protecting and preserving the environment. We assume this is a political issue. Only tree‐hugging, pot‐smoking liberal hippies care about the environment, right? Wrong! Caring for creation is not a political issue but a biblical practice. Genesis 2:15 sates, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” The first job description ever given is creation care. And it wasn’t issued by a political party but by the Creator‐God. Some might say that the phrase “Christian environmentalist” is oxymoronic. But, according to my reading of the Bible, there is no other kind of Christian than one who cares about creation because they love their Creator. Maybe the tree hugging hippies and wacked out environmentalists are more biblical than many of us in the church when it comes to care for God’s green earth. If creation care is biblical and not merely political, try this…

Here are 5 Creation Care Practices: ‐Be Informed: Website: Creationcare.org; Books: Serve God Save the Planet, Stewards of Eden, Care of Creation ‐Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Reduce what you throw away. Trash hurts the environment, plain and simple. Reuse what you can. Perhaps you can repurpose something that has run its course. An old chicken crate is now a piece of furniture in our living room. Recycle what you can, especially plastics which are not biodegradable and do the most harm. It’s amazing to me what is being recycled these days. Not only are paper, cardboard, and glass recyclable, so are batteries, bulbs, and electronics. ‐Don’t Litter: Empathic care for the earth is a command from God that ultimately blesses us and those who come behind us. I hated seeing cups and candy wrappers when I hiked beautiful trails in Maine’s Acadia National Park. The mess that other people left behind for me to deal with bugged me. We don’t want our descendants to feel like we left them a mess by not caring for creation. ‐Pick Up Trash: If you see trash around your home, work, or church, pick it up and dispose of it. Who cares if it’s not your trash! It’s impacting the environment. ‐Advocate for Environmental Laws: “When we fail to see the world as God’s creation, we will end up abusing it. Selfishness and greed take over, and we end up not caring about the environment or the problems we’re creating for future generations.” Do you know who said this? Billy Graham. See you Sunday at 10:40! Pastor Lenny Luchetti

OTSEGO DISTRICT PUBLIC LIBRARY ON AUGUST 4, 2026 BALLOT New Additional Operating Funding Ask for First Time in 30 Years.

The Otsego District Public Library has not asked for additional operating funds in 30 years, as the last operating funding ask was in 1996. In 1996, minimum wage was $3.35/hr and the library operated a 7,000 square foot facility. In 2027, minimum wage will be $15/hr and the library is now operating a 18,400 square foot facility. Overall rising expenses are outpacing current income and the library has begun to use its fund balance to cover routine operating costs, repairs, and upgrades. The library’s goal is to maintain a fund balance equal to 50% of one year’s operating expenses with a minimum target of 35%. However, the 2025 audit showed the fund balance has decreased to 19% of annual operating expenses due to rising costs and necessary repairs to the facility. 2027 marks the last levy and payment on the debt bonds for construction of the current facility. The library is advised annually by a financial management firm how much to levy to make the bond payments, typically 0.5 mills. This will drop off the tax role in 2027 after the final payment, Winter 2026. During the course of payment duration on the bonds, the library refinanced and saved taxpayers over 1.5 million from 2016-2026. Building and Grounds expenses since 2005 for the library have increased 400% as the library facility has aged. There are over $1.3 million in known building needs and upgrades over the next 5+ years, with over $500,000 being current urgent needs. The current facility is now 17 years old (built in 2009). Infrastructure needs include: HVAC replacements, roofing repairs, crumbling exterior masonry repairs, lighting, parking lot maintenance, accessibility improvements, and routine upkeep of the building and equipment. Otsego District Public Library operating funding is trailing behind other area libraries. ODPL currently operates on 0.9502 mills due to headlee rollback. Allegan operates on 1.751 mills with a 1.3 million dollar budget, Paw Paw operates on 1.6751 mills with a 1.2 million dollar budget, and Plainwell operates on 1.4345 mills with a $1,085,850 budget. ODPL operated on $709,487 (including millage and all other income sources) in 2025 with 3 full time staff and 16 part time staff. Library usage has remained high. In 2025, 62,177 people visited ODPL, equivalent to the library serving an average of 24 visitors per hour open. The Otsego District Public Library has seen a 70% increase in library visitors from 2021 to 2025. Study rooms were booked 503 times in the course of 2025. Visitors used the library’s internet and/or wifi 29,950 times in 2025 alone. Programs at ODPL are well attended: 163,027

TOTAL T OTA AL M MILLAGE ILLAGE LEVIED

The Otsego District Public Library (ODPL) is on the August 4, 2026 ballot with a new additional operating millage ask of 1.0 mill in perpetuity, which would generate an additional $587,000 in operating revenue the first year levied. Notably, the winter collection on the debt bonds payment will be the last levy for construction of the facility and then the debt millage will drop from the tax roll in 2027. The funds are intended for both regular operations, maintenance of the facility, and capital improvement. The funds collected will be used for maintaining and enhancing library services, including infrastructure repairs and general maintenance of building, technology, equipment, to cover and facilitate staffing minimum wage increases, restoration of the fund balance, facility repair and improvement, and the potential for expanded hours.
