Arbor Financial celebrated the grand opening of its new Otsego-Plainwell office with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 31, 2018 with Arbor Financial staff and Board of Directors, local businesses and community leaders. “We are so excited to serve our members in the new branch,” says Tammy Phelps, Vice President Operations. “It’s a bigger space with easier access off M-89, and allows us to provide members with a more personal experience.” Another enhancement is the addition of a drive thru. “Our members told us they wanted drive-thru service, which is something we weren’t able to do at the old loca-
tion,” explains Phelps. “The new branch features four drive thru lanes, a drive up ATM and night drop.” The new Otsego-Plainwell branch is located at 1386 M-89 and is open Monday thru Friday 9:00 – 5:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 – noon. Extended drive-thru hours until 6:00 PM on Fridays and 1:00 PM on Saturdays. William I. TICE
AGE 92 - PLAINWELL, MI William passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Wings Home in Allegan. He was born December 11, 1925 in Stone Fort, Illinois, the son of Elza and Sadie (Barnett) Tice. Bill proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Pennsylvania. In his free time he enjoyed his John Deere tractor, gardening, camping, fishing for Coho salmon in Lake Michigan, traveling and spending time at his cabin. Bill was a member of the Otsego VFW Post #3030, Good Sams Camping Club, Otsego Moose Lodge and had been active with the Kalamazoo Baptist Church on Ravine Road. On November 1, 1947 in Sturgis he married Erma Snook who survives. Also surviving are his children, David (Kathi) Tice of Allegan and Wendy (David) Conner of Plainwell; 4 grandchildren, Jeff (Ronda) Conner, Bethany (Rob) Collings, Brian Tice and Amy (Doug) Brink; 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Elza Coy Tice. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 7, 2018. Pastor Seth Green officiated. Burial followed at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell. Military Honors by VFW Post #3030. Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Wings Home of Allegan. Mark Allan McMillin (Papa, Mac, Coach Mac) age 70, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 4, 2018 on the golf course of a heart attack. Mark was born December 31, 1947 in West Plains, MO to Ruth and William McMillin. He graduated from Swartz Creek High School where he was an All-State baseball player, and talented musician. Mark served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Bronze Medal. Mark taught and coached for 36 years at Otsego High School. His greatest joys came from his wife Laura and four children and eleven grandchildren: Samantha and Danny Sturman (Josie and CJ Jackson, Brent and Abbie Sturman), Pollie and Mike Gilchrist (Skyler, Kate, and Ryann Gilchrist), Jason McMillin and Christina Kunick (Jonah Pfau and Clara McMillin), and Pennie and Doug Start (Evan McMillin, Drew, and Cooper Start). You could always find Mark at his grand-children’s sporting events and activities cheering them on the sidelines or helping announce in the press box. He loved fishing, golf, and horse-shoes down south in the winter-time. Mark had a never ending positive spirit and energy around everyone he encountered. A true role model of a kind hearted person; always loving, supportive and present. He is survived by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and many close friends that had a special place in his heart. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and William McMillin; sister, Billy Sue Atherton and brother, Curt McMillin. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Lynx Golf Course in Otsego. For a lasting memory, donations in Mark’s name can be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010. AGE 75 - ALAMO TOWNSHIP, MI Robert passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. He was born August 16, 1942 in Dowagiac, the son of Lester and Jean (Spivey) Barnes. Bob proudly served his country in the US Army. He had worked at Checker Motors for 29 years, working his way up to vice president of manufacturing and retired in 2005. Bob enjoyed basketball, tennis, bike riding, solving problems, traveling and spending several winters in Florida. On September 19, 1964 in South Bend, IN, he married Betty Cole who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Brian and Jeff Barnes; grandsons, William and Paul; brothers, David (Sandy) Barnes and Mark (Maria) Barnes along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may visit with Bob’s family starting at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Don Boss officiating. Burial will follow at Alamo Center Cemetery in Alamo Township. Contributions in memory of Bob may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or the Rose Arbor Hospice. Kim went into eternal rest on Memorial Day with family by his side in Ft. Myers, FL. Kim was born in Detroit, MI to Robert & Lois Hall. Kim grew up on Crooked Lake, Kalamazoo, MI, attending Mattawan Schools & Western Michigan University. On July 4, 1969 he was united in marriage to Nancy Kosty and they were blessed with 2 children. They enjoyed passing down lake living to Kari & Chad on Eagle Lake with grandparents & family nearby. Kim served in the Air National Guard for 6 years stationed at Battle Creek. His lifelong career was in the floor covering business as Mill Rep. Kim was instrumental in modeling a retail floor covering store with his daughter & son; today HQ Flooring is a family operated business in Otsego, MI of which he has been extremely proud. His passions were with his family spending countless hours on Eagle Lake and annual hunting trips up North with dads, brothers, son, nephews. Then on to boating in The Great Lakes & Florida, enjoying Gulf Harbor Yacht Club, Singapore Yacht Cub, South Haven Yacht Club, and the honorary Rio Negro Yacht Club. Kim was preceded in death by his parents Bob & Lois and is survived by his spouse of 49 years Nancy Kosty; daughter Kari Kubiak/Tim; son Chad Hall/Traci; grandchildren Riley, Bradi, Brynlee; brothers Jerry (Carol Ann) & Paul (Tori)Hall, Rich Kosty (Mary Lou); nieces Jodi, Jill, Kalee; nephews Josh, Jim, Lance, Aaron. Kim is very proud of his children and the families they have nurtured as well as their strong work ethics. Kim was a very strong-willed, brave man who loved to make people laugh; always a smile despite the lousy hand he was dealt healthwise. Retirement years brought the makings of many new friends in Burnt Store Marina & Ft. Myers, Florida. No immediate Services are planned at this time but there will be a Celebration of Life upon return home to MI.
Russell James Miner, 81, of Allegan, MI passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Allegan County Medical Care Community. Born September 25, 1936 in Hopkins, MI, he was the son of the late Darl James Miner and Goldie F. (Commans) Miner and was the husband of Patricia Jean (McGuire) Miner. Mr. Miner was a veteran of the United States Army where he was a boxer and played on the Army traveling baseball team. After his time in the service, he went to work for JC Penney and Company, Rockwell International, Prince and Company and James River Paper before retiring. Mr. Miner loved spending time with the Allegan Snowmobile Club. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and following professional boxing and was a Civil War enthusiast. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. In addition to his wife of over fifty-eight years, Patricia, Mr. Miner is survived by his children, Darl (Dahn) Miner and Cherri Miner; siblings, Delbert (Bonnie) Miner and Mary (Harvey) Norris; eight grandchildren, Jayme (Tina) Johnson, Sarah Johnson (TJ Ptak), Kimberly Miner, Kyle (Kassandra) Miner, Tyler (Ashley) Miner, Eric Miner, Vincent Gulliver and Rachel Gulliver; and fifteen greatgrandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven Russell Miner; and brothers, Kenneth Miner, Gilbert Miner and Jerry Miner. Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
