Danny J. BURCHETT
Dale passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 in Ann Arbor. Dale was born August 28, 1950, the son of Kenneth R. and Rita (Jedele) Bemis. Dale was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and later served in Korea. He enjoyed his job as a plumber, also woodworking and being with his grandchildren. Surviving are 3 sons, Dale Bemis of Gobles, Rich Bemis and Mark (Kimberly) Bemis, both of Bloomingdale; 4 grandchildren, Adam, Joshua, Maddy and William; 1 brother, Butch Bemis of Otsego. Cremation has taken place. Burial with military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 1:00 P.M.
Danny J. ‘Dan’ B u r c h e t t passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 25, 2013 in Kalamazoo. Dan was born March 17, 1945 in Otsego to Loren and Berniece (Boerman) Burchett and was a lifelong resident of the area. From 1963 to 1966 he served his country in the U.S. Army and was a sergeant serving in Santo Domingo. For thirty years he was employed at Menasha Corp. in Otsego, retiring as a millwright. An Eagle Scout, he enjoyed spending time in the out-ofdoors with his children. On June 8, 1968 in Otsego he was married to JoAnn Moody, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Christina Lewis of Saugatuck, Mike (fiancée Janelle Quigley) Burchett of Otsego and Justin (Sarah) Burchett of Gaylord; five grandchildren, Cameron, Olin, David, Lexy and Ashley; his mother, Berniece Burchett of Otsego; his mother-in-law, Patricia Moody of Otsego; siblings, Stanley (Charlotte) Burchett of Kalamazoo, Sandra Morey of Plainwell and Barbara (Bob) Fuller of Otsego; several nieces and nephews. Friends may meet with Dan’s family from 4 to 6:30 P.M. Friday, June 28th at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where a Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 P.M. with Deacon Dean Hermann officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Otsego Elks Club. Contributions in memory of Dan may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or Michigan Nature Association. Sotero R. GONZALES AGE 81 – PLAINWELL
Sotero passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 at his home. Mr. Gonzales was born December 15, 1931 in La Feria, TX to Andres and Eloisa (Longoria) Ramirez. Sotero had worked for over 30 years at Plainwell Paper Company and in his leisure time enjoyed camping, watching westerns, fishing, gardening, reading the Bible and attending church. On August 26, 1961 at their home in Plainwell he married Maria Delgadillo who survives. Also surviving are his children, Juanita (John) Richards, Luis Gonzales and Gilberto (Shantel Palumbo) Gonzales; 10 grandchildren, Taija, Kalob, Chelsea, Hana, Drew, Carly, Dakota, Sammy, Kelsie and Maggie; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He was preceded in death by his sons, Victor and Miguel and 5 siblings. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 25th at the Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego with Pastor Dave Alderman officiating. For many years Harry was employed with Sutherland Paper/Georgia Pacific. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching Tiger baseball. He was preceded in death by his wives, Nina Munn in 1972 and Clarine Rose in 1982. Surviving are his children, Gerald (Joan) Rose of Utah, William (Barbara) Rose of Otsego; step sons, Homer (Peggy) Rose of Mattawan and John (Donna) Rose of FL; 29 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; his siblings, Ellen (Al) Hunter, Floyd (Jo) Rose and Myron (Winnie) Rose, his 3rd wife, Aline (Laugley) Rose of N.H. and many nieces and nephews and good friends Tom & Janet Shoemaker. Cass’s life was tragically taken early Tuesday morning, June 18. Cass enjoyed nature and the simple things in life: practicing yoga, playing Frisbee golf, tending to her garden, listening to her favorite artists (Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead and Bob Marley) on her vinyl records. Cass’s passion for the piano and dance impressed all that had the opportunity to witness. Cass made time to crochet and/or create other homemade gifts for her family and friends. Cass’s latest creation was a set of hula hoops she made out of flex tubing and hockey tape for herself to explore a new type of meditation. Cass’s love for her dog Sunshine has no limit. Sunshine is in the care of her loving Grandparents Ann and Dan Pell who have always had a special place in Cass’s heart. Cass is also survived by her sisters Hope and Maya Pell; grandparents Bill and Alice Pickett; parents Natalie Pickett and Jim (Amy) Pell; stepsiblings Brinklee (Adrian) Davis and Larry Fitch; aunts and uncles Jack and Sue Pell; Kathy and Rick Babbitt; Beth and Chuck Johnson; cousins Grant and Brooke Pell; MacKenzie and Drake Babbitt; Hailey, Gavin and Whitney Johnson, all of Plainwell; and many friends. Ann Christine Koelsch passed away Monday, June 17, 2013. Ann was born on December 18, 1950 in Detroit to Donald B. Thomson and Laura (Foote, Thomson) Dixon. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Donald M. (Gloria) Thomson; niece, Lisa (Brian) Willcock; great nephews, Maclean and Cameron; Ann and John Dixon, and many cousins and friends, especially Phil Salingue. Ann was a huge part of the Gun Lake community, She worked for National City Bank and PNC of Martin, MI. She had a Mary Kay business. She was an early advocate for the Gun Lake Protective Association and the Gun Lake Business Organization. Much of her volunteer time was given in service with the GFWC - Gun Lake Women's Club. She was an early member joining in 1985. Ann served as President of the club from 1990-1992. She was voted Woman of Achievement of the Gun Lake Club in 2007 and Ms. Federation in 1987. She served the club and her community with participation in community dinners, ad sales for the Scholarship Committee and the Scholarship Dinner. She often hosted the evening GFWC Gun Lake meetings for working women. Ann was known for her sense of humor, her endless caring for others, her love of theatre, her participation in Anusara Yoga, her love of Zumba and for long, long walks with friends including a walk all the way around Gun Lake. Donations can be made to Barry County Hospice or to the GFWC - Gun Lake Scholarship Fund where they will be distributed in her name. A memorial service will be held at the Gun Lake Community Church at 11am on August 3, 2013. Ann will be interred at the Milford Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. John M. ‘Jack’ Blanchard passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 at his home. Mr. Blanchard was born December 1, 1934 in Kalamazoo to John E. and Evelyn (Baxter) Blanchard. Jack was a 1953 graduate of Marshall High School. From 1955 to 1959 he served his country in the U.S. Marines. After his return home from the Marines he was employed with Eaton Corp. for 7 years before owning and operating his own drywall installation business. Surviving are a sister, Nancy (Blanchard) Trotter of Kalamazoo; four half-siblings, Dave (Barb) Blanchard of Martin, Robert (Betty) Blanchard of Raleigh, NC, Janice Blanchard of Wayland and Kay (Dave Wanner) of Becida, MN; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Helen Roberta Blanchard. Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service with Military Honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, will take place at a later date. Re-Retired! "For everything there is a season, and a time…" ~Ecclesiates 3:1 I am retiring…again! When I retired the first time (two years ago) people would ask, "Are you looking forward to retirement?" My response was "I am looking forward to whatever God has for me." I could have never imagined what God had for us. Fourteen months into retirement I accepted a part-time appointment to Gobles and Kendall United Methodist Churches following the tragic death of their pastor Ed Mohr. As much as I enjoyed pastoring for 41 years, I never saw myself pastoring a church again. But this appointment has been different. • It has been my shortest appointment (9 1/2 months) • It was done prayerfully and voluntarily, not out of obligation. • It has been a ministry of healing and unity in Christ. • While reluctant at first, I am glad I accepted this appointment. • Our circle of friendship has been expanded. • I feel the churches are ready for the transition in pastoral leadership. • Plus - I have had a lot of fun! A huge source of joy has been the ever loving support of my wife, Grandma Jo. With that said, we look forward to coming home to Otsego United Methodist Church, "A church where Jesus' love is lived." This camp is appropriate for middle school and high school age (grades 6-12) boys and girls of all sport interests and skill levels.
The focus of this 2-day camp is to provide the athlete with:
Education on injury prevention. Education on functional movement patterns and how to perform a self-screen to identify muscle imbalances, weakness and flexibility/mobility problems. An introduction to functional strength training using the TRX, kettlebells, tires, ropes and other tools that incorporate multi-joint/full body movement patterns. Effective circuit training program development. Partner based agility drills and competitions.
