It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Rick Walker of Richland, MI. Rick passed peacefully on June 9th, 2025. Rick was born March 12th, 1963, son to Ray and Bonnie Walker. In his younger years, Rick had many fond memories of playing football for Delton High School, skiing the Rocky Mountains, and growing up on Pine Lake with his two sisters, Renee and Rhonda. Rick met his wife, Patricia, at the age of 15, and the couple was blessed to share over 40 years together. Together, they built a life ﬁlled with cherished memories, laughter, and unwavering support. Rick and Pat enjoyed traveling, golﬁng, and spending time with their two children. Later in life, Rick embraced his role as Grandpa to his four grandchildren. Rick combined his passion for science with his desire to give back to his community by bringing science to life as "Mr. Wiz," a fun, engaging persona he created while volunteering at his children's elementary school. Through exciting experiments and lively demonstrations, he sparked curiosity and inspired a love for discovery among countless young students. Rick’s sense of humor was his signature trait. Whether telling a joke or sharing a funny story, his quick wit and infectious laughter brought joy to everyone who knew him. Rick was an avid Detroit Lions fan and never missed a game. It didn’t matter if he was watching from home or at Ford Field; Rick loved watching his favorite team play. Rick is survived and will be deeply missed by his son, Rick (Jessica) Walker, daughter, Heather (Dan) Grimm, his grandchildren, Cora & Harrison Walker and Benjamin & Mason Grimm, his sister, Rhonda (Alex) Kienitz, brothers and sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and many other close family friends. Rick’s jokes, love, and spirit will live on in our hearts forever. A memorial service in honor of Rick’s life will be held on June 16th, 2025, at Winkel Funeral Home in Otsego, MI. Friends and family are invited to share stories, laughter, and love in his honor. Visitation starts at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00. Contributions in memory of Rick may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice.

Bill (The Barber) Standish passed away peacefully June 6, 2025, at Stanford Lodge Care Center in Plainwell. He was born April 25, 1939, one of 5 children to Eliza and RD Standish of Wayland, Michigan, where he grew up. After attending barber school, he became established and known for owning the Otsego Barber Shop where he worked for over 40 years, giving many local kids their first haircuts and serving his many customers throughout their lives. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed motorcycle riding, skeet shooting, mushroom hunting and many outdoor hobbies. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda (Brooks) Standish in 2020 after 59 years of marriage and many adventures together. Surviving are his son, Rick (Anna) Standish of Louisville, KY and daughter, Kristina (Joel) Spitzner of Otsego, MI; two grandchildren, Jake (Erika) Spitzner and Adam (Ashley) Spitzner all of Otsego; four great-grandchildren; brother Bob (Sue) Standish of Wayland, MI and several nieces and nephews. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with Bill’s family from 5-7 PM, Thursday, June 26, 2025 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, with a private burial to be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the very caring staff at Stanford Lodge, Ely Manor and Centrica Care Hospice for his care during his last months. Carl E. Dortch went to meet Jesus, Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 27, 1958, in Allegan, the son of Dorene and Eudora (Conrad) Dortch. A proud member of the Otsego High School class of 1978, Carl embarked on a career as an auto mechanic initially working at Midwest Motors for a short time. He opened C.D.'s Auto Repair in Plainwell in 1997, eventually moving the business home to Otsego, where he worked until his passing. His passion for cars was not just a job; it was a reflection of his dedication and skill, and he took great pride in the services he provided. Carl was known for his love of working on vehicles and exploring the open road. He cherished road trips and was unafraid to take the less-traveled paths, finding joy in the adventures along the way. His genuine spirit and willingness to help others were hallmarks of his character. Above all, Carl lived for his family and found immense happiness in making his wife, Stacia, smile. Carl's marriage to Stacia on September 20, 1996, in Otsego at Brookside Park, marked the beginning of a partnership grounded in love and mutual support. Together, they built a life rich in family values and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Stacia; his children, Kimberly Dortch and Seth (Amanda) Pettit; and his siblings, James (Shari) Dortch, Elva Chambless, Harriet Drobny, Sondra (Jeff) Richards, and Jeannie Roebuck. Additionally, he leaves behind father-in-law, Steven Pettit and brother-in-law, Steven (Sarah) Pettit and many cherished nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings. Dr. Clifford J. Haff, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Memorial Day May 26, 2025, at the age of 90. A man of sharp wit, warm humor, and boundless energy, Cliff lived a full life, marked by deep devotion to family, a love of laughter. Cliff grew up in Jenison and Grandville MI. He attended Grandville High School where he met Nora Jean Gilbert. Cliff excelled at sports (Basketball & Track & Field). For many years he held a basketball school record for points scored, before the 3-point shot rule was part of the game. After serving in the US Navy, Cliff went on to earn his degree as Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine, graduating from Chicago’s National Chiropractic College in 1962. He practiced Chiropractic Medicine for 35 years until his retirement in 1997. He opened his own practice in Plainwell, Michigan in 1964. Cliff was very active in the Plainwell community serving as a Plainwell City Commissioner, and was on the Plainwell’s 100 Centennial Committee with his wife Nora typing the Centennial Book. Doc Haff could be found Friday nights on the sidelines of Plainwell High School Trojan Football games to assist with any injuries. An active and vibrant man, he pitched men’s fast pitch softball & bowled in leagues. Over the years Cliff & Nora enjoyed camping, boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling, & traveling the world. Well into his later years, Cliff enjoyed riding his bicycle & golﬁng several times a week, especially while living on Pine Lake and during his winters in Melbourne Beach, Florida. He watched his beloved Tigers, Lions, & auto races to the end. Cliff was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Nora Jean (Gilbert) Haff, who passed away on October 13, 2024. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on family, laughter, adventure and love. Cliff is survived by his two daughters: Kathryn Jean Klarecki and her husband Patrick Klarecki of Big Rapids, Michigan, and Elizabeth Ann Farho and her husband Thomas Farho of Plainwell, Michigan. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Carolyn Klarecki Thomason (husband Sean), Elizabeth Klarecki, Andrew Klarecki (wife Karen), Joseph Farho, and Kathryn Farho. He leaves behind not just cherished memories, but a legacy of kindness, humor, and a life lived fully and without regret. Cliff will be missed deeply by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in every smile shared and every joke told in his honor. Cremation has taken place. Per their wishes, no service or viewing will take place. A Celebration for Clifford & Nora Haff will be held at Doster Golf Course, Plainwell MI on Wednesday, July 2, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. The family would like to thank Centrica Hospice & Stanford Lodge for Cliff’s comfort & care. In lieu of ﬂowers, contributions can be made to Centrica or Stanford Lodge.

Ronald Tutewiler passed away, June 3, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida. He is now in Heaven breathing freely and taking long walks on the beach with his many relatives and 4 golden retrievers that have preceded him. Ron was born May 6, 1937, in Battle Creek, MI, the son of George “Jack” and Thela Tutewiler. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1955 where he played the trombone in the band and jazz band. As a young man Ron enjoyed driving stock cars at Galesburg Speedway. Ron worked at Michigan Bell Telephone for 34 ½ years, taking an early retirement in 1990. After a couple years of finishing projects at the house on Crooked Lake, he worked part-time at Barry County Telephone for a few years. Ron married Gail Foster in 1980 at Richland Covenant Church in Richland, MI. They lived at Crooked Lake in Delton for more than 17 years. He loved to fish for bluegill off his dock, cruise the lake in his pontoon and entertain his many friends and family. He fell in love with golden retrievers when a coworker gave him a 7-year-old golden named Paulo. Paulo was the first of 5 golden retrievers they would have. In 1994, Ron and Gail started spending winters at their condo on Anna Maria Island. He enjoyed riding his bike all over the island, to Longboat Key and St. Armands Circle. They went to amusement parks, were members of Mote Marine and enjoyed entertaining many family and friends on their Florida vacations. Ron and Gail later sold the Crooked Lake home and moved to a more permanent home in North Beach Village on Anna Maria Island. Ron loved to walk the beach for hours and walk his two golden retrievers around the island. They spent summers at Sandy Pines in Dorr, MI for 5 years, then rented cottages on lakes closer to family and in 2010 bought a condo in Richland, MI for the summers. In Florida, after 30 plus years on Anna Maria Island, they moved to a home in NW Bradenton. Ron and Gail were members of Roser Memorial Community Church on Anna Maria Island. They were season ticket holders at the Island Players for over 30 years. Even after 35 years in Florida, Ron was an avid Michigan sports fan, especially rooting for the Detroit Red Wings, but followed them all. He is survived by his wife, Gail; four children from his previous marriage to Shirley Barnes, Ronda Ernsberger of Delton, MI, Kathy Williams of Battle Creek, MI, Terri (Carl) Linsley of Battle Creek, MI and Greg (Tammy) Tutewiler of Ceresco, MI; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Joan Gryczka. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 13, 2025, with Pastor Ray Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego. A reception will follow at the Otsego VFW Post 3030, 124 Farmer St, Otsego. A memorial service will be held at Roser Memorial Community Church in Florida in the fall. Contributions in memory of Ron may be directed to Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Maria, FL or to the Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida.

Battling Temptation

We all know what it’s like to be tempted. It’s not fun, that’s for sure. Maybe when praying the Lord’s Prayer you think to yourself, “lead us not into temptation, because I already know the way.” I heard someone else say, “I tried to avoid temptation, but it found me on Instagram!” Temptation is no laughing matter because it tries to deliver our best intentions a knock-out punch. It might help you to know that Jesus battled and beat temptation. Here is what the writer of the Biblical book of Hebrews asserts about Jesus: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:15-16). The reason I’m a Christian is because Jesus gets me. He empathizes with my weaknesses. He really does know what it’s like to be me, to even be tempted like me. If I am going to worship anyone, it’s not going to be a god who stays far removed from the stuff I face, callously indifferent to what I’m enduring. Nope! I’m going to worship the God who jumped into flesh, blood, and bone to become one with me because He loves me. This is why I worship Jesus. Back to temptation… Jesus was tempted like us but, unlike us, He is without sin. The most frequent and fierce temptation Jesus faced was to take the easy road and not go to the cross to die in love for the world. In the garden of Gethsemane, just before His arrest and crucifixion, Jesus was battling temptation in prayer to the point of sweating and crying tears of blood. Jesus resisted temptation in love for us. I wonder, can we do the same in love for Him? The next time we are tempted to think, say, or do anything that evidences a lack of love for God or people, let’s pause and pray like Jesus did when he was tempted. Temptation may be too big for us but it’s not too big for Jesus. Tap Jesus into the ring through prayer so He can face the bully of our temptation. And watch Him win the battle! The winner by a knock-out and the undisputed, undefeated heavy weight champion of the world is Jesus! You are loved, ~ Pastor Lenny Luchetti

Those of us who have had (or have) Christian fathers are very blessed. The power of example can never be taken for granted. This includes biological fathers, adoptive fathers, stepfathers and any male who has been a positive role model for sons and daughters. My father was a pastor. Among other things, my own father showed love for God, family and friends. He demonstrated unconditional love, He helped me to establish credit, open my first bank account, buy my first car (with my own money) and establish a seasonal business. As for being a pastor, he was clearly a role model for me. There are qualities I have learned from my Heavenly Father. God has given me a love for God, for God’s Word and for God’s people. My family has been my biggest and most loyal support system. They love me, pray for me and encourage me. It is one thing to be blessed by a Christian father (and mother). It is another blessing to be a father. There is no greater joy in Christian marriage than bringing children into the world. It is then that we have the privilege of showing them the ways of Christ and watching them grow and mature into adulthood. Then, there is the joy of being a grandparent and great-grandparent. Need I say more? As for our family, at this stage in our lives it is fun watching our grandson be a father for the first time. Tyler, Brittany and Alden are as close as any family can be! I know baby Alden has wonderful Christian role models and God will direct him on the right path throughout his life journey.
